Family Values, Duggar Style: Jim Bob Duggar Didn’t Report Son Josh’s Alleged Sex Offenses for More Than a Year

The executive director of the Family Research Council’s political wing is a molester
Wingnuts • Views: 34,903

Entertainment journal In Touch has the latest horrible news about the scandal breaking for the far right ultra-Christian incredibly fertile Duggar family: Bombshell Duggar Police Report: Jim Bob Duggar Didn’t Report Son Josh’s Alleged Sex Offenses for More Than a Year.

Josh DuggarJim Bob Duggar waited more than a year after his son, Josh, confessed to sexually molesting several female minors before contacting police, In Touch Magazine is reporting exclusively, based on information contained in the official police report.

What’s more, Jim Bob informed the elders of his church about Joshua’s actions and they waited three months before contacting authorities. The explosive new information is contained in a Springdale, Ark., police report obtained by In Touch magazine.

The report has been hidden since 2006 and was just obtained by the mag through a Freedom of information Act request. Jim Bob also refused to allow police to interview Josh when they opened a felony investigation in 2006. The Duggars star on TLC’s hit show 19 Kids and Counting.

In Touch magazine first broke the news of the Duggars’ underage sexual molestation scandal in this week’s magazine. (Note: Josh’s name is redacted from the police report but In Touch has confirmed the passages that refer to him.)

Other bombshells in the police report are: Josh Duggar was investigated for multiple sex offenses — including forcible fondling — against five minors. Some of the alleged offenses investigated were felonies. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar were interviewed by the Springdale Police department on Dec. 12, 2006. The report says that James told police he was alerted in March, 2002 by a female minor that Josh — who turned 14-years-old that month — had been touching her breasts and genitals while she slept. This allegedly happened on multiple occasions. In 2006, Jim Bob told police that in July, 2002 Josh admitted to fondling a minor’s breasts while she slept. “James said that they disciplined (redacted, Josh) after this incident.” The family did not alert authorities.

Josh Duggar has now reportedly resigned from the Family Research Council, where he specialized in making statements like this: Flashback: Duggars Call LGBT People a Threat to Child Safety.

SoundCloud

Duggar’s group, the Family Research Council, regularly paints the LGBT community as a precarious threat to children, and he and his family have participated in that rhetoric.

Last December, Duggar led a successful campaign to defeat a LGBT nondiscrimination measure in Fayetteville, Arkansas, which he said jeopardized the safety of children during an interview on the FRC radio program “Washington Watch.”

Disgusting people.

Love all that wholesomeness.
IIRC their older children supervised their younger children. What could possibly go wrong?

3 Rocky-in-Connecticut  May 21, 2015 5:25:01pm

I bet most supporters of this vile organization still consider Obama and “those damn LIberals” more of a personal threat to their children than this cretin.

Ass-wipes all.

4 Targetpractice  May 21, 2015 5:28:51pm

Anyone with a brain and a sense of morality would see this as another reason to despise the Duggars. But we can be sure wingnuts will be quick to depict the family, if not Josh himself, as “victims” of the “liberal media.”

5 Justanotherhuman  May 21, 2015 5:29:04pm

“The Duggars chose to wait before having children and used birth control pills in the early years of their marriage. Their eldest child, Josh, was born in 1988. They resumed using oral contraceptives after Josh’s birth but conceived again despite this precaution. Michelle miscarried that pregnancy. Michelle has mentioned that they named that child Caleb, despite not knowing the baby’s sex for certain.[7] The Duggars believed the miscarriage was due to their use of contraceptives, and decided to stop using birth control. They decided to “allow God to determine the number of children they would have.”[8]

There were 5 younger girls by 2002, one had a fraternal twin brother. The youngest would have been 5 in 2002. The twin would have been 12, one 11, one 10, one 9. Then there was a spate of boys.

Incidentally the article makes it sound like the Family Research Council is a Duggar family organization. Actually it is James Dobson’s creation, though I’m not sure how involved he still is. Tony Perkins runs it now, I think.

Do they put the family first, or god (whichever they worship)? Do they do any research or just read the Bible and interpret it to fit their preconceptions?

10 allegro  May 21, 2015 5:32:38pm

I’m not a parent so I wouldn’t be comfortable demonizing the parents for trying to protect their son from law enforcement and trying other ways to deal with his disturbing behavior. That said, he sure wouldn’t ever be alone with my other children ever again.

Yes, Perkins runs it, but Josh Duggar was the head of their “political wing,” until today.

Once again, the moral (hah!) religious right has been to shown as nothing more than a sham. As I said down stairs, watch Teddy and the rest of them run away from the Duggars and the quiver full movement as fast as they can.

Covering up molestation. Molesting family members.

Real family values there. And they have the gall to judge others when they’re busy engaging in this kind of criminality.

Josh deserves to see the inside of a jail. So too do his parents for covering up a crime (and conspiracy to cover up, among others). They engaged in obstruction of justice and deserve to see prison as well.

This just really irks me to no end.

I’m guessing the paterfamilias views all the children as his property, so meting out justice for anything within the family is his prerogative.

Since we’re talking about the Family Research Council, let me repeat this from the last thread—a scene by scene breakdown—it is hilarious.

FRC “Stand for Marriage”

Synopsis: The leader of the socially conservative Family Research Council interrupts his rigorous study of self-righteousness to urge his fellow Adam-and-Evers to oppose legalization of gay marriage before U.S. Christians are rounded up by despotic homosexuals and forced to swear allegiance to Satan.

That’s what keeps getting into my head. Are these kids taught anything about normal sexuality? Yeah, Mom is popping a kid out every year but are they left completely on their own to deal with their changing bodies and desires? It seems so and thus fertile ground for this kind of sick attitude and behavior.

So, has TLC decided to close up shop on the endless parade of lifeless packaging that they claim to be reality tv, but is nothing of the sort? No? Seems like they keep running these shows out there.

It’s cheap programming filler and has attracted a following for whatever reason - because some people just can’t help watch train wrecks, or think that this is funny or insightful or that there’s nothing better on tv. I just don’t know.

But one has to wonder just what the network knew and when they knew it, if all this was going on. You’d think they’d do their due diligence, especially with other issues with reality tv shows and all manner of criminality or improper behavior. There was another couple of shows of recent vintage that also ended over sexual molestation: that show with Honey Boo Boo and Sons of Guns.

This isn’t going to end well, and I feel for the young girls who had to suffer from all of this abuse and likely told by their family that this was acceptable or appropriate behavior. Their parents abandoned them to a sexual predator who was their own brother. Their parents shielded their son over doing what was right.

And then spent how many months and years proclaiming that they were good, righteous, and godly for all of their actions? This isn’t just hypocrisy on parade, but a total abdication of responsibility and showing the rank misogyny at play within the Duggars and their backers.

This is what happens when you raise your kids in a fanatical religious environment where they’re not even allowed to hold hands before they’re engaged or kiss anyone before they get married.

No wonder this kid ended up molesting his own sisters. He was completely twisted from the get go in the freak belief system his parents foisted on him.

The Duggar kids are not allowed to hold hands with the opposite sex until they are engaged. They can’t give someone a frontal hug until they are married. They can’t kiss until they are married. They have to have chaperones the entire time they’re courting, have to carbon copy their parents all of their text messages until they are engaged, etc.

NO ONE grows up in that kind of severely repressed environment and comes out normal. Their parents foisted beliefs on them that denied even the most basic human affection and basic human contact to these kids before marriage. They’ve been brainwashed since birth in some freak religious movement where their only purpose in life is to breed as much as possible for Jesus. It’s insane when you think about it.

I have nothing against being religious, but when even the most innocent touch is forbidden, is anyone surprised that something like this would happen?

The usual refrain about “It’s not the crime, it’s the cover-up” sorta falls flat here, because both are equally appalling. When your first instinct in dealing with your son molesting any child, let alone your own daughters, is to act as if it’s a minor error in judgment, then you’ve lost any sense of what right and wrong is. Any other father would probably have seriously considered castrating their son after learning such, but I can’t help but figure the Duggar patriarch saw all this through the lens of his fucked-up religious beliefs and decided there must be some devilry at work.

re: #80 Lidane

This is something I’ve been harping on for a while. I’ve mentioned before that the fundamentalists I’m acquainted with often turn out to have the most surprising (and disturbing) fetishes; the prevalence of child porn among fundamentalists is no coincidence. Then, of course, in order to maintain the “holy and righteous” image, the coverups become incredibly convoluted as the participants strive to rationalize their lies. In my mind, the church is doing a piss-poor job with its “abstinence only” and “all things sexual are wrong until marriage” lines; while I may agree with the ideas in principle, there also needs to be education on proper sexual outlets and how to handle sexual urges, including seeking help for improper things like pedophilia. If the church is going to make it its business to meddle in bedroom affairs, they damn well better have more to offer than “DON’T DO IT.” I’ve said before, churches need to start offering sexual education for their youth groups and young adult groups.

I understand that a molestation in the family can be a sensitive issue. I hope the victims were cared for (Extremely doubtful given the family) and I hope Josh actually did receive treatment and counseling for what he did.

The fact that he and his family have gone forward from this, claiming that they are good Christians while claiming LGBT people are all sexual predators renders them lower than fucking pond scums and I hope it destroys them.

I’m just going to lay it all out on the line: I’m a Christian and I don’t want to be perceived as “holier than thou.” I’m a fucking sinner and I admit it. I don’t have a problem with that and neither should anyone else. To sit idly by for YEARS and to cover up shit like this is pointless, it is dangerous, it is disgusting and it is WRONG. Fess up, seek help, and people will respect you; cover up, hide, and people will despise you. Christians in general, and American Christians in particular, have a real problem with selective reading of the Bible; it says right in there to “confess your sins to each other and pray for each other.”

What I read says he was confronted at 17? It was multiple girls. Some were his sisters, others were not. The number I’m hearing was 5 girls, don’t quote me on that.

Sorry, but the counseling he seems to have received was from church elders. “The church” doesn’t have a great record when it comes to reporting or handling sexual abuse of children.

Familial molestation is more common than people know, yes, but really hate the need to try to wrap in the same vein as say marital problems or couples counseling type issues. Child molestation should not just be treated as a let’s keep it in the family type counseling.

I know from personal family experience that keeping it within leads to terror for the victim.

GOP lawmakers vote to remove Scott Walker from jobs agency board

In an attempt to put more oversight on the state’s fledgling job-creation agency, Republican legislators voted to remove Gov. Scott Walker as chairman of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

Walker and his fellow Republicans in the Legislature in 2011 dissolved the state Commerce Department and created the economic development corporation in an attempt to make a more nimble agency. But WEDC has been plagued by lax oversight, including the disclosure this week that in September 2011 it gave an unsecured $500,000 loan to Building Committee Inc. of Milwaukee.

The company’s owner, William Minahan, had been taken to court on Nov. 1, 2010 for $15,700 in delinquent taxes — the same day that Minahan gave Walker’s campaign a $10,000 donation, according to campaign finance records.

Walker’s flagship job laser, or something.

If state lawmakers and then federal officials agree, the state could charge the lowest-income BadgerCare Plus recipients basic premiums as well as higher charges for undisclosed risky behaviors that might range from smoking to obesity.

The GOP-controlled finance committee began its work at 4 p.m., six hours late, and was debating into the night. It is planning to wrap up its work next week so the Legislature can vote on the budget in June, just as Walker prepares to launch a likely presidential bid.

Someone who knew what had happened had written a letter and stuck it in a book, which was loaned out to a church member.

When they were set to appear on Oprah in 2006, someone emailed a copy of this letter to the producers of Oprah, who called CPS and got them involved.

That is why the police finally found out. Because someone told the Oprah producers.

I mean what age does the defense? Does it depend on the age of the victims?

For good information’s sake here goes:

Josh Duggar talked to police when he was 17 about molesting five different girls (some his sisters, all younger than Josh) when he was 14. The reports say some of the violations were felonies. Charges were never filed. The statute of limitations in Arkansas for those crimes when Josh was 14 is three years (which has been extended as I write this, not sure how long it is now, though longer than three years) so no criminal case will be pursued with the allegations we’re all talking about tonight.

yep. that’s what I understand it. FELONIES, so not just flashing his junk then.

And the sisters at the time he was 14 were aged 4-12. So again I ask is their an age of the victims that the “sexual discovery” defenders WON’T defend?

That’s the problem with the internet entirely. As social creatures, we look for cues in everything from the tone of one’s voice to body language to facial expressions to understand whether a person is actually preaching something they believe or just explaining some very screwed up shit. The Internet already robs us of most of that, and then Twitter piles on with limiting the size of an individual tweet, leaving us trying to figure out if a person is really preaching or just explaining.

Anyone else old enough to remember when conservatives were outraged at “moral relativism”? Now their game is to find someone on the opposite side who did something vaguely similar and use that to avoid condemning their own.

I still remember when they were big on “personal responsibility,” whereas now they seem to be all about finding a way to blame others for their actions or excuse them as being totally out of their control.

193 Blind Frog Belly White  May 21, 2015 8:34:33pm

Honestly, I don’t blame the father for covering it up. That’s what parents do - you don’t see your own children as criminals or perverts, and you don’t want a ‘youthful indiscretion’ to label them as a Sexual Predator for the rest of their lives.

HOWEVER, the ‘stern talking to’ by the sheriff over what were apparently felonies, because the family are ‘Good Christians and upstanding members of the community’ is the very soul of White Privilege.

AND I blame the father for raising his children in such a fucked up, depraved, repressive environment. They work very hard to make their kids into fucked up, repressed, sex-obsessed, twisted freaks. AND I blame him for being so fucking irresponsible that he placed a puberty-addled child in a position of authority over women he was told should be submissive.

While Conservatives do have principles, they are fooling themselves about what they are. Most of them are various excuses for maintaining the privileges of the privileged.

That and hating Liberals.

Your Twitter experience is entirely up to you. Just ask klys.

It’s all about curating your feed properly and controlling your shit when you see stupid shit.

Yeah, that’s crude advice. But as you’ve discovered Varek Raith, Twitter is a crude place.

This would be why I am the world’s biggest fan of sarc tags, and wish they would expand beyond LGF.

I know some folks (even here) think they serve no purpose but seriously. They do.

Dive Club meeting tonight, and it was a cookout for Memorial day. Brats, burgers, somebody did a smoked pork shoulder pulled pork, a pot of beef tips braised in BBQ sauce, and one lonely plate of raw veggies and dip sitting all alone on the corner of the table.

Good food, good times, lots of laughs.

Sarcasm is all about how well you know your audience. That’s what’s so fucking cool about sarcasm, you know who gets it and who doesn’t right away.

Well, who you want as an audience can get quite blurred. You say a lot of things, next thing you know some people are saying “Yeah, man!” and some people are calling you an asshole. I’ve seen it in my own interactions, in every town I’ve lived in. There’s been a number of moments where I was being sarcastic around friends and someone comes up to me and says “Are you serious? What the FUCK, yo?” Maybe I took it too far, maybe not, but I’m still in the position to have to explain what I said, always uncomfortable.

So I use sarc tags every now and again here at LGF, ‘cause I don’t know, man.

See, that’s the thing.

When you’re with a group of people you know, and you say something, there’s no need for sarc tags. They know you. They know what you mean. It’s all cool.

But in most cases, the Internet is an inherently public place. And so you don’t get to control your audience, and you don’t get to set it to be “only people who know you well enough to get your sarcasm.” So there is a benefit to avoiding misunderstandings and not being dogpiled on because someone didn’t get the joke, whether it is Twitter or your grandmother on Facebook.

(Seriously, Grandma, I KNOW MY MOTHER DIDN’T KICK ME OUT, IT WAS A JOKE.)

I’d suggest that it’s not ‘knowing your audience’, it’s your audience knowing YOU. (Sounds like Jacov Smirnov - “Een Soviet Russia, Audience know YOU!”)

I’ve been on here long enough that I feel confident that most everyone would know if I posted something sarcastically without sarc tags. Same with family on FB.
