I just won an Ebay auction on something that I didn’t really want. An item (used scuba regulator) came up last week, 100 bucks “Buy it now” and a starting bid of 30 bucks. I was interested, but not 100 bucks interested, so I threw a bid of 30 bucks in, and that has the effect of killing the “Buy it Now” price. I figured that there would be other bids, I could get it if I wanted it at the end if the price was OK.

Looking closer at it, the item is in rougher shape than I originally noticed. Apparently everybody else noticed it also, because my 30 buck bid held all the way to the end.

I’ll know more when it gets here, maybe I can salvage it, maybe it will end up a paperweight. It’s a good brand, I can get the parts easy, maybe it will clean up.

Such is life in the RBS world.

Wow. I sell nuts that do the same job (except with a wrench) for 50 cents. Considering that I’d have to change the guy’s axles, he’s keeping his Q/R skewers.

Yes, but are the forged SS, with the V-O logo, carefully polished on the soft downy thighs of the free range maidens that they keep on staff for just that purpose?

VO stuff is beautiful, but they price it for the boutique market. I’d love to have their small touring triple in high polish on my polished AL Gold Rush, but not going to happen.

Such is life. I hope it will clean up better than you fear.

My first world problem for today is that my all-in-one printer died. It prints half an inch of text, doesn’t print half an inch of text. Rinse. Repeat.
I think it needs a new printer head thingie which costs almost as much as a new printer, and is of course, not guaranteed to fix the problem.

Yep… I feel the pain on that one. It’s amazing how one component can be 80% of the cost of a totally new unit. (or worse). It’s almost like they want to rope you in to getting a new one.

Not really. There are a lot of compact desktop laser and all in one units out there. I’m partial to Brother, my first laser printer lasted 5 years (until a lighting strike). My dad has the exact same model and it’s going strong after 10 years.

My biggest problem with home printing pictures is that unless you’re willing to cough up the big bucks for a true 6 color, photo grade printer with glossy stock, it looks like you printed it at home.

I send mine to Walgreens or Walmart, pick them up that afternoon for all my snapshots or stuff I want to just post up at the store.

Actually, my Canon did a really good job with photos. The operative word at this point of course, is “did”, and the Great Photo Project (family photo albums for each of the kids) is done, so that is a little less important now. Also, I suspect my son-in-law has a really, really good photo printer, so I can always send photos to him to print. :)

Think of them as salmon swimming up stream, and you’re the bear. You’re just weeding out the slow ones.

UPDATED SUN STORY: After peaceful start, violence mars protest (7:45 PM EST)

A day of peaceful rallies into the death of Freddie Gray turned violent as dark fell over Baltimore with protesters smashing the windows on police cars, blocking traffic near the Inner Harbor and shouting, “Killers!” at officers dressed in riot gear.
More than 100 officers - wearing helmets, batons, gloves and vets - blocked protesters at Howard and Pratt streets, and began to make arrests. State police in full tactical gear have been deployed to the city, and more are being sent to respond to the crowd that’s beginning to become unruly.

Protesters shouted: “Killers!” and “You can’t get away with this” and “Hands up don’t shoot.” They threw items at cops and smashed a window at Dempsey’s Brew Pub and Restaurant at Camden Yards.
