The reactions reflect a failure on the part of some gamers to recognize that whiteness is a race at all. These players appear to think of whiteness as a neutral type of embodiment, the universal category of humanity against which all those who do “have” a race (anyone who is not white) are compared.

For all the supposed progressiveness of today’s youth, I guess I am somewhat perturbed that they wholeheartedly still cling to the idea of “race”, and very old ideas too (e.g., that “race” == skin color.)

It doesn’t help that the idea of “race” is so useful in political polemics.

As pointed out on the Finding Your Roots series, the head of the NAACP’s DNA is mostly from Europe, with sub-Saharan ancestors making up the minority of his background.

But because he has brown-ish skin so many people will assign him to the “black” race.

Keep in mind that Ricky S came in second last time around, and if Sheldon Adelson had not thrown a lot of money into Newt Gingrich’s campaign, it could have come to a floor fight at the GOP convention, which is the last thing they wanted or want in 2016.

Josh Smith is that really weird gay lawyer from Pittsburgh who opposes the courts deciding marriage equality and is opposed to the Lawrence v Texas decision. His hobby is to hang out at the Courthouse on certain days and provide free legal council to defendants (men) who have been issued “protection from abuse” court order (the PA equivalent of a domestic restraining order). I posted some of his videos from his super awful Youtube channel awhile ago. He even had Chuck on as a guest back in February:

re: #64 Kragar

So Santorum is another pinhead that thinks a flat income tax will somehow greatly simplify the tax code. Setting forth a schedule of progressive income tax rates takes about 1 page of text (even for GOPers writing in crayon).

Meanwhile, the other infinity + 1 pages of the US tax code mainly have to do with what counts as income. Some simplification is possible if only one kind of income is considered, but even if that were done, defining ‘income’ is always going to be the most complicated part of the tax code.

Meanwhile, the idea of abolishing the IRS is a stupid GOP talking point designed to appeal to deeply stupid voters, and deserves nothing but total contempt.
