Mike Huckabee Stands By Josh Duggar

Says those who have brought this forward have revealed their own “insensitive bloodthirst”
Wingnuts • Views: 32,806

Huckabee praised the Duggar family, who took over a year to bring the matter to law enforcement, saying that they “dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities.”

He adds that Josh is a good person who “confessed his sins to those he harmed [and] sought help,” despite the fact that, according to reports, Josh did not receive counseling and was only sent to live with a family friend who worked in the home remodeling business.

The former Arkansas governor saved his anger for the people who have cited the case to point out the disingenuousness of the reality TV stars and the conservative political activists who hold them up as a paragon of moral virtue, or as Josh referred to his family, “the epitome of conservative values.” They also have a record of depicting LGBT people as threats to children.

We must remember our Moral Overlords like Huckabee, Duggar, et al are above the rest of us in their Godly Duty™ and ability to have God talk directly to them and tell them things, and any criminal activity that they are guilty of are really just minor forgivable failings. And these minor infractions are dealt with “internally” in a just, sane, and in a manner above reproach.

We must remember this truth in the same way Fox News delivers our news, the same way Republicans present their version of US History and the Founding Fathers, and the same way Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush, and the rest of the cabal inform us of what is and what is not “real” Science.

I think it is very important to know what Kevin D. Williamson of NRO thinks about Duggar.

@KevinNR

So far, I haven’t seen anything.

I mean, he could do a whole series of articles, like he did with Lena Dunham; calling her a child molester when as a curious 7 year old she touched her baby sister’s vagina…that occurred only once that I am aware of, not multiple episodes of touchy feely. OK granted she is weird, but sexual molestation from a 7 year old because of a one time thing? That is a bit of a stretch.

Hey, it was even a cover story for National Review magazine.

nationalreview.com

I am sure Josh Duggar will get the same treatment, right?

God, what horseshit. They didn’t “deal” with it, they buried it. The “counseling” seems to have consisted of shipping Josh off to work as cheap labor for a family friend while there’s no telling what sort of “treatment” the victims received. And then, when it seemed that didn’t work, they had him sit down with a cop who was a friend of the family patriarch to have a “talk.” And the only reason there’s even an official report is because, despite their best efforts to bury this story, somebody let the Oprah crew know and they’re the ones who called the authorities.

Maybe they’ve made enough through the program, but I suspect they have developed a taste for an expensive lifestyle, which only gets more expensive with more kids. Will wingnut welfare be enough? Will the uber-fecund lifestyle pale on the younger generation without freely flowing cash to support it?

re: #9 blueraven

The real problem, in my opinion, is how Jim Bob and his cohorts handled the situation, when it happened, and later. And then of course the hypocrisy too, but that always existed and extends across the entire set of themes of the religious rights.

I doubt NRO’s Kevin W. will write anything. Perhaps he might surprise us, but if NRO runs anything it will be to spin this as some sort of hypocrisy on the part of the evil libruls.

Even though the Duggars are just the last in a long list of revealed problems (remember Bill Gothard?) from today’s religious right cults, outlets like NRO are very selective in their expose of the religious quacks. There are some secular right wingers who do pen an article here and there lamenting old time religion, but they are few, because the pew pays the pulpit.

Among its many other problems, the quiver-full movement is a pyramid scheme.

The original pair do ok - they will have children and grandchildren to take care of them, no matter how expensive the original cost to raise the brood, those costs can be seen as capital expenses for long lasting (baby making) equipment.

The second generation will find it harder because now they will have to compete with each other for the family resources, but they will do ok if they too have lots of kids.

The third generation now finds that their little hamlet has undergone a population explosion and that means more civil costs, but if the bigger society is still ok then everyone can survive.

……………..

By the 10th generation the planet now has 100 billion people, no fresh water that isn’t contaminated with cholera, and dropping oxygen levels because all the trees have been cut down to build lodging and for fires at night.

Then everyone dies and the bacteria rule the planet.

This is a load of crap to some of us Christians. The whole teaching of Jesus is to DO - to love God & love your neighbor and show it by how you live your life - as Matthew 25 puts it, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”

James, according to some traditions the brother of Jesus, was even more blunt: “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,” and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.”

This is, of course, why many Protestants hate the letter of James and prefer their misrepresentation of Paul instead…

Honestly? I’d probably try to protect my son. Up to a point.
As someone noted earlier, a lifetime label of sexual predator would be a heavy burden for someone who might just have made some really stupid decisions. I don’t know how far this all went, and wasn’t privy to what went on after it was discovered. If this all stopped after he was discovered, then he probably isn’t a danger to others.

What I would not do is make a career out of telling other people how morally superior my family is.

All those candidates, and several others, will walk incredibly carefully not to alienate the Duggars or their followers.

Why do you think Huckabee really came out with that statement today? Is it that he wants teenage boys to fondle little girls? Of course not. But he knows who butters his bread.

The religious right today are all in a frenzy trying to spin the forgiveness angle (see the official Duggar facebook page for example.) What they so much don’t mention is how Jim Bob handled the situation. And of course they are deaf to the irony that all the Duggars and their allies like the FRC call gay people child molesters when all along they were just talking about themselves.

So the image problem that the Duggar huggers like Cruz and Perry et. al. have is that they can’t condemn the whole mess of Duggar-ness, but if they don’t say something it sounds like they are quietly condoning the actions of the Duggars.

Who is Lena Dunham?

Is she some sort of liberal icon with her own reality TV show that all Dems wait in line to suck up to?

Afternoon, Lizards! A question and a prediction:
1, What religious denomination are the Duggars, what with the Church Elders and stuff. Mormons?

2. I predict a GoFundMe site up by the end of the day.

I wonder if GoFundMe will allow it, given the charges that have brought on their current ‘hardship.’

Hopefully they’ll do the right thing and tell the Duggars, in so many words, to go fuck themselves.

I think Ben has outdone Chucky today, between defending Duggar & slamming “fake Jews”

That’s because Chuckie hasn’t woke up/hit the gin/meth yet. Give him time.

It will be interesting. AFAIK, he was never convicted of a crime, so there’s nothing against their TOS. Of course, the Duggars can probably find someone to set up their own fundraising page.

By the 10th generation the planet now has 100 billion people, no fresh water that isn’t contaminated with cholera, and dropping oxygen levels because all the trees have been cut down to build lodging and for fires at night.

Then everyone dies and the bacteria rule the planet.

And the meek shall inherit …

re: #55 calochortus

What I would not do is make a career out of telling other people how morally superior my family is.

To be utterly precise, their career also involves talking about how people that don’t live like them are facilitating sexual depravity, and are a threat to the youth of America. TLC smoothes the edges of the Duggars in editing, but they also do appearances at wingnut events, and do both compensated and volunteer work for wingnut groups. They all talk about how only Christians with traditional families are good people…and, in very specific terms, how gay and trans people are sexual predators.

This is just an extreme example of the baked-in hypocrisy of these patriarchal, social conservative religious movements. Forgiveness is not equally applied: it’s meted out in keeping with the power structure.

Wingnuts like Ben give far more importance to Lena Dunham and Woody Allen than liberals do.

I only see Woody Allen mentioned in “liberal” media (like Jezebel) when they are talking about what a garbage person he is.

Lena Dunham committed the famous act of “molestation” when she was 6 years old and it was one time childhood curiosity. Her mother wisely did not freak out about it.

Wearing hoodies, stealing cigarillos, selling loose cigarettes: all far worse crimes than touching kids. So much worse.

Transgressions that carry the death penalty. And don’t forget a child harassing and threatening the police for 2 seconds before being executed.

Asking as a gentile, but what’s up with Jews accusing other Jews of not being Jewish enough? I see Christians doing the same thing, but there’s seems to be be more vitriol involved.

Reminds me of a Joke:

A Jewish man is shipwrecked and survives alone on a deserted island for 10 years. finally a ship come to rescue him. When they arrive, they find, much to their surprise, the man has constructed two synagogs out of bamboo and coconuts.
“Why,” they ask, “did you build two synagogs when your were the only person here?”
“Well,” replies the man “that temple on the left is where I go to worship, and the one on the right I wouldn’t step foot in to save my life!”

… “confessed his sins to those he harmed [and] sought help,” despite the fact that, according to reports, Josh did not receive counseling and was only sent to live with a family friend who worked in the home remodeling business….” I just posted this info on Huckster’s facebook page. Then there is the fact that the State Trooper “friend” who gave Josh a “stern talking to” is now in prison for 45 years on a second child pornography charge.

Well, Ben Shapiro is a well-known wingnut, but I’m still mystified at what it was that President Obama said at that synagogue to get him so het up. To me, it was pretty much standard “brotherhood” boilerplate - though probably sounding better delivered by PBO - unless it was this bit:

“Jewish values,” Obama said, means caring as well about “a Palestinian child in Ramallah trapped without opportunity.”

Obama rejected the trend in some pro-Israel quarters to brand anyone who questions Israel’s settlement policy, anyone “expressing compassion or empathy towards Palestinian youth,” or anyone who publicly disagrees with the Israeli government as “anti-Israel” or “anti-Jewish.”

that twisted his knickers. Harmless enough to me, but I guess to the extreme-Likudnik fringe, any reference to Palestinians as human beings is considered little better than enabling the Holocaust. Also, because Obama…

95 plansbandc  May 22, 2015 1:56:32pm

So then if you profess to be a Christian, it’s okay to molest children? And now Republicans are pro Chester Molester? Neat.

96 meteor  May 22, 2015 2:25:54pm

Not to get all Bible-thumpy, but this brings something to mind (the speaker in this verse is Jesus):

Matthew 18:6 But he that shall scandalize one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone should be hanged about his neck, and that he should be drowned in the depth of the sea.

97 Thanos  May 22, 2015 2:29:49pm

And the “family values” of the Duggar family are still on display as they demonstrate more concern for the victimizer and their fame rather than for the victims, some of whom are in their family.

He blocked me tout suite. Guess when real questions are asked, the Ginger Avenger squeals like a pig…..
