Our Sarah Palin Poetry Slam of the Day

The Duggar debate needs to shift from solely the boy’s obvious wrongdoing
Weird • Views: 46,608

Sarah Palin has posted another monumental wall of authentic wingnut gibberish at Facebook, and we like to turn these half-witted screeds into impressionistic free verse because it’s funny! Really, it is!

Imagine Sarah in a smoky club filled with bearded beatniks snapping their fingers instead of clapping, intoning these precious words in her halting, randomly emphasized cadence.

HEY LENA!
A Sarah Palin joint

HEY LENA

WHY NOT LAUGH OFF
EVERYONE’S SEXUAL “EXPERIMENTS”
AS YOU HAUGHTILY ENJOY
REWARDS FOR YOUR OWN PERVERSION?

YOU PEDOPHILE,
YOU

Radical liberals
in media who have
total control over public narratives
are disgusting hypocrites,
so says my daughter.

Go get ‘em, Bristol!
Read her post!

I’m glad
someone’s got the guts
to call out these perverts.

The intolerant left’s destructive personal intrusions
and narrow-mindedness
applied to their chosen targets
are bad enough,
but their double standards
are
beyond the pale.

I’m not defending
the Duggar boy’s obvious wrongdoing

over a decade ago.

The main victim in any story like this
isn’t the perpetrator,
it’s the innocent ones
so harmfully affected.

I’m not an apologist for any sexual predator,
BUT
I’m sickened that the media gives
their chosen ones
a pass
for any behavior
as long as
they share
their leftwing politics.

Case in point,
they suggest
Lena Dunham’s
sexual assault on her sibling
is cute,

and she’s rewarded for it
with fame and fortune.

Meanwhile,
they crucify another,
along with an entire family.

The Duggar debate
needs to shift
from solely the boy’s obvious wrongdoing

when he was 14 years old

to now include:

The media’s hell-bent mission
to go after
the entire Duggar family
for one member’s wrongdoing,

while giving a total pass
to perverted actions
of someone like Lena Dunham

or any other leftwinger celeb
caught doing awful things.

Such obvious double standards
applied to equally relevant stories
underestimate the wisdom
of the public,
discredit the press,
and spit on the graves
of every American
who fought and died
for the press’s freedom.

And,
for what it’s worth,
“Welcome to my world;
believe me
what doesn’t kill you
makes you stronger!”

[wild finger snapping applause]

She must be talking about the Duggars.

If Dunham’s misdeeds hadn’t been even further in the past and Josh Duggar hadn’t himself enjoyed fame & fortune, she STILL wouldn’t have anything close to a point here.

Once again, thank the deities, random forces, or human actors of your choice that:
A. John McCain lost
B. He is alive and well to this day.

5 Kragar  Jun 4, 2015 6:35:04pm

Remember when Dunham built a career out of demonizing innocent people as child molesters and went around telling everyone how morally superior her family was because they were “Good Christians”?

6 HappyWarrior  Jun 4, 2015 6:35:04pm

She really shows again that she was probably the worst choice ever made for VP by a major party in US history. She insists on trying to MBF this but it shows again why despite the fact that she tries to claim she’s “independent” that she’s a pathetic hack. For fuck sake Sarah, what would you say if these were your daughters and you know damn well that you would be on the attack if the Duggars were staunch liberals.

And it completely ignores the fact that most people are more horrified by the parents who did nothing to protect their daughters than they are by the 14 year old who clearly needed a serious intervention.

Ha and remember when Lena Dunham belonged to a branch of Christianity that makes women subservient to men. Sarah can play this pathetic game all she wants but all it is showing me is that she actually looks worse than Mike Huckabee in this conversation at this time.

But that denies us this wisdom for the ages:

I hate for anyone to go through this game liberals are allowed to play, relentlessly attacking on an uneven playing field until a conservative’s career, relationships, and reputation are destroyed. To the media’s targets I encourage, “Rise above by never claiming ‘victim’, tell the truth, and keep the faith!”

Edited to add: It appears that Palin is recommending that conservatives not claim to be ‘victims’. The mind boggles.

She really truly honestly is one of the worst people I’ve ever seen in politics. When I saw her tweet earlier, at that time I was reading a NPR story about Joe Biden’s speech at Yale for its commencement and in that speech Biden even managed to humanize Jesse Helms. I can’t imagine Sarah Palin giving a speech anywhere saying a nice thing about a liberal let alone one that would have the notoriety in conservative circles that Helms does in liberal ones. He also had some nice things to say about George W. Bush too. I know many of you did not vote Obama the first time and I won’t begrudge you that but I am still proud of that vote. I am proud that I early saw through this woman for the mean spirited person she is.

These are the words of someone who truly does feel the need to make everything a partisan battle. When I first heard about the Duggar story, my response was as an uncle not a liberal. Seems to me that Palin and many conservatives are responding to this story as conservative Christians first and not parents, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, or whatever.

Mocking Sarah Palin for the word salad is just light entertainment. My main beef with her is that ‘real America’ bullshit she was using as red meat in the 2008 election. Divisive un-American crap.

29 HappyWarrior  Jun 4, 2015 6:49:04pm

I’ve never forgiven her for that. She had probably never been to my state in her whole life and she had the nerve to talk about how glad she was to be in “real Virginia” when in a bright red Republican part of the state. Biden not long after pretty much called her out on it. Really never has there been such a stark difference in humanity when we saw between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin. It’s something to think about next time you see someone in politics who has been there a long time derided as a “career politician.”

32 HappyWarrior  Jun 4, 2015 6:54:55pm

I actually do wish she would run for president some day for a simple reason. So she could actually be held accountable for the nasty bullshit she’s done since McCain picked her for VP. The lies about how liberals hate her because she didn’t abort her son with Downs. The lies about the death panels. The pathetic claims that criticizing her is a blood libel after a Congresswoman was shot in a district that she had used violent rhetoric in. The using divisive rhetoric time and time again. So please do run for president some day Sarah and you’ll find out why you’ll never be admired like President Obama or Vice President Biden.

No, I don’t want to see Sarah Palin run for President. She would end up doing a bit worse than Romney in the electoral college (NC would likely go (D), and perhaps also GA, AZ and MO going by 2012 margins).

I don’t think such an election would serve to expose her viciousness to many people that weren’t already aware of it.

Lena is female, is successful, is a liberal, has portrayed an unmarried female character having sex on the TV, written a book, made money, and in that book admitted to touching her little sister in her private areas once or twice.

It’s hard to judge which of those accomplishments bothers the Right most.

Perhaps some of the desperation comes from the realization that patriarchal cults like the Duggars provide both ideological cover and ease of access for abusers. Anyone that goes looking for other such cases in these cults is likely to find abuse entirely too often.

64 klys (maker of Silmarils)  Jun 4, 2015 7:22:27pm

As far as I am concerned, the response to Lena is separate from the response to Josh.

There is a tendency on both sides to circle the wagons when the other side attacks. That is something we should all be aware of and set aside as necessary to deal with the actual facts. And the actual facts are that while it may not necessarily have fallen under the umbrella of clear abuse, what Lena described in her book is sufficient to make many people, myself included, uncomfortable.

NONE OF THIS excuses what Josh did or what his parents did, and for someone to hold it up means that playing political games is much more important to them than protecting children. Full stop. That is not what should be. I don’t give a flying fuck what the political orientation of the abuser is, if someone is doing things to a child that they know, even somewhat, are wrong, I don’t want to support that. Period.

She’s always been a hypocrite as a mother. She complains about Rahm Emanuel saying “retard” in private conversation but defended Limbaugh when he said it on the airwaves. I certainly don’t condone Rahm’s use of it but Sarah’s response to Rahm using it off camera versus Limbaugh saying it on illustrates that she’s always been a double standarded hack.

It has been said of the “Jesus” of the NT that he is whatever someone needs him to be. I.e., that the need exists and thus something is invented to fill that need.

I feel likewise about Snowden now. Snowden is whatever someone needs him to be. So much is being projected upon him that simply can’t fit the real reasons why any one person does what he does.

In this case the NYT needs to run an editorial about surveillance in modern society, so they found someone to write it whose name can be recognized by a wider audience. Any legal scholar in some dusty university could write an editorial on the subject, as well as any intelligence specialists, but those authors would be obscure and not result in web hits.

Just because Sarah Palin makes me think of it: I almost - almost - think that Megyn Kelly did the correct thing in the Duggar interview by tossing up softballs. Because just like Sarah Palin, they would have cut and run if you pushed them, but if you let them keep talking and being themselves you get to see who they really are. If the Duggars though for a second that they’d face hostile questioning they never would have agreed to an interview at all, but just seeing them be them has told us all more than enough.

I know. Optimistic of me. I can’t credit Megyn Kelly with being that shrewd. And yet, somehow, it’s true.

Even if she doesn’t get the world title, I predict she’s going to get tons of offers for modeling and product endorsement gigs. She’s not only beautiful, but from a marketing standpoint, her features can appeal to people all over the world.

In a perfect world where people were rational, that might work. But in the current political climate, it’s exactly the opposite. There are a whole lot of right wingers today who are more devoted to the Duggars than ever — they saw this interview VERY differently from you and I. To these people, it confirmed that Christians are under attack, and the Duggars are blameless, godly people who are being wrongly smeared by the liberal media.

I just can’t believe in the absolute free speech model any more, after years of dealing with what it means in the real world.

96 A Cranky One  Jun 4, 2015 7:55:38pm

My ex was the oldest of six kids; her mom also had 7 miscarriages. In that environment, the oldest kids raised the youngest, because her mom was often in poor health and unable to properly care for the young ones.

You know that the same thing is true of the Duggars. This means that in addition to being a sibling, Josh was in many respects acting as a parent to the younger kids. To me, that makes his betrayal and abuse even worse, since he was taking advantage of a position of power and trust to abuse his sisters.

And this is what I view as one of the biggest failures of the Duggars. There is no way they are giving each child appropriate attention and guidance and love. Instead, much of the parenting is being done by other kids who may feel resentment at being given that role and certainly don’t have the maturity or experience to be proper parents. As evidenced by Josh’s behavior.

I made a point of supporting my kids in every way possible, attending every band concert, every choir concert, every ball game, etc. And with only 3 kids it was often a challenge when also dealing with work and home responsibilities. Of course, the Duggars home school, so the kids can’t take advantage of such resources such as band, sports teams, etc. and if they do, you know the parents just physically can’t show real support by attending all the events.

I think the family is all about Jim Bob’s ego and selfish desires and the rest of the family suffers because of it. Pity they’ve never known anything else and so don’t know how they are being hurt and neglected.

It’s such a terrible shame.

In Touch Magazine, the outlet that broke the story about Josh Duggar’s prior molestation charges, released an extensive report today rebutting many of the claims his parents made during their poorly-received interview with Megyn Kelly.

All told, In Touch found seven contradictions made by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, ranging from lies by omission to misleading statements to flat-out lies.

For instance, Jim Bob said that the police officer who took Josh’s case — Jim Hutchens, later convicted on child pornography charges — had been randomly assigned. “We didn’t know anything about this guy except he was an officer there for the headquarters,” he told Kelly.

Hutchens, now serving a 56-year prison sentence, told In Touch otherwise:

He said he knew Jim Bob well from his job and had even taught a couple of classes to car dealerships with him. In addition, Hutchens — who was not promised anything in return for his interview and told only that it was part of an investigation — said that Jim Bob specifically sought him out to talk to Josh.

Asked who initially contacted him for the meeting, Hutchens said: “Jim Bob did.” He then explained: “He called me by phone - he just said he needed to talk with me about a matter, he didn’t explain what he got there.” That interview was conducted before Jim Bob’s comments were aired.

I have little doubt that this is the case. Not just because, duh, how does someone sleep thru that but also considering the violent environment they were raised in. See blanket training. Pain for making waves is all they’ve known and Josh was stand-in daddy to whom their obedience was demanded. That’s the view from their side.

From Josh’s side? He’s still young and not sure of his authority with the older girls so he waits until he thinks they’re unconscious. The 5 year he figures is too young to tell.

Someone mentioned to me today that all of the squealing from the Duggar freaks and their molester defenders about ZOMG ILLEGAL RECORDS RELEASE only makes sense if there was something else that got handed over to InTouch that hasn’t been mentioned yet. Maybe whatever it was ended up being fuzzy math in terms of FOIA legality, so InTouch has wisely kept it under wraps while they pursue whatever was in that extra bit through legitimate investigations.

I could see that being the case. I suspect this is only going to get worse for the Duggars before it gets better.

120 Targetpractice  Jun 4, 2015 8:58:22pm

I made the mistake of reading some of the comments for the Mediaite story. The new fallback position is that, even if InTouch was totally within the bounds of the law, it published the identities of the victims. Except it didn’t, those portions of the reports are redacted. The only thing published was identifying characteristics. In fact, it’s the family who has offered up the identities of two of the victims just so they can parade them around as “victimized” by the press.

It was a productive storm, as far as tornadoes.

You can see here Eric Treece filming one of them; then as it pulls up (and gets too close) he hightails it out of there (and you can skip to 13:10 mark) where he catches another one, then an update on it and then finally a vortex that didn’t quite make it:

re: #120 Targetpractice

I made the mistake of reading some of the comments for the Mediaite story. The new fallback position is that, even if InTouch was totally within the bounds of the law, it published the identities of the victims. Except it didn’t, those portions of the reports are redacted. The only thing published was identifying characteristics. In fact, it’s the family who has offered up the identities of two of the victims just so they can parade them around as “victimized” by the press.

Yep. From Max Brantley, the Arkansas Times writer who has been right on top of both Duggar and Harris (the re-homing scumbag), on Megyn Kelly raising the legality issue:

Kelly is wrong. Multiple lawyers agree with me. These are NOT juvenile records. They are records of a police report of criminal activity. The names of the offender and victim were redacted before the report was released because they were juveniles. The police acted legally. Indeed, Josh Duggar himself has identified himself and now the Duggars have put forward their daughters as victims, though they had not been named in media reports.

Debate over tenure roils UW Board of Regents

With angry faculty members from several campuses looking on, a committee of University of Wisconsin System regents voted Thursday to go along with the intent of Republican legislative leaders in broadening the reasons in which tenured faculty can be dismissed.

In a nutshell, regents appointed by Gov. Scott Walker voted not to ask lawmakers to reconsider the plan approved last Friday by the Joint Finance Committee to take tenure out of state law. The idea, first floated in Walker’s budget proposal, is to give the UW System more flexibility to run campuses as it sees fit — and in the process, have broader ability to hire and fire. The GOP plan spells out that tenured faculty and indefinite-term staff could be laid off or terminated with proper notice “when deemed necessary due to a budget or program decision regarding program discontinuance, curtailment, modification, or redirection.”

Regents appointed by Gov. Jim Doyle — joined by Tony Evers, who is a regent based on his position as state superintendent — tried unsuccessfully to pass a motion calling on the Legislature to back off. They see the action as watering down tenure, and as lethal to the notion of academic freedom, not to mention the ability of Wisconsin campuses to attract the best and brightest faculty.

The full Legislature still must take action on the GOP plan as part of budget deliberations for the new fiscal year starting July 1. But with Republicans in charge at the Capitol, the plan is expected to be adopted.

Yeah, that’s rather disgusting - there’s more about here:

Eight men are reported to have escaped justice following the secret trial, despite all of the accused supposedly being given 25-year sentences.

A senior security source in Pakistan accused officials of lying over the convictions and said the eight were released “quietly, to avoid a media fuss”.

The source told the Daily Mirror: “The trial had absolutely no credibility as nobody was there to witness it but a public prosecutor, a judge, the army and the accused.

“This was a tactic to get the media pressure away from the Malala case because the whole world wanted convictions for the crime.”

Meanwhile, for those Lizards following the unfolding FIFA scandal, there’s this. Looks like Jack Warner, the former VP of FIFA, is threatening to sing like a canary.

Former Fifa vice president Jack Warner today revealed he feared for his life as he threatened a new “avalanche” of revelations about the corruption scandal engulfing world football.

Warner, one of 14 leading officials and executives facing corruption charges brought by the US authorities, said he had compiled a “comprehensive and detailed series of documents including cheques and corroborated statements” about Fifa’s funding.

These included evidence of “international transactions” at Fifa involving Blatter and other senior world football officials. Warner, 73 — the subject of an Interpol “wanted person” alert — also alleged that he could prove links between Fifa and the 2010 elections in Trinidad and Tobago, adding: “I will no longer keep secrets for persons who will actively destroy this country’s hard-won international image.”

The title more or less means “Petty Crimes in the Big City” - it’s a tough one to translate. The episode is about (at the time) illegal currency swapping. Sadly, there’s no English subtitles, but the story’s sort of easy enough to follow.

I’ve been promoting Bernie Sanders here lately, snowball’s chance or no. I don’t agree with everything he does or says, of course. A case in point is his call for amnesty for Edward Snowden.

In truth, I might favor a conditional offer of immunity for Snowden and the Ecuadorian embassy’s resident ghost, Julian Assange. The condition would be that they have something juicy enough on Russian disinformation efforts in the States and are willing to share it. I would even throw in a commutation for the otherwise worthless Chelsea Manning if that would help. Assnugget would still have to face the Swedes on his own though. Snowden must be getting homesick by now and he must know that he could collect megabucks in speaking fees if he came back a free man. Of course, getting him past his Russian minders would be a serious problem in tradecraft but not insurmountable if some of his western visitors can pass messages and serve as witnesses.

Nungesser was cleared of charges by Columbia, wasn’t he? And the claims by 2 others who claimed they were his victims were also dismissed.

All four cases against PN (incl. one with a gay male accuser) were ultimately dismissed by the U commission, BUT for different reasons. E.g. in case of “Adam” there seem to have been significant discrepancies to the story he told, so his testimony might have been plain not credible.

Whereas with “Josie” the commission at first found that PN was guilty of grabbing her, then later overturned the verdict on a technicality (“Josie” stopped participating during the appeal), so these two decisions to dismiss have a different epistemological value. “Josie” seems to be more credible than “Adam”.

In the end it’s not clear what happened. But whether or not Sulkowicz was a rape victim, what she does is plain creepy.

A good punishment for Josh Duggar? Since as a young teen, Josh fondled girls, which could damage their trust of men, which could damage their future marriage, which could damage their future family, we should make Josh Duggar work the rest of his life to help families stay together and help them recognize how twisted the world is and how God offers instruction on how to live righteously! He should be forced to push faith, family and freedom in the public showing the Christian worldview has the answers.
We should force him to get a job at the Family Research Council* whose mission is “to advance faith, family and freedom in public policy and the culture from a Christian worldview.”
That would be a great punishment!

What were we saying earlier about the death of nuance and irony in today’s political/cultural discourse?

214 Justanotherhuman  Jun 5, 2015 4:08:05am

Sex is a very personal activity. A mature person decides what kinds of sexual activity he/she will engage in and doesn’t push it when a partner’s desires are known to him or her.

Deciding after the fact that one doesn’t particularly like a certain sexual activity, esp one that involves a certain level of violence, doesn’t necessary rise to the level of “rape” among consenting adults. In an age where any kind of activity appears to be permitted by those involved, it would seem to me that a different level of consciousness about what a person wants is more important than ever.

For instance, if one isn’t interested in anal sex or has had it and decided one doesn’t like it, why give in when your partner wants it? Sexual compatibility is important, and it’s not an “all or nothing” game and it works both ways—for women and men.

One thing that’s being discovered is that in the age of porn and its avid consumption by the public, more and more men are requiring more and more types of sexual activity from women. Even teens viewing porn want their girlfriends to “perform like a porn star”. But that isn’t what constitutes a relationship, and it does nothing to help a woman make up her own mind about what she really is comfortable with sexually, and I think for many women, it’s a demand and expectation they don’t want to engage in and they should say as much, not engage in it for the benefit of a partner alone and not pursue their own resistance verbally. And if this is what’s happening and being claimed as “rape”, then the complainant has no idea what rape really means Consent means consent and if you’re not sure, don’t do it. And men shouldn’t push further than a woman allows nor make demands she’s not willing to engage in. That’s not “sweet talk”—that’s coercion.

Chuckie has been uncharacteristically quiet about that possibility. Normally, when someone accuses him of doing something shady, he denies everything and retaliates. When he has done something he’s especially proud of, he brags about it everywhere. Of course, without Twitter, he can’t crow as incessantly as before, but so far his only response has been a muted confirmation that he ID’d the right woman on Facebook and his blog. He flat refused to answer any questions from Buzzfeed’s reporter (the one who was impersonated) and never responded to my emailed ones.

All this, plus the coincidental chronology of events, would lead any rational person to suspect he did it, or at least knows who did it.

Exclusive: Alleged Dennis Hastert Sex Abuse Victim Is Named By Family

abcnews.go.com

In Steve Reinboldt’s 1970 high school yearbook, wrestling coach Dennis Hastert wrote that Steve was his “great, right hand man” as the student equipment manager of the Yorkville, Illinois wrestling team.

But Steve was also a victim of sexual abuse at the hands of Hastert, Steve’s sister said today in an interview with ABC News. As In Touch notes, the file was obtained legally, with the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette already writing that claims otherwise are “disputed by the law enforcement agencies involved, the Arkansas Press Association and attorneys with expertise in public-document cases involving the state’s Freedom of Information Act.”

According to John Tull, a Little Rock attorney who specializes in public-record cases, “They had to release the reports. Those records are not closed under FOI. The alleged perpetrator had attained his majority at the time it was released, and once his name and all the victims’ names were blacked out, it was subject to FOI.”

That would make sense. Especially if you consider the intensity of the fighting along the Gustav Line and Casino. Plus there were far more victims of German retaliation than when they were nominally allied. Last, ISTR that units of the Italian Army fought alongside Allied Forces and performed far more effectively (though at greater cost) than they did during the African campaigns. I’ll have to get out a copy of Rick Atkinson’s “The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943-1944” again - best single volume on Italy I’ve found.

New Wyoming Law Criminalizes Photography On “Open Land” Outside City Limits

Intending to stop do-gooders from collecting soil samples and other potentially harmful information on agriculture practices harmful to the environment, the Wyoming legislature passed the Data Trespass Bill, which makes it crime to take photographs on “open land” outside the city…

…The Wyoming law would be reprehensible enough were it applied only to Captain Planet and Planeteers out collecting soil samples to force government agencies to police farms in violation of the law. However, the potential infringement of the First Amendment right to photography in public makes the Data Trespass law especially treacherous.

“Over and over again I’ve seen promises by politicians that legislation is not going to be used in X, Y, or Z way but it doesn’t play out that way,” investigative journalist Will Potter told VICE News. “Once you put laws like this on the books they can be pushed to their limits.”

Here in Ostrava, there’s a memorial to those who died in the Allied air raids in 1944. Ostrava was a major industrial center under the Nazi-era ‘Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia’ so, of course, it became a target. The area that was hit isn’t all that far from me - Vitkovice district, near Mirove namesti, about three miles away or so.

What they didn’t know until recently is that the young Army private from western New York died while in captivity, one of thousands of Americans to die in Japanese hands after the fall of the Philippines in 1942.

The casualty numbers also went up starting in 1944 as that was when the numbers of Allied bombers built-up, they got effective fighter escort, and also started working over lesser targets.

The RAF and USAAC dropped about 1,600,000 tons of bombs on Germany alone. About 3/4 of the tonnage was dropped in 1944 and 1945.

It was during the Italian campaign, after disembarking US soldiers, the ship was tasked with bringing German & Italian POWs back to the US.

As he told it, the Germans were disinclined to follow ship rules and regulations for POWs, so the ship’s command placed the Italian POWs in charge of the German POWs.

Subsequently things kinda worked themselves out among the POWs on board.

Yeah, it sucks when it gets hot here - AC is pretty much non-existent in homes here in Central Europe. You can buy mobile AC units here (used, in good condition) for about $150 or thereabouts. I was thinking of getting one, but it’s only really hot for a couple of weeks here, so it’d be hard to justify the expenditure.

Damn…..it’s only 71 here in Ostrava.

It’s sort of like buying a snow blower here. Conditions rarely such that you need it, but damn you wish you had one when they do occur.

Yeah………I seriously thought about it, but then I started thinking, “It really gets hot here in August and September - that’s only a couple of months out of the year, and is it really worth it for something I’d likely only use for two months, and then it just ends up taking up space?”

It’d be cheaper for me to find those old-style bamboo roll-down sunshields - you have to look for them, but they turn up from time to time.

FDA Advisory Committee Approves ‘Female Viagra’ Drug

An FDA advisory committee voted to recommend approval of flibanserin, which would become the first drug to treat low libido in women.

The committee voted 18-6 to approve the pill. According to the New York Times, it’s meant to be taken daily and, over time, influences levels of dopamine and seratonin in the brain. It would be “for women whose lack of sexual desire was not attributable to other causes such as disease or relationship troubles, providing that certain steps were taken to limit the risks of the drug.”

Less scary as a driver than as a passenger. In my misspent youth, I found out the hard way. Had a friend drive though a speed trap in Alabama in the early 70’s so he could find out how fast the car would go (speedometer maxed out) while I was a passenger.

Cops said 166 mph.

Thought for sure we were going to jail. But the Alabama State Troopers just wanted to see what was under the hood and talk cars. Of course, the cops were driving Javelin AMX’s with special packages. They wanted to know what it was that they couldn’t catch. They only caught us because my friend slowed down and pulled over (he did, after all, want to find out how fast we were going).

Cops were driving a souped up version of this

Jobs aren’t really valuable either. Just profits.

South El Monte, CA, was a mecca for specialist machining job shops from the 1930s to the early 1990s. Thousands of top machinists were employed at great wages in those shops over the years. All but three or four of those shops, along with the businesses that supported them, went away during the early years of the offshoring boom. I was working in one of those shops when the owner passed the word that next Friday would be our last day. He’d arranged to have all of the work done overseas. I asked him if he was sending the work out because he wasn’t making money on it. He told me that he was making plenty of money, but he could make even more by closing the shop and just acting as a middleman.

re: #318 Eclectic Cyborg

Is there EVER a good reason to be going over 100 if you’re not on a racetrack?

I used to have a 1988 Supercharged Toyota MR2 (fastest production car on the market that year). Learned about how spoilers work in that car. Once you get above 100mph, the aerodynamics kick in and the car sucks down closer to the road from the downforce…speed then increases rapidly. The only downside I found was in bringing it back to 70 mph on the highway. You cover a lot of ground at 120-130mph and you need to give yourself plenty of time to get back to a reasonable speed and avoid other cars in the process.

Fun car. Wish I still had it sometimes.

Actually it says:

The Flint River has a history of poor water quality due to industrial pollution and agricultural runoff, according to an assessment by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. But efforts to remove pollutants and clean up the river have been successful in the past 40 years. Now, some are wondering if the problem lies in the city’s treatment of the water, which differs from its treatment of its previous water source, Lake Huron.

So the river used to be polluted but has been remediated over the last several decades, and the contamination may be happening in treatment.

A friend and I were talking about this the other night. We were remembering about how many times you’d sometimes see a car that didn’t look too damaged, but there would be a fatality because the driver slammed his chest again that big old steering wheel and hard steering column and die from blunt trauma to the chest. Voting as a career choice. I’d not thought of this. This person sounds most intriguing.

So the Cavs can try to patch up as many ouchies as possible to put a team on the court for the rest of the series.

I know you are from Cali and most likely a Warriors fan, but damn…the Cavs had their chance to win that last night.

If you listened to all the sports predictors the Cavs had no chance against the Warriors and shouldn’t have be on the same court.

If Kyrie Irving is done for the season, they are probably done now.

Had they won and not had that nasty overtime, that might have changed the whole dynamic of the series. Losing game one at home and being a young team, that might have messed with some Golden State heads.

Oh well…such is life.

445 TedStriker  Jun 5, 2015 10:42:08am

Ain’t this some shit?

Ars Technica: Political deleted-tweet archive shuttered by Twitter over “privacy expectation”

“The Politwoops website, which launched in 2012 to keep tabs on tweets deleted by known politicians, saw its feed dry up in the middle of May with no announcement. After Gawker reporter J.K. Trotter began investigating the story this week, he got the answer that Politwoops’ founders, the “government transparency” non-profit Sunlight Foundation, hadn’t: Twitter itself revoked the site’s access to Twitter’s API.”

[…]

However, at that time, Twitter didn’t loudly announce the change that apparently affected Politwoops’ operation: that developers should “only surface Twitter activity as it surfaced on Twitter.” As an example, the agreement now states that when users delete or “unfavorite” any posts, developers should respond “not by publicly displaying to other users that the Tweet is no longer favorited or has been deleted.” In other words, when it’s deleted from Twitter, it should be removed from any site or service that sips from Twitter’s firehose. (Perhaps this will encourage Barbra Streisand to create a Twitter account.)

446 HappyWarrior  Jun 5, 2015 10:42:18am

The abolitionists were mostly Christians. Pay no attention to our Southern Baptist Convention founded explicitly to religiously justify slavery.//

Or a destroyed face from hitting that nasty old non-safety glass windshield.

Nope, Ford perfected laminated safety glass for automobiles in 1919. Safety glass windshields were standard on Fords from 1919 on. The other manufacturers quickly followed suit. Those old safety glass windshields caused injuries because the pieces of glass were held together by the laminate which made them tough for something soft to go through. That, and the fact that cars didn’t have seat belts as standard equipment until the late Fifties.
