Defunct Furniture Store Leaves Behind Hateful Message for Area “Commies”

Hard to believe this guy couldn’t stay in business!
Wingnuts • Views: 28,609

You will probably be aware that Kansas is among the reddest of red states. There are, however, exceptions to every rule. Lawrence is home to the large University of Kansas and is a significant liberal enclave in the state.

Recently, the owner of a Lawrence furniture store in operation since 1978 closed his doors for good. He was nice enough to leave a message on a truck parked in front of his former shop for the community, which naturally includes many of his former customers:

No idea what the extra stars on the flag represent!

The “Town Talk” online blog from the Lawrence Journal-World newspaper identifies the departing shop owner as Robert “Bob” Fyfe. While online reviews are always to be taken with a grain of salt, a quick search shows a pattern of behavior:

I have nothing good to say about this place or my experience there - Yelp 2010

I will absolutely never shop there again. For me it all comes down to how unbelievably rude “Bob” the owner was to my wife and I. - Pissed Consumer 2014

I was having a friendly conversation with an associate about K-State and KU. Bob suddenly chimed in, very loudly, saying that he doesn’t like Lawrence or KU because Lawrence “has the highest percentage of [black] people in the state”. He went on a rant about how KU and Lawrence are trying to attract [black] people and how disgusting that is. I was shocked to say the least. - Pissed Consumer 2014

I’d just bought a bed from him, and while he was ringing up my order, he started ranting about black people (he used the n word) ruining Kansas, esp Lawrence. WTF? Did he think that a white customer would welcome his comments? - Pissed Consumer 2015

It truly is a pity that “commies” were able to drive this responsible business owner from the community!

Wow, third promotion in a week. Thanks Charles!

This is probably a good opportunity to let my friends here know what is behind my increased output: I have been diagnosed with a “neurodegenerative disorder”. We are still in the process of narrowing down exactly what specifically we are dealing with here and what type of treatment options there might be. Contributing pages is good therapy for me: attempting to keep myself sharp and distracted from the situation at the same time.

More fun with wingnuts:

Lang, a 49-year-old resident of Fort Mill, S.C., has bleeding in his eyes and a partially detached retina caused by diabetes.

“He will lose his eyesight if he doesn’t get care. He will go blind,” said Dr. Malcolm Edwards, the Lancaster, S.C., ophthalmologist who examined Lang.

Lang is a self-employed handyman who works with banks and the federal government on maintaining foreclosed properties. He has done well enough that his wife, Mary, hasn’t had to work. They live in a 3,300-square-foot home in the Legacy Park subdivision valued at more than $300,000.

But he has never bought insurance. Instead, he says, he prided himself on paying his own medical bills.

That worked while he and his wife were relatively healthy. But after 10 days of an unrelenting headache, Lang went to the emergency room on Feb. 25. He says he was told he’d suffered several mini-strokes. He ran up $9,000 in bills and exhausted his savings. Meanwhile, his vision worsened and he can’t work, he says.

That’s when he turned to the Affordable Care Act exchange. Lang learned two things: First, 2015 enrollment had closed earlier that month. And second, because his income has dried up, he earns too little to get a federal subsidy to buy a private policy.

Lang, a Republican, says he knew the act required him to get coverage but he chose not to do so. But he thought help would be available in an emergency. He and his wife blame President Obama and Congressional Democrats for passing a complex and flawed bill.

“(My husband) should be at the front of the line because he doesn’t work and because he has medical issues,” Mary Lang said last week. “We call it the Not Fair Health Care Act.”

I have no pity for him.

He deliberately avoided the insurance. He made his bet, and he lost. Personal responsibility, anybody?

Natch, it’s all Obama’s fault with these people.

Not to mention that the governor of S.C. refused the Medicare expansion, which would have covered him.

But is he blaming himself for not signing up when he was supposed to or blaming the governor for not expanding Medicare? Nope.

It’s Obama’s fault. SMH

Prior to Obamacare, he couldn’t have gotten insurance anyway due to his preexisting conditions.

Remember the Republicans talking about how people who don’t take care of themselves and have preexisting conditions shouldn’t be allowed to get insurance? Since Obamacare was passed, that problem went away. He could have gotten insurance if he’d tried.

Not up on SS disability, but I think there is a rather punitive waiting period between disability onset and full benefits.

Even when they are…. Ever since Jacques Pépin taught me how to hard boil an egg, I’ve been poking holes in the broad end and dumping them into already boiling water. Used to be when people were doing the candling, you could depend on the small end being down in the carton. Now with automatic candlers, you can’t depend on that. Guess wrong and you get egg flower soup. First World problems, I guess.

He could also think about selling that 3366 sq ft, 2 story house on an acre lot that he’s going to wind up losing, and downsize. Isn’t that what they tell starving people to do?

That’s a large house just for 2 people to be rattling around in, from looking at the photo, also. It has 3 baths, # of BRs isn’t shown, but probably 4. And it’s in Indian Land, not Ft. Mill. Ft Mill pretty much filled up over the years as a white flight destination, got crowded and IL, an unincorporated area, now fills that bill. It’s located just south of Ballantyne, which is an exclusive development in Charlotte. All are sought-after areas for whites.

Totally OT, but I ordered one of those hair cutting kits because after they shaved my head in the hospital and I regrew my hair, I decided I liked it better short (cooler, low maintenance), so I chopped it off myself. Twice. In the bathroom with all purpose scissors. Yeah, I know—it did come out all crappy & uneven—but I didn’t really care ‘cause no one sees my hair anyway except the cats, and as long as I provide food, clean litter, and affection on demand, they couldn’t care less what my hair looks like.

Anyway, it arrived today and I just tried it out. Woohoo—totally loving it! It’s super fast and the guide combs means there won’t be any weird long and/or bald spots. *happy dance*

Macaroni salad trail leads to arrest for 3

A trail of macaroni salad led police investigators in Livingston County to three suspected burglars on Sunday.

Deputies of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary at Build-A-Burger Restaurant in Mt. Morris at 6:30 a.m., after the owners reported their surveillance system and cash register were missing.

The investigation led police to the Greenway Trail, a hiking and biking path, where they found cash register parts, surveillance system parts, rubber gloves, loose change and “a steady trail of macaroni salad,” according to a news release issued by the office.

I’ll bet Lang hasn’t file an honest tax return in years. A normal person with a diagnosis like that which prevented work would hurry up and file a SS claim, even if s/he did think a turn down was coming the first time. And if he’s been paid on a 1099 from his various jobs and hasn’t paid into SS, he’s going to find out exactly how little SC is willing to give him in SSI. At least he’d get Medicaid then. He qualified for a loan for a $300K house (in 2005) and only had $9K in savings lately. and his wife didn’t work? He must have been making a bundle or got one of those liar loans through one of the banks he works for.

“Knowing what we know now, of course we wouldn’t go into Iraq,” the Texas Republican told The Hill on Tuesday.

“At the time, the intelligence reports indicated that Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction that posed a significant national security threat to this country. That’s the reason there was such widespread bipartisan support for going into Iraq,” he added. “We now know in hindsight, those intelligence reports were false.”
“Without that predicate, it is difficult to imagine the decision would have been made to go into Iraq, and that predicate proved erroneous,” Cruz said.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the RWNJs handle this one. I suspect that it’s going to be some version of “Of course it’s a mistake, Saddam wasn’t that bad.”

Going to have to make up some popcorn.

What did you get? I’ve been having horrible headaches. I cut off 6” myself then went to a salon and got another 3” off and had it layered. Then when I got home, I hit it with my thinning shears (I have a ton of hair).

I’m thinking of going short but I hate having to get it cut monthly (my hair grows about 1” a month, 1.5” in winter months). An At Home solution would be fab!

Probably not.

“For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens ‘as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone,’” he will say.

“It’s often meant we have stood neutral between different values. And that’s helped foster a narrative of extremism and grievance.”

The Conservative government will “conclusively turn the page on this failed approach,” he will add, saying the UK must confront “head-on the poisonous Islamist extremist ideology”.

The good news is, the guys at my company aren’t really that evil about it. He took me to task, but it was simple and professional, and when I met him yesterday afternoon to talk about a proper design, we laughed and had a good time, and we all agreed that the impromptu nature of this project did not lend itself to proper planning and forethought.

I know exactly how you feel.

And I just finished editing that 200-some page report that I was bitching about (and not working on) over the weekend. 18 actual hours since Sunday on the thing. And I had to not only edit and proofread the copy that was written by four separate people, but also include comments/edits from 3 different agencies who had a go at it. My eyes are crossing.

And some of it was just amazingly tedious—like a chart that appeared in 3 different chapters, but was different in each one. Lucky for them that I’m a total pedant when it comes to shit like that.

Now, some wine and relaxation. Ahhhh.

133 freetoken  May 12, 2015 5:41:41pm

I see McKibben in continuing with the friendly fire:

Obama’s Catastrophic Climate-Change Denial

What McKibben cannot own, his own beliefs disallow it, is that a US President has far less ability to change what we are doing wrt changing the physical and biological environment than the Congress has.

And the reason Congress doesn’t really tackle climate change is that there is little political motivation for them to do so.

So what McKibben has transferred to President Obama is what McKibben ought to be directing at his fellow Americans.
