Mike Huckabee Defends “Renting” His Email List to Quacks

This is a VERY bad man.
Politics • Views: 29,743

GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has said some remarkably idiotic things over the past several years, but this is mind bending.

Yesterday, CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Huckabee about the propriety of “renting” his email list to an advertiser peddling a “cancer cure” hidden in the bible (as reported in The New York Times earlier this year). He responded:

My gosh, that’s like saying, ‘You run some ads on CNN. Do you personally agree with all the ads that run on CNN?’

I doubt you do. I’m sure there are some for maybe, I don’t know, catheters or adult diapers. They’re not products that you use or that you necessarily believe in. I don’t hold you responsible for that, and in that same way I don’t think that people that understand how advertising works would hold me responsible for something that I didn’t personally sign up for or endorse.

Let’s take a look at the MAJOR problems here, shall we?

A) There is an ENORMOUS difference between selling products that are medical supplies and allowing an advertiser access to your supporters for the purposes of claiming passages in the bible can cure cancer.

B) Jake Tapper is not CNN. However, Mike Huckabee is Mike Huckabee. When you are a public figure who has had a career as a Southern Baptist minister, it is not unreasonable for a supporter to assume a product with a biblical tie-in is being implicitly endorsed when the pitch comes directly from Mike Huckabee.

C) Huckabee has, in fact, personally endorsed similar quackery…a “weird spice, kitchen-cabinet cure” for diabetes. Here is a still shot from his internet infomercial, also passed along to his email list.

The word “renting” is in quotes in the title of this page, because what he really did was SELL charlatans a chance to reach a large number of gullible idiots…namely his own political supporters.

This type of disgusting behavior would disqualify this man from seeking public office ever again as a member of a respectable political party. Fortunately for him, he is a Republican.

It’s frustrating that so many conservatives like Beck, Huckabee and Limbaugh can get so much money, but advertisers realize that their followers are the most gullible rubes on the planet so they are willing to spend big bucks to get access to them.

Huckabee is a religious fraud, so I’d expect him to help people peddle religion-based snake-oil. This is what his subculture is all about.

He’s shilling BS medical claims. And he’s seeking out the nomination to be president of the US on a major party (GOP).

His actions are only slightly less slimy than those of say Dr. Oz, who is an actual medical doctor (surgeon) who was touting miracle cures and other pill popping wonders. Whereas Oz has a medical degree and should be tossed from his position at Columbia U medical school for his dishonest hackery, the only thing that the US public can do when faced with Huckabee’s BS is to ignore Huckabee as a political figure and put your votes elsewhere.

Huckabee is putting his profits over the safety and wellbeing of the public. Selling mailing lists so that outfits can profit on these bogus claims is a distinction by degree. He signed up with these outfits in the first place. He put his name and face to these products. He endorsed them.

He’s going to make money off gullible people buying this crap. And people could potentially come to harm because they buy this crap instead of going to a doctor and getting properly treated.

Yet another reason to not trust Huckabee.

I have a dear friend of longstanding who’s quite conservative, especially on the social side of the issues list. At the same time, he’s benefited immensely from ACA and has been very outspoken about that on FB - I’m talking about non-snarky “Thanks, Obama” posts on several occasions.

But he’s also very devoutly Christian, and that part of his upbringing apparently overrides everything else, so he’s loudly endorsing the Huckster even though it would mean the end of the healthcare that’s helped him in some very big ways over the last couple of years. Go figure.

I freaking hate opt out functions. There should be a damn law against it. If your product or service is all that and I need it, let me opt in.

Asking someone to opt out might bring you some business one time. However, I wonder how many ever buy something again when they are duped like that.

I guess it is one of those ‘get all you can then move on business plans.’

Boilerplate.

It basically says that if there’s 3d party stuff on the site, he’s not responsible for the content, or what happens to your private data (tracking/cookies/etc) when it’s used by the 3d party.

He’s claiming he isn’t responsible if say there’s a feed coming through (like say via twitter) or some other aggregated data source that he’s not responsible for the content of that data or what the 3d party might do with tracking cookies or the like.

An army helicopter has crashed in a mountainous part of northern Pakistan, killing seven people, including the Philippine and Norwegian ambassadors.

It crashed during an emergency landing in the Gilgit-Baltistan territory.

The wives of the Indonesian and Malaysian envoys, two pilots and a crew member also died. They were to attend the opening of a tourism project.

Two senior Pakistani ministers said the crash was down to a technical fault.

Nobody expresses hate speech with as much friendly affability as Mike Huckabee. Geraldo: ‘Every time I see Geller on TV, I want to take a shower’

Fox & Friends had Geraldo Rivera on the show Friday morning to discuss Pamela Geller and the shooting incident outside her “Draw Muhammad” contest. As you might expect, given his recent comments, Rivera had a plethora of harsh things to say about the anti-Islam activist.

“She most reminds me of the Aryan Nation, KKK, racists,” he said. “I see them on television now and I feel like taking a shower. If Pamela Geller, if you put ‘Jew’ in there or ‘Irish’ in there or ‘black’ in there, any other groups, she would not be given the tolerance to spew her hateful rhetoric,” he continued. Naturally, the Fox & Friends hosts disagreed, trotting out the argument that, of course, such speech never justifies being targeted with violence.

Rivera agreed that the terroristic response is terrible — the two gunmen “got exactly what they deserved,” he said — but that hateful people like Geller need to be shunned for their instigative speech.

re: #73 WhatEVs

I had one of those call centers in India call me to say they were from Microsoft and all I had to do to fix my horribly (according to them) broken computer was go to their website and follow their instructions.

I played dumb (which I do really, really well - no snide comments! :-) ) and kept asking them over and over what website? Who are they? Well, of course I want my machine fixed! Who are you? What website? What’s the URL? How do I do that? (blink blink head tilt bat eyelashes)

I just wanted to waste their time since I had time that day to do so.

When they finally figured out I wasn’t going to play their silly games the guy threatened me by saying they were going to report me to Microsoft and that my internet would be turned off.

I was laughing so hard when he said that…through guffaws and tears I told him to have at it.

I think my Dad got one of those one time and thought it was for real. That’s brilliant what you did. This wasn’t a scam but when I was taking care of my Cell Phone stuff for my Euro trip last year, I was having a hard time with the Imessage and stuff and the lady was getting a little frustrated and my brother said loudly “This lady thinks we’re idiots.” She clearly heard him but didn’t say anything heh.

I mean I know immediately something’s up if it’s an area code I’ve never been to or don’t know anyone in. That is one good thing about the iPhone is it tells you the location of the area code of the caller. For instance if I were to call you, it would probably say Fairfax, Va or something like that. It’s just frustrating when you get the calls when I’m waking up in the morning and hoping that maybe it’s a follow up about a job I applied for.

This is such horseshit. Some career criminal. All low level offenses but for the ones where the charges were dropped. They don’t usually drop charges unless they are unprovable.

Of course the police union approves.

Webster’s attorney, James Liguori, however, released a statement earlier this week that claimed Dickerson is a combative “career felon” and that his client’s use of force was proper and necessary.

A search through Superior Court found Dickerson’s criminal record stretched back to 2002 when he was found guilty of first-degree reckless endangering and civil contempt.

The searches also found he was convicted on several drug offenses, a couple of drinking under the influence and a pair of charges of resisting arrest.

Dickerson also was charged in June 2008 with attempted murder and first-degree robbery. Those charges were dismissed later that year.

‘Put on your raping shoes and find this b*tch’: Abby Martin is the latest target of crazed Chris Kyle sycophants

Martin had criticized Kyle in the past for describing Iraqis as “savages” in his book. She also described the American Sniper movie as “dangerous propaganda that sanitizes a mass murdering psycho.” But it was her shirt that appears to have set off a campaign of harassment against her.

This week, conservative websites posted a picture of Martin wearing a “F*ck Chris Kyle” shirt. She had uploaded a photo of the shirt to her Instagram account last week. One website, which incorrectly identified her as a “liberal artist,” called on readers to “publicly shame” her for her “treasonous actions.”

Another such website complained: “Chris Kyle is an American hero who is an easy target because he is no longer alive. Abbey Martin [sic], is just a coward hiding behind the freedoms that our military has granted her when she was born on this great land that we call the United States of America.”

The reaction on social media was even more visceral. Users of Twitter and Facebook have mentioned raping and beheading her, threatened to murder her, told her to kill herself, and bombarded her with misogynistic insults. Addicting Info reported that one person called on American Sniper fans to “put on our raping shoes and find this b*tch.”

“F*cking c*nt. How dare you disgrace his name like that. He gave his life so you can have yours. F*cking b*tch. Don’t worry I know where you live thanks to your ip address. And don’t worry I’m a Marine,” said Jamie Lugo in a message shared by Martin. “So u won’t see me coming. I’m going to cause you pain beyond your imagination.” He later added: “Tic toc times running out.”

99 lawhawk  May 8, 2015 11:57:28am

This is rich:

Howie Carr and Gov. Christie get into a shouting match over Christie’s proposals for means testing SS and Carr says that it’s a bait and switch to anyone who’s paid into the system (hey, sound familiar to anyone who just saw the IL supreme court rule that attempts to change the pension by anything other than a constitutional amendment is unconstitutional because the contractual obligation between the state and pensioneers trumps the politics of raiding the fund and underpaying the fund over years). It’s the same story in NJ where Christie refused to fully fund the pension after rewriting the pension rule swearing that he’d make a full payment. He didn’t, and the pensioneers sued. Christie cries state poverty, but refuses to touch taxes to close the gap.

Rinse and repeat. Every time, it’s the GOP kicking the buck down the line, adding to deficits, debt, and pension/transportation trust fund shortfalls.

It’s the very model of a fiscally irresponsible illiterate.

I think it’s an act personally. Either way, he’s made a nice fortune the past six years acting like the Obama administration is out to get him. I said it a few nights ago but people like that are why you don’t see me going rah rah capitalism. And yes I realize there are legitimate innovators out there who deserve their wealth but i doubt Adam Smith intended his economic system to be used by charlatans to claim that someone was trying to kill them and then to make millions off of it. Beck’s nothing more than a con artist, act or no act.
