GOHMERT! A 5-Year Old Hate Crime Law Will Make Christianity Illegal

They’re coming for Christians any day now
Wingnuts • Views: 39,943

Louie Gohmert, dumbest man in Congress, went on the radio show of right wing Florida loon Joyce Kaufman yesterday to advocate for Pamela Geller’s right to spew hatred at Muslims, and along the way he stopped to warn the swivel-eyed audience that the 2010 Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act is going to lead to Christians being persecuted for hate speech.

In the five years since the passage of the law, not a single Christian has been prosecuted under it for quoting the Bible, but this never stops the Gohmerts from using it to drum up some fear in the fanatical wingnut base, bless their little hearts.

These people spend more time on loony talk radio shows than in the halls of Congress.

“I mentioned some years back that hate crimes, eventually, somebody is going to bring that up when a Christian says, ‘I believe what Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, the life, nobody goes to the Father but through me,”’” Gohmert said. “That is hate speech. You’re saying that nobody else but you goes to Heaven? That’s hate speech.”

Well, the part about everyone else burning forever in hell could be construed as hate speech, except we know it’s an imaginary place. Your hateful imaginings, though of questionable morality, are perfectly legal.

Hearing that scare threat, as we hear rather frequently these days, always makes me snort a little with amusement. It’s quite the admission, isn’t it? Acknowledging themselves to be such hateful bigots and racists, desperately fighting to hang onto that murderous hate as the rest of us wish to move on in a more pleasant and tolerant fashion.

Gohmert is just rolling on this statement (I won’t take up space w/all of it).

“Over the past few weeks, my office has been inundated with calls referring to the Jade Helm 15 military exercise scheduled to take place between July 15 and September 15, 2015. This military practice has some concerned that the U.S. Army is preparing for modern-day martial law.

Certainly, I can understand these concerns. When leaders within the current administration believe that major threats to the country include those who support the Constitution, are military veterans, or even ‘cling to guns or religion,’ patriotic Americans have reason to be concerned. We have seen people working in this administration use their government positions to persecute people with conservative beliefs in God, country, and notions such as honor and self-reliance. Because of the contempt and antipathy for the true patriots or even Christian saints persecuted for their Christian beliefs, it is no surprise that those who have experienced or noticed such persecution are legitimately suspicious. (my emphasis)

During a heated exchange in testimony before the House Judiciary Committee Wednesday in regard to the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings, U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tyler) appeared to get flustered and said U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder had questioned his integrity and “cast aspersions on my asparagus.”

Friday afternoon, Gohmert gave an explanation for his bizarre remark.

“The expression ‘casting aspersions on my asparagus’ is something I found to be helpful in defusing heated exchanges during my days as a litigator, sometimes even bringing a smile from a frown at the thought of something so unexpected as asparagus during such an exchange,” Gohmert said in an e-mail statement. “It has actually been amusing to see the national and international speculation as to what people think may have been the secret meaning.”

Shannon’s tweet here is interesting because it can be read as indicating that @auditthemedia (aka criminal revenge porn extortionist Craig Brittain) is a part of Chuck’s Got News operation. It also helps explain why Chuck hasn’t published any of those “dick pics” he promised yesterday. If Brittain is involved and Chuck did publish the pics he wouldn’t just run up against California’s anti revenge porn law, it would be a direct violation of Brittain’s consent decree with the Federal Trade Commission.

45 Nyet  May 14, 2015 11:04:44am

From John Fuller’s “Wallace Stevens at the Clavier” (which predates Gohmert):

To cast aspersions on asparagus
Becomes the mental amorist’s lament.
And other table manners: offering
The tilted pinot to an untouched glass
Or violence to an alligator pear,
Tossing a napkin like a sheet aside,
Leaving the table as he leaves a bed
With little done and everything unsaid.

What’s funny is that he’s constantly blurring whatever legal distinction might exist to protect him in any hypothetical libel action with his use of his personal Twitter account. He’s engaged in libel “per se” before using that account, for which no actual malice needs to be proven in civil court.

OK, he did indeed use the phrase deliberately:

Gohmert has used the phrase at least once before. During a House Judiciary Committee discussion in July 2007 over business law, he said, “I’ve had aspersions cast on our asparagus in East Texas.” And on Wednesday, he told TheBlaze. com that the phrase was often used by a Texas lawyer decades ago.

If he ever does sue me, I really look forward to having him explain in court why he looked up my old street address, went there, then took pictures of himself standing in front and posted them on Twitter. Or why he accused me of having AIDS, and said the medication was affecting my brain. Or why he said he had documents that showed I had spent time in a mental institution.

Just for starters. The fact is, though, that no reputable attorney will take a case like that anyway, because of California’s anti-SLAPP statutes.

IMO, the common Christian doctrine that all non-believers are going to go to hell for eternal torment is thoroughly disgusting and hateful. Well, this isn’t particularly surprising. The engineer who was at the controls of the Metro North train that crashed under similar conditions as the Amtrak crash this week will not face criminal charges:

Tragic accident.

The MNRR engineer fell asleep at the controls, and there was no backup system to prevent the train from going into the curve above the rated speed. That backup system, PTC, would have prevented both the MNRR crash and the Amtrak crash by automatically reducing the speed to the limit on the segment.

If I ruled the world, these incidents would not be termed accidental. They would be called careless, idiotic, avoidable, unacceptable incidents. And the gun-shooter would be held personally responsible for the medical treatment of everyone harmed by the fucking bullets.

Allen West was a victim of Sharia Law in Wal-Mart!!!!!^*%#@!#^!^&@%!@!!!!!!

mediamatters.org

There was a young man doing the checkout and another Walmart employee came over and put up a sign, “No alcohol products in this lane.” So being the inquisitive fella I am, I used my additional set of eyes — glasses — to see the young checkout man’s name. Let me just say it was NOT “Steve.”

I pointed the sign out to Aubrey and her response was a simple question, how is it that this Muslim employee could refuse service to customers based on his religious beliefs, but Christians are being forced to participate in specific events contrary to their religious beliefs?

Boy howdy, that is one astute young lady.

Imagine that, this employee at Walmart refused to just scan a bottle or container of an alcoholic beverage — and that is acceptable. A Christian business owner declines to participate or provide service to a specific event — a gay wedding — which contradicts their faith, and the State crushes them.

He got all that from the law that under-21 employees can’t sell smokes or booze. lol

He added that while “Democrats joined with big business in vilifying an effort to protect our religious liberty,” too many Republican leaders and presidential candidates “ran and hid in the hills.”

“We’re a nation that was founded by men and women who were fleeing religious oppression and coming to seek out a land where everyone of us could worship God Almighty with all of our hearts, minds and souls, and that is under profound jeopardy today,” Cruz said.

CA judge rules that abstinence only sex education is not actually education.

The decision by Fresno County Superior Court Judge Donald Black applies only to the 40,000-student Clovis Unified School District. But as the first ruling to interpret California’s 11-year-old law on sex education and disease prevention, it should put schools on notice that “young people need complete, accurate health information required by law,”

“This is the first time that abstinence-only-until-marriage curricula have been found to be medically inaccurate,” Burlingame said Monday.
The state law requires school districts to make their sex-education programs “age-appropriate” and directs them to teach students, starting in the seventh grade, that abstinence from sex is the only sure way to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. But it also requires districts to provide “medically accurate information” on other methods, including all contraceptives approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

The Puritan’s problem wasn’t with religious oppression. Their problem was that they weren’t doing the oppressing.

I think it had more to do with taxes and what they perceived as economic repression —religion was part-and-parcel with that. They didn’t want to have to participate financially in the Church of England —which, IIRC was required at the time.

If you don’t sin, you don’t repent.
If you don’t repent, you don’t go to heaven.
Therefore…

Well, the catch is that everyone is presumed sinful and that only Jesus was able to be human without sin (I am going nowhere near the immaculate conception though…). Hence since you sin simply by living, everyone needs to repent.

That, at least, is the theory according to some.

“We may be surprised at the people we find in heaven. God has a soft spot for sinners. His standards are quite low.”
