Same-Sex Marriage Wins in Ireland by a Landslide, Breitbart Says “Why Didn’t the Muslims Help Us?”

CALLING ALL MUSLIMS!
World • Views: 39,731

Today, Ireland became the first country in the world to vote to legalize same-sex marriage, and predictably, right wingers all over America are completely losing their shit.

The funniest reaction I’ve seen so far is at Breitbart “News:” Landslide Win for Same-Sex Marriage in Ireland.

To the very end, opponents of same-sex marriage in Ireland held out hope. Yesterday they were reporting high numbers of immigrant Africans and Muslims standing in line at polling stations and hoped they would balance out the hordes of young people who were expected to make Ireland the first country in the world to vote for same-sex marriage.

Man, that’s gotta be painful, when the people you’ve been smearing and demonizing as uncivilized violent savages for years are the only allies you think you have left.

What a bunch of maroons. Seriously - not all Muslims are opposed to marriage equality. There was a poll not long ago that, IIRC, showed that 42% of American Muslims approve of SSM.

These knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing atavist reactionaries are going the way of the dodo. And they’re slowly starting to realize this, I think.

And it makes them crazy.

From downstairs, I had this comment on this:

re: #133 TedStriker

Lying for Jesus: A feature, not a bug.

Ah, screw them.

Towards the end of the Gospel of John, Jesus says that there are lessons the disciples weren’t ready for then but that the holy spirit (Spirit of Truth) would teach when we were ready. The last time as large a wave of social change went through the west was in the abandonment of chattel slavery in the 1800’s; sometimes peacefully and sometimes not. It could be argued that the spirit was teaching us then. That evil does still exist but now only the worst of us can pretend that it is anything but evil.

Likewise, it is possible to look at the idea that the spirit is leading the young in the west forward on the understanding and acceptance of all people no matter what their gender or sexuality identities are.

This is certainly in opposition to fundamentalism but it is in agreement with the idea to love your neighbor, no matter who, as you love yourself.

6 stpaulbear  May 23, 2015 1:46:17pm

If you’re NOM’s Brian Brown, you can just make up the number of NO voters out of thin air:

…This is a reflection on the increasingly secularized nature of Ireland, together with the utter abandonment of principle by every political party in the nation, all of whom endorsed the referendum. This, combined with intense harassment of any group or individual who spoke out in opposition to the referendum, made it difficult for opponents.

“Despite this, millions of Irish citizens stood to vote to uphold the truth of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Even with this decision in Ireland, the idea of same-sex marriage has been widely rejected by the community of nations around the world, where only 18 nations recognize same-sex ‘marriage’, almost all of them in the west, which represents less than 10% of the nations in the world.

Barely even 1% of the Irish population is Muslim, and I was all “How the fuck did these tardballs think that was going to save their bullshit campaign.” Then I remembered this:

On top of making wholly unwarranted assumptions about how the immigrant and muslim vote would go, these sssholes probably thought there were at least ten times more Muslims in Ireland than there actually are.

11 Jay C  May 23, 2015 1:53:08pm

“Immigrant Africans and Muslims”? Well, they must have ducked out of sight pretty quickly after the voting, ‘cuz most of the pics I’ve seen of the crowds in Ireland celebrating the passing of the referendum make it pretty obvious they’re in Dublin (not Dakar). So what tipped off Breitbart to the move? Were the New Black Panthers there as “pollwatchers”?

I’m trying imagine what the “mission” of the Breitbart site reads like. And then also trying to imagine maintaining the site based on the ‘vision’ of its originator and how a bunch of newer people work off that.

It’s not pretty.

And who knows, they may have many new journalists who think and act like the red-headed wonder boy.

“Why Didn’t the Muslims Help Us?”

ISIS (which RWers conflate with “Muslims”) has certainly been trying to help with this issue, doing the work many God-fearing Texans would like to do but can’t because of federal overreach. Dedicated though they are, though, the ISIS types are little help to right wing homophobes in this country since Obama keeps assassinating ISIS leaders and blowing up their stuff.

30 majii  May 23, 2015 2:23:01pm

The problem with this type of thinking is connected to stereotyping. It appears that whoever wrote this naturally assumed that immigrant Africans and Muslims would vote against same sex marriage in Ireland. This individual has no way of knowing where these persons stood on the matter and to conclude they they would vote against same sex marriage, without speaking with them, is stereotyping.

Just as not all Xs do Y, it is the same for any group of persons who share some traits/characteristics.

For example, I’m a black female who voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, but I did not vote for Jesse Jackson in the GA Democratic Primary when he ran for POTUS. For anyone to assume that I voted for Jackson on the basis of race is a huge mistake.

31 Targetpractice  May 23, 2015 2:25:04pm

Saw some Freepers go so far as to declare that Africa may be the last hope for “civilization.” That’s right, a continent in which Christian gangs and armies have been slaughtering Muslim ones is their idea of “civilization.” It’s pretty fucking scary when you see fellow Americans looking on in envy at what’s going on in places like Nigeria.

Exactly. My mother, born and raised in East Texas, was all for Jesse Jackson at the time (though we didn’t have a primary then). And I, so white I’m practically translucent, have never voted for a Republican in my life. So more on the anti-stereotype scales.

The latest polls seem to show popular opinion in favor of SSM here in the same range as the “Yes” vote in Ireland. The wingnuts leaning on the theory that “A Vote of teh Peepul” would show all those homogaynazis what’s what could be sadly mistaken.

Of course we have no national referendum or initiative in the US. I used to think that we should, but after watching California for a while I’ve changed my mind. We really need to turn the Presidential election into a nationwide affair, though, in place of this state-by-state mishegas….

And I really do believe that’s what scares them more than anything, that they’re no longer the majority and likely never will be again. It’s why they freaked the fuck out when the Pew poll last month showed the number of self-identifying Christians continuing to nosedive, because they’re quickly realizing that their toxic brand of fundamentalism is not winning converts but instead scaring people out of the religion itself. They don’t yet realize that, in the grand scheme of things, they have more similarity to ISIS than they care to admit.

To nobody’s surprise, freepers are going apeshit over the Irish vote, including this truly demented rant:

…Diversity is an anti-religion, and anti-ideology, a nepotism which promotes everything except one’s own family.

Diversity therefore equals the destruction of any and all religions and of all positive ideologies.

Because Diversity can only be destructive: whatever IS is insufficiently or inexactly diverse.
Whatever IS must therefore be destroyed in order to make it MORE Diverse.
And there is no conceivable or measurable end to it. Yesterday’s Diversity is today’s intolerable lack of Diversity.

Diversity is the destruction of Good; and it is the destruction of all types of Good - however defined. All are chewed up and spat out by Diversity.

Diversity is the promotion of chaos by the destruction of Good; and then there-naming of chaos as Good.

Nepotism? Really?

The Texas wingnuts have their bug-out bags packed and ready for when the Jade Helm roundups start, but to where should they bug out?

I initially advised them to flee to Oklahoma, Louisiana, and other neighboring states. Alas, they have seen through this false flag, since many of them now realize that these states are already heavily occupied by the Union US Army.

I think I’ll suggest Mexico and Guatemala instead.

Comcast really knows how to treat a customer well. Had a service call a few days ago, and I found that the cable guy left me a new $40 Klein lineman’s hammer by the drop, and a $28 pair of Klein sidecutters in the grass I haven’t mowed.

(Rather than go around the block with Laura in New Delhi again, I stopped by their service yard and left my phone number under a truck windshield.)

134 Eclectic Cyborg  May 23, 2015 4:49:10pm

Also, on the Josh Duggar front, a blogger on the Blaze (that’d be Glenn Beck’s site) goes for the Dunham attack:

Speaking of hypocrites, I’m going to be very frank with you: I simply don’t believe most progressives actually care that Josh Duggar touched his sisters when he was 14. I don’t believe they are upset about it, or that it offends them, or that they are morally troubled by it. I don’t believe them. I just don’t.

I think they’re the real hypocrites.

After all, Lena Dunham admitted to inappropriately touching her sister, and she told the story in a jovial way, as if it were an amusing anecdote. Unlike Josh — who repented long ago, and when it was made public owned up to it and apologized again — Lena responded by telling her critics in the right wing conspiracy to “back the f**k up, bros.” While Duggar called his own behavior inexcusable, Dunham described the people upset about her behavior as “disgusting old men.”

Yet Dunham remains a liberal hero.

Just like Bill Clinton, who was credibly accused of rape multiple times. And Harvey Milk, a gay rights icon who got his very own Hollywood biopic, and a creep who regularly sodomized teenage boys. Progressive culture is filled to the brim with rapists, molesters, and deviants, but they never seem worried about any of it until some well known Christian crosses the line.

It’s always interesting to watch progressives discover sexual morality just in time to denounce a right winger, only to shed the pretense as soon as the next liberal pervert comes out of the woodwork.

They are moral opportunists. They are the actual hypocrites. This outrage is a charade. A circus. A show. A political ploy.

It always is.

I’m not going to link but just Google “Duggar blaze” if you want to read the whole thing. I’m pretty sure it’s the second result.

Maybe it’s different market to market, but I’ve been dealing with local cable from Teleprompter to Group W to TCI to AT&T to Comcast to Xfinity (I’m missing at least one, I know I am), and I have to say, the last few years (since they’ve been using the name Xfinity, maybe) customer service is almost infinitely better than it used to be. Mainly because they’ll let you come and pick up the equipment and plug it in yourself, but dealing with them on the phone and at the cable store is much, much better. YMMV—obviously it does.

If it’s like an oil burning smell, probably some of the gunk on the under carriage has washed over onto the exhaust system. Let it warm up, park it (running) and get out and open the hood, look for any smoke coming up there, crawl around looking under the car for any smoke or where the smell is particularly strong.

How deep was the water?

I’m going with the got stuff on the exhaust theory then… or there could have been oil / gunk because by that point all the storm sewers have backed up.

justanotherhuman is absolutely right however. You can never tell how deep it really is, and if the water is running…. it only takes a very few inches to actually push your car right off the road. (Learned that one down in Arkansas).

In any case, a good mechanic will be able to tell you pretty quickly, but me being me, I’d keep driving it… your risk tolerance level may vary, and that’s cool too.

Let The Games Begin!!!!

From what I read, he was doing a full court press on it, lots of supporters shipped in, lots of life-sized cardboard cutouts of him to carry around, the whole deal.

So…
Someone used my email address and name to create a facebook account.
Contacted facebook and got the account disabled. So if you got something from ‘me’, it wasn’t.
WTF.

I remember now!
I created that account ages ago to keep in touch with family. I haven’t used it in years.
Odd. At first I thought it a phishing attempt, but the email was legit.
Whatevers, it’s dealt with.

Rick Joyner Apologizes To Putin And Islamists For America Becoming ‘A Gay Nation’

There’s nothing to keep Joyner from racing over to Russia or the ME and moving in among the people he esteems so much. Now would be good.

And lose all the benefits he gets from living in the US? Just cause he hates what our country stands for doesn’t mean that he doesn’t understand the benefits of living here, or having US citizenship. People like him are hypocrites.

Besides he’s like Bradlee Dean. He only seems to like Muslims when they attack gay people, and he’d have to convict to Islam if he moved to Saudi Arabia. I don’t think he’d want to do that, especially since he is still Islamophobic. He wouldn’t have to change his religion if he moved to any other Middle Eastern nation, but he still wouldn’t like being surrounded by Muslims. That just leaves, Russia, but even he admits that Putin is running the country like a gangster.

For laughs, I listened to Bradlee Dean’s podcast a few times. It is astonishingly bad. He needs medication.
