White House on Seymour Hersh’s Bin Laden Article: “Patently False”

“Inaccuracies and baseless assertions”
Media • Views: 25,796

Lots of buzz today about the latest Seymour Hersh conspiracy piece, published by the London Review of Books, claiming that the official story about the death of Osama bin Laden was a Big Lie; but the White House is heatedly rejecting Hersh’s claims.

In a piece published in the London Review of Books on May 10, Hersh disputes the official account of the operation and intelligence that led to bin Laden’s death. Relying heavily on an individual identified as an “retired senior intelligence official ” Hersh reports that bin Laden had been held prisoner by Pakistani intelligence since 2006, and that Pakistani intelligence cooperated with the Central Intelligence Agency and US Navy SEALs in the raid to kill bin Laden.

In a statement tweeted by CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta, White House national security spokesman Ned Price said that Hersh’s report contained “too many inaccuracies and baseless assertions” to fact check.

“The notion that the operation that killed Osama bin Laden was anything but a unilateral US mission is patently false,” Price said.

“As we said at the time, knowledge of this operation was confined to a very small circle of US officials. The president decided early on not to inform any other government, including the Pakistani government, which was not notified until after the raid had occurred,” Price said.

“This was a US operation through and through,” Price said.

Seymour Hersh is justly famous for his exposure of the My Lai massacre in 1969, but since then he’s done much to diminish his reputation, often veering into outright conspiracy theories. This piece is emblematic of that decline; riddled with inconsistencies and largely based on statements from a single anonymous source.

This is just a distraction to take our eyes off of the Army’s invasion of Texas.

It is clear to us that OBL is not dead, merely waiting to take over the Caliphate of Texas as soon as it is declared.

Of course, who else but Greenwald would be out there cheering on Hersh’s BS?

And yes, I spelled Hersh’s name wrong. Know a Hersch, so it’s easy to get ‘em confused.

You must admit that he does have an uncanny knack for finding the lowest common denominator.

Just trying to square the idea of how OBL was supposedly a prisoner of Paki Intel with how Paki Intel and the CIA worked together on the raid that killed OBL.

Just trying to square the idea of how OBL was supposedly a prisoner of Paki Intel with how Paki Intel and the CIA worked together on the raid that killed OBL.

My take on this, and I’m no expert at all, is that there probably were elements inside Paki Intel that were aware of OBL’s presence. I think that the White House made a call NOT to give Pakistan advance notice of the raid in order to prevent the, in my mind, real possibility of OBL being tipped off.

This is just conjecture on my part. I doubt we will ever know all the details for a number of reasons, and I’m OK with that.

Some have criticized Hersh’s use of anonymous sources in his reporting, implying that some of these sources are unreliable or even made up. In a review of Hersh’s book, Chain of Command, commentator Amir Taheri wrote, “As soon as he has made an assertion he cites a ‘source’ to back it. In every case this is either an un-named former official or an unidentified secret document passed to Hersh in unknown circumstances. … By my count Hersh has anonymous ‘sources’ inside 30 foreign governments and virtually every department of the U.S. government.”[7]

I’m totally shocked. Who could have seen this coming? Also, it’s still totally believable to me that Trayvon Martin attacked this guy out of the bushes for no reason as he was heading back to his truck. Which took him over four minutes, but still. He was heading back and this kid totally attacked him for no reason.

Plus he’s meek. And never fights. And would never fire a weapon unless he had to.

Totally.
