Accidental assholism? I think not. This was intentional.

Sorry, but that’s absurd. You can’t excuse this by saying he was “on autopilot.” Absolute bullshit. He knew what he was saying.

But that’s going to be the media take, because they need to keep the horse race going at all costs.

I mention in the last thread how John Kasich mentioned Joe Biden on Meet the Press last Sunday. Here is the link to MTP online and the complete show.

On the video you can see 6 segments (one tiny). Go to the 5th segment at the start to catch Kasich. The mention of Biden is right at the start.

He lost his parents in a car crash too so he has that in common with Biden. Good on him though, I will never vote for him but he has some decency which is more than you can say about the others mostly.

Back for a second to Ted Cruz, low-life, repulsive creep. Even on a good day, his “joke” is idiotic and not funny. And oh so typical of right wing “humor.”

As to the Duggars—until recently, I never even knew any of their proper names—just that they were fundie fanatics with a boatload of kids and a reality show—ah yes, the halcyon days of yesteryear.

She does look nuts.

Usually I’m all “let’s not make their bad behavior a pathology”…but this time I’m given pause. I still don’t think it’s as simple as individual pathology—your standard delusion/anxiety axes of disturbance—though. It’s more like shared delusion as described by “When Prophecy Fails”: the beliefs and behaviors have let someone feel complete and meaningful, and therefore they cling to it. This Gothard stuff strikes me as having a bunch of features that creates folie a deux: the husband leading, the wife accepting the delusion.

Just before this broke I did binge read of Scientology exposes, and it’s hard not to make the comparison between ATI, Quvierfull , and the former. All of the thought-stopping behaviors, the demand for greater and greater isolation from broader culture, the basic selling point that the revealed knowledge has made you better and more holy/pure/wise than others. And most importantly, that with in-group power comes a right to exercise arbitrary control over underlings, which is then retroactively (in in-group rhetoric) explained as right and just.

Those are some really good points about cult-like behaviors in extreme religious sects.

The point I’d like to add is that there is a continuum here, where this kind of cult-like behavior (in less extreme forms), is much more common than one might think. For example, the collective delusions of the wingnuts are very much in this pattern.

I think Fox is trying to cover the asses of all the candidates who’ve been photographed with Josh and they’ll use the Christian persecution spin among others to downplay the whole story.

As for TLC, they’d like to keep the show going, but only if the ratings support good ad dollars. Some companies have already withdrawn advertising, so I suspect the show’s fate is really in the hands of folks contacting advertisers.

re: #108 b.d.

It’s a two parter?

That’s what Bob Cesca said in his Twitter feed. Part 2 on friday. I didn’t watch.

Actually, I think we’re seeing a component of the wingnut worldview: they really believe that the rest of the world is so dark a black in color that their own misdeeds are minor.

“Our son touched up his sister? Well I’ve heard that that’s nothing compared to what happens elsewhere…so we’re still the Righteous people who can be judgemental.”

re: #104 Charles Johnson

Let’s say, no reputable lawyer who cares about his or her standing with the bar. Because bringing a frivolous lawsuit and getting tossed out on summary judgment has consequences for attorneys.

Larry Klayman or Matt Staver are probably inured to it….

They use Caitlyn Jenner on the cover of Vanity Fair as a counterexample.

Wait, was this interview LIVE?

123 Gus  Jun 3, 2015 7:26:26pm

I had 1.39 million Twitter impressions in the past 28 days. Down 27.1%. Was just followed by Melissa Peterman who had a small role in Fargo.

re: #114 Eric The Fruit Bat

That won’t stop Larry Klayman-he thrives these on these kinds of lawsuits.

Sorry, didn’t refresh fast enough. :-)

Didn’t know about Matt Staver-have to look him up. At least Klayman’s knocked on SCOTUS’s door.

re: #78 A Cranky One

Charles watched the interview. We should probably check on him regularly for an hour to make sure he’s okay and there are no lasting effects.

I’m watching the Stanley Cup finals instead. Better for the blood pressure.

LOL

:-D

Wait, was this interview LIVE?

From this article (money.cnn.com) it looks like the interview was taped earlier today and then aired.

Which raises the interesting question of how FoxNews top brass could look at this and think it good propaganda for their cause.

Ed Brayton at Dispatches from the Culture Wars always refers to Larry Klayman as: “The dumbest lawyer in America not named Matt Staver” and to Matt Staver as: “The dumbest lawyer in America not named Larry Klayman”.

Staver takes on “Christian persecution” cases, and usually loses.

Man, everything i’m seeing regarding the Duggar interview is making even the most RWNJ-supporting members of my digital social circles go nuts with disgust and anger (glad I’m not coming anywhere near that dreck myself, all the more so if it’s bad enough to drive them mad). Seems Faux News finally went too far…

Just exactly what I said might happen earlier today

littlegreenfootballs.com

Isn’t FOX walking a very fine line here?

First, are they prepared to throw cops under the bus for releasing a report that had to my understanding be released due to disclosure laws. I read where all the names were redacted but everyone in the media and friends of the family put two and two together and knew who the perp and victims were.

Second, there are going to be FOX viewers who are very family protective themselves of their children that might not like FOX softballing this whole story.

I am hoping Charles puts up the video of the interview. I sure as hell am not turning on FOX News.

Had to come and read some of the play by play…when I logged out earlier I done forgot about the interview.

After I became familiar with her on Reba, it took me a while to realize she was one of the hookers in Fargo. “Go Bears!”

Wait—did Megyn Kelly actually go to their house to do the interview? How very thoughty of Fox to allow them to remain in their natural habitat. (can’t watch—will puke.)

Well, it is built for TV broadcast, by TLC. Easy setup.

“heart had gone astray..”

typical Evangelical excuse-making and playing down horrific criminal behavior within the family. The word entitlement doesn’t even come close to describing the sense of superiority these people have over society, civilization…in their nomenclature, “the world”.

“Senator Ted Cruz,” I say to faint laughter. “You know the nice thing? You don’t need a punch line.”

Besides the obvious bad taste, why is he campaigning by making fun of the current VP, who in all probability will be leaving public life in January 2017?

A: Because Republicans have nothing positive to run on, so most of their strategy is to make Democrats look bad/scary/whatever.
