A Meeting of the Minds: Rand Paul and Far Right Racist Rancher Cliven Bundy

The sovereign citizen connection
Politics • Views: 64,727

Back in April 2014, Rand Paul’s father Ron came out in support of far right racist anti-government rancher Cliven Bundy (who is on video saying “the nigra” was better off under slavery), and yesterday Rand also expressed his support for Bundy’s “cause.”

This is the real Rand Paul; the guy who appears on Alex Jones’s show, who built his political career by appealing to anti-government extremists like Cliven Bundy. Don’t be fooled by his transparent pandering to some causes that appeal to liberals — he’s as extreme as it gets in US politics.

After the event, the Nevada rancher told the AP why he had come out to support Paul: “In general, I think we’re in tune with each other.”

“I don’t think we need to ask Washington, D.C., for this land. It’s our land,” Bundy added.

[…]

Paul told the AP in a separate interview that he favored federally owned land being handed back to the states. “I think almost all land use issues and animal issues, endangered species issues, ought to be handled at the state level,” he said. “I think that the government shouldn’t interfere with state decisions, so if a state decides to have medical marijuana or something like that, it should be respected as a state decision.”

What cause does Rand specifically support? The theft of resources, the failure to comply with the court, or the enlisting of armed thugs to resist law enforcement?

2 HappyWarrior  Jun 30, 2015 10:32:59am

Repost but Rand knows that the Supreme Court didn’t legalize Same Grift marriage doesn’t he? Man, old Rand’s cut from the same cloth as dear old dad, he loves bigots and loves their support.

This is just more fodder for his opponents. My only hope is that he gets his ass kicked out of the Senate.

11 Ian G.  Jun 30, 2015 10:35:48am

OK, Rand. So, hypothetically, say Colorado decides it wants to use the Colorado River as a toxic waste dump. Will, uh, Nevada ranchers who use the water be able to do anything about it if we leave these things to the states?

Also, Cliven, no, it’s not your land any more than that sweet Brooklyn Heights brownstone is mine if I climb in the window. That’s called “burglary” and it’s a felony.

2) Cliven Bundy’s ranch
3) Duggar compound
4) Sarah Palin’s Wasila home
5) Grover Norquist’s No-Tax-Retreat

15 Ian G.  Jun 30, 2015 10:38:57am

Also, the whole idea that leaving things to local authorities is somehow better for “freedom” is so daft I barely know where to begin. Next time you hear about a law enforcement brutality case, Rand, or influence peddling charges, let me know if it’s some local PD and mayor, or the feds. I know which way I’d bet.

I think it’s because he’s one of too few politicians talking about ending the war on people who choose better alternatives to alcohol. No one should support the drug war, and people are desperate for it to end, so they put up with Paul’s insane far-right-wing beliefs, thinking that’s the only way to end the ongoing attack on peaceful Americans.

Interior chief: Bundy will be held accountable

Interior Secretary Sally Jewell said Wednesday she is confident that Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy, who with armed supporters faced down federal officials over grazing cattle on public land, will be held accountable.

“Cliven Bundy has had multiple court orders to remove his cattle from federal public lands and he has not paid his grazing fees and he has not abided by the law,” Jewell told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We will continue to pursue that.”

[…]

“The safety of our law enforcement officers and the safety of people that represent land managers at every level is of paramount importance to me,” Jewell said.

“The wheels of justice move at their own pace,” Jewell said. “I am confident this issue is going to be appropriately resolved.”

If anything, I think he’s done well for himself. He’s married, has at least one kid, etc. VB said it downstairs but he was actually derping about Obama on the day of his daughter’s birth. In that way, I actually feel sorry for the guy since he’s so consumed with his hate for anything left that he couldn’t even be a father for a day and drop it.

I have to say I do not like Oliver Stone’s politics. Way too wacky left and CT but I enjoyed his Nixon bio-epic. NOt sure Anthony Hopkins who I really like was the best choice for the role but casting Nixon would be tough.

also too… Raising Arizona, since we’re mentioning Coen Brothers films… also Airplane.

Reading the new Evan Thomas biography on Nixon. It’s pretty good. Easy to read. Doesn’t get bogged down in too many details or go off on too many uninteresting tangents (like his biography of RFK).

Did not hear about the new Nixon bio. I’ll have ot look. I always heard the best before was Stephen Ambrose (better known for his WWII work)’s three volume set. Conrad Black and Jonathan Aitken(think that’s the guy’s name) also had bios but the latter which I have read some of was too sympathetic and it’s interesting given both men are convicted crooks.

Now on the subject of casting, I always wondered who could play Andrew Jackson. If you’ve ever read about Jackson, you’d know why this is a problem. Guy was like 6’1 but only a buck 40. It’d take a serious method actor.

I just got a visit from a guy who I’ve known for 20 years, but haven’t seen in a year because he’s been teaching in China. We talked about his plans for the day. He’s going to make cookies with his son. Then we talked about training wheels. and he told me how his son is doing. I said, ‘He’s ready for them to come off. And if he gets a cookie HE MADE right after his first ride without ‘em, he’ll remember this day forever.’

Seven years after they first charmed viewers on 19 Kids And Counting, the Duggar family’s seemingly perfect world is beginning the crumble.

I never found them charming and can proudly say I switched away from their show as quickly as possible every time it appeared if I was channel surfing. I never watched a minute of that Honey BooBoo crap either. I’m mystified by the fact that millions of people found them entertaining or worthy of their time.
