Chuck C. Johnson Announces He’s Suing Gawker for Libel

The Summer of Justice has begun
Weird • Views: 43,830
BEWARE, journalists! Chuck is COMING FOR YOU!

He’s made his Facebook page private for some weird reason, but today cyberstalker Chuck C. Johnson announced (privately) that he’s going ahead with his numerous threats to sue Gawker Media for libel. And their little dogs too.

Here’s a screenshot of his post (courtesy of @pilotg171); and by the way, his profile photo is David with the head of Goliath, not that Chuck has delusions of grandeur or anything:

If he goes through with this it will be the biggest mistake he ever made.

If the gods are kind, not only will this be dismissed with prejudice, but whichever lawyer foolish enough to take up this case will have to explain himself to the bar.

So, how did THE DONALD free up his schedule to allow his very serious presidential run to overtake his other pressing duties? And will Chuck Toad bring this comment up if/when he has the “serious presidential contender” on the show?

So many questions—and the only answer is a deep sigh and uncontrollable laughter.

17 The Vicious Babushka  Jun 17, 2015 10:16:47am

What exactly did Gawker say that is “libelous”? I don’t remember if they stated as a fact that he shit the floor, it was more of a “Did Charles C. Johnson shit the floor? He said he didn’t.”

18 WhatEVs  Jun 17, 2015 10:17:12am

Hey Charles, while you’re going all coder on the main page, would you consider having the Pages panel on posts like this follow down with the comments - so it is always accessible no matter how far down on a page we are? Once a thread gets so long, I always have to scroll way up to see the Pages (which I read religiously).

If we were talking about anybody but Chucky, I’d look at this as hitting rock bottom, actually gambling on making a profit by filing a nonsense “libel” case in the hopes of scaring Gawker into a settlement.

But this is Chucky, so I’d say we’re not even within spitting distance of rock bottom yet.

Gawker’s lawyers will be able to go depose Chucky on anything germane to the case or their defense. That means expect them to go after his MS subpoena, his stalker tendencies online and in real life, etc.

OT: I just took the I Side With poll that VB posted downstairs. I answered all the extended questions. I was somewhat surprised at the results—turns out I’m a bit more left-leaning than I realized.

Top three POTUS candidates
• Bernie Sanders 92%
• Hillary Clinton 78%
• Martin O’Malley 68% (oddly Jeb! was 4th at 33% due to immigration)

All the other candidates listed were GOP, but with the exception of Christie (24% environmental issues) my agreement with them was less than 10% (and on 0 major issues).

Parties I side with
• Democrats 95%
• Green Party 95%
• Socialist 87% (D_F is gonna stop speaking to me now, LOL)
• Libertarians came in 4th at 30% (again due to immigration)
• Constitution Party 28% (wasn’t even aware it existed till today, the name sounds wingnutty….)
• GOP 7%

Chuck Todd is not too fond of The Donald either.

“I feel bad for the rest of the Republican field,” Todd said Wednesday on MSNBC. “Behind the scenes you have a party apparatus, you have candidates who hope that he doesn’t run, who basically are treating him like the skunk at the garden party. And you know, if he’s standing there on stage next to the next Republican nominee and they have to answer for things that he said … I think it’s a potential to embarrass the future nominee, having him on stage.”

He said that the news media should be thoughtful on whether to cover Trump as a serious candidate. “Yes, he is giving voice and anger, channeling some of the anger and frustration that’s out there with some people but does he deserve the platform?” Todd said. “Has he earned the platform to be taken as a serious presidential candidate? I think the burden of proof is on him. I don’t think he did himself any good yesterday to prove that he’s being serious about this.”

Although, I bet if Todd could book him on MTP, he would jump at it. And…Todd feels sorry for the Republican party? Give me a break. They have been running to kiss the Trump ring to gain his support for years.

They made him a king, now he is demanding his throne be recognized.

Does CCJ have up the grift page begging for donations to go after Gawker yet? ‘Cause that’s going to be HIGH-larious. Whatever jack-leg lawyer CCJ has teamed up with for this suit is going to have a nervous breakdown about 1 week in, when Gawker’s team carpet-bombs him, and he realizes that he’s playing in the big leagues without a goddam bat.

Amateur hour will be over right about then. Either he’ll demand a big retainer for proceeding, or there will be a motion to recuse. At which point, we can expect ever-more hysterical screeds from CCJ about the white man’s inability to get JUSTICE!!! from the liberalcommie court system … or something darker & involving the objects CCJ is holding in the photo above.

Or the standard cynical plan is in force to “sue” Gawker (or another “target”), cry martyrdom, and then try to land wingnut welfare as he attempts to joust with the windmill.

I won’t take any of this seriously beyond another stupid and lazy grift attempt until he files paperwork and then actually gets deposed. Once he actually takes a real risk then the self-destruction might be worth some eyeball time.

Ben has no idea that he has psychological problems, because his whole subculture has them. Any feedback hinting that he’s gone nuts is disregarded as being from tricksy liberals. This is how cults keep their members away from reality.

I’m tired of Jeb! this, and Jeb! that. If not Jeb!, then it’s H-> this! and H-> that!

I think it’s time we reinstated the fairness doctrine and applied it to the primary field as well.

It’s simple math, really.

Two parties, equal time between them (eg: 30 minutes of 60 minute news show)
Of that 30 minutes, assume 8 minutes of commercial interruption, so 22 minutes.
Now divide that time equally between the candidates for the party. Hillary, Bernie, O’Malley - each get 7 minutes of coverage per hour…that’s a pretty good deal if you ask me, though I don’t think there is seven minutes of material on O’Malley.

Now for the Republicans:
Jeb!, Marco, Ted, Ben, Rick, Carly,Rick (I know, sounds redundant, but it isn’t really), George, Donald, and the other three poor bastards who aren’t getting any attention can divide the other 22 minutes - so 110 seconds each. That’s a lot of seconds!

Seems fair to me.

The fact of the matter is we have “more” cases of Autism today than we did in the past because we know what Autism is. The traits that appear with autism didn’t come about in this generation. There are plenty of historical figures speculated to be on the spectrum and there were probably a lot of innocent children who were wrongly assumed to be mentally disturbed who were in fact autistic. Autism’s “rise” is actually I think a little close to homosexuality’s “rise.” There’s always been people like this. It’s just we know more now than people in the past did.

Right. I mean there’s always been people like me out there. We just didn’t understand it as well. Hell in my lifetime, Asperger’s has become much more understood and known. When I first got diagnosed back in ‘02, I had no idea what Asperger’s was. If I were a boy of my brother’s sub-generation and got diagnosed today, I would.

Agreed. What I was getting at is, prior to discovery of the virus and the identification of the specific set of symptoms, doctors wrote it off as “unknown” or complication due to another disease. It wasn’t until the 80s that we understood that those cases were in fact a whole new disease.

I kept a guinea pig named Pongo for several years. Cute little guy, but he didn’t do much besides eat and force me to clean his cage. For a few days after I got him, my cat Roo and my dog Roswell would sit in front of his cage watching him, as though they thought I had brought them something new for lunch. Eventually they accepted him, but I always kept on eye on them when Pongo was out of the cage.

Roo is the only one of these critters still with us. He is now 24 years old and seems to be in good health, though he sleeps about 18 hours a day. He lives with my daughter. It is just amazing that she is now 32 and a professor but this cat has been with her since she was 7.

The alienation of the spectator to the profit of the contemplated object (which is the result of his own unconscious activity) is expressed in the following way: the more he contemplates the less he lives; the more he accepts recognizing himself in the dominant images of need, the less he understands his own existence and his own desires. The externality of the spectacle in relation to the active man appears in the fact that his own gestures are no longer his but those of another who represents them to him. This is why the spectator feels at home nowhere, because the spectacle is everywhere.

A friend of mine that worked in mental health did an interview at the Ohio State Hospital for Mental Health, Tiffin, Ohio back in 1977 with one of Ohio’s first cases classified as Autism. The young man he worked with was I believe 17 at the time. That would mean he was born in 1960.

They were just learning about it at the time.

Years later my buddy said he thought some of the kids we went to school with in the 60s and early 70s most likely could have be considered autistic, but no one knew about how to diagnose and classify the condidtion. Since that time they have learned there are degrees, etc.

And regarding Trump’ vaccine bullshit. Wouldn’t there be the dreaded and blamed additive thimerosal be in all of the shots? So, more shots more thimerosal, right? One big shot, less thimerosal, right?

I opened my door, and found a note from my neighbor. Regarding a set of rainbow jar solar lights hanging in my yard that spell out “Love” and “Ohana”. They informed me that the neighborhood is “christian” and has “children” and asked me to stop being “relentlessly gay”….

I was expecting buttplug shaped topiary.

Sure, back in the 60s and 70s, instead of all these different classifications, people with a large variety of conditions were just considered learning-disabled, or worse - retarded. You don’t have to go back far for medicine and psychiatry to be a joke from our modern perspective. I’m sure we’ll be a joke too in another 50 years.

The guy is a puffy windbag with a fast mouth and a slow brain.

Yeah a lot wasn’t known back then that is now. My own psychologist didn’t think I was on the spectrum and he had a son with Autism.

I know several people who would take a letter like that as incentive to go all out in making sure their yard was pristine and manicured within an inch of its life. Hell, they might even be motivated to hire a landscaper and have them come out to put in a literal rainbow of flowers and shrubbery to make it really pop.

I would, and I don’t even own a house. Just to spite any neighbors that are that stupid and petty.

Not just stupid and petty but lazy and jealous. They should try fixing their own yard to better the neighborhood altogether. Flaming assholes.

On Ark Park beliefs, state incentives

I opened the June 15 edition of this paper, truly interersted in the article “Ark Park Construction Steams Ahead.” I was greatly disappointed by the clear prejudice in the article. But, most important, I was disappointed to find you have clearly not done your research on the organization. Of note, the article claimed, and I quote, that the beliefs of the organization run “counter to those of scientists.”

This is a grossly errant generalization. First of all, many highly acclaimed scientists hold this viewpoint. Of note, Dr. Ben Carson, researcher Nathaniel Abraham at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and many of the research doctors employed by the Creation Museum all are creationists. They are no less “scientists” for holding this belief.

The problem that the GOP has with this Pope is that he actually tries to walk the walk and comes closer than any recent one. Combine that with his very intimate knowledge of the evil that is a far right regime (the Argentine Junta) and you have a Christian who shows them for what they are.

State-administered Bozhou Radio and TV University said on its website that the fasting ban applied to party members, teachers and young people. […]

Um, no. Ideas will be irrelevant in the GOP primary. Instead it will be a relentless competition/pander-fest to appeal to GOP base voters as the one true and perfect incarnation of Conservative Orthodoxy.

If we don’t see literal Reagan cosplay in this primary, we will see it soon enough in some future election cycle.

Plain Talk: Watch your back if you work for the state

If you do work for the state, just be careful what you say or do nowadays.

Cross the current powers that be — and because they control both houses of the Legislature plus the governor’s office, they indeed are powers — and be prepared to face the consequences. They’ll be out to get you.

It’s not a stretch to say that we’re experiencing the most vindictive period in Wisconsin political history.

It’s not enough that the crew in control of the governor’s office and both houses of the Legislature can, at will, impose their ideology on state policies. It feels it has to destroy whatever or whoever might legitimately pose an obstacle.

Um, that article says the show was pulled BECAUSE of his campaign announcement, not the other way around. (The article is very poorly written, but that’s what I got from it.)

The hit series, which admittedly suffered a ratings hit last season, will simply be put on hiatus until Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has run its course.

What’s most maddening about it is that you have other people who have committed actual crimes against other people who have spent far less time in prison. This guy has two joints on him and they sentence him to thirteen years? And Jindal can’t even give the guy clemency. It’s yet another example of why Bobby Jindal is one of the biggest dicks running in a field of dicks.

You would have to adopt a pretty flexible definition of feminism. How about a saint who got busted at 17 for a suffragette rally and at 75 for an anti-war protest, with a side trip to an illegal abortion? (She’s also the real-life model of an important Batman character and founded a commie newspaper.)

They would generally shut up about pot.

That’s so messed up especially if it was a position you really coveted. What annoys me most is when you interview and follow up and don’t get any feed back. I had an interview with a travel agency last year that I honestly felt I knocked out of the park. Interviewer gave me her card and said call me back in a week if I don’t contact you before and I did just that and nothing. I mean I understand these people have jobs too but just feel like the proverbial string on the thread. I interviewed with DOJ actually before I completed my certificate and that was another that seemed like it went really well and they even asked for more info and they too have kept me in the dark.

It’s possible the legal field is just screwed by over-production in the law schools. Are you looking at occupations where there is a demand for legal skills and knowledge other than law practice? Civil rights NGOs come to mind.

True I gotta be patient. Just get a little discouraged since I’ve had my degree for over three years now and have had few successes. An internship at a history magazine firm and with the feds. I have looked at some NGOs. Not looking to practice. What I’m looking for is a volunteer experience doing paraleagl like work. Most paralegal positions require 2-3 years doing that sort of work so I figured it’d be wise to make some blanket inquiries to folks like public defenders offices and others to see if they’re looking for volunteers.

When did he get hired by the Bernie Sanders Committee?

And, damn, he sure is in with the unions and bashing Obama over TPP and the TPA…which also fits in with the Bernie Sanders push.

In a way he was cutting on Hillary pretty good with his stance too. Also fits in with Sanders pushing.

It’s a free world, and I understand his political stance though I am not 100% in agreement. But, he is supposedly media and he really comes off like a campaign spokesman. Boo Ed!

Oh yeah…how do so many in the media trash TPP because no one knows what is in it, but then can also state they know it is bad, bad, bad for all of America? How do they know, they are sure no one knows what is in it?

I find it suspicious that the Dems with union backing, seem to be voting down NAFTA to kill the TPA…if you know what I mean. I guess the unions are flexing their muscles to make sure they still have some and this is their big chance. I wonder if they are helping themselves or hurting.

Again…no one speaks about the after effects if the TPP and trade bills with foreign nations are killed. Does it make us trade isolationists, or do they really think they can get by just fine with out any trade agreements?

re: #382 HappyWarrior

True I gotta be patient. Just get a little discouraged since I’ve had my degree for over three years now and have had few successes. An internship at a history magazine firm and with the feds. I’m to the point where I am almost to hell with all internships but I am willing to take one at a practice.

I’m sort of in the reverse of your situation.

I graduated art school and was already working freelance before I went with a client and became his art department for his small agency. He died, and I was fortunate to become the in-house guy for a client I brought to the agency, from my favorite sport of auto racing. That went on for 17 great years, even with a change in ownership. Then a few years shy of being able to retire, the owner of the companies I last worked for tossed in the towel and shut down his businesses.

Now, with a decent portfolio and years of seemingly pleasing my clients and bosses, etc. I am out doing freelance work in a field that has changed a ton and is filled with young artists cheaper to hire.

Yeah it sucks. I am trying, but damn…it is similar to hitting my head against the wall.

From feeling successful to a bit of a feeling of being useless.

So, as CL says…life and its ups and downs. Keep fighting. I am…even if I end up working at a Lowes and picking up some pencils and brushes and going full on fine arts painting and drawing. And I own my house and a decent car all paid for. So, I can be lean and mean. (Thanks Obamacare!)

I still have some music going on. Which reminds me, I need to get something together with a music sharing site to get some tunes from our latest collection up here for LGFers to hear.

Too busy beating the bushes and getting beat back.

I wonder if The Innocence Project needs anyone near DC? They’re in NY, and they have postings for both interns and paralegals, but they’re all in NYC.

Maybe there’s a creative way to see if they’d be able to use your location as a plus and create something for you.

So perhaps reading stuff like Supreme Court rulings and keeping it up with that sort of thing would be a good idea. Thanks. I’ll be okay. I am just frustrated. I really want to prove myself and it feels that so many employers won’t even give me a chance.

State rulings might be good, too. Keep up on local cases…they may be used as precendent, too.

Agh another job disappointment. How the hell do employers expect you to gain legal experience if they only have limited opportunities to gain legal experience. I am worried that I am going to forget a lot of what I learned by the time someone finally takes a chance on me. Rant off.

Have you checked with any of the local Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Offices if they need an intern or volunteer at the very least?

Thanks said it better than I could. I can’t watch him either. I prefer Rachel given the choice. I think Rachel’s intellectual and can attack the right’s bs without being overly bombastic.

I had never watched him at all until he started showing up for the Wisconsin protests when Walker started f-ing over state employees. I thought right off the bat that he was a train-jumping attention whore. I can’t stand the guy. re: #368 HappyWarrior

If I recall (correct me if I am wrong) you went to school to be a paralegal, yes?

If so, consider this…go to the courthouse when court is in session and find a few small firm attorneys working defense. Tell them that you’ll PL for free for 4-6 weeks. That gets something on your resume. Smaller firms may jump on it. Have your resume with you and pass it out to all of them after having a short chat. Make sure your “elevator pitch” (30-90 seconds of how awesome you are) is a stone-cold hit.

You’ll have something after a few days.

Yeah, I think that’s the deal.
BTW, a little off topic, but my favorite part of any “Apprentice” episode is at the beginning, when Trump tries to act all excited about some company or product he obviously never heard of before he saw their name on his cue card.

What bothers me most is that he is out-and-out stupid. I called his radio show one day and was reciting statistics and he had no idea (this was on how bad the record of the, I believe 111th congress was). He would have these guests and couldn’t rebut them because he didn’t know enough to do so. That was such a turn off to me. Loved the passion. Hated the lack of knowledge.

No. But I was a part of the TrueSports fan club and started to put together their fan newsletter and some fan items back just before it all fell apart after Trueman’s death.

That did bring interest from someone quite important in the race team that led to the jobs I mentioned. Depending on your knowledge of the team and the sport (and local news and names from the time) you might be able to figure out who that was. I’m not into divulging it all for reasons.

It was truly a blessing to work in my favorite sport and activity. 17 great years…even if at times it was a bitch.

Pet peeve/white person’s problem alert:

I really hate internet businesses that won’t let you know when something is on back order so they ship you a partial order and then charge an exorbitant shipping rate. The reason I wait to buy more than one thing is because your base shipping rate is insane. It’s only affordable if it’s averaged out on additional items.

I just got charged $12.54 shipping for $10.00 worth of non-fragile stuff and was informed that I’d have to place a new order for the back ordered stuff.

I just sent them an email asking for a partial refund of shipping costs, and asked if I placed my orders by phone if they’d know right away if something was out of stock. This has happened with a couple different companies and it bugs the crap out of me. Another business to check off the list…

429 Targetpractice  Jun 17, 2015 3:58:33pm

Look out, folks, Wayne’s about to get the vapors again…

AP: Guns rarely used for self-defense in US

Washington (AFP) - Contrary to what the gun lobby argues, personal firearms in the United States are rarely used for self-defense, a gun control advocacy group said Wednesday.

In an analysis of FBI and other federal government data, the non-profit Violence Policy Center said Americans are far more likely to hurt themselves or others when handling a lethal weapon.

In 2012, it said, only 259 “justifiable homicides” involving a private citizen were reported, compared to 8,342 criminal homicides committed with a gun.

Put another way, for every justifiable homicide involving a gun, 32 criminal homicides carried out with a firearm occurred. And that does not take into account “tens of thousands” of gun-related suicides and unintentional shootings.

Just in case this comes up it appears that China has banned Ramadan fasting in the province where the Uighurs live:

I’m just letting you guys know in case you see clickbait claiming that Ramadan fasting has been banned in China. It has been banned for some and it’s definitely a dickish move on the part of the Chinese government, but it’s not quite as draconian as some people & publications are making it sound.

Ramadan starts tomorrow in most places (including in the US & Canada), and on Friday in others.

How exactly does one go about banning the practice of NOT doing something? I’ve never had my boss tell me “No Steve, you can’t not eat during work.”

Is there more to it than a daylight fast, something that I’m missing?
