Stupidest Man on the Internet Starts the Week With a Huge Lie About Benghazi

Just a flat out lie from start to finish
Wingnuts • Views: 37,743

DERPOn this fine Monday morning, Jim Hoft, fabled Dumbest Man on the Internet (also known as the Stupidest Man on the Internet, or SMOTI), decided it was time to circulate a huge, blatant lie about Benghazi, with a screaming headline about a BREAKING REPORT SMOKING GUN! at Fox News that is completely false:

BREAKING REPORT=> SMOKING GUN! US Was Running Weapons Thru Benghazi to Syria | the Gateway Pundit

It’s a flat out lie, folks. The Fox News report is one of their usual nothing-burgers, trying to pump up yet another Benghazi story that contains nothing new or interesting, but it absolutely does not make the claim that the US was running weapons to Syria. Here’s how Dim Jim describes it in his typical semi-literate style:

FOX News confirmed today that the US ran guns from Benghazi to Syria before the attack on the US consulate on September 11, 2012.

The US Ambassador to Libya and three others were killed in the terrorist attack.

The Obama administration was running weapons to Syria.

FOX News reported Monday that the US was sending guns to Banias and Borj Islam, Syria before the Benghazi terrorist attack.

US Intelligence agencies were fully aware that weapons were moving from the terrorist stronghold in Libya to Syria before the attack that killed four Americans…
September 16, 2012 DIA Memo copied to the National Security Council, CIA, and others concluded the Benghazi terrorist attack was planned at least ten or more days in advance…

The memo also tied the attack to 9-11… No discussion of a demonstration or anti-Mohammad video.

US officials were aware that weapons were being shipped to Syria by the Port of Benghazi.

The US was in fact running guns from Benghazi to Syria when the annex and consulate were attacked.

Senator Rand Paul questioned Hillary Clinton about this gun running program back in January 2013 during her testimony on the Benghazi terrorist attack.

Hillary Clinton said she did not know about the program while testifying under oath.

[…]

Rand Paul accused the Obama administration in January 2013 of running guns to Syrian rebels.
Rand Paul was right.

No, Jim, Rand Paul was not right, and Hillary Clinton said she didn’t know about “the program” because there was no “program.”

Hoft even quoted the line that debunks his dishonest post:

US officials were aware that weapons were being shipped to Syria by the Port of Benghazi.

That’s what the Fox report says; that US officials were aware that weapons were being shipped from Libya to Syria. It does not say the US was shipping those weapons — and in fact, the report actually quotes a CIA official who specifically says the US was NOT involved in shipping those weapons.

So Fox News didn’t “confirm” this at all; Jim Hoft deliberately misrepresented this report. Please spread the word and retweet this post, to push back against yet another attempted lie by this incredibly dishonest right wing hack.

Here’s the video clip from Fox, so you can see for yourself:

bwahahahaaaa:

Christian evangelist Franklin Graham invited his Facebook followers to pray for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Saturday, saying they should pray that her eyes “would be opened to the truth of Scripture” so that she would vote against marriage equality, Inquisitr reports.

But Ginsburg is Jewish and not likely a follower of his version of scripture.

“Today, let’s focus our prayers on Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who has served on the Court for over two decades,” Graham wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday. “Those who support same-sex marriage consider her an ally in their fight to toss God’s Holy Word aside.”

“As the Supreme Court continues to deliberate over the constitutionality of same-sex marriage,” he continued, “let’s pray that Justice Ginsburg’s eyes would be opened to the truth of Scripture and that she would not be deceived by the arguments of those who seek to impose their ‘new morality’ on our nation.”

US Intelligence agencies were fully aware that weapons were moving from the terrorist stronghold in Libya to Syria before the attack that killed four Americans…

So the US was sending arms from Libya to Syria, which resulted in the attack in Libya? Why not just keep the arms in Libya if we wanted to attack our own consulate?

Does DimJim even think these memes through before posting them?

I grow more and more disenchanted with these “giants” of the internet. How are individuals supposed to protect themselves in this kind of scenario? Her performance in another movie, never released, was spliced into this controversial, anti-Muslim movie and speech grafted onto it.

Google, YouTube win heated legal fight over anti-Muslim video

mercurynews.com

“Weighing into a case fraught with controversy, a federal appeals court on Monday rejected a Hollywood actress’s bid to force Google-owned YouTube to take down an anti-Muslim video that sparked worldwide protests, finding that such an order tramples on free speech rights.

“Reversing a previous ruling, a special 11-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the arguments raised by Cindy Lee Garcia, who pressed her legal fight as a result of death threats she received after she was unwittingly spliced into a 2012 film clip that cast her as disparaging the prophet Mohammed in the “Innocence of Muslims” video. The court backed Google and other Internet companies, with only Judge Alex Kozinski dissenting.

(snip)

“The showdown stems from Garcia’s minor role in a film originally called “Desert Warrior,” for which she was paid $500. The movie never materialized, but Garcia later discovered her scene had instead been used in the anti-Muslim video “Innocence of Muslims,” produced by Mark Basseley Youssef. When released, it sparked protests in the Muslim world and was at one point cited in the debate over the fatal attacks on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya.

“As it turned out, Garcia’s voice was dubbed over with an insult to Mohammed. Her life has not been the same since: She has been inundated with death threats, such as “cindy lee I want to kill you” and “Dear the end is near,” forcing her to live underground, according to court papers.” More

Bill O’Reilly’s ex-wife accused the Fox News anchor of physically assaulting her in front of their daughter.

A source said Maureen McPhilmy, who was recently awarded custody of the couple’s two children, testified during a New York family court hearing that O’Reilly attacked her at their Manhasset home, reported Gawker.

The source said a forensic examiner testified that O’Reilly’s 16-year-old daughter claimed she saw her father drag her mother down a staircase by the neck, unaware the girl was watching.

It’s not clear when the incident took place, but it apparently happened before the couple separated in 2010.

I just read a glowing review for Pixar’s latest, Inside Out. Sounds quite promising; might have to check it out when it’s released here.

Pixar’s early work was heavily influenced by the films of the Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, and the fact that Inside Out’s plot is set in motion by a removal, with a pre-teen girl in the back of her family’s car apprehensively weighing up the fresh start she’s about to make, immediately connects it to Miyazaki’s 2001 masterpiece Spirited Away, which began with an identical set-up.

And it’s far from the only thing they have in common: both films are about the last days of childhood, the point at which our inner lives must be broken and rebuilt if we’re to flourish as adults - and both describe this chaotic, terrifying process by plunging their heroines into fantastical, Jungian wonderlands of fairies, monsters and waking dreams.

Around an hour in, as the film descends into Riley’s subconscious, you realise Inside Out is heading towards a very different ending than the proscribed straightforward happy one Joy has in mind. The bliss of childhood can’t last forever, after all, and as adults our happiest memories of it come ringed with sadness.

This is a humane and heart-wrenchingly beautiful film from Docter; even measured alongside Pixar’s numerous great pictures, it stands out as one of the studio’s very best.

He mentions Up in the review, and I admit, even a cynic like me got a little choked up in the opening of that film.

Dammit. Another crash at Indy.

I understand the driver, Canadian James Hinchcliffe was carted off to the Hospital. There are indications the side of the tub (drivers compartment) was penetrated and he has a broker femur, maybe pelvis.

Car was immediately impounded and moved off track…out the back gate.

Further practice for the race Sunday has been cancelled.

Now this one did not get back up into the air, maybe due to much of the big ass rear of the car taken off in the crash. However, it was leaning to the crashed side and as it slid down the track it got enough air to get almost rolled over.

Keep in mind, this is after they made some changes in the cars yesterday after three other scary crashes.

Rev…these cars are spec cars designed by the track who also runs the sport. They are all the same, and it is the ONLY CAR you can run. Obviously they would never be disqualified.

Only differences in the cars are some of the few body panels they have added this year to go with either a Chevy or Honda engine. The concern is the car that already was questionable is now more dangerous due to those areo body panels and wings.

That looked like something blew around the engine… maybe put oil under the tires? Flash and smoke and then he just went straight.

Now I hear there are concerns the areo is too much for the spec chassis and you are right, speculation is the right rear suspension collapsed. That would burn off the tire, maybe cut some oil lines or something.

This is what happens when you have people that don’t know cars and think they know racing to mandate a chassis design. Then you allow others to build kits that are adding more downforce to the chassis that might have never been able to handle it due to the original spec.

This is what is called screwing the pooch on the whole concept of this car.

Gotta run out for a bit. I’m going to check around some of the race forums and see what the hell they are going to do about this before they kill a driver and run the risk of putting one into the fence and maybe the crowd Sunday.

Freepers really get their hate on:

French Mayor Pushes for New Law to Ban Islam: “We must ban the Muslim faith in France.” (This is a re-post from an utterly batshit teabag source)

A French mayor, Robert Chardon, is calling for governmental legislation that will ban Islam. He said in a recent statement:

We must ban the Muslim faith in France.

He also stated, “It’s the only solution for most of France’s problems,” and, “We also need a Marshall Plan to send Muslims to countries where the religion is practiced.” This man is the mayor of Venelles, a French town with a population of about 8,000 people, and he is more righteous than any of the politicians in Paris. It is amazing how small town people have a better understanding of how to deal with evil than do metropolitan people.

The author, one Theodore Shoebat, goes on to praise the Crusades, among other things.

the US is being Islamized under the current regime as we speak .

The really terrible, and important, part is that these are not the pronouncements of a few crazed internet kooks. I hear this kind of stuff everywhere I go now, especially here in Texas. It is either a majority view or pretty close to it. I don’t think I have seen anything like this in my lifetime, which includes the often bitter response of bigots to the civil rights movement. Even then, the hatred was more muted and more restricted geographically, and open calls for the annihilation of black Americans were few and far between. Not so with the crazed haters of Islam, they openly advocate the literal destruction of American Muslims by deportation, conversion, or even mass murder.

Until 9/11, most Americans were vaguely aware of Islam, or slightly ambivalent towards it. But that total lack of awareness of what Islam is and how it is practiced combined with blatant propagandizing has led to the current spread of Islamophobia.

Federal district court. Here is how they do it for CA

You get a notice that you’re on call for 30 days. You call in every Sunday to get your status, either to call back on Monday or come into the court.

If you call back Monday, they tell you either to call back next Sunday or come in.

Today, they had about 50 of us report in. 30 were randomly selected to be brought in to form a jury, the rest of us, including myself were placed on standby.

At noon, we got the announcement the jury had been selected and we should call in tonight.

Technically, we could be called back in, but the clerk stated they already had a new set of people set to be called in tomorrow. He said they had roughly 2000 people on call for the month, and our group was about half way down the list. For us to be called in again, they would need to work thru the list of people yet to be called, then work back thru the list of selectees who had already been called in and let go before they would work their way back to our group before the end of the month.

So basically, barring some weird series of events suddenly creating dozens of federal court cases in the next 2 weeks, I’m done.

The day after a mass shooting between rival biker gangs in Texas left nine people dead, lawmakers in the state discussed a bill on Monday that would allow licensed gun owners to openly carry their weapons in public.

This term always puzzles me in articles about states like Texas where no license of any kind is required to purchase or own guns. Passing a federal NICS background check is not a license, and a NICS isn’t even required there for non-FFL private party transfers. Basically if this law passes and you have a gun you can carry it in public with impunity unless a cops knows in advance that you’re disqualified by virtue of being a felon, etc. So the whole bit about being a “licensed gun owner” is just total bullshit.

Robert Doggart was arrested last month after FBI officials said the ordained minister tried to recruit “expert Gunners” on social media to help him burn down a mosque, school, and other buildings in Hancock, New York - where law enforcement officials are frequently called to investigate right-wing rumors.

The 63-year-old Doggart was recorded speaking to a South Carolina militia member about the plot, which the failed Tennessee congressional candidate feared could turn deadly.

“If there’s a gun fight, well there’s a gun fight, and I want to come home because I love my family and I want to see my kids again,” Doggart told the militia member. “But I also understand that if it’s necessary to die, then that’s a good way to die.”

Doggart pleaded guilty last week to one count of interstate communication of threats, and he remains free on bond until his sentencing - when he faces up to five years in prison.

Prosecutors said Doggart gathered an M4 rifle, explosives, and light armor piercing bullets in connection with the plot, and investigators said he was recruiting snipers through social media and by telephone.

“When we meet in this state, the people we seek will know who we are,” Doggart told a woman during a recorded phone call. “We will be cruel to them, and we will burn down their buildings. If anyone attempts to harm us in any way, our stand gunner will take them down from 350 yards away.”

“The standoff gunner would be me,” Doggart added.

Doggart told an FBI informant that he believed the plot would succeed because the town employs only four police officers, and the volunteer fire department would take 35 minutes to respond.

206 goddamnedfrank  May 18, 2015 2:12:52pm

re: #202 goddamnedfrank

Strictly speaking we don’t need licenses here in California to purchase or own guns. I do have a “Firearms Safety Certificate” needed to purchase, and all transfers have to go through an FFL and involve a background check, but the only piece of paper I have to prove my guns are truly legally mine are the purchase receipts. Sometimes the store prints out a copy of the DROS form, but not always.

In any event if that paper gets lost I’m still not in violation of any laws if say a cop stops me to / from the range and I tell him I’ve got guns in the car as long as they’re legally stored. The most they can do is write down the serial numbers and see if the guns have been reported stolen, and theoretically the CA DOJ might check to see if they have records of them being legally transferred to me. The practical problem with that is that they only started retaining transfer records of longarm sales this year.

So yeah, the term “licensed gun owner” implies a level of verification that’s simply not available in many states, especially States that keep no records of sales at all, like Texas.

An unintended consequence of this law passing will be a proliferation of NO GUNS signs at business and other establishments which will limit concealed carry as well. When are you going to change the headline to read what was actually uncovered, i.e. that US intelligence was aware that terrorists were sending weapons from Benghazi to Syria.

Getting the story 180 degrees wrong is about as bad as you can get. I can’t stand the State Dept coverup any more than you, but the CIA was not there to send weapons but to monitor terrorists sending weapons.

Frankly I don’t know which is worse. Had we sent our weapons maybe Assad would be gone by now, but instead we just watched terrorists send the weapons to whichever group they wanted to.

But with all the fog of war we need to keep the basic facts straight. Rand Paul was not right, he was dead wrong, if you believe the actual Fox News story. Take the time to listen/read the story you’re promulgating.

It’s the same lie told about the ATF’s Fast and Furious program, that guns were “walked” across the border. In both cases the government was monitoring a black market trade that for different reasons it was incapable of preventing outright.

RUBIO: It was NOT a mistake, given the fact what the president knew at the time …

I like how the Republicans just forget how much of the evidence for an ongoing WMD program in Iraq was simply faked. The aluminum tube bullshit was pushed even though the CIA told the administration they simply weren’t conducive for use in centrifuges, Ambassador Wilson’s report on the phantom yellowcake form Niger that was simply ignored, the Curveball source that everyone in the know understood was a serial liar.

The only thing Bush “knew” at the time was that he was going to invade Iraq by hook or by crook.

241 Charles Johnson  May 18, 2015 4:04:30pm

Wingnuts are spewing hate at Samantha Power, and I discovered this tweet from one of Chuck’s friends he retweets often:

REALLY? “41% of rape accusations are faked?”

Not really. This is the page he’s linking to: False Rape Allegations. - PubMed - NCBI.

And here’s what it really says:

With the cooperation of the police agency of a small metropolitan community, 45 consecutive, disposed, false rape allegations covering a 9 year period were studied. These false rape allegations constitute 41% the total forcible rape cases (n = 109) reported during this period. These false allegations appear to serve three major functions for the complainants: providing an alibi, seeking revenge, and obtaining sympathy and attention. False rape allegations are not the consequence of a gender-linked aberration, as frequently claimed, but reflect impulsive and desperate efforts to cope with personal and social stress situations.

So the “41%” figure applies ONLY to the rapes reported in this one “small metropolitan community,” and the study says nothing at all about false rape reports in general.

These people are sick. I can’t tell if he’s deliberately distorting this or if he’s too stupid to understand what he’s reading.

The decision had already been made, the excuse just had to be ginned up. Hence the sudden reclassification of chemical weapons as WMDs, something that should have been laughed right out of the UN.

At the risk of tiresomely repeating myself, when Rubio says this:

RUBIO: No, it was not the same question. The question was whether it was a mistake, and my answer was, it’s not a mistake. I still say it was not a mistake, because the president was presented with intelligence that said Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, it was governed by a man who had committed atrocities in the past with weapons of mass destruction.

That is just a fucking lie, in 2002 and today. Chemical weapons were never “weapons of mass destruction” until the dishonest lying campaign to get us into a war with Iraq, and they still aren’t.

245 Charles Johnson  May 18, 2015 4:06:43pm

Here’s another study that did actually try to determine the overall prevalence of false rape reports, and it came up with … between 2% and 10%, a much lower and more believable figure.

False Allegations of Sexual Assault: An Analysis of Ten Years of Reported Cases. - PubMed - NCBI

One of the most controversial disputes affecting the discourse related to violence against women is the dispute about the frequency of false allegations of sexual assault. In an effort to add clarity to the discourse, published research on false allegations is critiqued, and the results of a new study described. All cases (N = 136) of sexual assault reported to a major Northeastern university over a 10-year period are analyzed to determine the percentage of false allegations. Of the 136 cases of sexual assault reported over the 10-year period, 8 (5.9%) are coded as false allegations. These results, taken in the context of an examination of previous research, indicate that the prevalence of false allegations is between 2% and 10%.

It still means that 60% of rape allegations, even in a tiny locale, are legitimate. Not exactly a glowing stat in support of his argument.

And what percentage of real rapes are actually reported, because of the ridiculous hurdles and victim-blaming these parasites support? As much as 10% ?

(Should that be “many”?)

Meh, they’re really fucking nasty and the subject of an international convention barring their use. A better argument is that Bush was targeting Saddam for uses that were sanctioned by the Reagan administration. Reagan’s team provided Saddam’s military with satellite imagery on Iran’s troop movements, essentially telling him where to target those weapons. Reagan’s administration also ran interference in the UN, shielding Iraq from any Resolution condemning and punishing them for their use of chemical weapons.
