Probably not before I challenge them over the fact they think they’re being smart by using those words, and not the racial slurs they want to.

On another note: I don’t know how many more wake-up calls white America needs to see that there are huge problems with cops treating minority communities. It’s not just happening in podunk towns like Fegurson; it’s huge cities like NYC and Baltimore.

This is some bad shit that needs to be addressed ASAP.

I’m a bit surprised by David Simon’s reaction to what’s going on in Baltimore. I would have expected a bit more empathy for what the citizens of the city are going through.

I lived in Baltimore for a couple of years, decades ago. It was a rough place (I think it had the highest per capita murder rate in America at the time), but I liked it a fair amount. Terrible to see what’s going on now, especially the idiocy from the police.

Yes America is the greatest country in the world, but white America needs to wake up and at least have some empathy if not understanding about how black America feels. We aren’t just impatient, we’re desperate. We thought America would understand after Rodney King. We thought it would happen after Tony Sullivan, James Byrd, Eric Garner. It didn’t happen then, why expect it would happen now. I don’t condone violence or destruction of property, but I’m not sorry about it right now. We have twice elected a black man as President of the United States, and black men and women have still been killed, sometimes on video, and no responsibility or accountability is provided. How are we supposed to feel? We’ve tried rocking the boat, but those at the rudder aren’t afraid of drowning. We’ve got the water at the bottom of the boat, struggling to keep our noses out of the water, but those at the rudder haven’t been paying attention for 400 years. Apparently, the news has gotten to him. He thinks the police at this point will use any excuse to escalate to violence.

This is someone who I have known to be flamboyantly racist for years.

That will cause a rift in the family. You see, one of his cousins in law is a cop.

The massive police escalation, the cutting off of public transportation and the other actions that have dramatically increased tensions in the city contributed to the violence. Why does the US allow savage animals to roam free and terrorize law abiding citizens? Why are law abiding citizens prosecuted for resisting savage victimization? What happened to this great country?

You grow up as a suburban learning to respect the police. They’re someone to look up to. You watch em nab the bad guys on Law and Order or CSI. You cheer as he reads the Miranda Warning to a perp and tells him “You’re going away for a long time scumbag.” You think nothing of how police forces in the deep South used waterhoses on civil rights protesters. You think nothing of the fact that it was the police that were part of the murder plot that killed Schwerner, Goodman, and Chaney. You acknowledge the Rodney King video was awful but you tell yourself that “if only he had did what the cops told him, he wouldn’t have had this happened to him” And then you wonder why African American communities are skeptical to go to the police when crimes occur in African-American neighborhoods. And finally you wonder why NWA said “Fuck the police.”

I’ve lost count of the number of riots I’ve seen after championship wins and loses where glass was broken, shit set on fire, and people had the shit beaten out of them. And every time it happens, we sigh and turn the page, because we convince ourselves that such games are so emotional that people are gonna act out.

Exactly. Which is one of the reasons I call the criminal authoritarians masquerading as police in places like Ferguson, Tulsa, Baltimore, New York and too many other places Thugs. It’s a way to recapture the word from it’s being taken over by the white supremacists.

It’s useful to remember where Thug-gee comes from - a very specific and very underground worship of a goddess by the murder of innocent travellers. It seems far more appropriate to call murderous police by that name than to allow it’s racist manipulation to stand.

I’m not quite sure why…but your comment reminded me of a classic old movie: A Clockwork Orange

It sure did nail some of the issues we are seeing, like the punk-ass thug cops.
