Our Howler of the Day From Jim Hoft, Stupidest Man on the Internet

Indicted, convicted, what’s the difference?

DERP

DERPThe fabled Stupidest Man on the Internet, Jim Hoft, seems to have been asleep for the past week or so, because last night he posted another one of his ridiculous attacks on Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, citing a Fox News guest who raised the horrifying specter of black people registering to vote so they can get into the jury pool for the trial of the officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray.

Registering to VOTE?! How dare they?

But the SMOTI, in his usual exceedingly dim fashion, posted a real howler of a headline: Report: Baltimore Activists Are Working to Stack Jury to Get Cops Indicted (VIDEO) | the Gateway Pundit.

Somebody should let Hoft know the officers were already indicted on May 21st. But wake him up gently, won’t you?

Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby charged six city police officers with murder and manslaughter in the death of serial criminal Freddie Gray.

The six Baltimore officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray are (top row from left) Caesar Goodson Jr., Garrett Miller, Edward Nero and (bottom row from left) William Porter, Brian Rice and Alicia White. (Baltimore Police Department via AP)

On Thursday FOX News contributor Attorney Mark Eiglarsh made the accusation that Marilyn Mosby knows there is a movement in Baltimore to get young blacks signed up to vote so they can stack the jury against the cops.

“Marilyn Mosby is watching… She knows that there are people, a movement now in Baltimore to get young men signed up to vote so they can go into the jury pool… Yes, it’s in motion… To get these officers.”

Yeah Jim how dare they register to vote so they could get into a jury pool. It’s almost like they think they’re citizens or something! How outrageous. Really Jim go fuck yourself for continuing to berate people of this country simply because of their skin color.

I like the implication that “a jury of their peers” couldn’t possibly have any black youth on it.

Or that black folks can’t be on a jury involving the death of a black person. Because only white people can be unbiased deciders!

There’s so many layers to the stupid and the racism here, and I bet few of the folks saying things like this would acknowledge any of it.

It’s like when the religious right boiled their shit over the Prop-8 appellate judge being gay. The contempt these people and Hoft for have for our democratic traditions couldn’t be more obvious here.

8 Targetpractice  May 29, 2015 11:18:51am

What’s really hilarious is Dim Jim apparently didn’t get the memo that the defense attorneys for the cops have already filed for a change of venue. Or perhaps that’s the whole purpose of pearl-clutching like this, to put in the mind of the judge who’ll have to rule on that motion the idea that he/she has to move this trial out to the lily white burbs so that these cops can receive a “fair” trial.

27 freetoken  May 29, 2015 11:28:39am

Not about Hoft, but still along the lines of S.o.t.I. -

A large derp eruption is occurring in the denial-o-sphere over this paper:

Ocean impact on decadal Atlantic climate variability revealed by sea-level observations

Somehow this supposedly proves global warming is a hoax, etc.

However, of course it doesn’t, but rather is a step forward for physical oceanography and climatology. From the abstract:

Decadal variability is a notable feature of the Atlantic Ocean and the climate of the regions it influences. Prominently, this is manifested in the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) in sea surface temperatures. Positive (negative) phases of the AMO coincide with warmer (colder) North Atlantic sea surface temperatures. The AMO is linked with decadal climate fluctuations, such as Indian and Sahel rainfall1, European summer precipitation2, Atlantic hurricanes3 and variations in global temperatures4. It is widely believed that ocean circulation drives the phase changes of the AMO by controlling ocean heat content5. However, there are no direct observations of ocean circulation of sufficient length to support this, leading to questions about whether the AMO is controlled from another source6. Here we provide observational evidence of the widely hypothesized link between ocean circulation and the AMO. We take a new approach, using sea level along the east coast of the United States to estimate ocean circulation on decadal timescales. We show that ocean circulation responds to the first mode of Atlantic atmospheric forcing, the North Atlantic Oscillation, through circulation changes between the subtropical and subpolar gyres—the intergyre region7. These circulation changes affect the decadal evolution of North Atlantic heat content and, consequently, the phases of the AMO. The Atlantic overturning circulation is declining8 and the AMO is moving to a negative phase. This may offer a brief respite from the persistent rise of global temperatures4, but in the coupled system we describe, there are compensating effects. In this case, the negative AMO is associated with a continued acceleration of sea-level rise along the northeast coast of the United States9, 10.

The AMO has been discussed in this regards for several years now. A paper a few years back pointed out how change in the AMO could be the reason for slightly slower rise in global surface temps than would be expected without the change in the AMO.

What the derpers also fail to understand is that the net energy flow into the surface (land and sea) has to go somewhere, and all these changing ocean layers do is move the energy deeper into the sea… and not into space… which is why sea level rise will continue from the warming of water in the ocean.

But all of that is too hard for the denialists.
