Read the terms of service, idiot. It’s like a contract. You sign it, and Twitter can do whatever the TOS says it can do.

Saying Twitter is a public utility does not make it so. Chuck was saying in his interview with Milo that there was “all this talk” about Twitter being a utility. All that talk is in his head, or maybe with his shyster lawyer.

What a bunch of spoiled idiot children they are.

BTW, peoples, after Beach_Dem called it to my attention, I fixed the link in part 1 of the Milo-Chuck Comedy Hour. I realized after the first cup of morning coffee that the original link text (“To be continued”) suggested the next part was not yet available. I’ve fixed it to be more clear the other parts do exist.

But UpChuck says his white supremacists friends say they just want to be left alone, so they can live in peace in their little whites-only compounds.

Can’t find time in their release schedule for a Tron sequel, can find time for a movie about a white guy who laid claim to land in Africa so his daughter could be a “princess.”

I read it on my iPad. Just followed the links at the bottom. “Stay Tuned” “And The Answer To This Question Next” etc.

Seriously, great work. I admire your Princetonian mind, and your patience with toxic fools like UpChuck. And the fact that you write all this shit from China, the great Firewall.

Ah, so he finally realized editor at gotnews dot com was a flagged email for Twitter. Oh well, shit happens.

Yeah, funny thing that. He’s mentioned it every chance he gets, so it’s probably ended up in a lot of followers’ tweets.

I should create an email addy at gotnwes.com just to see what happens. {Looks slyly to the right, and snickers.}

ADDENDUM: Actually, I can’t, since gotnwes is a subdomain of wheatdogg.com, so editor AT gotnwes DOT com probably wouldn’t work.

With apologies to Messrs. Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer:

It’s quarter to two
And nobody’s in the place
Except me and you

So set ‘em Joe
I got a little story
You really don’t wanna know

I’m drinking my friend

Of that gross Chuck C. Johnson episode

So make it one for my baby
And one more for the road

She has no problem understanding harassment when (white) women are the target.

She’s clearly in the pay per click phase of her writing career. The CCJ/Deray article carved out a deliberately controversial position and blithely stealth quoted neo nazi Auernheimer because she needed page views. Also, it aids her view that clout and power is all that really matters to Twitter’s management, which if she’d stopped there would contain a strong kernel of truth. Unfortunately she also felt it necessary to throw in a bunch of false equivalence, nonsense about “transparency” and ridiculous political pandering bullshit to pull in the idiotic snake person demographic.

43 goddamnedfrank  May 30, 2015 1:48:54am

I really don’t understand the fixation a lot of writers have about needing consistency and clearly identified rules of conduct on Twitter. I think the problem is the overall lack of moderation, not that innocent people might get inadvertently banned by poorly delineated rules. Adults know when they’re acting like assholes, when they’re lashing out, what the rules are.

Would you accept some random guy threatening your Mom, doxing your sister, creeping on your daughter? No? Then don’t do it to anybody else, male or female.

Do you expect to be forgiven two, three or more times for acting like a dick in a private brick and mortar establishment? No? Then you absolutely do not need a rule spelling out for you exactly how many conduct violations you’re allowed before a free online service gets fed up enough with you to send you packing.

re: #43 goddamnedfrank

I’m of two minds about this. On one hand, consistency is always appreciated, just as a matter of principle. On the other hand, Twitter, as a private company, doesn’t have to be consistent. It’s their right to ban whoever they choose on whatever laughable - or respectable - pretexts.

Also, it’s not a public utility, it’s a site about sending 140-character messages. Sometimes it can be important, but: meh. It’s like a storm in a teacup.

CCj was saying some nonsense to Milo about how starting a Twitter competitor would be so difficult because regulations, White House, government, and other CT BS. He really seems to believe Twitter has become an arm of the Evil Librul in the White House or something.

I feel like a hard and fast set of how many strikes an account gets can easily lead to the gaming of abuse.

If somebody goes on a long drunken bender and says a bunch of really fucked up gawdawful shit, but then writes out a genuinely contrite apology (and say goes into rehab) I’d probably forgive them quicker than someone who just toes over the line once but is absolutely obstinate about acknowledging error and has a long history of sniveling micro-aggressions that were never acted upon.

Governing conduct is a fluid human problem. Guidelines are valuable, absolutist obedience to the rules frequently isn’t. And I have zero tolerance for the ever present playground level “so and so does it too / did something much worse” argument.

Note that that he was perceived as an ally (and he was, in a sense). Nobody knew that such a high-ranking police officer would turn out to be a turncoat. It’s like blaming Obama for helping the Syrian rebels, many of whom later joined ISIS.

Drat, had to sign off too early last night and missed most of the history/genealogy/fun stuff on the last thread. Love this place!

But so relieved nothing blew up in Phoenix. So what’s the next move for these idiots, try another ‘rally’ at another mosque, or come back to this one every week and hope the cops get bored with guarding it? They may not have very good luck trying to rally in Texas till things dry out a lot — too many real and very immediate problems to deal with there.

Speaking of which, good thoughts to all of the Texas lizards. Hope you catch a break in this soon.

Mr. Johnson fights for truth in a world increasingly dominated by political correctness.

Homophobia, Islamophobia, Misogyny and Racism are most often propagandistic labels that have been coined by Fascists and used by Cowards, to manipulate Morons.

Mr. Johnson fights political correctness by going head to head with individuals that that use these hyperbolic tools and is routinely tarred with the brush of “Troll” when “Oracle” is probably more appropriate.

Politics and “Journalists” fear him because he holds no loyalty

Here in the Dallas area, we’re getting through another round of rain. Thursday night, a system came through and stalled over Garland, dumping six inches on the city and surrounding areas. This morning, we’ve had another heavy bout of rain. A lot of our streets are starting to look like what we saw earlier this week down in Austin/San Antonio.

For those who like numbers, here’s the Army Corps of Engineers’ page for lakes under Fort Worth Area managment: swf-wc.usace.army.mil. At the beginning of the year, at least 90% of the Difference column was red. The two lakes nearest me, Ray Hubbard and Lavon (which feeds into Ray Hubbard) were 10 and 14 ft below. Now, Lavon is over flood stage, and Ray Hubbard is a foot over, and that’s with them opening the dams for the last two weeks. The numbers at the dams now are incredible: Ray Hubbard is releasing 20,000 cfs.

That is not necessarily a bad thing mind you, just a status check on the further need of barf bags.

And regarding Scotty Walker and his war on education, does anyone know what is really behind his tearing up the higher-education system in Wisconsin?

All I can see is it has been way too liberal for the block-headed conservatives and they think they can kill off liberal progressive thinking by destroying the colleges.

Or, they see it all as a threat to their power and riches and they don’t want that competition, so gut it and turn it all into a large vocational school system to feed them just the workers they need to keep that power and riches going in their direction.

It all seems so un-Amnerican and I really can’t see what they find the benefit in tearing up a great education system.

Yep, and that that mindset seeps into so many of the public school systems(that just happen to be as segregated as they were in the 60’s). The statistics on discipline are appalling. The way that racial bias exists in school discipline matches the way it exists in society as a whole. And when you have black and brown kids that are made into thugs and vagrants from the time that they are 5 years old by authority figures, is there any wonder why there is a natural distrust of all law enforcement.

Well honestly I was talking strictly how he would do as a president. Some people just aren’t presidential material.

My brother had a lot of African American friends growing up. He’s seen first hand how white authority figures treat people of color differently. Hell I still remember one time when he got in trouble for I think cursing back at a kid who called him a white n-word that the principal tried to excuse it by saying “Oh he just meant he was wigging out.” My dad had to explain to the principal what that word actually was. And even with that still, I don’t think the kid got any discipline. Later when him and his friends were in middle school, the elementary school principal immediately blamed them for it to the police even though she had no evidence at all it was them.

President Adams on line 3…

Adams went on the ballot for the first time 24 years after his father left office. Hillary and W meanwhile first sought it 8 years after their husband and father left respectively. I understand that it is the situation we are in and Hillary will be a good candidate but you do have to excuse me if I don’t have understandable Bush/Clinton fatigue and worry if that may play a role in decreased turnout thus aiding Jeb. That said I do think Hillary being on the top of the ticket could genuinely excite women voters who will be excited to see the first major party woman nominee for president.

sanders is too far to the left to have much of a chance even if he could get past Hillary. Maybe against Ted Cruz he’d have a shot, but Rand Paul has enough libertarian-populist positions to undercut Sanders badly. Marco Rubio or Jed Bush would walk to victory against Sanders.

My facebook friends are in LOVE with Sanders. I agree that he’s not going to replace Hillary, but he’s make the democratic debates much more lively. He can bring up topics that Hillary really can’t initiate, and she doesn’t even have to make a contrary stand in order to remain the front runner. She probably agrees with most of what Sanders stands for (and that doesn’t mean she’s a commie ///).

As for Rand Paul having ‘enough’ l-p positions, Rand has hundreds of positions on everything. If you don’t like todays position, wait until tomorrow.

Paul has basically become like Mitt Romney in that respect. He knows he has to be more successful than dear old Dad and he thinks the way to do it is to be one thing to one audience and another to another audience. I have to say I did not like his Dad at all and I think Ron Paul is one of the worst people to run for president in recent years but he was generally consistent. Rand meanwhile will rag on Israel and foreign aid to Israel in one instance and the other kiss Bibi’s ass. And he’s like this on a host of other issues. I have a lot of friends who love Sanders too. I think and this pains me since I really do respect him the most of all the prospective candidates but I don’t know if he’d make a good president. I think too many liberals think that just having a staunch liberal in there is all the left needs. You need someone more practical minded I guess. I really hate to sound like I’m ragging on Bernie here because he really is genuinely principled but I just don’t know if he’d make a good president.

It’s a quasi-privatization, and it is to a good degree political. But its much less about threat removal than about a school of thought (forgive the phrase, its the best fit possible, despite the subject matter) on how to reform higher education. In ultra-short form, the idea is that by removing government direct funding universities can be induced to get rid of wasteful programs and overhead and focus on providing useful education. The definition of ‘useful’ of course depends on who’s doing the defining.

Yep, that’s why I opposed vouchers fifteen years ago and still do now. Vouchers is something that sounds nice but then when you really look at what the end goal is you see it for the rotten scheme it really is. It’s the RR’s way of destroying public schools and getting tax monies and students sent to them.

I always do laugh when the right accuses liberal academic institutions of being intolerant of other people’s opinions. I am not saying that it doesn’t happen but uh you have a case of Liberty University actually banning a College Democrats chapter, several Christian schools banning Gay Straight alliances, and my own alma mater Mason whose economics department is heavily helped by the Kochs and like minded individuals who have test prompts and questions that only require you to answer in a means that bashes the Obama administration. I met an economics major at the university who told me about a test question that was specifically “Why is the Stimulus bad?” when the question should have been something more like “Why or why not is the stimulus bad?” Right wingers got a fun habit of accusing the left of doing things they do time and time again.

India’s Heat Wave Deadliest In Over Three Decades, Death Toll Crosses 2,000

(snip)

Most of those who died in the calamity are believed to be daily wage laborers or old people suffering from sunstroke or dehydration. Hospitals in the country have reportedly been directed to provide emergency treatment to people suffering from heatstroke. State authorities have also set up water distribution points in affected areas. Although advisories have been issued warning people not to venture out, laborers and farmers struggling to make ends meet do not consider it a viable option.

“How do we cope up with the heat? We have to raise kids and so we have to work even though it’s hot. Otherwise what will our children eat?” Sunder, a 38-year-old bricklayer from city of Gurgaon in Haryana, told Reuters.

Meanwhile, the surge in consumption of electricity by air conditioners is causing frequent power cuts across the country. “If they cut power in the afternoon then it gets unbearably hot, and we also run into a water shortage since the overhead tanks can’t be refilled,” a resident of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, told Agence France-Presse (AFP). My opposition is proportionate to the quality of the public school system. Where those are solid schools whose students enjoy good solid scholastic results, we hardly have any need for vouchers or home schooling.

Where the public school system fails, I want those options on the books. My motivation is completely about enabling parents to have a good school at hand, or be able to adjust as required by circumstances.

Then make sure the options actually apply. Vouchers are a solution for parents, not schools. And vouchers are only a solution for parents when they cover ALL costs for school, not just tuition.

As it works out, where schools fail, it is in areas where spending per student is below other more successful schools, and it is an indirect, blunderbuss approach that has far more effects in others other than effectiveness in educating students.

India’s Heat Wave Deadliest In Over Three Decades, Death Toll Crosses 2,000

It should be noted, however, that the movie version of The Pentagon Wars (but not Burton’s book) leaves out the fact that a major reason for the redesign of the M2 Bradley in the 1970’s was the US Army’s evaluation of a Soviet-built BMP-1 captured from the Syrian Army by the IDF in 1973 and delivered to the US by Israel in the winter of 1974. The original specs for the Bradley were felt to be inferior to the BMP and it was felt that America needed something able to fight the BMP and win consistently.

And the M2 Bradley did ultimately meet that goal in 1991, as US Bradleys scored a lopsided kill ratio against Iraqi BMP-1s and 2s. But getting to that point likely could have been done better.

It’s like W’s faith based initiatives program. That too sounds nice when you look at it but when you see that these institutions want to still be able to discriminate people based on sexuality or whatever. If government is to subsidize private institutions, these institutions need to treat all people fairly.

I’ve seen very little evidence that the majority of private schools provide a better education than the public schools (obviously there are some exceptions). When the private schools refuse to allow testing to compare their students against others, you have to wonder about their motivation.

Much of the privatization push is about lining the pockets of the owners of private schools and not about improving education.

The other problem I have with private education is that it does not have a system in place to help students with learning disabilities. The public school system has the IEP which I have to say really did help me out in my middle and high school years out. Private schools just aren’t equipped to help children with learning disabilities. Now some of them do have smaller classes but I think the IEP helps more so because you special ed teachers who are good at dealing with children with learning disabilities. I still remember my struggle with seventh grade math. The regular math teacher wasn’t really a bad guy but I don’t think he could help kids like myself that had learning disabilities. The other teacher in the class though was and she helped me pass the class. That class was the closest I ever got to having to go to summer school.

Well, obviously, schools that can choose their students perform better than schools that are left with the students that weren’t wanted by the schools that can choose their students. Sort of goes without saying.

(sort of like… what makes Harvard grads so successful isn’t anything that happened for them at Harvard, it’s that Harvard has the luxury of only accepting students who already are/have the qualities that would make them successful no matter where they went to school.)

Where I live the spending per student is well above average among public systems, and the academic results are on a scale of chronic severe under funding. Really awful. The reasons are arguable, but all beside my point. IMO vouchers as i describe how they should be allowed are about the schools not parents. We have this other huge thing going on for those that afford it but can’t move or go private. I call it the other home schooling. It’s time and money spent on tutors undoing the damage done by the school that was attended earlier in the day. I don’t agree narrowing the options for parents to get better education is helpful at all. Not where I live.

But then we have those who can not afford tutors, the two income family in an expensive city like Los Angeles. Maybe a stay at home mom giving up the salary to be home for the kids.

And still many want a couple good options if regulated just reasonably well outlawed. i don’t share that baby with the bathwater approach.

Yeah my youngest brother just had a couple friends that got accepted into a private boarding school. I know public education has its problems but public education at least doesn’t ignore things like ADD, ADHD(I have a diagnosis), etc. I also don’t know if these private schools have speech therapy. Yes, this. I understand that funding doesn’t always fix the problems but I agree with you. The solution needs to be fixing the schools rather than just moving the students away and that the thought needs to be on the student body as a whole. We need to look at successful school districts and look at what has made them successful rather than just giving up on the schools. Plus when you close down the schools, you are also taking away jobs too I should add.

First things first-Leave parents options as open as possible until the schools are fixed. Why even locally do I hear louder more politically powerful cries against vouchers than I do to break up LAUSD? because LAUSD has very powerful friends in the legislature and among union leadership. Hand in glove. Suppliers and contractors like the big contracts that go with that great big system. IOW, the law of unintended consequences apply to EVERYONE.

I agree with everything you say, except that I think it is the law of INTENDED consequences.

Jonathan Kozol has written about the inequality of education for decades in books like “Savage Inequalities: Children in America’s Schools” and “Fire in the Ashes: Twenty-Five Years Among the Poorest Children in America.”

I’ll never forget when I was reading “Ordinary Resurrections,” which was one of his more hopeful books—and got into his direct interactions with kids in the South Bronx. I was sitting in a coffee shop while reading, and just burst into tears. People were staring at me, and asking me what was wrong. It was hard to explain that I was reading a non-fiction book about education.

The thing that has stayed with me all these years later, is one particular passage where he talks about business people coming into the schools to convince kids to train for specific jobs—not aspirational careers, but “make a living” type jobs. And doing it to young kids—more or less saying to them, “You’ll never be a doctor or an engineer, so start early and learn a trade.” So damn sad.

One of the Amazon reviews describes it pretty well: Stories shared indicate that expectations are set lower than other areas of the city and children’s dreams for the future are effectively stifled. They are encouraged to plan careers as hairdressers, nurse’s aides, or technicians, rather than professionals requiring a college degree. Kozol urges us not to impose “global preconceptions on a multitude of diverse personalities and motivations in a given group of’ children”.

Factoid—when creepy Bernie Goldberg wrote “100 People Who Are Screwing Up America,” Jonathan Kozol was his number nine. And factoid #2—Fred Rogers worked with Kozol a lot (one more reason to love Mr. Rogers.)

Your point about why LAUSD can’t be broken up is very well made, your point in the sentence I bolded even more so.

And it bears repeating that different educational systems in different parts of the US have different problems, and the person who says he or she has a near-universal education fix is either delusional or a liar. America’s a big and diverse country and its education solutions, such as they may be found, will be equally diverse.

I confess, I don’t exactly understand why the languages are such a problem. Children’s brains are incredibly language-malleable, it’s only grown-ups who can’t learn another. When my dad was a kid, half the students at his elementary school were from Yiddish-speaking homes, the other half were from Italian-speaking homes, he was a teenager before he ever met anybody whose parents spoke English, but school was entirely in English and the kids picked it up right quick.

Well, ESL has been mandated. A lot depends on, I suppose, the emphasis on having to speak English in a predominantly English speaking country in order to succeed, and that used to be the case. And we have a far more diverse immigration population today from all over the globe.

There wasn’t much emphasis on even taking a foreign language for “native” English speakers. I took Spanish because as a teen, I was around a lot of Cuban and Puerto Rican kids and it appealed to me (also took more of it 20 yrs later). We can’t simply go back to 60 yrs earlier, when I was an elem student, and demand that it’s a “sink or swim” situation anymore. And that literally was what it was. A lot of kids just dropped out before they even reached HS, with parents’ permission because they were needed (or wanted) to be earning money.

My mother and her siblings all graduated from HS, AFAIK, but only one made it to college. OTOH, my father only went as far as 8th grade, and after my mother died, didn’t really care if we finished HS or not. He simply wanted us out of the house when he felt we were old enough to make our own way.

But vouchers don’t solve their problems. They do reduce the pressure to fix the public schools, which are a necessity for the poor and middle class.

They reduce the pressure on the public and reduce some pressure on the politicians to fix the schools, but the most problematic group out RWC’s way is the teacher’s union and vouchers do increase pressure on a teachers union in the same way US assembly plants for Honda and Toyota put pressure on the UAW: Either the union finds a way to produce greater value in its labor or it sees its membership and power erode as the public takes its money elsewhere.

Note: The above applies to LA, but should not be read as universal. Places like Mississippi might indeed be unable to make such a system work for religious and social (read race-relations reasons).

The well off ought not even qualify for a voucher. As I described them wholly unlike the abuses of other areas, they support the poor and lower middle by helping prevent the under education K-10 of their kids. When they do get to a better school, it does indeed reduce or remove the problem of under education.

Improve the schools and you get fewer voucher applications.

The big rock show in Las Vegas???

I thought the absolute biggest rock show was tonight in Ohio Stadium, “The Shoe” when the Rolling Stones take the stage.

Why, even Mike Jagger tweeted local Columbus media saying they were looking forward to being in the largest venue they will be playing this tour.

By the way, weather seems like it could be iffy tonight. Stones might get a wet crowd. Tickets were still available too, so that might ding walk-up buyers.

I imagine they could pack 100,000 plus in there, but I doubt it will be that big. You never know though…it the Stones.

re: #256 wrenchwench

But vouchers don’t solve their problems. They do reduce the pressure to fix the public schools, which are a necessity for the poor and middle class.

You know what else is sad. The whole private schools and voucher thing is only workable in a big city or large metro area. At least that seems to be the case.

What happens to the small towns that are already down and struggling? No one is going to be quick to set up a charter school in a depressed small town.

And Ohio has many of them. And they have always had a funding problem. Many years ago the Ohio Supreme courts found in favor of New Lexington schools that the method of funding public schools in Ohio was unconstitutional and needs to be fixed.

I think that was in ‘95 or so. Still no fix. All the politicians have turned a blind eye to finding a solution. In the meantime, hey look charter schools…that’ll be cool.

And here in Columbus, the charter schools in some cases didn’t last too long, forcing kids last minute shifts to another school because the one they were going to go to shut down. Funny thing. They seem to be doing better as a concept in the richer communities than in the poorer. Just like the public schools.

I know what you’re doing and venting on people who aren’t the authors of the problems you face is not a solution. Believe me, I used to do that myself, and even now I’ve caught myself doing it and had to change course. However less bad you end up feeling, attacking someone for being something others know they are not makes you look like an asshole, just like it made me look like an asshole. It’s not fair to the target and it’s not worth the social blowback you suffer from doing it.

You’ve said you want romance and you want more friends. If so, you gotta stop lashing out like that. It not only annoys others, but it scares them as well, since they know the target of the attack doesn’t deserve it. Please, PLL, for your own sake, calm down and think about what you’re doing.

We found one and the bartender was from Slovakia. I mentioned my grandmother’s folks having emigrated from there and she just loved that since I think so many Americans mix up Slovenia and Slovakia which amuses me being Slovene as well. I just don[‘t see why it’s such a big deal. I mean I’ve seen the arguments now like ketchup being too sweet to put on meat but I like it. Condiments are kind of funny to think about it though. French fries and ketchup. Dipping tomato sauce into potatoes. I remember reading the the original ketchup was a fish sauce more originally and Americans played a big role in making it tomatoey.

You are saying the same thing as the friend in DC. She is also saying that there are many Republicans and Democrats that are friends in DC, and wishes that I could see that.

Actually, the more I think about it the worse I feel. When she came out and said she was Republican, I immediately accused her of wanting Muslims killed. And since then, every few weeks, I lash out at her for something a Republican on the national stage has done. And yet, she would like me to come to DC.

Well, Fox has let Megyn Kelly take guests to the woodshed at times so perhaps that’s the Duggars’ plan: Being chastised by Kelly on-air as a act of public penance. They can’t expect her to go lightly on them, since she’s a mother of a girl herself. Which is why its Jim Bob and Michelle Ms. Kelly will be interviewing: If she caught sight of their eldest son right now she’d likely carve a ‘P’ onto his forehead with whatever she had to hand.

I think you guys could have a hot dog more enjoyably together than either of you could with me since you both would be calling me a heathen since I’m in team Ketchup when it comes to hot dogs and I make no apologies about that hahaha though I must say, I had a layover at Midtown and those Maxwell Street sausages you guys have are to die for.

It’s probably treason for me to say this but:

I cut my hot dogs up and dip each piece in ketchup before eating them.

But I seldom have eaten a hot bog these part two years. Chicago hot dogs are made of beef, and my gout means I’ve had to cut my beef intake back.

re: #329 HappyWarrior

Yeah I’m sorry. I know it’s heresy to Chicagoans but I like it on my dog.

Hey, I grew up in Texas, so I give you a plus one for the ketchup kurve.

I tease. Mrs Cranky likes ketchup on hot dogs and pineapple on pizza. I love her anyway, despite her heresies.

That sucks.
But I hear ya.
My acid reflux goes haywire when I have beef.
So, less beef here too.
Sigh.

Hope your health gets better. I was just teasing you and Arthur since everyone I’ve ever met from Chicago insists no ketchup and gives me the old stink eye if I think it’s a good idea. I like trying different methods though.

I hate reality TV.

I’m not in Chicago, so it’s no sweat off my back. I still don’t get the pickle.

That was my side-eye of “where can you hook me up with some of that stuff :D”

342 HappyWarrior  May 30, 2015 11:34:19am

I actually realized recently that my problem isn’t with the pickle on the burger at McD’s. It’s that the pickles they use stink and have no crunch. Got some deli pickles the other day and used them on my burger the other night and they enhanced it.

Ohhhhhhhh gotcha. But yeah I do what I call a tricolor-hot dog. Kethcup, deli mustard, and relish. Now my one thing is I am definitely a strong supporter of team deli mustard over regular yellow mustard. The latter just doesn’t do it for me.

Deli Mustard and yellow mustard? Please. This debate doesn’t need to happen. Deli Mustard ftw!

re: #325 BeachDem

And, if only he were not running for president, Huckabee could provide a musical accompaniment for the bullshit.

He’s the only presidential candidate who’ll talk to them at this point. Rick Santorum cut off any association with them, saying he was disgusted by Josh Duggar’s actions. Of course, I’m pretty sure that Rick Santorum has a daughter near in age to the girls Josh victimized at the time of his gross misdeeds, so his reaction was that of a father not that of a politician.

Note: The above isn’t praise of Rick Santorum. His reaction to josh Duggar being outer as a child molester is the normal and appropriate one, so having it wins a person no points (it just means they don’t lose any for trying to weasel).

My son, who will be 56 this year, developed gout. He’s having to cut back on his beef, also, as well as his beer. And he’s a grillin’ steaks on the weekend kind of guy and lounging w/a beer watching sports. Otherwise, he’s a hard working guy who even walks his dog around the neighborhood. Still pretty trim at his age.

Technically speaking, Santorum is disgusted with the allegations against Josh Dugger. He hasn’t completely disassociated himself with the actions as yet.
And, since Josh admits to it, they really aren’t “allegations” anymore.

That’s a fine point, but one worth noting. Although it won’t amount to much since as you also noted Duggar’s admitted to it his wrongdoing and (I just saw today) is moving back to Arkansas in disgrace.

Take a couple tablespoons of ketchup and then add in two teaspoons of worcestershire sauce. Boom! Fake A1 steak sauce.

Add a bit of horseradish and now we’re talking SAUCY!

The big rock show in Las Vegas???

I thought the absolute biggest rock show was tonight in Ohio Stadium, “The Shoe” when the Rolling Stones take the stage.

Twisted’s first show since their drummer died. I’m photographing it for the web site. Also, some R&R for a weekend.

We went to the ‘Pawn Stars’ pawn shop for the heck of it. They wanted $10 grand for a completely beat ‘66 Telecaster. It must be nice to charge roughly twice fair market value because you’re on TV.

Also, the shop is way smaller than it looks on TV.

re: #322 The War TARDIS

I do have a culture war mindset. So I see it as that one is on one side or the other. The other side being bad.

It may help to stick to provable truths.

For example, if someone votes Republican, it is not reasonable to conclude that they personally want to see Muslims killed.

What is true is that voting GOP (especially at the Federal level) is a vote to increase the political power of GOP extremists who do want Muslims killed, and the political power of GOP enablers who would look the other way as the extremists do their thing.
