In Which Seymour Hersh Comes Off as a Paranoid Nut

Really whacked out
Media • Views: 33,395

Wow. It’s almost impossible to describe this interview with Seymour Hersh by Slate’s Isaac Chotiner; it’s really really out there. Just go read it: Seymour Hersh Interview: On His Bin Laden Story, the New Yorker, Journalism, and His Own Bad Mood.

When I posted my criticisms of his piece on Osama bin Laden a couple of days ago, I didn’t expect to see validation of my points quite this soon.

I’m sorry, I know politicians lie and all that happy horseshit, but President Obama has earned enough trust from me that I’m sure the broad outlines of his version are substantially correct.

Ya know what…a one point this man was revered in the Black community. If you were Black and wanted to be a Doctor or a surgeon, Ben Carson was a name you knew and respected. As someone who once wanted to be a doctor, this one hits me hard.

Now I consider him a freakin’ joke, no better than Herman Cain or Allen West. How the mighty have fallen.

Did not MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell report part of this Hersh story and use it as some kind of a dig at Obama? I thought someone hinted at that here at LGF.

He manages to take a pretty good swipe at her. I haven’t heard much of the reporting on this whole story. It seemed to be more a look-at-me type of story from the get-go designed to bring Hersh’s name back out to relive some glory. So, I’ve ignored it until reading this Slate piece.

I’m feeling old today (turning 61 in a month). I had to drive 4.5 hours to look at a completed construction project. It was pouring rain when I got there so I couldn’t get any good pictures, and the actual meeting took less than an hour. I then got back in the car and drove back into the heart of Twin Cities rush hour.

The meeting was in the heart of MN summer vacation territory. It was just like going on vacation only without the vacation.

It’s nice to get out of the office, but nine hours of driving in one day sucks.

I pretty much hate anything where Total Drive Time > Total Time Spend Doing Said Thing. And it’s pretty much in a direct relationship. Same way about shopping. If I’m making a 120 mile round trip to The Woodcraft Shop, or 100 to REI, you better believe that I’m spending a bunch o bucks. (Pretty much has to be a buck per mile to make me feel like it was worth it).

And upChuck is a warped little troglodyte and in a kinder and more civilized society would be expelled beyond the city gates with nothing more than a loin-cloth. In Winter. At Night.

Even if you believe the Hersh story (and I sure as hell don’t), the result is still the same: OBL is dead. It doesn’t matter if you believe the official story or Hersh’s long fanfic about a grand conspiracy between the Pakistani gov’t, ISI, and the White House. Doesn’t matter if you believe OBL is fish food or rotting on some mountain. He’s dead, it’s over, let’s move on.

Conservatives make me want to fucking puke.

Assembly passes food stamp restrictions, drug testing

Most of the bills putting new requirements on public benefits probably won’t be implemented even if signed into law. That’s because they depend on federal approval and finding the millions of state taxpayer dollars needed to carry out drug tests and treatment and to force people on FoodShare to avoid luxuries and eat healthier meals.

The food stamp bill is opposed by a coalition of state business groups that say it could prevent the purchase of foods grown and made in Wisconsin.

“Though well-intentioned, Assembly Bill 177 is a threat to both job creation in our state and our right to decide for ourselves what to put in our grocery carts,” a statement reads from the coalition that includes the Grocery Manufacturers Association, the Midwest Food Processors Association, the Wisconsin Pork Association, the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers, and the Wisconsin State Cranberry Association.

Under the proposal, people couldn’t buy crab, lobster or other shellfish with food stamps and would have to spend two-thirds of their benefits on produce, beef, pork, poultry, potatoes, dairy products or food available under the Women, Infants and Children nutrition program.

Majority of Ted Cruz, Rick Perry and Tea Party members believe that the federal gov. is planning on invading and taking over Texas.

They have the breakouts / crosstabs at RWW

A new survey from Public Policy Polling finds [PDF] that one-third of Republicans believe the Jade Helm 15 conspiracy theory that “the government is trying to take over Texas,” and another 28 percent of GOP voters haven’t made up their minds yet about the matter.

The right-wing frenzy over an upcoming military exercise called Jade Helm 15 has swept up the Republican governor of Texas and several other GOP leaders who wonder if the drill is part of a plan by President Obama to seize Texas, impose martial law, confiscate firearms and throw conservatives into closed Walmart stores that have been converted into FEMA camps.

Among Republicans, PPP found that supporters of former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz were most likely to believe the conspiracy theory.

What would CCJ do without Twitter?

The same thing he does with Twitter, though fewer people would care.

Just got into a screaming match with my pops over the phone. It started when I asked him ‘Who’d you vote for? Hillary or [fill in the blank with random GOP clown car candidate]?’ He went off on me, saying the Clintons are murderers and that Bill let the genocide happen in Rwanda. It was ugly. He asked ‘So are you gonna fuckin’ vote for Hillary?’ ‘Maybe.’ He hung on up me. I have to go over to their house tomorrow and fuckin’ smooth things over. Ugh.

Sigh…

Poor kid was lucky he didn’t get tased or shot.

Really, Lizards, (if this story is accurate), what kind of human sprays mace into the face of a ten year old child?

Isn’t it time we have a serious discussion about the level of police violence against our citizens?

I live in a conservative suburb of Dallas. My family and I were talking about this at dinner last week, and I wondered how many people in the restaurant believe that the invasion of Texas in imminent.

Are they Republican or way left?

Either way, good luck. This is why I rarely talk politics with my family. I’m supposed to get along with them.

Well, I’m going to be outta here early tonight. Did my swim tests for Divemaster, 400 meter swim (just trunks, no gear), 800 meters with fins / mask / snorkel (legs only, no arms allowed), tread water 15 minutes (last two with hands out of water), 100 yards towing another diver (both of us in full gear). All the swim events were timed, and I did well enough on them that I won’t have to redo any.

I had planned on spending a month or so training for it, sort of got surprised with it, said “What the hell, if I don’t pass it, no biggie, at least I’ve got a baseline to work from”.

In any case, I’m feeling it now. : )

in any case, stolen from a FB post…

108 teleskiguy  May 13, 2015 8:44:36pm

I would consider my parents on the political spectrum thus: mom’s center-left, dad’s center-right. But there is a seething hatred of anything Clinton that I had forgotten about until tonight with dad. I can remember him being virulently anti-Clinton anything when he was president. My pops listened to Rush Limbaugh a lot in those days, he loved it. He doesn’t listen to talk radio anymore, thank dog.

First thing I’m saying to my dad tomorrow in his face, “I promise to never talk about the Clintons with you ever again. Buds?”

GotNwes has pinpointed the real cause of the Amtrak188 crash

BREAKING: GotNwes IDs black Muslim gay ginger #Amtrak188 train conductor engineer
Thanks to the efforts of, like, real journalists, gotnwes.com has independently identified the engineer at the center of the Amtrak crash that has killed at least seven.

The fact that he was at the center of the crash may have had something to do with it. Probably he should have been in the lead car, y’know?

The engineer is a 32-year-old ginger! And we all know they shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near machinery of any kind, including computers and cellphones, or they might get onto Twitter and say shit that makes no sense.

I have a thought criminal. Join me in the gulag. It will be our base of operations. #Amtrak

re: #28 Charles Johnson

They’ve dropped the “scary ISIS terrorists” meme now, in favor of the “radical left wing gay activist” meme.

The sick part of that is that ISIS really did do something horrible today, in Benghazi no less:

Four children were killed in rocket attack on an area of the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi where Islamic State militants claimed responsibility for a mortar attack, officials said on Wednesday.

The children were killed on Tuesday when a rocket hit their neighborhood, near an area where army forces and Islamist brigades have been fighting, Libya’s internationally recognized government said in a statement.

“Four innocent children were killed by an extremist terrorist group in one of the ugliest crimes,” the government of Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thinni said in a statement.

Militants claiming loyalty to Islamic State said on Twitter they had fired mortar rockets into the district where the children were killed. They posted pictures purportedly showing their fighters loading and firing mortars, without mentioning the children.

“OUTRAGEOUS OUTRAGES!!1” aren’t needed to show the monstrous nature of the so-called Islamic State, as its followers commit a steady stream of atrocities, this latest one worse than the Benghazi Consulate attack in 2012.

And yes, I said this is worse, morally if nothing else. Those who died in the consulate attack were all grown men who’d volunteered to be there, whereas today’s dead were all children who were simply born to people living in Benghazi and who were murdered in what amounts to a terror bombardment.

Wow.

re: #115 Dark_Falcon

Sorry about the depressing story, folks. But some of the “screaming about the wrong problem” aspects of UpChuck’s DERPery got on my nerves, and at such times I find it useful to remember the real evil of the enemy. Because the screamers still don’t get it: Attacking America is a secondary matter for Daesh, what they really want is to take territory in the Islamic world. They don’t want Benghazi as a base from which to run criminal operations and mount terror attacks, as Al-Qaeda would, they seek to control the city because they want rule it.

A very simple but effective case against ISIS is this: They think they have the right to rule the world, and they’re willing to randomly children in furtherance of their goal.
