Armed Biker Gang Plans Open-Carry “Draw Mohammed” Contest Outside Phoenix Mosque

Inspired by Pamela Geller to reach new heights of bigotry and hatred

Here we go again. This time it’s a crazed anti-Muslim right winger in Phoenix, planning to hold a ‘Draw Muhammad’ Contest right in front of the Islamic Community Center.

The organizer of the event, Jon Ritzheimer, has held two protests in Phoenix since the Texas shootings. The chants and slogans at the protests are brash and hateful. Some supporters wear t-shirts that state, “(expletive) Islam.” Ritzheimer says he is using provocative methods to draw attention to a religion he believes at its core promotes violence.

“I want this to be about pushing out the truth about Islam,” said Jon Ritzheimer. “I’ve read the Koran three times… [Sure he has. – ed.] the ones flying the planes into the tower, those are Muslims following the book as it is written.”

A Facebook page dedicated to the event titled “Freedom of Speech Rally Round II” states: “This will be a PEACEFUL protest in front of the Islamic Community Center in Phoenix AZ… Everyone is encouraged to bring American flags and any message that you would like to send to the known acquaintances of the 2 gunmen.”

What this article at KPNX doesn’t mention is that Ritzheimer is actually leading a gang of bikers to stage this protest — and they intend to display lots of guns as well.

And to give you an idea of what kind of person Ritzheimer is, here’s a picture he proudly posted of himself at his Facebook page:

The president of the Islamic Community Center of Phoenix where the protest is planned said he has been notified by Phoenix Police and the FBI about the event. Usama Shami said he respects the protesters’ right to free speech.

“Everybody has a right to be a bigot. Everybody has a right to be a racist. Everybody has a right to be an idiot,” Shami said. He added that members of the mosque have been encouraged to attend prayer services Friday evening as scheduled.

“It will be the same as every Friday evening and we’re going to tell our members what we’ve told them before: not to engage them,” said Shami. “They’re not looking for an intellectual conversation. They’re looking to stir up controversy and we’re not going to be a part of it.”

Good move, Mr. Shami. Really let the world see a bunch of bigoted idiots protesting a mosque simply for being a mosque.

An armed draw Mohammed rally? Fuck these people. They’re not Americans.

6 mr.fusion  May 28, 2015 11:08:57am

These idiots would be the first to incite violence if Muslims went outside a church with the infamous “piss Christ” painting or held a Muslim “draw Jesus” contest.

Uh huh. And get these guys within earshot or maybe gunshot of a big atheists gathering and hear them scream all about religious freedoms.

CJ Werleman thinks a lot, of himself at least, I think. Wikipedia says he’s a plagiarist.

In 2013, CJ had another epithany: religion is not THE problem, he pondered, but fundamentalism is THE problem - and fundamentalism can be both religious and secular.

These idiots would be the first to incite violence if Muslims went outside a church with the infamous “piss Christ” painting or held a Muslim “draw Jesus” contest.

The people who sent death threats to Serrano over that didn’t ask him anything about his intent:

“At the time I made Piss Christ, I wasn’t trying to get anything across,” Serrano told the Guardian. “In hindsight, I’d say Piss Christ is a reflection of my work, not only as an artist, but as a Christian.”

Some Christians find the work deeply offensive. Anger towards the photograph hit a pinnacle on Palm Sunday 2011 when French Catholic fundamentalists attacked and destroyed the photograph with hammers. Serrano’s photograph of a meditating nun was also damaged in the attack.

The thing about the crucifix itself is that we treat it almost like a fashion accessory. When you see it, you’re not horrified by it at all, but what it represents is the crucifixion of a man,” Serrano told the Guardian. “And for Christ to have been crucified and laid on the cross for three days where he not only bled to death, he shat himself and he peed himself to death.

“So if Piss Christ upsets you, maybe it’s a good thing to think about what happened on the cross.”

Oh, oh. This sounds like an invitation for radicals to try to outsmart the bikers.

Fuck, pipe bombs, pressure cooker bombs, gas bombs, other IEDs, Molotov cocktails, snipers, cars.

I can think of a lot of ways the bad guys could damage the good guys with guns, without using guns.

I hope calmer minds prevail.

I’m a known “ccw for cause” advocate. Even I have to point out—-I can’t imagine a place more likely than a protest & possible riot for that gun to be a frightening liability. Open carry? So anyone crowded close can grab it? Or you have to put your hand on it to keep it safe?!? Maybe a biker bar would be a worse place but not by much.

I know it would be difficult to coordinate, but not impossible.

No one should pay any attention whatsoever to Jon Ritzheimer and his protesters. Most of the people who use the Islamic Community Center should go on vacations somewhere else during the protest, but maybe have a few to stay inside and just keep an eye on things.

The media and everyone else (except law enforcement) should ignore Jon Ritzheimer and his protesters.

Officers arrested a Tallahassee woman who they say began to rip apart a Satanic Temple holiday display in the lobby of the Florida Capitol on Tuesday.

Susan Hemeryck, 54, told two Florida Department of Law Enforcement Capitol Police officers that she was “sorry and had to take down the Satanic display,” because it was “not right” before she attempted to tear it about 11:30 a.m.

Hemeryck then tried to remove the display. Officers stopped her and told her to put it back.

One of the officers explained to her that removing the display was in violation of the law. In response, Hemeryck said, she “could not take it anymore” and began to rip the display apart.

From another article on this “protest”

Ritzheimer says the Garland shooting struck a nerve.

“I appreciate the (Phoenix Islamic Center) did come out and they condemned the two gunman,” Ritzheimer said. “They’ve come out and they’ve condemned ISIS.”

But it’s still not enough from the Phoenix Islamic Community Center of Phoenix, where the two gunmen worshipped, he said.

“People call them an extremist; to me it’s just a Muslim following their book as it’s written,” Ritzheimer said.

These folks might want attention. Sure.

But then other folks who want Muslims out of their communities would learn that if you do this, Muslims won’t show up to worship there. And if you do it enough, they’ll probably leave and find a location elsewhere where people aren’t regularly protesting with guns and they need to avoid their community center in order to deny the protesters attention and/or reduce the potential number of targets if the shit does hit the fan. That’s not okay, but that’s a very definite possibility if people decided that this was an effective technique at preventing Muslims from worshiping in their communities.

This is one of the most horrible things I’ve ever heard of being openly planned, and what’s equally frightening, is that these people feel emboldened enough to announce their plan to the media. Their self-righteousness is sickening and dangerous.

These assholes, like the Klan, are absurd fringers until they sense the community, LE, and local justice apparatus are on their side. Then they elevate to atrocity.

re: #89 klys (maker of Silmarils)

These folks might want attention. Sure.

But then other folks who want Muslims out of their communities would learn that if you do this, Muslims won’t show up to worship there. And if you do it enough, they’ll probably leave and find a location elsewhere where people aren’t regularly protesting with guns and they need to avoid their community center in order to deny the protesters attention and/or reduce the potential number of targets if the shit does hit the fan. That’s not okay, but that’s a very definite possibility if people decided that this was an effective technique at preventing Muslims from worshiping in their communities.

I agree with the community’s current response: ignore, do not engage, and go about their business.

I agree, but hope/wish the civic authorities line up on the right side of this issue in terms of preparation, reaction time, and if necessary arrest and prosecution of those who act criminally.

Yes, completely.

The community that I was referring to in the “ignore and go about their business” line was specifically the Muslim congregation; I think it is our responsibility as citizens to step up and help protect and society’s responsibility to make sure the civic authorities are there to act appropriately as needed to protect the congregation and the wider community.

Common Core - the voluntary agreement among states and by states to improve the curricula according to a set of standards that they voluntarily agreed to. New Jersey originally agreed to this in 2010. Guess who the governor was in 2010.

Gov. Chris Christie, who took office in January of 2010.

The National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) led the development of the Common Core State Standards with the participation of educators, curriculum experts, school administrators and higher education faculty. The standards have been voluntarily adopted by a majority of the states.

[snip]

The standards are not a curriculum. The Common Core State Standards define what students are expected to know and be able to do. In New Jersey, local school districts have the responsibility to develop curricula that will assist teachers in ensuring that students meet the Common Core State Standards. All decisions regarding textbooks, reading lists, and lesson plans continue to be made at the local level.

Rather than blocking and banning assholes, Twitter should just implement a programmatic approach to them. If they post hateful content, flag their account and limit their distribution to other Twitter users in the same category. People like Chuck C. Johnson could then spew all the hate they want, and they’d be none the wiser as the only people who would get to read it would be other hate spewers. Meanwhile, their timeline looks, for all intents and purposes, like it hasn’t been affected at all. Except their followers won’t see any tweets unless they a) visit the Timeline intentionally, or b) happen to be categorized in the same hate group due to the content of their tweets.

Simpson and Soofi attended the Islamic Community Center of Phoenix until 2010 and, according to mosque leaders, never expressed extremist or violent views while attending during that time.

So the people in this mosque have denounced terrorism & ISIS and the shooters from Garland haven’t attended it in FIVE YEARS, so they clearly didn’t get their extremist ideas from there, yet the members of the mosque are still guilty of… what? Being Muslim, I guess.

Same article:

One Facebook post on the page states, “Death to Islam! No coexistence!” Another comment states, “I am proud to be part of this rally and will continue to be a part of it until we have the freedom that all our vets and current military fight for!!! This is my way of joining their efforts!”

Really? REALLY? Because my dad was a marine who fought in the South Pacific in WWII to protect YOUR SORRY ASS, but I, as a Muslim, shouldn’t have freedom of religion. EAT SHIT.

Oh, and you give a fuck about our servicemen? Do you not understand that images of this stupid rally will be shown all over the Muslim world as propaganda and will further endanger members of our military serving there?

Cleveland cops violent and lazy!

Okay, seriously, let’s think about this. If I suddenly pulled a gun on another person, but did not fire it, I’d likely be charged with a crime. Somewhere down the chain, whether it was before the police or before a judge, I’d have to justify why I pulled a gun and pointed it at another human being.

But the Cleveland PD says a cop can’t take the time to fill out paperwork to justify why he pulled his gun? When doing so is supposed to be a last resort? If he’s pulled his gun, odds are he’s either going to have to fill out an arrest report or he’s going to have to fill out a report justifying shooting someone. So how is adding this report going to make him hesitate to pull his gun?

Ya know there’s a lot I disagree with Muslim creed about i.e. I enjoy pork products a lot and like any good Irish boy, I love my whiskey. And as a social liberal, my views disagree with many devout Muslims on things like choice or gay rights but at the same token, Muslims should have a right to worship in this country without being harassed by a bunch of hateful bigots. I may detest evangelical Christianity but I don’t want fellow secular liberals protesting the very right to exist of these churches. Yes, I may disagree with their worldviews and even find it disgusting but I don’t deny their right to exist peacefully and that’s the biggest difference between a secular liberal like me and these bigots who want to protest the very right to exist for American Muslims.

It’s time to get the fuck out of that line of work. Right wing Christians think “religious freedom” is them being able to treat gay people like shit that’s not what religious freedom is and it’s disgusting that they’re using religious freedom, a legitimate goal of all free people as an excuse for refusing to treat their fellow gay and lesbian citizens like human beings. As Texas asks for Federal money to repair infrastructure damaged by the recent rainfall:

“…When the Eighty-fourth Legislature ends on Monday, your Texas leaders will brag that they have balanced the state budget and put forth proposals to cut the state business tax and to reduce property tax burdens. What they won’t tell you is they are hoarding more than $18 billion that could have gone to deeper tax cuts, or to repairing the state’s infrastructure or improving roads, or to reducing state debt, or to eliminating a deficit in the pension fund for state employees, or even to public education.”
texasmonthly.com

“…Ultimately, it will be left to Abbott and his advisors to determine the extent to which FEMA and the federal government are involved in ongoing recovery efforts. FEMA stressed Tuesday that it was too soon to determine whether the situation in Texas will merit federal disaster aid, as officials had yet to fully assess storm-related fallout and were likely still focused on response as opposed to recovery. But significant damage to vital infrastructure, such as major roads and schools, could eventually trigger federal assistance.”

(Actually, the initial page indicated it was a Denny’s lot. Denny’s has a “checkered” civil rights history.)

So, they’re meeting at a Denny’s a few miles north of the mosque to have their drawing contest; then going to rally by the mosque. Looking at the location, it appears to be right off a one-way freeway service road; the only parking lot looks to be that at the mosque. So what will the “rally” consist of? Doing wheelies as the drive past the mosque? Then turning around, going north on the other side of the freeway, turning around again and going past the mosque again?

It sounds ugly and mean (of course) but I don’t get what it is they think they’re going to do. Doesn’t look like they have any kind of permit, and it doesn’t look like there’s anywhere near the mosque to hold a rally.

Or am I missing something?

And I thought my strep diagnosis yesterday was bad - missed work last night at the hotel and at Pizza Hut today but that’s not as bad as getting cut open. Hope he heals fast and you both get some rest.

Reminds me, time for my antibiotic…

re: #226 Jenner7

Well, that was fun.

I am running on one hour of sleep. Took Hubby to ER last night for abdominal pain and at 5 this morning, it was confirmed: Appendicitis. He had surgery at 7 and is now home. I’m ready to drop.

Hope all is well here.

::yawn::

Hope he’s recovering well. Maybe he’ll sleep so you can.

That’s a hell of a way to get out of work, though. : )

Friends of Oathkeepers. Opposed to the 14th Amendment (birthright citizenship).

According to the Arizona Corporation Commission, it looks like he formed his own MC as a not-for-profit, but never did much of anything with it. If my reading of the status is correct, it was administratively dissolved in 2014 for failing to file an annual report (Status: AD-DISSOLVED-FILE ANNUAL REPORT).

Interestingly, it also provided the names of three other “directors”, but I haven’t had a chance to check them out yet. Mr. Asshat left traces of himself all over the place, so it’ll be interesting to see if the others have also.

Damn. That is real sad.

I hope they find the person that did it. They are going to find out they screwed up real bad.

Later folks. Gonna get some dinner going and maybe play some guitar.

Ooof, that’s not any fun.

Recovery is a whole lot easier than it used to be, though. I watched my dad’s (pre-laproscopic) and mine was a cakewalk in comparison to his.

BTW, how’s hubby’s knee?

I was sure there were good people there, but not sure they could get organized. With any luck, no one gets hurt. With great good luck, the nativist dimwits will come off looking like buffoons, at least on the national level.

Ooo, ooo, I’m always fond of the pharmacists who don’t want to dispense birth control because it goes against their religion! You want to come between me and the medication my doctor has prescribed for my medical issues, GO RIGHT AHEAD. I will gladly make your professional career hell for making assumptions and interfering in my medical treatment.

Yeah so called “conscience clauses.” So stupid.

Both are doing excellently! The occasional pop or twinge, but physical therapy is down to once a week, he’s been cleared to resume exercise, and overall things are much improved.

He’s grumpy because there is a big presentation coming up at work next week though. I’m hoping being able to start exercising again will help.

“Some people have tried comparing me to Martin Luther King”

That’s very much the same thing said by one of the speakers at the AmRen conference, videos of which I suffered through these past few days.

The speaker’s assertion is that they need a “white” “Marthin Luther King”.

I find this more than a coincidence.

Rather like being a Christian Scientist and becoming a doctor.

Yes I am a medical doctor but I’m not going to treat you because it goes against my sincerely held beliefs

You take guns to a political rally for a single reason and that’s to intimidate.

If they can’t use Denny’s, where will they get the placemats and crayons?

Hmm, that DOES present a bit of a snag in their otherwise carefully conceived plan.

Maybe they can start at Wild Bills (where they plan on having their “after party”—from the latest Yelp review— Wild Bill’s is the newest hotspot for all the motorcycle lifestyle peoples! )and walk to the Mosque—it’s less than a mile; I’m sure they’re all in great shape.

Or, they could just fucking stay home and mind their own damn business. (Like THAT will happen.)

Okay I noticed this when they whined about Frozen last year but what the hell is it with right wingers in whining about movies that have been out for well over a year? The Lego Movie was released last February. As a point of reference, my niece was born in March of last year and she’s been walking for some time. Secondly, it’s a fucking movie and free country and even if the movie is critical of capitalism, that’s okay, that’s part of a free society. Capitalism isn’t some sacred cow that is beyond criticism but I’m betting that Johnson who is a total Koch puppet is upset about corporate bigshots like the ones that keep him in power being portrayed in a negative light.

My favorite delayed movie reaction though was when the NRA tried to blame Natural Born Killers and American Psycho for the Newtown shooting not you know ridiculously easy access to guns by Lanza. Nah it was a pair of movies released when the killer was a child and there was no record of him having definitely seen and even if so.

I got an aftermarket headlight pulser to cycle the light at around 30Hz. The AL cops weren’t “sure” about them.

Never heard of these, but did you mean 3 Hz instead of 30Hz? The human eye would probably see 30Hz flashing as a solid light.

This whole thing has the potential to turn into the most gigantic clusterf*** ever to be seen in Phoenix in a long time
- Angry, Racist, Armed, Idiot Biker gangsters who are going to try and rush and get in the faces of worshipers… I’m not even going to put it past them that should a Muslim somehow is caught on guard its going to be nasty. They also probably don’t care about what the police and FBI bring on.
- Armed Police Officers who will react should Bikers try to pull something
- Muslims who might try to take a stand and show resilience and ignore them, or are just devout. Some might also choose to exercise their right to the second amendment should all things go to hell.
- Neighbors of the mosque are pretty worried
