Music comes before hip-hop

Amir Elkhalifa, a.k.a. Oddisee, is an emergent standout in hip-hop. The Prince Georges County, Md., native says he made his new album, The Good Fight, as a reminder that music comes before hip-hop; that music can trigger indescribable feelings; that music is a meditation on our capacity to love; and, finally, that our ambition and greed are in constant conflict with our sense of propriety.

Simply put, Oddisee’s music is genius. He creates just the right amount of space, allowing it to breathe with perfectly timed cadences and vamps. His deceptively intricate rhythm tracks interlock with complementary harmonies and brilliantly constructed bars in ways that appeal to both diehard hip-hop heads — those who decipher and analyze lyrics as a hobby — and those who just want a clutch beat. He’s got it all.

It actually makes me a little sad. I really liked his movies when I was a kid and I still do love Dumb and Dumber after all these years. I’ve known he was an anti-vaccine nutjob for some time and I don’t refuse to see people’s products over their views but Jim is be-clowning himself.

I don’t blame you. What a fucking asshole seriously. I saw his tweet. I think the anti-vaccine movement in this country is the most dangerous along with the religious right.

I’m pretty sure the Founding Fathers - if they were able to observe the United States today - would be absolutely aghast at the anti-science and atavism that’s going on. They founded this country on Enlightenment principles; unfettered free inquiry, science, discovery, philosophy, music, freedom from the shackles of organized religion, etc. etc. The United States today doesn’t stand for that shit. We’re all about HAULIN ASS AND GETTIN PAID now.

That’s what pisses me off the most. I don’t have much of a science background at all. One semester of biology and one of environmental science, just needed two semesters of science for my history degree but the difference is I look at scientists as people who have spent their lives researching this stuff first as their majors as undergraduates and then graduates and now for their careers. And as a man on the spectrum, I can’t tell you how much I resent vaccines being used to make up crap about Autism .

I’m taking lawhawk’s rigid stance on vaccinations. You either vaccinate your kids or get relentlessly shunned, ridiculed and brought down to size until your kids get vaccinated or they die.

Same almost goes for global warming for me. I say almost because there’s a number of close friends of mine who seriously question global warming. I can only say so much to them about it, fact of the matter is some of my friends (yes, folks my age, I was born in ‘82) get most of their information from Fox News and cruddy conservative memes on Facebook, despite the very decent education they got at public school (we went to the same schools, how come I never watch Fox News [unless at MediaMatters or something] and they do?). I’m going to give it another decade or more before I renounce those folks. They’re dear friends, folks I’ve known since I was a small child. So, we’ll see.

I had an excellent public education experience. In the county in Colorado I grew up in (think Vail Ski Area and everything 40 miles to the west), schools are paid for with property taxes and voter-approved bonds. I opened my first email account (at excite dot com, remember that site?!?) at my public school in 1995. We had (have) the funds to have all kinds of cool shit at our schools.

This has been a check on teleskiguy’s privilege.

34 freetoken  Jul 1, 2015 10:30:57pm

I had an ok public education. Unfortunately my high school didn’t have a calculus class, but few did way back then. So I started college a bit deficient for jumping right into physics.

Went back to the home town last year, and see that my grade school is now home to some kind of employment co-op, and my junior high school is now something other than a school. The place I was born has been gutted by the rust-belt syndrome, though its industries were not classic rust belt type of companies.

Anyway, education is by and large indoctrination, it always has been. The truly clever will make it through this and find out ways to survive in the harsh world. Personally I’ve found the brightest people to be artists, not necessarily those who hold degrees from fancy universities.

I kind of feel that that hardest thing for them to adjust to would be women’s equality. One can make a strong argument I think that much of the old time racism and homophobia was wrapped up in misogyny. White male society saw the safeguarding of white female virtue as a reason to fear black men, while the slaveowners of the era raped black women with impunity. Even after slavery stories of blacks raping white women were common lynch language. Emmett Till was murdered for simply whistling at one, while white men continued to rape black women and get away with it. Similarly one can place misogyny at the root of homophobia, because it was seen as subverting the traditional male role as the head of the family from both ends. Gay males were seen as womanish and therefore not worthy of respect or dignity, while lesbian couples were seen as a direct threat to the male role of head of household.

I’m sitting here daydreaming that maybe someone will call from work. “Hey, it was all a misunderstanding, can you come back?”

How pathetic is that?

Getting stuff packed up. Trash is taken out, laundry is done, outdoor pot of tomatoes is watered (took over 5 gallons of water, apparently I’m letting them get too dry). Indoor plants… getting some reverse osmosis water made to water them, hope to leave with them full of water and 2 gallons to spare… which honestly probably won’t be enough.

Still haven’t gotten a spare copy of my key to my buddy to come water them… I have idea what I’m gonna do if I lose my collection of carnivorous plants on top of everything else?

No direct deposit yet, but it’s still early — although I’ve heard that they make you come down and pick up your final check in person. I’ll probably have to get a ride down to Nevada to get my final check after I get back in town.

Donald Trump’s comments on immigration complicate GOP’s ‘Latino problem’

You don’t say.

But as Latinos reel in anger and celebrities and corporate sponsors drop their associations with Trump, the Republican Party’s other presidential hopefuls face an increasingly uncomfortable choice: engage with Trump and elevate his already high visibility, or stay silent and risk appearing to condone his statements. So far, most have said little, hoping the controversy will fade.

It’s the latest Latino problem for the GOP, which will have great difficulty winning the White House if it fails to expand its overwhelmingly white base to include minorities. The problem will only worsen if Trump continues to do well enough in polls to qualify for the party’s televised debates.

The real problem is that the GOP base is eating it up. Just by being his terrible self Trump has managed to re-expose to both the racist core of the Republican electorate and the absolutely craven nature of the party’s leadership.

The GOP leadership had their chance to challenge or at least distance themselves from such rhetoric. They chose to play it safe and kept their mouth shut to avoid being shouted down at town hall meetings by some goombah in a tricorne hat carrying a Gadsen flag. Now it is coming back to bite them in the ass.

Before it was just an unlikely fantasy of mine, but now, with all of this validation he’s getting from the troglodyte base, I think there’s a real chance that Trump will pull a PEA-row after he flunks out of the GOP primaries.

Drive-by post:

Which makes an important point: The connection in that teacher’s mind between autism and the vaccines her child received was not evidence based, but a visceral one. Getting her mostly past it required time, well-crafted explanations, and a great deal of empathy. Shunning would not have worked as well. Oh it likely would have gotten the kids the vaccines, but using that kind of ‘iron fist approach’ tends to make the person subjected to it hate those who employed it.

We used to have a department store called J. L. Hudson that was in business for like 100 years. They had a main store downtown and anchor stores at all the major malls.

They closed the downtown store in 1984 (Thanks Ronnie!), which was a fucking LANDMARK.

Then they were taken over by Marshall Field, and then Marshall Field was eated by Macy’s.

I used to spend a shit ton of money at Hudson’s, Macy’s not so much but I still have a card. I should buy some stuff.

To say former Virginia governor and U.S. senator George Allen has evolved on gay rights is an understatement. His shift is more revolution than evolution.

Allen, once a vocal gay-rights foe, was among those applauding Friday as the Supreme Court affirmed the right of same-sex couples to marry.

“Similar to many other people, my views have evolved through friends and associates,” Allen said in an interview with The Washington Post.

Yeah, Marshall Field owned The Bon for many years before Macy’s bought them out. We also used to have Frederick & Nelson, which was Seattle’s version of Neimann-Marcus—their downtown store really was a landmark. They gradually became just a Bon Marché clone, only with higher prices. This is not a valid business model.

The real loss was Frangos (chocolates). You can still buy them, first at the Bon and now Macy’s, but they’re Chicago Frangos, which are different from Seattle Frangos. Plus, they’re in a standard candy box. What good are they without the hexagonal-prism box that’s impossible to giftwrap so you can’t tell what it is?

I would recommend the book What is America? by Ronald Wright.

The basic thesis is that the author divides America into Enlightenment America and Backwoods America. The latter has always lived at the edge of the nation, moving steadily westward as civilization encroached on their farms, and as they exhausted the resources of the area they lived in. Backwoods America has always disliked and distrusted Enlightenment America, and now that there is no frontier that dislike has often festered into hatred and denial.

When I say they want the Good Old Days™ back this is what I’m talking about. They want those days where they lived on hardscrabble farms and no one except God told them what to do.

Anyway, education is by and large indoctrination, it always has been. The truly clever will make it through this and find out ways to survive in the harsh world. Personally I’ve found the brightest people to be artists, not necessarily those who hold degrees from fancy universities.

My own observation of the educational system is that it is an assembly line. Not to turn people into human beings capable of citizenship but rather human resources suitable for employment.

Pittsburgh had the great Kaufmann’s, including these murals and Frank Lloyd Wright interiors. The owner built Falling Water.

I vaxxed each of my kids, because it’s what SCIENCE recommended, and I can’t imagine putting them at risk for some stupid crusade like this. I’m angry, and I’m not going to put up with their bullshit. You risk my kids for your little anti-science crusade, and I’m gonna rise up and kick your ass. :(

I got vaccinated, my brother got vaccinated, and his kids all get vaccinated. But mom couldn’t get vaccinated due to her ongoing health condition, which meant that everyone else around her was a potential threat if they weren’t vaccinated - like for pneumonia or influenza or measles or mumps. It pisses me off to no end when people ignore the science, and the threat they pose to everyone else when they don’t get vaccinated (or don’t vaccinate their kids) - putting everyone at needless risk of entirely preventable illnesses and the costs to everyone for medical care to address illnesses that should otherwise be preventable.

Going to be scarce for a week or so. Starting Phase II of the Great 2015 Grandparent Trek. This segment includes a stop at a little historic amusement park near Chattanooga. Wooden coasters for the win!

Morning all!

What park is that DD? I used to have a link to a site of all the great coasters in America. I don’t know if the site is still going, haven’t been there for a few years. I’d like to check it out.

One of the guys all time favorites was the original Blue Streak at Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio. I haven’t been there in some time, but the guy said they slowed it down so it isn’t as vicious in the turns.

By the way, have you ever rode that beautiful coaster at Dollywood? The pictures alone made that look like fun just the way it was built into the hills.

So, 10 seconds later I go to the other and it logs straight in? Go back to the original one to see if it was just a temp connection problem…still shows the server page. Strange?

This is the Blue Streak I grew up riding. The last 10 years they have been having financial problems that have kept the park closed alot. But a few years back my youngest and I went to the Halloween at the Park haunted houses in the park and a night ride of the Blue Streak was part of the ticket price. The oceans are full of eyes. Giant squid scan the depths with the world’s largest ones, which are oddly similar to those of the sperm whales that hunt them. Mantis shrimps watch for prey using eyes that work like satellites. Starfish stare through the tips of their arms, chitons look up through lenses made of rock, and scallops peer at the water through dozens of eyes with mirrors inside them. But to see the strangest eyes of all—eyes so weird that we can’t even be sure that they are eyes—you have to squint.

That looks like a classic old coaster like several small parks in Ohio used to have. My fathers Westinghouse Family Picnics used to be at Meyers Lake in Massillon Ohio. There were smallish amusement parks like that at Buckeye Lake, Indian Lake, Chippewa Lake and others.

Cedar Point has one, too. I forget its name, but the ride is the same thing. The trick to not getting sick is — don’t move your head side to side. It’s better to keep your head still and just move your eyes. Sideways motion sloshes the fluid in your semicircular canals around, and some people get violently nauseous.

Like my friend, who got so sick we had to carry him out and let him lie on the grass for a while.

I also remember there were guys that rode motorcycles in a round ball steel cage too. I remember them at Ohio county fairs. I used to sit on all the farm equipment and there were all those great smokey grilled hamburgers, hot chicken sandwiches and of course thin cut french fries.

Various factors over the years have, I think, shifted much more of the job of enculturation to the schools. That takes time that could be spent on education. Combine that with the need to teach to the test so that the students pass NCLB testing and here we are.

The second generation of the centrifugal machines was the ‘Tilt-a-Whirl’ in our parks. It had a hydraulic arm that lifted it 90 degrees after spinup. The first gen was spinning in only one plane, but the floor would drop out, leaving you stuck to the upholstery. Forget the name, but it was a big deal when Kennywood got one around 1957.

Tim Horton was once owned by Wendy’s here in Columbus. They spun them off about 10 years ago or so. So, now Burger King owns them??? There are a ton of Hortons in Ohio and some surrounding states because Wendy’s spread them around many times having both in the same split building.

re: #152 Eventual Carrion

The one I stopped at this morning on way to work was just built last summer. So there is expansion, but I am only about 2 hours away from Canadian border.

Wendy’s and TH split up, because Wendy’s realized TH was pulling customers away from the Wendy’s outlets in the same market. BK’s holding company acquired TH last year. I’m not sure what their thinking is on that move, given Wendy’s experience.

Yeah a 335. And check out those great old Fender Bassman amps. I bet some of those would be worth having today.

And look how far everyone has come with PAs.

One of the reasons I was looking at Chippewa Lake images was they used to have great battle of the bands events. I ran sound and roadied for an Ohio hard rock biker type band out of Ashland Ohio back in the day. Good times.

Back because I found an old image on line.

Rev…remember that photo of Walsh was from 1966. If you remember bands of that era, those guitars were right in line with the times. About 2 to 4 years later and you are right about what was popular.

And those guitars you mention were exactly the guitars in the band I used to roadie/sound for.

Here is an image of the dudes in Canyon. This I think was from 1973. They had a semi-regional hit titled Top of the World which was produced by Super K Productions the kings of mid-to late 60s bubblegum bands…many also form Ohio. See Picture below. Super K were your typical music sharks of the time. I don’t think Canyon really ever did the actual recording!!!

Canyon really was a damn fine band. They had some great tunes…but like many never really made it even as hard as they tried.

A sure sign of the times…1973

Here is wiki on Super K:

Super K Productions was a 1960s American recording production company under Buddah Records, headed by producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeffrey Katz, whose groups specialized in bubblegum pop. Their biggest successes were The Ohio Express, The 1910 Fruitgum Company, Crazy Elephant and The Music Explosion. Super K also had their own label of the same name in 1969 operated under Buddah Records, but it did not last as the bubblegum genre had already started to decline in popularity.

Not a company to depend on double-sided hits, many (but not all) Super K-produced singles were pressed with B-sides of either tracks recorded backwards or studio group instrumentals. This method was also employed earlier by producers Phil Spector and Joe Meek as a way of pointing a radio DJ to the “right” side of the singles.

And that is my tour of music back in the day. It all got me into playing and writing and all that. And I still suffer from it all today.

Ahhhh.

My friend, Irish actor Pat Nolan (who plays Barry O’Hanlon, the ultimate mama’s boy, on the soap opera Fair City), had a small role in Eat The Peach (1986), a funny and poignant indy movie about two Irish guys who build a wall of death. Well worth searching for.

Trump defenders can’t understand how and why Trump got rich (inheritance) or that he stayed rich because he was able to get others to pay for his mistakes.

He declared bankruptcy 4x. On casinos. Each time it was the creditors who lost their shirts, while Trump avoided losing his fortune. That’s how bankruptcy works, but it wasn’t his money that was at stake with the casinos - it was always other people’s money.

So, when nitwits say the following, they don’t understand economics, business, or government (kind of like Trump’s simplistic rhetoric, even as he games the system to his advantage):

Governments lose money - and some even declare bankruptcy too. And taxpayers have to make up the difference in one way or another - higher taxes, lower services, or both.

As for PA bands, and this is going back to the comments of the bargain bin comments from yesterday. Wife wanted me to pick a couple things after work yesterday and since I had to get charcoal lighter fluid I stopped at WallyWorld. While walking from the far side of the store (where fluid was) to the other side (where food is) I passed a discount bin of CD’s. I noticed a Halestorm CD on the top of the pile (PA band that is starting to get some recognition). I grabbed it and looked through the bin. Ended up with 3 $5.00 CD’s. Along with the Halestorm I grabbed a Huey Lewis and the News compilation and Pyromania by Def Leopard. Guilty pleasures.

Two other programmers and me tried our best to explain how the algorithm works… The guy was willing to grasp at any straw in order not to have to realize that the root cause of Google’s PR most likely have to do with racist sites and other pond scum sites gaming the search engine.

And when one puts an undeniable example (basically image google the n-bomb and “gorilla”) forth, it’s easy for the rest of us to see how google’s app might have been mistaken (more than likely, they’ve used data from Google image search to build a filter), but these people then began with the argument “that’s all leftist sites!” despite a number of known GOP meme cards turning up in the search…

I was like O.O…

Okay, done venting…

Back for some actual political stuff.

Did you all hear about Bernie Sanders getting almost 10,000 out for his campaign stop in Madison Wisconsin last night?

I am wondering who it got to thinking more about his surprising turnout in the state. Hillary Clinton or Scott Sanders?

Hillary is most likely paying attention to his popularism and how she can blend that into her talks and campaign.

Scott Walker is probably too dense to sense it but I think he should be concerned. Right now I wonder if 2,000 would turn out to see him in Madison considering what he has done to the state and the education system, especially The University of Wisconsin.

But the real thing that Walker shouldn’t overlook is what Sanders is campaigning on. And that would be unions, jobs and wages, returning the focus on the middle class and campaign financing and killing Citizens United. All basically anti-Walker stuff.

With Walker’s polling numbers going down down down and people paying attention to Sanders it is obvious Walker isn’t as popular (if he ever really was) in Wisconsin.

I also wonder what the Koch brothers are thinking. Their boy is not headed in the right direction at the wrong time.

I never expected Sanders to add this much fun to the whole thing.

Heh. Gene Simmons was hired by Indianapolis Motor Speedway to try to promote their race series back in the late 2000s. All he did was take their money, talk shit and create a brand song that sucked.

The campaign was called “I am Indy” and so was the song and the song’s main hook.

Problem was it sounded like they (some crappy Kiss-like metal band) were actually singing: “I am Mindy” and all the pissed off fans of the former CART series that was killed off by the Hulman-George family of IMS used it all to mock the hell out of the series.

Gene Simmons marketing company’s contract was never renewed!

Dear Family & Friends,

As many of you know Michael and I had to abruptly cancel our wedding day, due to the tragedy that occurred in Charleston. June 21st was suppose to be the happiest day of our lives. It is the day every girl dreams of, it was the day we dreamed of. We had each other, we have the perfect venue, and we had our vows ready to be read. We were ready! We had planned out every detail for months and months. It was going to be the PERFECT day!

Our wedding day was suppose to be the most important and special day of our lives. It was suppose to start our lives together with our new family. Our day was the exact opposite. Our wedding day was full of sorrow, pain, and shame, tainted by the actions of one man.

The Charleston Massacre took place and our lives were forever changed. The media abused our privacy and published all of our wedding information and destroyed our dream day. Destroying the first day of Michael and my life together.

We cancelled our wedding to protect our family and mourn the lives of those lost. Many friends and family members came into town and took time off of work to be there for us. We could not ask you to do that again.

We would like the chance to start our lives on a postive note. Therefore, we have decided to start a Go Fund Me account. We know money cannot replace the wedding we lost and our perfect day, however it will help us to create new memories and a new start with our new family.

Money raised will be used to cover lost wedding costs, to pay bills, and to send us on our dream honeymoon. 10% of all funds raised will be donated to Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. We thank you for any contrabution you can make.

Our lives have been forever changed and touched by all the love and support you have shown us through this difficult time. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS! GOD BLESS!

I honestly don’t even know what to make of that. Damn.

Pew put out a press release summarizing survey research over the past couple of years, which is getting some wide publication.

Of note:

There are substantial differences between younger and older Americans that are independent of their political beliefs, education levels or other factors.

Seniors (31%) are less likely than those under age 30 (60%) to say the Earth is warming due to human activity, and are less inclined to favor stricter power plant emission limits in order to address climate change. Older adults also express more support for offshore oil drilling, and they are more likely to prioritize fossil fuel development over alternative energy sources such as wind and solar power.

37% of adults under age 50 say parents should be able to decide not to vaccinate their children, compared with 22% of those ages 50 and older.

When it comes to the idea of changing a baby’s genetic characteristics in order to reduce the risk of serious diseases, older adults are more likely than younger ones to say this would be taking medical advances too far (56% among those ages 65 and older compared with 42% among those ages 18 to 29).

Maybe I am being harsh. This does have to be tough for her no doubt.

I’m kinda with you on this. Her all about her and her ruined happy happy day letter begging for honeymoon money is… distasteful. I know she isn’t the one who murdered those people and it sucks to be her in that family right now. It sucks a whole lot more to be grieving families of those murdered like the wife and children of Rev. Pinckney. She can still get married and have a life - their’s were ended. I might feel differently if she’d at least acknowledged that the blame lays with her brother and what he did, rather than the mean media. Or not. It’s still supremely tacky.

So I was taking part in a baby swimming class, and part of the instructions involved dipping the baby’s head under water so it could get used to the sensation. One mother in the group just could not bring herself to do that to her child, she felt as if she was hurting her baby and that was too much for her.

I have not seen her since, but I would not be surprised if she also did not get her child vaccinated…for the very same reasons.

Wendy’s and TH split up, because Wendy’s realized TH was pulling customers away from the Wendy’s outlets in the same market. BK’s holding company acquired TH last year. I’m not sure what their thinking is on that move, given Wendy’s experience.

What they’re thinking is the market is of infinite size and increasing the number of outlets for products will increase their profits.

Since the market isn’t infinite increasing outlets might reduce profit due to increase costs whether this can be called ‘thinking’ debatable.

I’m sorry, I cant agree that this is OK. You don’t try to make money on something like this. Plenty of people have their wedding day ruined for reasons out of their control and they move on. Just because this one is well known due to her brothers hateful murder spree, she is not right to take advantage.

If they love each other, they should go get married quietly and get over it!

I’m about to stand on a soapbox again…

Again from the Pew page:

There are several science topics where wide differences among racial and ethnic groups emerge. Hispanics stand out, particularly from whites, in their views about climate change, with a clear majority of Hispanics (70%) saying the Earth is warming due to human activity, compared with 44% among non-Hispanic whites.6

Sigh… why is it so many social scientists have such a hard time giving up poor, and quite outdated, notions of “race”?

“Hispanic” is a cultural category relating to heritage from Iberian colonized portions of America, and most “Hispanics” or their grandparents spoke Spanish.

“White” would best be described as “West Eurasian”, and on the whole “Hispanics” have significant ancestry from Europe. Which is why in the last sentence quoted above the writer puts in the phrase ” non-Hispanic whites”.

My mom has been confused about this ever since my brother got married to a Peruvian. I think she gets it now. I explained to her that my brother’s father in law’s mother who has a similar ancestry to her merely emigrated to Peru and not the U.S. And how Latin/South America is quite diverse.

Trying to get people to dump the idea of “race” and all of its many derivative ideas is really tough.

While it is true that many of the people in the Spanish speaking parts of the Americas have significant Native American ancestry, a majority of them have even more significant European ancestry. There are remote areas which are mostly surviving Native American descendants, but those are rural regions, not the populated centers.

Most of the Americas are composed of people with blended ancestry from Europe, Africa, and Native Americans.

Someone in Donald Trump’s circle of friends will have a high probability of being mostly of European ancestry, but that cannot describe most people living in the Western Hemisphere.

Uh oh, looks like Texas’ “business as usual” could be prosecuted.

First-degree felony charges to be sought against Texas AG Paxton

Last year during his campaign, Paxton admitted to the Texas State Securities Board that while he was in the Legislature, he solicited clients for a friend’s investment firm without being registered with the state. He paid a $1,000 fine and was reprimanded by the board.

Paxton solicited the clients in 2004, 2005 and 2012 while serving as a Republican state representative for a Collin County district. The question of criminal violations has yet to be addressed, though Paxton describes it as an administrative error.

But the watchdog group Texans for Public Justice requested an investigation into whether Paxton broke criminal laws. After two district attorneys backed away from the case, Collin County’s district attorney, Greg Willis, said that “appropriate investigative agencies, including the Texas Rangers” should handle allegations that Paxton violated state securities laws.

Central and South America has a lot of European mixed into it. When younger, I learned a lot about that following auto racing as many Formula 1 and World Endurance Sports Car drivers were from South America. When I came across champions with name like Fangio and Fittipaldi it made me think, damn those are Italian names.

And some of the most stunningly beautiful Mexican women are blonde haired and blue eyed from their Spanish/European backgrounds.

By the way, I hadn’t noticed you user image so I checked it out. I take it that is your niece. She has some big eyes and is a real cutie!

Let’s see who believed in states rights and opposed the 13th-15th amendments. Hmmm and who supported those and wanted a strong federal government to enforce that. Conservatives today want to make it about parties but it is and always has been about ideology.

I guess I’m sort of shrugging at all of this. Dylan murdered, but he also victimized others, who were traumatized in one way or another. I can see the point where his family was also destroyed by his criminal actions. Should a sister have to pay for the sins of her brother?

Yeah, this isn’t really setting off my outrage meter. GoFundMe doesn’t really allow you to make a fundraiser completely private so this could really have just been a way to reach out to actual friends and family for help and someone found the link and publicized it. Even if it is a private campaign once the link gets out there is no way to limit who has access to it.
