Riverfront Times Reports on Chuck Johnson’s Wingnut Tea Party Lawyer

A James O’Keefe crony

The Riverfront Times has a report today on the wingnut lawyer representing the dreaded Ginger Avenger, Chuck C. Johnson, in his quixotic quest to regain his Twitter account: St. Louis Lawyer Fighting to Reinstate Troll King Charles Johnson on Twitter.

Look out, they’ll be suing the Riverfront Times next for calling Johnson a “troll king” instead of an “award winning high-IQ journalist.”

Has St. Louis’ own John Burns grown up since his Tea Partying activist days? Yes and no.

Back in 2010, Burns was best known as the leader of a campaign opposing a MetroLink tax hike. He also took on roles organizing a disruption of an LGBT rally, staging a “campus gulag” at Washington University and assisting right-wing prankster James O’Keefe in a plot to “seduce” a CNN reporter.

Nowadays, rather than meddling in Tea Party politics or engineering ill-intentioned pranks, Burns is a lawyer — but he hasn’t exactly gone to the boring, corporate side of the law. In fact, he’s currently representing none other than Charles C. Johnson, the widely reviled blogger who late last month was banned from Twitter after soliciting funds to be used for “taking out” Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson.

It will be a big surprise if Chuck and his “legal counsel” actually follow through on their threats to sue Twitter, because they can’t possibly win, and proceeding with such an obviously frivolous suit would open Burns to the possibility of sanction by his state’s bar — and open Chuck Johnson to the likelihood of being on the hook for all of Twitter’s legal costs when he loses. (Not “if,” “when.”)

Is this guy representing Chuck pro bono and what does he expect to get out of it since nobody actually gives a shit.

2 Mike Lamb  Jun 8, 2015 4:56:23pm

Sorry for immediate OT, but the USWMNT better get Alex Morgan back really quickly, or they are in trouble. They’re leading 1-0 on a fortunate deflection, but Australia could easily have 2-3 goals but for Hope Solo and some questionable shooting decisions.

I’m sure he’s doing it pro bono. This guy is a hardcore right wing head case.

She’s a white girl who was with the party. She says a white woman got angry and belligerant and a security guard tried to get people to leave. She was put in handcuffs and they wouldn’t tell her father why she was being “detained” and said the cop who did it wouldn’t come over to talk to him.

Tried to say his daughter was “resisting arrest” and “mouthy” but her father said she was calling one of the adults on her racism and using profanity toward the kids.

15 goddamnedfrank  Jun 8, 2015 5:09:03pm

No mention that Burns isn’t even licensed to practice law in California, and as far as I can tell nothing about Chuck’s beef with Twitter qualifies for a federal civil court lawsuit. As far as Twitter is concerned he’s basically just some asshole friend of Chuck’s that happens to have a law degree. His demand letter is utterly toothless.

Yes. She is blowing a big hole in the original narrative and says the young Black girl that was thrown down didn’t start anything, the one White woman started the fighting.

Also, the whole scene had calmed down and the police arrived after being called and it got out of control with their arrival.

I should add. It was the young White boy that shot the main video everyone is seeing. He was the one that made a statement regarding everything was cool until the cops came.

I’m pretty sure when it was most likely mentioned by the citizen (big guy in video?) that called in it was Black kids causing trouble the cops got into automatic hate mode and came in all hot and bothered.

It is something I don’t get. What can the girl have possibly done in that situation to justify the cop’s behavior? Let’s stipulate for a second that she was acting like teenagers some time act with cops. How can that possibly call for the WWE maneuvers that are seen in the video?

I think that should be singular cop. From an interview with a black parent of, I believe, the girl in the video I saw earlier on the news, the dad said that the other cops were professional but that one cop was just “out of control.”

Then there’s the fact that Chuck’s lawyer got up on Huffpost Live and said, verbatim, “I think that he was just simply referring to doxing.” That was literally his defense, to obfuscate and pretend that Chuck was banned over a misinterpreted threat, when Twitter told his client he was suspended for “targeted abuse.” Burns must have known that Chuck had been suspended three previous times for doxing, Chuck’s write up of those previous suspensions is explicitly referenced (with accompanying URL) in his demand letter to Twitter.

Burns might actually be the worst lawyer ever.

Specifically he beat the shit out of a bunch of turkeys, and at least one pig, then spray painted them for good measure.

On Friday, police arrested Sean Toon and Jason Milliken, both 18, and Enrique Salgado and Joshua Stubbs, both 17, on charges of felony criminal mischief related to an incident earlier this month at the Outdoor Learning Center, which houses the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District’s vocational agricultural program, officials said.

The animals had been decorated with spray paint and beaten, she said. A local veterinarian called to the scene helped tend to the animals, but 12 turkeys out of a flock of 50 died from the beatings, and some are still missing, Fitzgerald said.

Yep. Just heartbreaking.

It’s stories like his that raise my blood pressure so high.

There is no excuse for keeping a 16 yr old in jail for 3 yrs, not someone in his condition.

He was abandoned by the law.

95 HappyWarrior  Jun 8, 2015 5:52:39pm

In an age where bakers/florists who complain that having to serve gay people is discrimination. Here is a case of a young man denied basic due process. I don’t want to hear conservative Christians complaining about how hard they have it since SSM is legal in many states and probably will be in all states by the end of the summer.

99 HappyWarrior  Jun 8, 2015 5:56:51pm

The fact of the mater is I just can’t buy that the police are constantly in fear for their safety and lives with black suspects and pois. I just can’t when I see that they’re able to detain armed white perps. Some of who have recently committed murder. And I honestly don’t think a lot of these are new and sudden developments. I think this shit has been happening to the African American for decades, centuries even and we’re finally seeing a lot of what African-Americans have to deal with from police departments because thankfully we have technology that records these incidents in a quick and easy to upload manner. It wasn’t like this in the past. When I was a kid in the 90’s, having a video camera was a big deal. Now most people have one in some form via their phone or tablet.

That PA case is exhibit #1 against for-profit prison schemes. Cases like that are simply inevitable once the criminal justice system is significantly privatized.

Yep. The justice system should never be a for profit thing. I remember when the story first broke. Horrifying but even more horrifying after seeing the kids stories. I wanted to punch the judge so hard since he was so goddamn smug about wanting to punish kids rather than giving them a chance.

While I was in grad school, I kept irregular hours, since one of my pastimes was playing speed chess until all hours of the morning. As a result, I occasionally was out and about and saw cops in places like Stanford and Palo Alto in the wee hours of the morning. I was never hassled by a cop.

Fact of the matter is, if every white voter that voted in the 08 election, but not the 2012 presidential election had come out and voted for Romney, he still would not have won.

The GOP seems to be convinced that stirring up a smaller and smaller pool of voters while seeming to go out of their way to alienate a growing population of minority voters is a winning strategy.

Sort of like losing twenty cents on each item you sell, but figuring that you’ll make it up in volume.

There is no level of difference over how government should handle the economy that allows excusing disparate treatment of minorities or interfering in the civil rights of your fellow human beings, in my opinion.
