Council of Conservative Citizens: Dylann Roof Had “Legitimate Grievances”

They can’t help revealing how deranged they are
Wingnuts • Views: 59,973

Tonight the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens is trying to spin away the fact that Dylann Storm Roof was inspired by their vile hate speech, by sending their spokesman Jared Taylor out to tell the media Roof had “legitimate grievances” about “black on white crime.”

And they take it a step further into open incitement, saying, “Ignoring legitimate grievances is dangerous.”

These are some of the most deranged, dangerous people in America.

The C of CC unequivocally condemns Roof’s murderous actions.

However, the council stands unshakably behind the facts on its website, and points out the dangers of denying the extent of black-on-white crime.

Every year, there are about 500,000 violent , interracial crimes. Of these, about 85 percent are committed by blacks against whites.

Every year, there are some 20,000 rapes of white women by blacks, but rapes by white men of black women are so unusual, they scarcely appear in crime statistics.

If these figures were reversed—if there were wide-spread white-on-black rape and violence—it would be constant national news. Instead, the true nature of interracial violence is ignored.

This is dangerous. Our society’s silence about these crimes—despite enormous amounts of attention to “racially tinged” acts by whites—only increase the anger of people like Dylann Roof. This double standard *only makes acts of murderous frustration more likely*.

In his manifesto, Roof outlines other grievances felt by many whites. Again, we utterly condemn Roof’s despicable killings, but they do not detract in the slightest from the legitimacy of some of the positions he has expressed. *Ignoring legitimate grievances is dangerous*.

I call BS on this claim. Or maybe it is true, but only so because the black women are afraid to speak out about their white rapists.

They also of course ignore for years that white men who raped black women got away with it for years while black men who so much as looked at a white woman wrong would have to fear for their lives. Again it’s yet another reason why this country club KKK outfit can go fuck themselves.

I had never seen that, what an incredible sleazebag Charles Murray is. Particularly relevant to the current topic from that SHAME page:

Murray’s book project proposal for Losing Ground made clear its race-baiting purpose: “a huge number of well-meaning whites fear that they are closet racists, and this book tells them they are not. It’s going to make them feel better about things they already think but do not know how to say.”

25 HappyWarrior  Jun 21, 2015 8:32:30pm

You start out in 1954 by saying, “N-word, n-word, n-word.” By 1968 you can’t say “n-word” — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights and all that stuff. You’re getting so abstract now [that] you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I’m not saying that. But I’m saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “N-word, n-word.”
Lee Atwater. And the n-word was something I did because I know that word is not welcomed.

Every year, there are about 500,000 violent , interracial crimes. Of these, about 85 percent are committed by blacks against whites.

Whites make up about 85% of the population, but I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.
Of course, they’re not quoting those stats accurately anyway. In reality, blacks commit crimes against whites less often than would be expected by random chance.

Story I’ve heard is poor widdle Dylann was furious that a black guy took the girl he was interested in. Hey, sucks to lose a girl to a romantic rival. Most every guy has been there but A) she’s not your property and B) You’re entitled to her simply because you are white.

31 HappyWarrior  Jun 21, 2015 8:37:52pm

Frankly the right’s been looking for an “intellectual” justification for racism for some time now. WFB didn’t divorce the NR from the Birchers becaus the Birchers were wrong, he felt they made the right look stupid and prone to conspiracy theories. He was on board with their red baiting and seeing communists most everywhere. The right’s racism really never went away and if you think I’m wrong. Look at the fact that Reagan originally opposed the MLK Holiday, that his administration supported Dylann’s favorite Apartheid South Africa, the crap that Nixon said on the Nixon tapes, and the whisper campaign in this very state of South Carolina no less about John McCain’s adoptive daughter in 2000.

This event made me rejoin LGF after many years.

I checked out the CCC website - I didn’t fact check their overall stats (do LGFers fact check anymore?) - but many of their crime references are inner city violence stories. And all of them had the perpetrators arrested. There are no cases of blacks “getting away” with crimes against whites. Unless CCC wants collective retribution - and wouldn’t that open up a can of racial worms after the history of slavery and Jim crow - their “grievances” have never been ignored.

re: #77 Kragar

yeah, but it wasn’t REALLY about slavery….. ///////////

I can understand it, it’s the same thing that Elizabeth Warren caught so much crap for. She was told all throughout her life that she was part Native American, through dinner table discussions with the elders and family gatherings it was alluded to that somebody somewhere in the tree was an American Indian.

These folks have been told all their lives that they are the proud bearers of a heritage that honors chivalry and they were simply fighting to protect their homes. For many of the enlisted soldiers and for many folks, that was even true. Remember, the vast majority of the folks in the South weren’t even wealthy enough to own slaves.

Not many folks want to face the reality that not only was this a war over the right to own a slave, it was also a class war where somehow the landed gentry convinced the yeoman farmers that if they too hoped to be rich enough to own slaves one day, well they had better stand up for those rights, hadn’t they? The 1% strikes again! Plus you have the types of folks who lived in the south, a bunch of old anglo-saxon reiver folks from the English and Scottish marches, old irish indentured servants that were poor and hacked their existence out of the wilderness, just as soon as Andrew Jackson expelled all of those injuns…. These folks weren’t keen on authority over in England and not exactly the kind who would have a boatload of respect for a national authority. Land, property, something tangible that they could see and touch, yeah, they could identify with that, hence why they were suckers for the argument from the American “Aristocracy” as it was.

A lot of that is STILL evident today, incredibly tribal. This kind of shit dies hard and fits a good number of these folks like an old glove, We’re taking their cherished heritage and holding it up to the light of day and showing them that the vast majority of this “heritage” is a long perpetrated self-delusional sham and that’s not easy for them to swallow.

This is why those asshats in Texas trying to introduce all of this revisionist history ought to be drummed out of education altogether

The best I could do in short order was a reasonability test on their rape numbers. I was just trying to get a sense of how and how much they are BSing. Extrapolating the stats of unknown assailants (stranger rape), I get maybe 6k versus their 20-30k. And of course there are no “grievances” for the white men committing rapes against white women, which they do in equal numbers.

The CCC, Coulter opines, is “a conservative group” that has unfairly been branded as racist “because some of the directors of the CCC had, decades earlier, been leaders of a segregationist group.” “There is no evidence on its Web page that the modern incarnation of the CCC supports segregation,” she says. “Apart from some aggressive reporting on black-on-white crimes — the very crimes that are aggressively hidden by the establishment media — there is little on the CCC website suggesting” that the group is racist. Indeed, its main failing is “containing members who had belonged to a segregationist group thirty years earlier.”

You make some good points. Reading your comment, it occurred to me that at the opening of the Civil War the Constitution had only been ratified for around seventy years. Maybe that wasn’t enough time for everyone to agree on the limits to the powers of the federal government. If so, they went down one hell of a road to sort things out.

Yeah, that’s where most of the “heritage” BS comes from, the romanticized “Gone with the Wind” version of history with gorgeous plantations ruled by Southern aristocracy, happy slaves who were treated ever so nicely by their masters, and that the evils of the March to the Sea and the Reconstruction destroyed this veritable paradise and replaced it with a hell where slaves that had enjoyed lives of plenty on the plantations became little more than animals once set free.

don’t get me wrong, not trying to excuse the behavior, just saying that there are some deep roots that need to be dug up and these folks (hell, i would say damn near everyone) aren’t keen on having their issues exposed. Could have been, should have been done post the war, but Booth fucked that up royally. Not saying that Lincoln could have met that challenge and succeeded, but we’ll never get to know and Andrew Johnson wasn’t the man who was prepared to do so. Plus Lincoln pissed off a LOT of people while he was conducting the war and post hostilities, a lot of knives came out, and better angels were at a premium.

But nope, no racism here at all…

95 goddamnedfrank  Jun 21, 2015 10:58:03pm

There seem to be two opposite definitions of race baiting. The first one is just a louder dog whistle, usually directed by white conservatives at minorities, where a white person intentionally says something they know is shitty but doesn’t rise to the level of an overt slur. If a minority calls the racist on this it’s as a result of the listeners intelligence, being able to recognize an often thinly veiled racist meme. Unlike the second use of the term by conservatives, this is actually a defensible reaction even when it is in response to deliberate trolling.

The second definition, which is what conservatives accuse civil rights activists of doing, isn’t actually a real thing. Conservative white people aren’t dumb fish that can’t help but say racist shit when presented with an appropriate lure that might not exist if some activist striving for social justice didn’t entrap them with it. Because there is never a justification for saying racist shit. They use the term race baiting / race baiters as a way of accusing those striving for equality of some unsportsmanlike conduct, like conservatives are fucking game animals incapable of not squeaking out racist utterances when called like ducks and turkeys. Their entire use of the term is self depreciating, only they’re too stupid to realize it.

Did you get anywhere with the FBI stats?

The best I could do in short order was a reasonability test on their rape numbers. I was just trying to get a sense of how and how much they are BSing. Extrapolating the stats of unknown assailants (stranger rape), I get maybe 6k versus their 20-30k. And of course there are no “grievances” for the white men committing rapes against white women, which they do in equal numbers.

Darktown was an African-American neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia. It stretched from Peachtree Street and Collins Street (now Courtland Street), past Butler Ave. (now Jesse Hill Jr. Ave.) to Jackson Street.[1] It referred to the blocks above Auburn Avenue in what is now Downtown Atlanta and the Sweet Auburn neighborhood.

Darktown was characterized in the 1930s as a “hell-hole of squalor, degradation, sickness, crime and misery”.[2]
The term “darktown” was also used generically in Atlanta and the rest of the South to refer to African-American districts. It is used as such in the title of the famous song Darktown Strutters’ Ball.[3]

Every area had its own “Mason-Dixon LIne”. In Gary, Indiana, it used to be Interstate 94, then when blacks broke out of that neighborhood in the 70’s, it was 52nd Avenue (also the border to the neighboring all-white suburb of Merrillville)

BTW, in order to disassociate itself, the city of East Gary has reverted to its original name of Lake Station, Indiana.

Louisville, KY, had/has the “West End” — roughly everything west of 7th Street (running N-S) and north of Algonquin Parkway (running more or less E-W. It was where a lot of the industry in town was, and to some extent still is. The West End is not strictly African-American anymore.

When I was in college I learned that Princeton, NJ, had/has “North Princeton,” where most of the African-American maintenance staff for the university lived. Likewise, Casper, Wyoming, had/has “North Casper,” where I had my very first bowl of southern-style grits and biscuits and gravy.

Describing the demographics of Long Island, where I grew up, is well nigh impossible now for me. But, my tony school district was basically carved out from a larger one that included the predominantly African-American sections of Huntington township. You can probably guess about when that happened. So, I went to schools that were 99.99% white, save for one or two Asian kids that had been adopted or born of “war brides.” Our first black student came when I was a sophomore in high school, and her mom was a live-in maid. One kid out of 1200 students — integration!!

There was no big deal about her enrolling, by the way. I think she even ended up on the cheerleader squad.

“The legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination in almost every institution of our lives, you know, that casts a long shadow, and that’s still part of our DNA that’s passed on. We’re not cured of it,” Obama said in the interview, posted in full on Monday. “And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say ‘n——-’ in public. That’s not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It’s not just a matter of overt discrimination. … Societies don’t overnight completely erase everything that happened 2-300 years prior.”

You start out in 1954 by saying, “N****r, n****r, n****r.” By 1968 you can’t say “n*****”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites…. “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “N****r, n****r.” - Lee Atwater

As the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to rule on same-sex marriage, Yahoo News presents a new 30-minute documentary, “Uniquely Nasty: The U.S. Government’s War on Gays,” reported and narrated by chief investigative correspondent Michael Isikoff. The film explores a dark and little-known chapter in America’s recent political past, when gays and lesbians were barred from working for the federal government and the FBI, through its”sex deviates” program, secretly collected hundreds of thousands of files on the sex lives of American citizens.

“Uniquely Nasty” includes never-before-seen government memos by legendary FBI director J. Edgar Hoover (read by George Takei) and John Steele, a top lawyer for the U.S. Civil Service Commission (read by Matt Bomer) asserting that gays were “not suitable” for federal employment. “Uniquely Nasty” is divided into three chapters.

Meet The Heat Press!

The Wrap - ‘Meet the Press’ Host Chuck Todd Takes Heat for Airing ‘Offensive’ Gun Video

—CUT—

Todd became a trending topic on Twitter, with many commenters blasting “Meet the Press” for airing the video at all.

“In all seriousness, @meetthepress & @chucktodd did a show today that will be used as an example of offensive, tone deaf media for years,” tweeted Dave Zirin, host of Edge of Sports Radio for SiriusXM.

Meanwhile, Jamil Smith, an editor at left-leaning magazine The New Republic tweeted: “Nothing is without context, @chucktodd. Airing a substandard segment at possibly the worst time was a terrible decision, put mildly.”

Broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien joined the debate, tweeting: “You can tell by the VERY long intro that even @chucktodd knows this makes zero sense.”

Todd addressed the criticism later in the show, and also tweeted a link to an essay he penned on nbcnews.com.

“We’ve gotten a lot of feedback about the gun video we showed on ‘Meet the Press’ today. Some were upset it only featured African-American men talking about their regrets of pulling a trigger,” the essay said. “All of the men in the piece volunteered to be a part of the video and the larger project it is a part of. But the last thing we wanted was to cloud the discussion of the topic.”

The essay went on to explain the segment was produced before the massacre at Emanuel AME church.

Just amazing these boobs were unable to think this through and see how this would play out before they aired the segment.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a supreme example of and the very definition of clueless.

And I sure would be interested in MTPs staff makeup and if anyone on it said “what are we doing?” and was overruled by The Todd.

Another thing we’ll have to keep in mind is, even if the Supremes rule the subsidies constitutional, there will be another challenge against the ACA. The wingnuts will just follow the same route with a new case, shopping around til they find a judge who will rule against the White House, and then the four conservative justices again agreeing to take the laughably asinine case up.

The “x” flag was the battle flag, mainly adopted since the Stars and Bars flag looks too much like the US flag on a battlefield, especially with no wind.

In May 1863 they adopted a new national flag (The Stainless Banner) which has the “x” design in a field on a white flag. Which has the obvious shortcoming of looking just like a white flag in no wind. So… in 1865 they went with a third design that added some red to the white part so that it didn’t look like a white flag.

A lot of regiments kept their old battle flags throughout the war, which is why if you see some in a museum they are pretty raggedy due to weathering and having lots of holes shot in them.

Meet the image detective who roots out manuscript flaw

Jana Christopher has one of the rarest jobs in science publishing. Working for the publishers EMBO Press, in Heidelberg, Germany, she checks all images in manuscripts accepted by the publisher’s four scientific journals in an effort to spot aberrations before the papers are published. Nature spoke to her at the sidelines of the 4th World Conference on Research Integrity in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in early June.

[….]

How many manuscripts have flaws?
Around 20% of the papers that we check just before acceptance have issues that need to be rectified. Most of those are cases of naive ‘beautification’, in which images are altered to look prettier or simply because of an accident when the paper was put together. Around 1% of those amount to manipulation that is so serious that we don’t publish the manuscript as a result. So that’s pretty low, but still significant.

Very interesting read.

And spare parts have to be custom made by hand and preferably transported and installed without using any power tools.

WW2. Did he lose his calendar?

This, probably:

During World War II some U.S. military units with Southern nicknames, or made up largely of Southerners, made the flag their unofficial emblem. The USS Columbia flew a Confederate Navy Ensign as a battle flag throughout combat in the South Pacific in World War II. This was done in honor of Columbia, the ship’s namesake and the capital city of South Carolina, the first state to secede from the Union. Some soldiers carried Confederate flags into battle. After the Battle of Okinawa a Confederate flag was raised over Shuri Castle by a Marine from the self-styled “Rebel Company” (Company A of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines). It was visible for miles and was taken down after three days on the orders of General Simon B. Buckner, Jr. (son of Confederate general Simon Buckner, Sr.), who stated that it was inappropriate as “Americans from all over are involved in this battle”. It was replaced with the regulation, 48-star flag of the United States.[33] By the end of World War II, the use of the Confederate flag in the military was rare.[34]

it plays over in RWNJtopia because they know that Liberals are the real racists… after all, that’s why we liberals wanted to integrate them into our schools, and allow people of differing skin pigmentations to marry. And misses (on purpose) that liberals don’t burn flags, they just hold it as your right to burn one in protest if you want to and not get arrested or charged for it. Similar to liberals being pro-choice, etc. on a whole lot of social issues where they might personally find the act distasteful or not something they would do, but that does not mean others should be banned from making the choice of taking that action.

And even then, the restrictions would water the eye of any American gun-fucker. Like requiring you to actually state the reason for wanting a gun license, not just a free for all situation where you get the license and can own a small arsenal. If you cite “self-defense,” you actually have to provide evidence that your life is in danger if you’re not armed, they don’t just take your word. You want to go to the gun range? That’s entered into the system and if you’re caught with your gun out anywhere but the gun range, you’re in trouble. Got a license for hunting but not the gun range? Same deal.

They’ve moved away from taking your weapon home and instead are keeping them in depots.

In the past you had to store your weapon partially stripped. You were issued a box or two of sealed ammunition. You could only break the seal and load the weapon under state of national emergency. This was intended to enable you fight your way to the depot.

The wingnut claim that every male in Switzerland is ‘armed’ uses the most generous possible definition of the word.

Thanks for the correction.

Vermont has 42% ownership where France has 31% ownership.

I remember being in 4th grade and calling another little boy, an African American 5th grader, “n——-” because that is what he was in my world. A n——-.

This is my pedigree.

The school principal, who was also my baseball and basketball coach heard me say this and called me into his office.

“Why did you call him that?” he asked

“Because that is what he is,” I told him with out flinching.

“What do you think that means?” he asked.

“It is another word for a black,” I said (it is important to note that we did not call them “black people.” I think subconsciously that was a little too humanizing for us. Calling them “blacks” was more simple, more to the point and noted them for what they were, a color not a person.

My principal spent the next two weeks with me (in detention) talking with me about that word, what it means and what it does to people when they hear it. He spent 2 weeks, every day with me in his office talking, working through these ideas and helping me understand that words and symbols carry deep, impacting meaning and they should be handled with great care and respect.

He was my salvation.

He saved me from the depravity of racism, the ignorance of inequality and the suffocating quicksand of hatred.

Years later when I realized what I had done, how I had been raised to think and who I was going to be, my stomach sank.

Hedgehog defense. You’re not worth the effort it would take to conquer. Plus the infrastructure (tunnels, bridges, etc.) that might make you useful as a transit point elsewhere will be destroyed as well. In addition to the opportunity cost of losing the country as a convenient non-threatening neutral you can make use of.

From my limited knowledge I don’t think that Switzerland had the fifth column of Volksdeutsche that Czechoslovakia had. As I recall most of those defences were in the area where the Volksdeutsche lived and might not have been reliable. The Slovak part of Czechoslovakia was too happy about being part of that country as well.

Switzerland was another kettle of fish altogether.

I’ve always felt that his trial was a crock & that he should have been retried as a result. That does not mean that I have much doubt of his guilt.

I read quite a bit about the case, arguments of both sides, as well as all available judgments (which I found to be great sources as far as debunking of Mumia’s increasingly implausible arguments is concerned) and my considered opinion is that the arguments against the first trial, and esp. for a retrial mostly do not hold water and are based on lawyers’ and activists’ distortions.

The moment of truth for the GOP is when people point out that maybe it is not just the South Carolina statehouse where the Beauregard flag should be taken down. What about the Georgia and Mississippi state flags?

A lot of people assume the whole Arkansas flag has something to do with the confederacy, but just the blue star above the word Arkansas (added in 1923, not in response to civil rights legislation) represents that. Arkansas did not even have a state flag until 1912.

And the Democrats have rejected that flag for decades while the GOP has candidates that are happy to embrace it and apologize for the CSA. And as a student of history let me point out something else, I won’t say the Democratic Party of the 1860’s was great or a party I would have supported but I want to point out that it’s an utter lie that all Democrats supported the Confederacy. A lot of the Union’s generals were Democrats and Lincoln’s old debate opponent, Stephen Douglas offered up strong support to the Union. And there were former Southern Whigs(Whigs became the GOP remember) that supported the CSA. Now the GOP to its credit was pro-union all the way because the party to its credit was established to oppose the expansion of slavery and it consisted of former Democrats, Whigs, even Know-Nothings, etc.

Glad to see. Will SC wait until the next Lege, or call a special session?

The next question will be “Does Haley keep her job?”.

She just got re-elected in November, and Just to remind everyone, when her Democratic opponent brought up the flag issue:

Vincent Sheheen was joined by the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor Bakari Sellers and several mayors in calling for the removal of the flag. Sheheen becomes the most prominent political voice to call for the flag’s removal.

Haley’s deputy campaign manager Rob Godfrey called Sheheen’s move, about a month before the Nov. 4 election, “desperate and irresponsible.”

Entries in long-hidden notebook show Pete Rose bet on baseball as player

For 26 years, Pete Rose has kept to one story: He never bet on baseball while he was a player.

Yes, he admitted in 2004, after almost 15 years of denials, he had placed bets on baseball, but he insisted it was only as a manager.

But new documents obtained by Outside the Lines indicate Rose bet extensively on baseball — and on the Cincinnati Reds — as he racked up the last hits of a record-smashing career in 1986. The documents go beyond the evidence presented in the 1989 Dowd report that led to Rose’s banishment and provide the first written record that Rose bet while he was still on the field.

This is very unfortunate. Public opinion about Pete Rose has swayed in his favor over the last several years. I’m glad this information finally came out and now he’ll never be in the Hall of Fame.

Lots of sites have banned the n-word for whatever reason, you are free not to use them. And you are free to be a racist, just don’t expect that expressing your views is going to go without consequences.

And then there is the matter of context and nuance. I recall the blow up concerning use of n**** in Hucleberry Finn, where, in the context of the book it is both appropriate and vital to the telling of the story.

But we her people say “If Chris Rock can use it in his stand up routine, why can’t I spread it all over Twitter and Facebook?!

and we have to give up. Nuance and context are dead concepts in modern discourse.

My Conservative former-friend was incapable of admitting he was wrong, and it locked him into a lot of delusions created by hate-radio. There was no helping him.

My observations of conservatives is they really do view conservatism in an idealized light. Now I value my liberalism but I’m my own man first.

It’s classic right wing debate. First they defend the flag and now it becomes the “left’s” fault. Conservatives are fundamentally incapable I’ve come to realize of admitting when they’re wrong. Everything has to be the left or Democratic Party’s fault.

Yep, spend days defending the flag and the “heritage” it represents…and then immediately switch gears without a clutch to declare that it’s a “trap” to support the flag.

I’ve currently got an RWNJ dipshit telling me that the reason the Confederate flag is still flying over the SC state capitol is Fritz Hollings, who left office in 2005. There’s no explanation for why the GOP hasn’t taken it down since he left office.

Moron.

Bakari Sellers, a former state representative, signed multiple fruitless bills during his tenure in the Legislature to have the flag removed from the Statehouse. He also advocated for it to be taken down during his unsuccessful run for lieutenant governor in 2014.

A good article about when they moved the flag from the dome to the grounds:

partners.nytimes.com

Of particular interest:

Almost every business group and religious organization in the state urged that it come down, both on economic and moral grounds. Mayor Joseph P. Riley of Charleston recently led a widely publicized 120-mile protest march from the seacoast to Columbia. Scores of sports and cultural events, along with many conventions, canceled their plans to come to South Carolina because of the boycott.

Those folks who wound up at Citi were gobsmcaked at some of the things Citi did, and without the cash the the card operation could plow back into Sears it made a bad situation at Sears worse. Right after the card ops were sold off, they decided to outsource IT to CSC-only to later bring everything back inhouse in a few years time at a heavy cost. Now each business line at Sears is supposed to act like its own little corporation with its own board of directors and P&L’s. They broke a long-standing contract with Whirlpool for supplying Kenmore and handed that over to LG, and lot of the Appliance front line folks are seething.

When he was 11 years old, Washington inherited 10 slaves from his father’s estate. He continued to acquire slaves — some through the death of family members and others through direct purchase. Washington’s cache of enslaved people peaked in 1759 when he married the wealthy widow Martha Dandridge Custis. His new wife brought more than 80 slaves to the estate at Mount Vernon. On the eve of the American Revolution, nearly 150 souls were counted as part of the property there.

Reluctant, hell:

During the president’s two terms in office, the Washingtons relocated first to New York and then to Philadelphia. Although slavery had steadily declined in the North, the Washingtons decided that they could not live without it. Once settled in Philadelphia, Washington encountered his first roadblock to slave ownership in the region — Pennsylvania’s Gradual Abolition Act of 1780.

The act began dismantling slavery, eventually releasing people from bondage after their 28th birthdays. Under the law, any slave who entered Pennsylvania with an owner and lived in the state for longer than six months would be set free automatically. This presented a problem for the new president.

Washington developed a canny strategy that would protect his property and allow him to avoid public scrutiny. Every six months, the president’s slaves would travel back to Mount Vernon or would journey with Mrs. Washington outside the boundaries of the state. In essence, the Washingtons reset the clock. The president was secretive when writing to his personal secretary Tobias Lear in 1791: “I request that these Sentiments and this advise may be known to none but yourself & Mrs. Washington.”

More like ‘scheming’.

Maybe conservatism isn’t racist in itself but take a healthy look in the mirror conservatives and tell me who defended segregation for years? Conservatives. Who was defending Jim Crow? Why if it wasn’t the National Review’s founder, William F. Buckley. Who voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and got nominated for president by the GOP? Hmmm Barry Goldwater. Maybe conservatism in itself isn’t racist but conservatives are living in a world of denial if they think white supremacy hasn’t been strongly advocated by the right throughout our nation’s history while the left has opposed it.

I would like to imagine there was a meeting in a smoke filled room somewhere (probably led by Karl Rove) where it was determined that having the Confederate flag as part of the GOP presidential platform would be a BAD IDEA.

Frank Luntz probably did a test with the black republican voter, and relayed the results to Rove.

Oh white supremacy is a liberal thing even though we’re the ones who continued to support Apartheid and defended Jim Crow. If conservatives could just be honest about what their ideology has been about and try dare i say like some of the European conservatives to make it a more inclusive ideology but nope. 30 years from now I guarantee you some ideological descendant of Ben Shapiro is going to be claiming that the right supported LGBT rights all along and it was the left that opposed them.

They can’t bring themselves to admit that much of our progress as a people (I mean the human race as a whole here by the way) has been due to liberalism challenging conservatism. Sure, they call the founders conservatives now but in the context of the 1770’s, they were liberals. That’s also why I find it laughable that Burke is called a conservative. He supported the American revolution and condemned the British penal laws in Ireland. Sure, he wasn’t Robespierre but he wasn’t the Council of Vienna either.

In other news, some DNA revelations:

An early European had a close Neandertal ancestor

Neandertals became extinct about 40,000 years ago but contributed on average one to three percent to the genomes of present-day Eurasians. Researchers have now analyzed DNA from a 37,000 to 42,000-year-old human mandible from Oase Cave in Romania and have found that six to nine percent of this person’s genome came from Neandertals, more than any other human sequenced to date. Because large segments of this individual’s chromosomes are of Neandertal origin, a Neandertal was among his ancestors as recently as four to six generations back in his family tree. This shows that some of the first modern humans that came to Europe mixed with the local Neandertals.

The mass media are in their usual confusion over this science stuff.

The paper is in Nature. Only the abstract is open:

An early modern human from Romania with a recent Neanderthal ancestor

Neanderthals are thought to have disappeared in Europe approximately 39,000-41,000 years ago but they have contributed 1-3% of the DNA of present-day people in Eurasia1. Here we analyse DNA from a 37,000-42,000-year-old2 modern human from Peştera cu Oase, Romania. Although the specimen contains small amounts of human DNA, we use an enrichment strategy to isolate sites that are informative about its relationship to Neanderthals and present-day humans. We find that on the order of 6-9% of the genome of the Oase individual is derived from Neanderthals, more than any other modern human sequenced to date. Three chromosomal segments of Neanderthal ancestry are over 50 centimorgans in size, indicating that this individual had a Neanderthal ancestor as recently as four to six generations back. However, the Oase individual does not share more alleles with later Europeans than with East Asians, suggesting that the Oase population did not contribute substantially to later humans in Europe.

I don’t really know much about either of them. Funnily enough, I’m heading out right now to catch the A Train to Brooklyn to feed my friends’ cats, and hoist a pint or two at a cool old (and yes, hip) Cobble Hill bar I like. Best I not mention my ignorance and just complain about my Red Sox. New Yorkers love it when I do that. ;-)

Powerful words from the MA Attorney General Maura Healy to the Charles Street AME Interfaith Service to honor the victims.

Remarks by Attorney General Maura Healey at Charles Street AME Interfaith Service to Honor Charleston Victims

Reverend Groover, Cardinal O’Malley, members of the Charles Street AME congregation, clergy and members of other congregations, brothers and sisters, thank you for allowing me to come worship with you tonight.

I come to this sanctuary heartbroken.

I come to this sanctuary heartsick.

And, I come to this sanctuary angry.

I am angry, because how many more black lives need to be sacrificed at the altar of white hate.

150 years after the Civil War. 50 years after Selma and the Voting Rights Act. Nearly 25 years after the riots in Los Angeles.

This country is not where it should be. This is racial terrorism. This is hatred. Perpetrated by an evil person whose demonic intent and actions we cannot fathom, let alone begin to understand. A despicable and most vile act.

Worse yet, he did not act in isolation, and he is not the only one accountable.

Everyone who contributed to his distorted thinking, to his hatred, to his bigotry, and to his violence is accountable. Because no child is born with hatred in his heart. No child is born with racism in her mind. Today, babies were born across this city and across our country. Children, helpless, waiting to be fed, held, made warm, comforted, and loved.

A child does not know hate, does not know disparity, does not know difference. Where does that begin?

This person was born in 1994. In 1994, people. What did he learn? What did he accumulate along the way? There were family members, there were bloggers, there was social media and TV, there were teachers and schools, and there was government, and community members who collectively are accountable. What did people do to stop it?

So what happens next then? What happens next? Where do we go from here? We focus on Charleston, but this is not just about Charleston - this is about America.

Racism, bigotry, hatred, violence persists. And it is up to all of us to change it. In government, in the boardrooms, in the classrooms, and in communities across this country.

We need action to address disparities that exist:

In voting rights,

Housing,

Employment,

Criminal justice,

Education,

In the accumulation, or not, of wealth.

We have work to do. Only when our government and our society as a whole commits to the ideals of equality and justice will our children grow up with love in their hearts rather than hatred.

Oh yeah!

Stay safe anyone in line of those nasty storms in the upper midwest.

I got caught up trying to get home in time to beat a derecho that went through Columbus back in 2012, early July,

That was the most terrifying drive I’ve ever had…and I love to drive and many times I am the designated lead car or lead driver in a storm.

That sucker came up quick. I had big trees falling a minute before trying to get through a road and getting blocked and dodging tree branches, plastic trash containers and anything else that wasn’t nailed down and fly by unidentifiable due to the wind speed and darkness. It was about 4 PM in the afternoon and looked like midnight.

Columbus got hit hard. One main road on the east side had about 20 or more telephone poles break at once and knocked out power in that part of town for days.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Mr. Backwoods_Sleuth was up here doing power restoration repairs.

Andrew,

His email was not rude, it was blunt and to the point. I seriously doubt he was intending to be rude, anyways you cant tell that through writing.

I have a suspicion that -you- are the one who sent -him- a rude email (your reply) and that is why he did not respond back to you.

I have serious, great respect for the CofCC because they are the ones who woke me up to black on white crime in the beginning. It was the first site I went to the day that changed my life, the day I decided to type in “black on white crime” into Google.

I wish you would continue to post articles from there, maybe just not the whole thing, or add text to it. And how immature of you to imply people should send him nasty things to his email.

Why dont you try sending him another email, and be a little nicer about it. I dont see what the big deal or issue is about him not wanting you to post whole articles.

You have to admit, the little link at the top of the articles in easily ignored, therefore maybe he felt offended. I remember when I first started reading DailyStormer, many times I did mistake that the articles were written by the DailyStormer when they weren’t.

Thanks Andrew.

Dylann Roof May Have Been A Regular Commenter At Neo-Nazi Website The Daily Stormer

It appears that the Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof may have been even more immersed in the online white supremacist movement than previously thought.

In an attempt to verify the authenticity of a manifesto that was uncovered Saturday morning on “The Last Rhodesian,” a website owned by Roof, Hatewatch ran the document’s full text through Grammarly, a piece of software with plagiarism detection capabilities.

Despite the fact that only 2% of the document was identified as “unoriginal” by the software, a key 18-word passage in the section labeled “Blacks” bemoaning the alleged appropriation of white culture by the rest of the world, was identified as almost identical to a comment left on an article titled “Former Swedish PM Fredrik Reinfeldt: Sweden Belongs to the Hordes, Not the “Uninteresting” Ethnic Swedes” by the user “AryanBlood1488” at The Daily Stormer.

Well, it was racism on the part of a drug addled lunatic.
Don’t see how it applies to “all white people” any more than the outrageous violent crime rate among blacks applies to “all black people.”

Has Ben Carson made similar statements condemning “knockout game”, other acts of black-on-white violence, and black-on-white crime in general?
If not, then FUBC.

Well duh. Ben’s twisting words here…and revealing he is not ready for Prime Time.

No one I know about is not calling it racism. They are just saying it isn’t an indictment on white people in general like the libs want to claim. It is one punk creep loser who decided to get attention this way. I’m guessing it had more to do with his reaction to recent news events than with any racist upbringing (per a black young man who used to be his friend). Or some other event that led him down this path.

Shame on Carson for using this. He is no better than Obama for trying to squeeze political advantage out of it

Do we really want to even consider another black enabler in the WH?

Guy is an evil lunatic.

Drop him a fishing hole, filled with pirhana…

Ok Ben, then calling innocent White people racist is Racist also. It really is.
The left accuses ALL whites on the right racist and not real racism
by the Democrats.
Over used and abused term, and now it means nothing so I don’t
give a shit anymore about it.

I guess it was a matter of time Ben Carson used his race as a political tool.
His color gives him status to decide who is racist whether real or invented.
