Dylann Storm Roof’s Website Discovered, With White Supremacist Manifesto and Photos

A neo-Confederate white supremacist inspired by the Council of Conservative Citizens
Crime • Views: 87,624

A website registered in February in the name of “Dylan Roof” (with his correct address) has been discovered, containing a white supremacist manifesto and dozens of photographs of Roof posing with guns and Confederate flags, visiting a Confederate soldier’s graveyard and other Confederate landmarks, and drawing white power symbols, neo-Nazi runes and the numbers “1488” in the sand on a South Carolina beach.

“14” refers to the infamous “14 words” coined by white nationalist David Lane, that have become a motto for neo-Nazis and racists throughout America:

“We must secure the existence of our people and a future for White Children.”

And “88” refers to the eighth letter of the alphabet, H, with two of them together standing for “Heil Hitler.”

The manifesto is here, but since it’s been publicized you may not be able to get through to the site; it’s apparently a low budget shared server and it’s bogging down badly under the heavy traffic. (Here it is at the Internet Archive.)

In any case, the manifesto is a grotesquely racist screed, filled with hatred toward blacks and Hispanics and obsessed with the very common conservative meme of “black on white crime.”

Roof credits the white supremacist group called the Council of Conservative Citizens with “awakening” him to “black on white crime,” following the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. And that’s an interesting parallel to Gateway Pundit Jim Hoft, who has also used the CCC website as a source numerous times for his racist blog posts.

The website of the Council of Conservative Citizens is apparently offline today, and that’s probably not just a coincidence.

I was struck by how similar the views in this manifesto are to the racist comments tweeted continuously by Chuck C. Johnson (when he still had a Twitter account) — and sure enough, I got a tweet today containing a screenshot of Chuck posting about the manifesto on Facebook, saying he found it “disturbing, yet engaging.”

I’ll conclude by pointing out that so many conservative pundits and Fox News talking heads were desperately trying to pretend there was some question about whether Roof’s horrible crime was racially motivated; now we know for certain that it was. (Not that there was really much doubt anyway, given his statements at the time.)

The right thing for these people to do now would be to eat some crow and apologize for trying to deny the obvious racism of this alleged killer. But I’m not going to hold my breath.

UPDATE at 6/20/15 3:09:58 pm by Charles Johnson

The New York Times has verified that this website was registered to Dylann Roof at his address in February of this year, and that it was last modified shortly before the shootings:

The website was first registered on Feb. 9 to a Dylann Roof in Eastover, S.C. The next day, the registration information was intentionally masked. The site was discovered by two Twitter users, @henrykrinkle and @EMQuangel, who used a tool to find any domain names registered to Mr. Roof. The registration information was then verified by The New York Times.

The site hosts a cache of photos of Mr. Roof as well as the manifesto. According to web server logs, the manifesto was last modified at 4:44 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, the day of the Charleston shootings. “At the time of writing I am in a great hurry,” it says.

The Conservative movement is the deliberate infection of confederate ideology that has taken hold of the whole country. Fiscal conservative is code for ending programs that help minorities and the poor and social conservative is code for religious bigot.

As you can imagine, Wingnuts are desperately trying to blame Dylann Storm Roof’s actions on anything besides racism, usually to promote their pet cause.

Yep.

Jews

Unlike many White naitonalists [sic], I am of the opinion that the majority of American and European jews are White. In my opinion the issues with jews [sic] is not their blood, but their identity. I think that if we could somehow destroy the jewish [sic] identity, then they wouldnt [sic] cause much of a problem. The problem is that Jews look White, and in many cases are White, yet they see themselves as minorities. Just like n*****s, most jews [sic] are always thinking about the fact that they are jewish [sic] . The other issue is that they network. If we could somehow turn every jew [sic] blue for 24 hours, I think there would be a mass awakening, because people would be able to see plainly what is going on.

I dont [sic] pretend to understand why jews [sic] do what they do. They are enigma.

The bolded line (emphasis mine) actually made me LOL—yeah, good thing white nationalists don’t think about the fact that they’re white all the time. //

let the revisionist history begin….

This is what we get for letting those assholes in Texas dictate what gets into the textbooks I guess.

Strangely enough, I think a lot of this could be ratcheted down if there were a concerted effort by the GOP to simply acknowledge that racism exists and that they would be better served to not pander to it (if not outright inciting it). NOBODY wins if this shit keeps up and these fuckers apparently don’t believe that the folks that they are instigating would just as soon burn it all down if they are not shown that not only is their cause lost, its been lost for a 150 years.

For fucks sake, you cheer for black kids when they wear the uniform of your alma mater, professional sports team and yet, somehow, you don’t believe that they have the same rights as you and me. What kind of childish adult continues to believe in this bullshit mythos.

I also want to say, that there are LOTS of folks in the South that feel the same way, Shouting down these strident assholes is tiresome and wears you down as it seems like their rage is a bottomless well of resentment.

Dylann Roof’s Judge.

Racist Talk from Dylann Roof’s Judge

The judge who called for sympathy for shooter Dylann Roof’s family members has a history of racist language in the courtroom.

Charleston County Magistrate James B. Gosnell began Friday’s bond hearing for mass-murderer Dylann Roof by declaring that the killer’s family members were victims as well.

At least he did not repeat an opinion that he offered in another proceeding a dozen years ago.

“There are four kinds of people in this world—black people, white people, red necks, and n—-rs,” Gosnell advised a black defendant in a November 6, 2003 bond reduction hearing.

That. That right there. The Southern Baptist conservatives seem to have this immense, simmering rage inside of them that bleeds out into everything they do. And this has formed the core of the news diet that Fox spews out - it is akin to Richard Nixon’s same inferiority/superiority complex.

Which is where a young guy by the name of Roger Ailes drank it up and, like Strontium-90 replacing the calcium in the bones and over the years causing bone-marrow cancer, the resentment/sense of privilege combo has turned into the noxious, toxic mess that now passes for mainstream thought in the GOP.

Ted Cruz: Democrats Using Charleston as ‘excuse’ to Take Away Gun Rights

“A sick and deranged man went and prayed for an hour with the congregants in an historically black church and then, for reasons that we don’t fully understand murdered nine innocent souls.”

[…]

A reporter for The Huffington Post asked Cruz why it has been “difficult” for Republicans to “acknowledge that the attack was racially driven.”

Cruz said he disagreed with the premise of the question.

“It appears to be racially driven from what was reported that this deranged man said and a racial hate crime is horrific. And any murder is horrific,” Cruz said. “I don’t think we should be using this question to try to divide people and to try to seek partisan advantage. I think we should be praying for those who lost loved ones.”

Cruz said earlier that Democrats like to “go after our rights to keep and bear arms” and there has been a “consistent pattern” from the Obama administration and Democrats of violating the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Yeah, amongst other products. The climate in the agrarian south lent itself to cash crops that required large amounts of unskilled manual labor. That, couple with patterns of settlement - the South was colonized during a wave of Scots-Irish borderlander immigration. These immigrants were poor, formerly the debt-peons of the “lairds” in their homelands, and brought with them the burning anger from that socioeconomic system.

Like many abused, they mostly wanted to turn the system upside-down, with themselves on the top as the abusers. Which they did. They also brought with them the hair-trigger violence and outsized emphasis on “personal honor” from the Old Country, which you see in the parking lots around cheap-ass roadhouse bars across the Deep South, where the descendants of these immigrants batter each other with Lucky Lager bottles over minor slights to the mudflaps on Ford pickup trucks.

The economies of the South were primarily based on agriculture —cotton and tobacco being main crops. And prior to mechanization (cotton gin, for example), these “industries” were entirely dependent on manual labor.

There’s an area in the South called “the black belt”, but it didn’t get that name for having most of the black people. It’s because the soil there is very dark, very fertile, and it’s where our best agriculture was.

In the North, even before people became very citified (probably the reason people became so citified), even with very good soil there were harsh winters that made agriculture a half-the-year endeavor at best.

I think that’s the premise of the piece, which is remarkably self-aware. They’re saying that conservative politicians and conservative talking heads are too chicken to offend the racist portion of their audience.

If you’re one of the (how many is it now? 14?) GOP presidential candidates and you call Charleston for what it is, you’re guaranteed to lose 10% of your followers to some other candidate who won’t make them feel bad because they’re racists.

70 Desmond  Jun 20, 2015 11:15:39am

So, right wingers’ overt racism directly inspired a domestic terrorist. It’ll be interesting to see how they try and explain that devaluing black lives and reflexively arguing that unarmed black teens “deserve” to get shot by police and the Zimmermans of the world had nothing to do with this guy’s radicalization.

Interesting coincidence that the conservativereason.org site was registered 6 days after Roof’s site and is also privacy protected, though this one through GoDaddy.

Given that the article calls him a racist, murdering asshole (or words to that effect) about six times, yeah, I’d just call it coincidental. Lots of sites are registered every day.

Some strange stuff goes on with that site. “Self-aware” is the last adjective I’d apply to it in general, which is why this article shocked me. I’ve actually been a fan of it for a while, mainly for the gawking/humor value.

Oh definitely. Plus southern economies did not evolve. The economy of the South in 1860 was similar to what it was in 1760. That’s quite different from the North. That ultimately was their undoing.

Eli Whitney’s invention of the cotton gin in 1793 made short upland cotton into a viable cash crop and expanded the areas in which cotton could be grown. As others have mentioned, cotton was a very labor intensive crop, The antebellum South largely failed to industrialize because exporting cotton fiber was lucrative enough to enable it to buy in manufactured goods.

The RWNJs are very, very disappointed that the shooter wasn’t Muslim. I’m trying not to be paranoid, but I suspect that might be part of why they keep harping on Christians being in danger—i.e. most Christians actually being killed or threatened these days are experiencing this at the hands of violent, radical Islamists. It’s yet another way to turn things back to, “But the Muslims!”

SQUIRREL!!11!

I mean, a bunch of the clown car candidates were bringing up the the Muslim thing and this takes the focus off their pet bogeyman. And that was at the center of the liberal/conservative divide in those days. Everybody agreed that politics was for the rich, but the argument was about the legitimate ways of becoming rich. For conservatives, land ownership was the source of the only wealth that should count. “Liberals”—what we would today call “Classical Liberals” (Reaganauts, Thatcherites, etc.) thought that money made in trade or manufacturing was just as good.

The plantation owners would never accept that they could be ruled over by tradesmen (read “Jews”) or industrialists, and since the southern economy was built on agriculture, there was really no way that the agrarian nobility could be unseated from control—without a war, anyway.

re: #69 Fred72

I think that’s the premise of the piece, which is remarkably self-aware. They’re saying that conservative politicians and conservative talking heads are too chicken to offend the racist portion of their audience.

If you’re one of the (how many is it now? 14?) GOP presidential candidates and you call Charleston for what it is, you’re guaranteed to lose 10% of your followers to some other candidate who won’t make them feel bad because they’re racists.

Same road I’ve been going down. They got all these idiot RWNjs riled up to be their voting base. Now they know they have to keep playing to them or there is no chance.

And really it is a no-win situation. If the GOP cleans up and kicks ‘em out the RWNJs can turn on them. Not only will they lose elections, but they’ll need to run for their lives. (sorta /)

I hate to say it, and it is only an example, but a good one for right here, right now. Maybe the next ‘taking the country back” Roof type shows up in South Carolina GOP State Rep. Norman “Doug” Brannon’s office and says he hates to do it, but it needs to be done for the survival of the white race.

Brannon is the politician that is going to try to pass a bill on taking the flag down in SC.

Nothing worse than a turn coat or someone that deceived them. At that point someone who said they had their interests and then goes against them is more the enemy than the politician they know is opposed.

It all goes into some of what Khal Wimpo posted in #57. I’ve seen bloody fights between brothers or father and son with some of the same type of people. Over some stupid thinking and bravado.

If Lindsey Graham had said the flag has to go, the shootings were all racist and the south needs to clean up it’s act, an hour later he’d be getting some interesting messages and visitors. And threats.

If, that is, they had the free labor to support it. Until the explosion of farm mechanization in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, even a modest-sized farming operation required a staggering number of manual laborers to keep up. There are very few regular crops anymore that aren’t worked at least partly by machines.

Case in point, someone here at the park put about a 6’ pole in the ground and hung one at their pad several weeks ago. I expressed extreme disgust by it to my dog-walking friend who was actually bewildered by my response. Not because she shares any beliefs in what it represents, but because it simply has no meaning to her at all. Once I explained why I felt the way I do she was ohhhh, I see. Until recently, the ammosexual right’s bark was considerably worse than its bite, and it would be understandable if rational people had under-estimated the threat. We are seeing a gradual and accelerating rise in violence and confrontation, though, as the far right’s fantasies make the transition to reality. We had isolated attacks on law enforcement officers, like the West Memphis ambush, then the shockingly overt Bundy Ranch standoff (which thankfully didn’t result in any deaths but easily could have). Now we have this barbarous massacre by an avowed white supremacist who is obviously steeped in far right propaganda. So far, we have not seen any massacres of peaceful demonstrators, or attacks on federal troops, or vigilante take-overs of whole jurisdictions but with what we have seen so far we cannot rule out the possibility. Right wing media continue to dismiss people like Roof as isolated nuts. He is indeed nuts but a cursory look at RW message boards will show that millions of Americans agree with most of his stated tenets so he is far from isolated.

I think you’re right. Far right and conspiracist media have already pre-spun every possible outcome. If there is no coup or martial law declaration, it is because the Army backed down in the face of “patriot” threats. If scum like the ones who were waving the “Gestapo” sign in Bastrop County actually shoot at the troops, the FBI will immediately make arrests, probably with a few fatalities when the more devoted fools resist. This will be interpreted as evidence that the whole thing was just a pretext for making such arrests.

I’ve been seeing some well-intentioned people advocate the cancellation of the Jade Helm exercise. It is not worth the risk of violence and confrontation they say.
My response is not just no, but hell no. The lawful government and the national army cannot back down in the face of seditionist threats. Fort Sumter wasn’t worth much militarily, and certainly not worth a war, but the authorities were absolutely right not to meekly surrender it to the slavers.

They somehow want to accuse us on the left of both being anti Southern, anti- “states rights” yet they also want ot blame us for the CSA. i pointed it out earlier that yes there were a lot of Democrats that pushed secession but there was also a lot of Democratic unionists too including many generals like Hancock, Benjamin Butler, and many others. And also that Douglas, Lincoln’s famous rival and debate opponent offered his strong support to the Union and Lincoln after Sumter.

They’re also extremely unoriginal in their hysteria. Re: “drugs made him do it”—

From the Sandy Hook aftermath—I traced that one from start to finish:

Premise: Adam Lanza was taking the anti-psychotic drug, Fanapt, which apparently has side-effects that lead to violence.

The story began in the NY Daily News which claimed that the information came from Lanza’s uncle, Jonathan Lanza. Then New York Magazine reported it, attributing it to the Daily News article. Then the race was on with many others picking it up and then several doing in-depth articles about the drug itself.

HOWEVER, the Daily News took down the section about the uncle, and several other sources pointed out the possibility that the Daily News got punked by someone named Jonathan Lee Riches, who is known for perpetrating hoaxes and suing people and also did something similar after the Aurora shootings.

But it’s out there and the wingers are running with it and the meme has become that guns are not the issue—anti-psychotic drugs are.

They’re just so fucking predictable. (And I just noticed, reviewing some of my notes after Sandy Hook, that the AP actually did an in-depth article/interview with the salon where Adam Lanza had his hair cut several years earlier. Now THAT’S Pulitzer stuff, my friend.
I only mention that because Roof’s haircut seems to be of great interest to the likes of Dana Loesch, so perhaps AP is investigating that important angle about Roof.) ///////

What really angers me is the unrestrained racism I deal with every workday from callers I deal with.

There are a substantial number of them that love to use the “N” word like the dam is broke when it comes to the President. And they’re hard core teabaggers who hate the same government that provides their Medicare, Social Security and especially Supplemental Security Income!

Saw a couple of them today in Mocksville, NC where I was helping with a Revolutionary War living history event.

Older middle aged woman, low income and missing most of her front teeth, spouting racist shit. Twenty something year old son who was two sandwiches short of a picnic. Complete walking stereotype of every negative Southern image you can think of.

I managed to disengage and walk away, and found other people to talk to. Life is too damned short.

But everything was fixed up after that see, and racism was eliminated. Today shooting up a Black church can’t be racist because it was fixed. This has got to be something else.

Besides, liberals always believe in that Supreme Court law stuff, and the Chief Justice said there was no more racism in America as far as institutionalized.

Why do you liberals keep dragging up this bad memory and bashing the good folk of South Carolina over the head with it time and time again?

Stay in your states up north and never no mind. You have enough problems to be fixing in Chicago. More people kilt up there in a week than down here. We take care of our own. You take care of your own.

Plus—this Paige’s family doesn’t seem to be able to even keep their stories straight. In this one, Paige’s mother says (before adding the obligatory death threats report),

“Ben comes from a very good family, very well-educated, from church-going, God-loving people who would never condone or teach this to their children. I don’t know when Dylann got lost,”

In her quotes from the Daily Fail Article, this same woman said,

Her daughter’s marriage had been a ‘source of great concern’ on numerous occasions, she added. ‘Prior to the marriage, a pattern of control and mental manipulation was evident to me and many of (Paige’s) friends… I am well acquainted with the signs of an abusive relationship… Hastings said that Franklin (Ben) was ‘manipulative’ and that once in January 2009 he came round and was ‘pounding on the front door and yelling in the extreme’.

Washington Post story sounds more like a romance novel:

…a quiet, shy boy who mostly kept to himself…Roof’s slow, aimless walk into adolescence veered off its lightly marked path…drifting anonymously without the apparent moorings of common teenage interests…

While Roof was quiet and “did stay a lot to himself,”… his mother “never raised him to be like this.”…Back in Gaston, even as he described Roof as a quiet young man who kept out of trouble…

washingtonpost.com

From the HuffPo, white suspect vs. black victim story from last year, a few examples:

WHITE SUSPECTS
Ala. suspect brilliant but social misfit
Son in Staten Island murders was brilliant, athletic—but his demons were the death of parents

BLACK VICTIMS
Trayvon Martin was suspended 3 times from school
Montgomery’s latest homicide victim had history of narcotics abuse, tangles with the law

huffingtonpost.com

And the truly disgusting headlines at cleveland.com right after Tamir Rice’s murder on November 23:

Today has been interesting, people genuinely wondering why somebody with a 9th grade education created such a shitty web page using only ASCII text and a zip file. Then wondering how he managed to take self timed photos like that’s some kind of rocket science. Then switching back and being amazed that he was able to write down his hatred lucidly at all, like he didn’t just crib all those ideas form other hate sites.

I have no idea where this impetus to view Roof’s manifesto as a hoax comes from, but it’s weird.

Because too much of that manifesto is shit they’ve found themselves saying at one time or another. Like suggesting that what we’ve told about slavery are “myth and lies,” using the statistics about how many people owned slaves or testimonials about “happy slaves” to argue that slavery wasn’t all that bad.

Coming soon to Texas, for the wingnut who doesn’t think a gun enough of a ‘statement’:

Commercial XM42 flamethrower hits the open market (VIDEO)

The XM42 is the result of personal ambition and a lot of helping hands in the form of an Indiegogo campaign. It’s the world’s first commercially-produced flamethrower by Ion Productions, and it’s available and for sale now to the general public.

And before you think this is a firebug’s dream come true — which it is, we’re not even going to try to argue otherwise — it’s also a serious tool. While the first thing that comes to mind is that this is a slightly grown-up version of shooting matchsticks out of BB guns the XM42 was an instant hit with farmers looking for a cheap and efficient way to clear land and for firefighters to use for controlled burns.

As a result the crowdfunding effort pretty effortlessly drummed up the support needed to put the idea into real production. They raised $50,000 in the first day of the project, more than the $40,000 goal, eventually taking in over $157,000 in pre-orders and pledges.

“Although I knew the XM42 was a cool concept, I had no idea it would cause a firestorm of interest and orders right off the bat,” said Chris Byars, XM42 project leader. “I’m proud of how far my design has come from its early days, and am eager to start sharing the XM42 with everyone.”

I CAN see legit uses for this thing, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t somewhat scare me.

Time again for Tennessee Ernie Ford’s rousing rendition of the iconic Union marching song.

Sherman made good on his promise to make Georgia howl and many of them are howling to this day. Any mention of Sherman’s March will drive secesh apologists and Confederate zombies into a frothing rage; a response I count as a bonus. They have consequently bestirred themselves to infest the comments for this video in force. There are plenty of loyalist commenters to counter the rebel invective, lies, and delusions though. People are waking up, it is time to consign the “Lost Cause” to the dustbin of history, along with witch burning, the divine right of kings, and phlogiston theory.

Btw, Ernie Ford was born and reared in the Union stronghold of Bristol County.

Relax. Deep breath. You don’t have to fix every bug the minute it comes in. Granted, it’s great if you can, but users expect bugfixes to take time because software companies can’t turn around releases in a day like Jane Programmer can.

I wonder what’s going to happen with that “free speech” (read anti-Muslim hate rally) that’s due to be held next Saturday in Charleston:

So much like Mother Teresa! He’s quite the thoughtful guy, don’t you think? On Facebook, Ritzheimer was excited to share an announcement for another “Free Speech” rally scheduled for June 27 in Charleston, South Carolina; he also shared with TPM his advice for anyone who wants to organize such a rally:

“Make a fake, their own fake Facebook account — a John Doe — and set the event up like that,” he said. “You don’t want this spotlight. I didn’t, I — this is not what I intended. I don’t like the spotlight. It’s hot and it burns.”

[…]

wonkette.com

I guess the pea-brain’s enthusiasm was sapped because the link to his announcement is “unavailable” now. The other link, presumably put up by the organizers, still works. There doesn’t seem to be much enthusiasm for it either though as out of 418 invited it looks like only 75 have said they’re going and there are 24 maybes. If you go there, do NOT read the comments unless you have a string stomach.

You know what? I hope a whole bunch of those assholes show up armed to the teeth and that the DHS & FBI is there taking photos & writing down names & license plate numbers.

The Seven Stages of Gun Violence (updated)

Because it always has to be updated.

It’s been two three years since I first wrote this on the day after a madman stepped into a darkened movie theater in Aurora, Colorado and started killing people. Since then more than ten twenty thousand Americans have died from gun violence, three seven times more than died on September 11th, 2001, more than all the military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. There have been so many mass shootings between the day I wrote this and now that I’ve lost track, one killing blurs into another and the bloody rampages seem to be our new national pastime.

I am not even saying that Root was a typical conservative but his views were definitely of the right wing and to try to claim him as a liberal is just obscene. It’s like conservatives have it programmed in their brains that they can’t ever admit that people right of center are capable of evil. Oh Hitler? He was a lefty. Neo-Nazi who despises black people, Jews, etc? Liberal. Really assholes stop lying to yourselves. Racism in this country has mostly been a problem courtesy of the right wing.Does that mean your average American conservative is a white supremacist? There’s also the point that I’m pretty sure Gen. Jackson would not have approved of gunning down women as Roof did, even if they were black.

It’s worth noting that Lee and Jackson made a very bad choice in the cause they served, but they did do their best to wage a ‘clean’ war, and in the East such efforts were generally successful.

In the West of course, things were different, especially when it came to the Confederate cavalry under the capable but horrific Nathan Bedford Forrest, quite likely the most brutal general America has produced.

When the Democrats were getting their asses kicked and seen as being too left wing in the 80’s, there was a movement led by eventual President Clinton to bring the party to the center. You haven’t seen any such thing with the Republican party leaders. In fact you’ve seen them grow more right wing since Obama’s two wins. Republican candidates who would have been fringe in the Bush years are easy bets to win Republican primaries.

I would actually disagree with you there. I don’t put Lee and Jackson in the same place I do Forrest but it is true that captured African-American soldiers were sent into slavery by the Confederates. I understand what you’re saying. I don’t think Stonewall or Lee would have condemned executing innocent women either but I think their reputations are romanticized a bit.

Since he’s the biggest wingnut in his county, I see a bit of a problem.

Oh, problems there are multitude, and Arpaio is an ass, to be sure. But he does appear to me to have some belief in what he regards as his duty and he knows that he will look bad if he fails at it. Black churches being attacked will count as a major failure on the part local law enforcement right now, and that means that there are otherwise wingnutty sheriffs who will work hard to ensure such attacks don’t happen.

Joe Arpaio isn’t sending out men to guard black churches out of the goodness of his heart, he’s doing it because he is afraid of looking like a failure in the eyes of the press and he’s afraid of giving the Department of Justice another angle on which to investigate him. I’ll take law enforcement doing the right thing out of fear. i’d rather have them act from a purer place, but most important is that no asshole is able to emulate DipShit (As I plan to call Dylann Storm Roof whenever possible for the short term).

Because too much of that manifesto is shit they’ve found themselves saying at one time or another. Like suggesting that what we’ve told about slavery are “myth and lies,” using the statistics about how many people owned slaves or testimonials about “happy slaves” to argue that slavery wasn’t all that bad.

At a news conference [in 1996] researchers studying the skeleton said the ancient man was “Caucasoid,” an archaic, 19th-century term that includes a wide swath of people with origins in Africa, Western Asia and Europe. Reporters heard the word “Caucasian,” and all of a sudden people were wondering how a European showed up in North America and was shot thousands of years before Europeans set foot on the continent, Meltzer said.

“That was the moment when all the wheels fell off and this became quite the mess,” Meltzer told Live Science.

Looks like an interesting read. I’m actually reading a biography of a Union civil war general right now- Meagher. I think Lee just couldn’t bring himself to admit that his state was in the wrong. I think he wrongly looked over that as a military officer he took an oath to the United States not the state of Virginia and remember I am a Virginian. I do think Lee is overly romanticized and I attribute a lot of that to the Lost Cause written by subordinates who worshiped him.

Shrug. Never understood the fascination with someone who failed to do what was right and failed as a general when it mattered most. Old “Fuss & Feathers” Winfield Scott was just as much a Virginian and made first the right choice and then expressed the strategy that would, in the end, bring the traitors to their knees. It all comes down to who writes history. But yes Scott should be remembered today as should George Thomas. I think the Lee mythology is aided by that he had subordinates who worshiped him and his connections to Washington. Another fact that I think a lot of people do not know is every single state sent volunteers to defend the Union.

It was an accident and I’ve reversed it. Thanks for catching that.

He might be just be trying to make sure no wingnuts in his county try something similar. Terrorism is sometimes contagious and it will reflect quite badly on Joe Arpaio if a black church in Phoenix is hit by an arson attack.

Or doing the usual Joe. Buttin’ in everything to get his fat face in the news. No regard for anyone or any thing when Joe can score some points for Joe.

He and Trump would make a lovely couple.

can attest to that, my shiba inu licked one (they’re usually out during our monsoon season) and we were able to save him by essentially washing and wiping his mouth free of the toxins. But the toxins give them a fever that can essentially elevate their internal temps killing them.

and they just look like any other frogs

Oh noes! Somebody tell the illustrious ‘journalist’ Chas. C. Johnson that Deray wants to take down something!!

I have read some of the sickest things on the internet since the shooting and while it is disheartening I am seeing lots of pushback from people who are fed up with people making excuses for racists. I am very glad to see this and we need more of it. I know I have been beating on more than a few of the morans in denial at my other hangouts (unfortunately infested with tons of ‘libertarian’ tech weenies).

Kinda OT:

Q: What do black people hear when they listen to Fox News?

A: White noise.

Yeah and I’m sure he’s ashamed of all the speaking fees he gets at conservative organizations which made his work sacrosanct in their respective socio-political and socio-economic dogma.
