If the Freepers are any indication, this won’t be seen as vindication by wingnuts, it’ll be seen as further proof that the system is “railroading” these cops. Already I’m hearing about how it “rubber stamped” these indictments for her, questions about the racial make-up of it, and (of course) continued assertions that the charges will be thrown out at trial and the cops exonerated.

Off to our annual Habitat dinner. We’re celebrating 25 years and 125 houses. That’s not the real answer to poverty, racism, and community disintegration. But it helps.

Depends on the jury. Hopefully the trial won’t be moved to a white-flight suburb (like Simi Valley).

re: #1 Kid A

I think at trial, when all the evidence is presented, it will be pretty clear that those cops acted outside of their authority of care of a prisoner and caused his death. I’m pretty miffed that the Lt, Brian Rice, was not charged with something more serious, though, since he was the direct supervisor. Of course, there will probably be some kind of plea dealing, so I don’t expect any of them to get more than 10 yrs, less if they plead guilty. At least, that’s what I’m hoping.

re: #7 Charles Johnson

Indeed, the old snark about a “ham sandwich” ignores the reality that a DA has to want the ham sandwich indicted in order it to happen. We already saw in the Brown, Garner, and Crawford cases that a prosecutor who doesn’t want to see cops indicted can manipulate the system to that end. That Mrs. Mosby wants to see this go to trial, even if one accuses her of doing so for the wrong reasons, is a change. We need more DAs in this country who are willing to take the risk of damaging their relationship with the police in order to see justice done.

Which is why I suspect right now the FOP attorneys for these folks will be hammering out motion after motion, topped by a call for a change of venue. Gotta get this moved out to the burbs, where the white folks are plentiful, because if they leave it in Baltimore than the cops can’t get a “fair” trial.

blacks will be surprised that there are 3 of 6 blacks indicted. If the blacks get prosecuted, blacks will probably riot because of that too. racist judicial system!!! Ima get me some free TP at the local CVS!

=====

Prediction: 3 will be convicted and sentenced heavily and 3 will go free.

You guess which 3 are which…

=====

Lemme guess… the 3 who “cannot be racist because they’re not white” and because, “white privilege”..

=====

You are exactly right. When interviewed, some of the protesters were, in fact, taken aback by the fact that three of the officers were black. Some tried to explain it away.

=====

You can indict a ham sandwich. That doesn’t mean it’s guilty. What this tactic by the left is is to destroy any good record these police had AS A WARNING to other cops to back off doing their jobs….especially with blacks.

A lot of modern racists simply refuse to acknowledge how institutional racism influences the way many black people view themselves / other blacks. Then these same modern apologists will turn around and ask about the black on black rate of violence and victimization with a straight face. The problem is rooted in self deception and denial, many modern racists honestly don’t think of themselves as racist. They’re either so deeply ignorant / avoidant of what their attitudes say about themselves, or they cynically wrap it all up in the smarmy notion of being “realists.” They’re so invested in their own place within society that have to reject any suggestion that racism is largely rooted in a greater sociological pathology.

Josh Duggar can rot in hell. The Duggar family put a lot of money into taking away GLBT rights in Fayetteville AK.

Voters in Fayetteville, Ark., repealed a nondiscrimination ordinance Tuesday, less than four months after the City Council overwhelmingly approved the law that protected LGBT and other residents from discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations.

Josh Duggar, the oldest of the titular offspring, joined the staff of certified anti-LGBT hate group the Family Research Council’s legislative arm, FRC Action, last summer. After results from the Fayetteville special election arrived, Duggar tweeted a message that is, presumably, free of any intentional irony, though LGBT residents of Fayetteville might disagree:

And then there’s this little 11-year-old boy charged with felony assault (Guess he didn’t love Jeebus as much as the Duggars)

During what was a difficult day for him, he kicked a trashcan at his middle school. A school resource officer saw him and filed a disorderly conduct charge in juvenile court against the then 11-year-old boy.

Two weeks later, Kayleb was told to wait while other kids left class but disobeyed. When the same officer grabbed Kayleb to bring him to the principal’s office, Kayleb says he tried to push away but the officer “slammed me down and then handcuffed me.” The officer then charged him with felony assault against a police officer and another charge of disorderly conduct.

Those are the infamous Pancake mushrooms. They are perfectly fine to eat when they look like a pancake (particularly delicious when they are the silver dollar size), but the ones that have gone wonky are deadly.

re: #58 BeachDem

Being white and “Christian” in this country means you are instantly absolved of near everything under the idea of ‘childhood indiscretions’ and ‘praying for god’s guidance’. Meanwhile, you can be brown and killed by police, without provocation, and people will continue to invent reasons not only why you deserved to die, but why your very existence victimized your killers.

This country is incurably racist to its fucking core, among so many other things. The Duggars are already branded as “good people”, they could mass kill the population of a small store and people would still manage to make excuses for them because they’re ‘good people’ (read: the right kind of “people”). It’s the other end of the Calvinistic impetus in America: people like the Duggars can almost never be seen as doing “bad” because they are “good people”, therefore anything they do cannot be “bad”.

This is the problem of all Male dominated religions. Females are property. I don’t give a damn if it’s the United States or the UAE. Females are property. I don’t care if it’s Christian, Jewish or Muslim. Females are property to be used and and disposed of at the male whims. THIS MUST END! NOW!

I read about this kid’s case before. Heartbreaking.

I’ve been off work for the last two days due to depression symptoms. The news today is just wrecking me. I need to mow the grass (like, a couple days ago) but it’s been impossible to get myself out of the house.

I do have a shrink. I see him every tuesday. I’m in the FMLA program at work so I won’t get fired for the time off. Long term depression is a bitch.

I just got over a 3 year long stint where doing anything looked overwhelming. Forcing myself to relate to people around me and to work was a daily thing.

Take care and remember it does eventually reduce to the point where you can function.

And the money quote from Joshie?

(But enough about me. How do you feel about how this affected me?)

Exercise is a good thing. Even a 15 min brisk walk will help tremendously.

Take it from someone who’s been there.

I was not familiar with this site, but this is laugh out loud funny. A scene by scene description of FRC “Stand for Marriage” video.

Synopsis: The leader of the socially conservative Family Research Council interrupts his rigorous study of self-righteousness to urge his fellow Adam-and-Evers to oppose legalization of gay marriage before U.S. Christians are rounded up by despotic homosexuals and forced to swear allegiance to Satan.

My favorite scene:

Synopsis: After getting the green light from Jesus, cerebral religious conservative hero Dr. Ben Carson shows off his celebrated intellect by starting a presidential campaign given virtually no chance of success with a ponderous, meandering ad in which he barely appears and fails to articulate any coherent rationale for his absurd candidacy.

A Grand Jury indictment means leave it up to a jury. That should be the default for any questionable case. For a Grand Jury to not indict is equivalent to an innocent verdict in an actual trial.

If no charges are filed the result is the same as an innocent verdict.

Not exactly.

In the sense that the suspect is not going to prison, sure.

In the sense that charges could not be brought again with new evidence, no.

Also the influence of the prosecutor is much, much greater on whether charges are brought versus whether a jury returns a guilty verdict.
