Jeb Bush Has the Gall to Accuse Climate Scientists of “Intellectual Arrogance”

The “soft denialism” of Jeb Bush

Jeb Bush shows the disturbingly awful attitude of the GOP towards the most serious problem the human race has ever faced; in his latest statement on climate change he has the absolute gall to accuse the climate science community of “intellectual arrogance.”

As he has before, Bush acknowledged “the climate is changing” but stressed that it’s unknown why. “I don’t think the science is clear of what percentage is man-made and what percentage is natural. It’s convoluted,” he said at a house party in Bedford, New Hampshire.

“For the people to say the science is decided on this is really arrogant, to be honest with you,” he continued. “It’s this intellectual arrogance that now you can’t have a conversation about it, even. The climate is changing. We need to adapt to that reality.”

The persecution complex is in full view here, because nobody’s stopping Jeb Bush from “having a conversation” about climate change at all. Here he is on CNN, in front of millions of people, complaining he’s not being allowed to speak. Please. His line about “intellectual arrogance” is obviously carefully designed to pander to the anti-science Republican base, who don’t trust science or scientists.

But Bush’s “soft denialism” is even more insidious than outright denialism. He’s trying to sound more reasonable than most of his colleagues, but in fact his idea of policy leads to the same place: doing nothing.
