Pretty odd to see right wing loon Nick Searcy in this savagely funny Key & Peele video, although since he’s playing a racist cop it isn’t too far from his real personality. (Possibly NSFW due to F-bombs.)

Some folks here were talking about Elton John’s 17-11-70 last night, so I downloaded it to my phone on Spotify at the time to listen to today at work.

I just finished it. I can hear so much joy in that music. You can tell the band was having a really good time.

Can’t say enough good things about Spotify from the listeners point of view. They’re not paying the artists enough, so you might want to boycott based on that alone, but being able to play almost every album I like, and Pandora-style radio stations for a low monthly fee has me listening to a lot more music than I used to.

45 FemNaziBitch  May 6, 2015 11:06:01am

I think this was previous discussed.

Potential 2016 presidential candidate Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) served as the keynote speaker for the AIPAC New England Leadership Dinner in Boston’s Convention Center over the weekend and according to investigative journalist Uri Blau had this to say about Middle East politics: “Al Qaeda, Al Nusra, Al Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula… Everything that starts with ‘Al’ in the Middle East is bad news.”

As Blau points out in his piece and Graham probably could have figured out on his own, “Al” is the Arabic word for “the” and typically precedes proper nouns. For instance, the media company Al Jazeera means “The Peninsula,” referring to the Arab Peninsula region.

Does Graham mean to say that all Arab groups and organizations are “bad news” or did he just not know what he was suggesting? We reached out to the senator’s spokesman and have not yet heard anything back.

IMO, Searcy did a pretty good job portraying Deke Slayton in From the Earth to the Moon (he was one of the few actors that was in most, if not all, of the twelve episodes, IIRC).

Heh to be fair though Charles, he has said trash to you. The rest of us don’t have the benefit of some actor saying trash to them on Twitter like you did with Searcy. I usually can too. Like I still enjoy Duvall and Caan in the Godfather even though they’re both conservative and Duvall really rubbed me the wrong way when he pointed to the political party of the Southern sheriffs while ignoring that those southern sheriffs were hardly liberal and indeed his Republican party has gotten them and their ideological heirs to vote for them.

“You know,” she went on, her voice dropping, as if weighed down by emotion, “I have lived the American dream.” That was her segue into a condensed version of her professional biography: a liberal-arts degree from Stanford University that didn’t qualify her for anything in particular; an abandoned stab at law school; secretarial work; and then, thanks to a late-blooming focus and a lot of ferocious effort, a dizzying climb up the corporate ladder, culminating in more than five years as the chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard

So awesomesauce.

The Facebook post that warned of the vehicles is now going viral and it was posted by a Vietnam veteran, who was recently driving through Dallas, Texas when he saw the UN vehicles. The trucks were driving down I-30 and appeared to be headed towards Garland, Texas, where a terrorist attack was launched over the weekend.

This comes just days after Infowars’ own Alex Jones warned of a possible UN takeover of America. Judging from these pictures, it looks like this could be happening even sooner than expected.

The FB page is Bobby Wayne Guinn…he loves Allen West, prepper nonsense, etc. I think he’s the same one who took the scary Muslim at the fast food place a while back.

A man snorkeling in the Colorado River near the Arizona and California border was terrified — and later embarrassed — when he came across two fake skeletons sitting in lawn chairs about 40 feet underwater.

The man reported the skeletons to the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, launching a hunt for what authorities believed could be real bodies.

It turned out the skeletons were fake and had been strategically placed to appear as if they were sitting together, their lawn chairs bound to large rocks. A diver from the Buckskin Fire Department captured the scene on a video camera attached to his head. The sheriff’s office called the scene a tea party.

This woman’s success has been a mystery for the ages, that’s for sure.

I did not know that about Fiorina. It certainly makes her long track record of failure as a tech company CEO easier to understand, although it still remains a mystery why HP would put in a proven failure (Lucent) as its CEO.

OT, but funny. Hunter at DailyKos hits another one out of the park:

The supposed Jade Helm 15 conspiracy may be the single stupidest thing to come out of Texas in 20 years, and for a state that has reliably given us such treasures as Louie Gohmert, Steve Stockman, Ted Cruz, Rick Perry, and George W. Bush himself that is saying something.

It may not even be possible to adequately convey how stupid this story is. There may not be words in the English language—there may in fact be no words in any language, simply because no civilization has yet existed that ever needed to convey a stupidity as deep or as empty-headed as would apply here. It is a stupidity so stupid that we may be able to use it as future measure of the viability of nation-states; if a majority of any definable population is stupid enough to believe this thing, it is evidence that that population has lost the intellectual ability to maintain a government.

And this is the kind of malignant stupidity that some GOP apologists think should be pandered to as opposed to confronted as the garbage that it is.

110 lawhawk  May 6, 2015 11:50:31am

re: #89 Lord Of The Pies

Fiorina worked up the corporate ladder at AT&T, and then at Lucent, and was able to jump over to HP while her actual success at Lucent turned out to be little more than a shell game.

The telcoms borrowed from Lucent so that they could turn around and buy more telcom equipment and fiber. They overbought and overbuilt fiber networks, and in the end, revenues collapsed.

For instance, Fiorina’s mad math skilz had her complete a deal with an obscure company called PathNet. PathNet had all of $1.2 million in sales, but Lucent booked a massive $440 million sale, which could be valued as high as $2 billion. Lucent funded 100% of the purchases, even though PathNet had less than $100 million in equity and hundreds of millions more in loans.

Thus began a debt spiral where Lucent was lending to purchasers so that they could goose sales. It’s very much the same story as Chainsaw Al Dunlap over at Sunbeam, which began booking massive sales figures, only for people to realize that they were selling stuff off-season to retailers who were warehousing it for later sale and using all manner of accounting tricks to try and book the sales as instant profits, rather than counting it as a sale when the item was actually sold months later.

But she’d like everyone to ignore that little bit too.

From AZCentral:

Oh, THAT military exercise … Gov. Doug Ducey was asked to comment last week on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s plan to have that state’s National Guard monitor a U.S. military operation called Jade Helm 15. Abbott’s vigilance is prompted by concerns from conspiracy theorists who fear the military operations could lead to martial law.

Since Jade Helm 15 is also happening in Arizona, Ducey was asked if he has concerns.

Ducey didn’t miss a beat: “I believe what you’re referring to, we have been briefed on,” he said. “We’re following what’s going on in Texas with great interest, and we’re going to cooperate with the federal government and federal authorities and be supportive in any way we can to protect the citizens of Arizona.”

Later, Ducey’s office called to clarify the governor had confused the question with another issue. What issue was unclear, and his office never got back with an answer on how he feels about Jade Helm 15. But apparently he’s not calling out the Arizona Guard.

Had a bizarre debate at Raw Story on the shrieking harpy.

Many folks there want use “hate crime” laws to shut her up with criminal consequences.

One woman kept using Father Coughlin as an example (where the feds forcibly shut down his radio program and revoked the postage classification of his newslatter and then threatened him with sedition prosecution in WW II)…despite my constant attempts to get her to show me how in the hell anybody can do that constitutionally…and also explain how you could use laws as a weapon against her without having come around to bite you in the ass when another administration comes in that is hostile towards you…

A Man For All Seasons

Roper: So now you’d give the Devil benefit of law!
More: Yes. What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?
Roper: I’d cut down every law in England to do that!
More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned ‘round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country’s planted thick with laws from coast to coast- man’s laws, not God’s- and if you cut them down—and you’re just the man to do it—do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I’d give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety’s sake.

Many of the people at Raw Story literally could not understand the dual edged nature of the law or what I was trying to illustrate in that quote.

Unbelievable.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said during an interview on Wednesday’s “Morning Joe” that West Virginia, unlike Texas, would welcome military training exercises that have led to widespread conspiracy theories in several western states.

“Let me just say this. I want to make news right now,” Manchin said. “I don’t know what’s going on in Texas. I don’t know the paranoia that goes on in Texas, but the people in West Virginia welcome, welcome the special forces exercises. Please come to West Virginia. We’ll welcome you with open arms. We’re not afraid of you. We embrace you, we want you to be part of us.”

Dutch lawmaker plans Mohammed expo after US shootings

The Hague (AFP) - Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders said on Wednesday he wanted to stage a parliamentary exhibition of the cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed that sparked a deadly shooting in Texas that left two dead.

“I am going to request Parliament to exhibit the same cartoons as those that were displayed in Garland,” Wilders told AFP on Wednesday, referring to the Dallas suburb where the shooting took place on Sunday.

It wasn’t until the 14th Amendment that the courts even generally tried to apply the Bill of Rights to the States and local municipalities. The last blasphemy conviction in the US was in 1928. It wasn’t until 1952 that the Supreme Court struck down blasphemy laws for good.

Origins: Every January, as the federal holiday commemorating the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. approaches, this years-old item that refers to the famous civil rights leader as “a phony, a cheater, a traitor, and a sexual degenerate” is circulated anew. Unfortunately, most of the information it presents is false and thereby misleadingly denigrates the memory of a man whom the U.S. has chosen to honor.

Glad I don’t get crap emails like this anymore.

I wouldn’t see that alone as a disqualifying statement. King was a great man, but in his personal relationships he had his issues. Unless the blah blah blah part gets a lot worse. For a lot of people cheating on your spouse shows a pretty serious character flaw.

My grandma once knocked some random guy unconscious with a hurled hot flatiron because he was trying to get in her screen door. Another time literally kicked another dude’s ass to the property line of the apartment complex she managed.

Also, yeah, there was racism. Deeply buried racism in her own family upbringing so creepy, violent and horrible that the only way to properly recount it is in person. She was from the deep south and “shit went down” is all I can say.

NYPD Assessing ISIS Threat to Blogger Pamela Geller

Charles Johnson, who inadvertently gave Geller her start back in 2005 by allowing her to spew venom on his Little Green Footballs political blog, said “it’s pretty obvious she had been trying to incite this kind of violence.”

“She finally has gotten what she wanted,” Johnson said, when asked if Geller relished being an ISIS target. “She is going to be milking this for all it’s worth.”

Johnson said he does not get Geller’s “anti-Muslim animus.” He said the one time he met her in person that was all she would talk about.

“I really couldn’t wait to get away from her,” he said. “So obsessive and weird about it. It was hard to talk to her. She must have had something happen to her in the past.”

Apropos in that Chuck has experience with pooping on the floor. The nice thing about sleeping in your car in California, should you ever have to, is that it has State and Nation Park campgrounds you can go to, and sometimes you can park in an out of the way Starbucks parking lot and it will stay open ‘til late and opens again early at like 5:30 and they leave the wifi on all night. There’s no outdoor or floor crappery involved.

But the Koch brothers’ disproportionate influence on the state’s politics rubbed some Republicans, including the governor’s top political adviser, the wrong way.

Tom Ingram, the advisor to Haslam and a registered lobbyist during the last session for a business group supporting Insure Tennessee, blames the situation on the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision.

He said AFP is able to pour money directly and indirectly into state politics and push their agenda in ways that individual voters cannot.

He got addicted to the attention the Holocaust denial crowd heaped upon him. They fed his ego so he was happy to provide them with the opinion they wanted.

When you want a refund for being a dolt and buying two tickets? Don’t see how that could be resolved on Twitter. But then, I don’t tweet, so what the hell do I know?

I’m pretty sure nothing is going to get resolved at that point.

I had an irate tweet to my previous webhost complaining about the fact that they wouldn’t give me a refund within 7 days of my hosting renewal. Coincidentally, although they say it wasn’t because of my tweet, someone did review the case a second time and I got my refund (which I should have in the first place).

Given that it was a very grumpy tweet, I did delete it and tweet out that things had been resolved to my satisfaction.

I don’t doubt that he actually knows a thing or two about executions, degree or not, but even a degree wouldn’t make him an expert on historical gas chambers, because one doesn’t simply come in and begin an “inspection” without any prior knowledge whatsoever (for starters, one has to know whether what we see today corresponds to the initial state).

As long as it’s not to the northeast of it you’re probably ok.

It sounds like this is on the weaker side; they haven’t been seeing power flashes.

Between 36th and 48th. They’re seeing the first power flashes now.

I guess I just assume that airline twitter accounts are not really manned by customer service reps.

Did you rely on the tweet communication or did you, you know, actually call somebody to resolve your issue?

In that case, I had a ticket as well. But I’ve interacted with the reps on United’s account and they are actual customer service reps who look into cases for folks. Generally pre-existing cases, but.

The thing that got me in the documentary is when he crawls down into the remains of Auschwitz and tries to play scientist.

In 1988, Leuchter traveled to several sites of structures identified as gas chambers, where, although he did not have permission to do so, he collected samples from walls, ceilings and floors, using a chisel and hammer to chip and scrape off pieces of the masonry. He took copious notes about the floor plans and layout, and all of his actions were videotaped by a cameraman. (Leuchter, who had been married for about one month before the trip, told his wife that the trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau was their honeymoon.[12]) Leuchter then brought the samples back to Boston, where he presented them to Alpha Analytical Laboratories, a chemical laboratory, for testing. Leuchter told Alpha only that the samples were to be used as evidence in a court case about an industrial accident. The lab tested them for exposure to cyanide and found trace amounts in the crematoria, which Leuchter dismissed in his report:

It is notable that almost all the samples were negative and that the few that were positive were very close to the detection level (1mg/kg); 6.7 mg/kg at Krema III; 7.9 mg/kg at Krema I. The absence of any consequential readings at any of the tested locations as compared to the control sample reading 1050 mg/kg supports the evidence that these facilities were not execution gas chambers. The small quantities detected would indicate that at some point these buildings were deloused with Zyklon B — as were all the buildings at all these facilities.

Leuchter compares the low amounts in the Krema to the higher readings in his positive control sample.

Lab manager James Roth testified under oath to the results at the trial. It was only after he got off the stand that Roth learned what the trial was about. In an interview for Morris’ film, Roth states that cyanide would have formed an extremely fine layer on the walls, to the depth of one-tenth of a human hair. Leuchter had taken samples of indeterminate thickness (he is seen in Morris’ film hammering at the bricks with a rock hammer). Not informed of this, Roth had pulverized the entire samples, thus severely diluting the cyanide-containing layer of each sample with an indeterminate amount of brick, varying for each sample. Roth offers the analogy that the tests were like “analyzing paint on a wall by analyzing the timber that’s behind it.”[12]

Leuchter did not examine the walls of the gas chambers until 50 years after they had been used; his critics note that it would have been virtually impossible to discover any cyanide at all using his method. In fact, tests conducted on ventilation grates immediately after the end of the war showed substantial amounts of cyanide. The chambers were demolished by the Nazis when they abandoned Auschwitz, and the facilities Leuchter examined were, in fact, partially reconstructed. Leuchter was unaware that part of the camp and chambers were reconstructed, so he had no way of knowing if the bricks he was scraping were actually part of the original gas chamber.

The guy was just enormously incompetent.

Every Muslim from the oldest Muslim woman to the newborns is an adherent to Jihad and ISIL. Confirmed fact.// I have no problem calling out Muslim human rights abuses. I also have a problem acting like Geller, Spencer, Willders, and the other fuckwads do as if Muslims alone are guilty of these problems.

It’s because no one on the GOP side has the sheer cojones to say “Sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up. No one cares what you think, so blow it out your ass.”

Because that’s their base. Or, at least, their “lock”.
