Fake Wingnut Outrage of the Day: “George Takei Said ‘Blackface!’” (Or, Liberals Are the Real Racists, Part 91332)

Breitbart commenters say “libs are the real haters,” then launch into frenzied hate speech

Here we go again. The wingnut mob (led by the Breitbart propaganda-mongers) is pretending to be upset at George Takei, for calling Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas a “clown in blackface.”

Takei was criticizing (rightly) Thomas’s idiotic comments that “slaves did not lose their dignity… because the government allowed them to be enslaved.”

It’s a little odd to use “blackface” to describe a black man, but Takei’s outrage at these comments is fully justified, on target, and stems from his own experience:

My parents lost everything that they worked for, in the middle of their lives, in their 30s [in the Japanese internment during World War II]. His business, my father’s business, our home, our freedom and we’re supposed to call that dignified? Marched out of our homes at gun point. I mean, this man does not belong on the Supreme Court. He is an embarrassment. He is a disgrace to America.

But of course, right wingers are focusing on one word and ignoring the entire context, because that’s how they always play this dumb game of “I know you are but what am I” — as if the problem is the word and not the intent behind it.

So since they’re pretending liberals are the real racists again, let’s have a look at the kinds of comments being posted at Breitbart “News” about this story, shall we?

If you already guessed that they’re dominated by insane homophobic hate speech and overt racism, give yourself a prize. And the most hateful and racist comments are sitting right next to the accusations that liberals are the real haters and racists.

These people. (I’m hiding the quoted comments by default because some of them are really, really ugly.)

Takei is a racist, gaystoppo, moron. He perfectly encapsulates the left’s racism and hatred.

[…]

I wish I knew what it is about liberals that makes them all so congenitally racist.

[…]

He’s a CLOWN with SLANTED EYES……

[…]

That tape over his mouth is the hard reality
that he has tasted enough of the rainbow and can’t swallow anymore …

[…]

He’s probably been taken in his butt hole by a big black buck!

[…]

It’s really no surprise that liberals would embrace a disgusting racist like
Takei.

[…]

Oh George - Uranus is a destination that way too many men have gone boldly to explore….

[…]

Gay Asians all look alike.

[…]

It seems developing a seriously stretched sphincter muscle carries with it a side effect: a viciously closed mind..

[…]

More racism from the left, what’s new?

[…]

Takei uses dental floss for a blindfold to sleep

[…]

See? It’s never enough for these 2% (and I’m being very generous here) freaks! America’s SCROTUS becomes their own personal d!ld0; they get to paint the entire country with their multi-colored a$$ covered sh!t; they get to do it like dogs in plain sight in their disgusting parades. —-with nobody ever bothering them, but it’s never enough.
I wonder who raped takei when he was younger. Because, according to FACTS & STATISTICS, if he wasn’t raped, then he’s in the MINORITY of the miniscule-minority of his ilk. THE MAJORITY OF ALL GAYS WERE SEXUALLY MOLESTED AND/OR RAPED BY A SAME SEX PEDOPHILE.
THESE ARE FACTS.
EAT IT.

[…]

The only clown with blackface is obama

[…]

Now the japs are calling Thomas an uncle tom.

[…]

Shut up and die you tired old queen.

[…]

I guess when a guy puts his weeny in your backside, this is the thought that results.

[…]

George, do the world a favor and die already!!

[…]

Someone needs to tell him FLAG is spelled with L.

[…]

You know this old queen keeps Preparation H and Depends in business.

[…]

Ever notice how vile and hateful the left is when they speak out against what they disagree with?

Cry about racism with racism, the Breitbart way.

I do not believe that gays spend as much time thinking about sex acts as wingnuts do.

3 HappyWarrior  Jul 2, 2015 11:10:41am

And looking at the full context, I have no problem with what Takei said. Thomas’ comments about dignity were crap and tailor made for a right wing audience who loves hearing slavery wasn’t so bad.

I’m betting that George is going to win (in life and in the court of public opinion, but especially in life).

5 EPR-radar  Jul 2, 2015 11:14:57am

RWNJs play this game to deflect from their own obvious racism and bigotry mainly because the MSM lets them get away with it.

I really think it’s time for every news outlet other than Fox News to develop and consistently use a canned “there you go again” spiel in response to this crap from US right-wingers.

Here’s another wingnut outrage. Apparently some gay activists on a White House tour took pictures of themselves giving St. Ronnie’s portrait the finger! I mean, how dare liberals complain about a flag that symbolized centuries of racist oppression, when they are going around giving the finger to a picture of a man who opposed much of what they stand for! I mean, it’s not like conservatives have ever done something disrespectful to a picture of Obama.

American Conservative Union leader defends Donald Trump: ‘He is not a racist’

The head of an influential national conservative organization defended Donald Trump on Thursday against criticism the Republican presidential hopeful has received over his controversial comments about Mexican immigrants.

“I think it is easy for people to attack Donald Trump over what he said,” American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp said. “I think they ought to listen to what he is saying. I actually know Donald Trump. He is not a racist. He is trying to characterize the fact that a broken immigration system can lead to a lot of problems.”

I scout various local news outlets looking at what the masses are saying… or at least what the publishers want to publish of what the masses are thinking.

Consider Fenton, Michigan:

LIBERALS PAINT ANYONE who does not agree with their agenda as being intolerant and full of hate. The truth is that they are hateful and intolerant of anyone who is not totally in agreement with their warped view of the world.
•••
DONALD TRUMP IS the left’s worst nightmare because he has no agenda other than saving America. He tells it like it is and shrugs off the lies and distortion of the corrupt media. He is spending his own money and is beholden to no one. Listen to him before judging.
•••
THE SUPREME COURT is a joke. Its decisions are pre-determined due to appointments made over the last six years. Further, three of them are clearly exhibiting Alzheimers-like symptoms. Yeah, that’s a good gang to have making complex decisions that affect all Americans.
•••
Most conservatives simply go about their lives. Why do liberals feel they have to flaunt, screech and scream about their private matters? Most of America has zero interest in your personal preferences, the same as you should have for ours. Thank you.
•••

Washington - A Washington Imam has become a local hero amongst the gay community as he quietly conducts marriage ceremonies for gay Muslim couples.

Imam Daayiee Abdullah is a progressive Muslim and America’s first openly gay Imam. The African-American Islamic convert is a specialist in Sharia law: however, his interpretation of the Koran differs from the mainstream Islamic view of homosexuality.

The Washington Post conducted an interview with Abdullah who runs Washington’s Light of Reform Mosque. He said “if you have any same-sex marriage, I’m available.” The Imam revealed he has conducted low-profile wedding ceremonies for gay Muslim couples, which could lead to repercussions if details emerged.

In this case, it was the actor’s choice. I read an interview with him where he said he loved doing the show but he could no longer handle the juggling between that and his other projects. I was so disapponted to hear he wouldn’t be back for the third season. I loved that character.

IIRC, the “other project” was his family. His kids were starting school so the family couldn’t come with him for the 6 months of on-location work.
I miss him too, but after the first few episodes where the new guy is unnecessarily awkward, I think it remains a good show.
The newest season has some other changes, but at least they didn’t kill anyone to get there.

In a lengthy interview on Thursday, Sen. Warren Limmer, Rep. Abigail Whelan, and AM 980 KKMS radio host Paul Ridgeway explained why the trio are pushing for a bill that would bar transgender youth from using school facilities that match their gender and repeal gender-inclusive policies in Minnesota schools. All three said the bill, dubbed the “Bathroom Bill,” will be a major issue in the 2016 legislative session.

Limmer, a Republican from Maple Grove, followed up on remarks by Rep. Whelan, a Republican from Anoka, and Ridgeway who criticized Caitlyn Jenner, who came out as a transgender woman in May. Limmer made a bizarre claim as to why the “Bathroom Bill” is necessary:

re: #65 CuriousLurker

I could be wrong, but I think Takei was probably using “blackface” the same way people use “Oreo” (black on the outside, white on the inside). What I mean, is in the sense that Thomas’ comments about slaves having dignity are very similar to claims made by whites trying to downplay the horrors of slavery & the Confederacy (see Michele Bachmann, Cliven Bundy, and others).

BTW, I tweeted this earlier. It was a very informative, interesting read:

[Embedded content]

What is the history of ‘black face” anyway? Black actors were not on stage because they were not allowed in the theaters and whites didn’t want to see them anyway. They’d probably get up and walk out. So they had white people in black face acting black which was not honest and very cliched and mocking of how “blacks really are (wink).”

Isn’t Takei saying Thomas is acting Black the way a white person would act Black so he can be on the Supreme Court stage? And he cannot really act “too Black” by acknowledging the real Black experience and the facts of it, or he would not be accepted by the majority White culture and the position he has forged as a conservative court member.

In short Thomas will never speak the truth because he is still looking for White acceptance and doesn’t want to be kicked off the stage. So he says his acting lines the way the White audience wants to hear them. Really he is a Black man in black face which is just strange and unnatural.

I know one thing, it is damn hard to frame the words in this discussion so as not to come off wrong and offensive. I hope I am not.

I still remember a time I was walking into a restaurant with my best buddy who is Black. As were were going in he held the door for a Black woman and her Black male companion grabbed the door and said, “I don’t need some uncle Tom helping hold the door, I got it.”

I remember we talked about that all through dinner and my friend said he gets that a lot. It was freaking sad. I didn’t understand where it came from and he said probably because I was with you and the way I speak and act white by holding the door. It was stunning. We were just two guys. Still are.

Now listen, we are also a nation of immigrants and we should celebrate legal immigrants, but Donald Trump is exactly right to highlight the need…”

“They’re not mostly that, but Donald Trump has a way of speaking that gets attention, and I credit him for focusing on an issue that needs to be focused on,” Cruz said.

Obama pushes economic agenda in La Crosse, chides Republicans

President Barack Obama came to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Thursday to promote a new rule that would boost overtime pay for 5 million American workers and contrast his economic policies with Republicans.

But he also took aim at Gov. Scott Walker’s policies without mentioning the governor’s name.

Obama said in Wisconsin “Your right to organize and bargain collectively was attacked. Your…education funding was cut. Your minimum wage has been stuck in place.”

Obama added that corporations and the wealthy have received hundreds of millions of dollars in tax cuts.

He compared policies in Wisconsin to those in Minnesota, which has a Democratic governor and a lower unemployment rate.

“I think this is where Democrats screw up, you know?” Webb said. “I think that they have kind of unwittingly used this group, white working males, as a whipping post for a lot of their policies. And then when they react, they say they’re being racist.”

Wow. Switch parties, Webb. Please. I don’t need you on my side.

I can confirm this. My semi-wingnut dad thinks Trump’s candidacy is an attempt to prompt a conversation among the GOP candidates instead of the campaign of shameless self-promotion it so clearly is. He’s especially fond of Trump’s suggestion that we re-invade Iraq and take its oil for ourselves, international law be damned.

Webb refuses to acknowledge that many white working class voters drove themselves out of the Democratic tent by being more angered by civil rights advancement than conservative policies that didn’t support better wages and benefits. And that’s sadly a fact. You can only blame the hippies and civil rights activists for so much.

I

If John Kasich gets in the running, listen to him. He many times starts of his lines with things like “Let me tell you something” and the like. As if we should be ready to receive the absolute truth and are incapable of noticing it.

Grrrrr.

The one that gets me going is all the RWNJs who preface their bullshit statements with “The facts are that … ”

When the facts are everything but. There should be a giant Chyron that pops up on the screen at this point that says “BULLSHIT ALERT! BULLSHIT ALERT!” and then pops up the relevant charts, bargraphs & historical context that contradicts what they are saying…

Sad irony is the Republicans who many WWC voted against like Dewey, Eisenhower, or ‘60 Nixon cared a lot more about their welfare than Reagan, Dubya, or Romney did.

It’s the linear-thinking, or more correctly, no-thinking approach to the world. Problem? Hit it with a hammer. Still a problem? Get a bigger hammer.

Toddlers usually grow out of this kind of approach to the world. Deeply flawed narcissists apparently do not; wealth allows a level of arrogance in this country that has become absolutely toxic, and a threat to our existence as a democracy.

You have to look at people’s body of work (and I don’t mean Star Trek). Everyone has local areas of their worldview and/or instances of self-expression that cross various lines, be it an off-color joke that you tell after a couple of beers or (as is the case here) something you say in the heat of the moment without really thinking about it.

Bottom line: the folks setting fire to churches in the South are bad racists; Takei is not.

Yeah, my response to what Thomas said was to post a page on this here blog that included lurid photos of the dehumanizing torture and abuse of slaves. Didn’t want to get into the hot-button issue of his race, since the point is really that what he said was incredibly short-sighted & dumb.

Takei and his family were, themselves, dehumanized & stripped of their dignity, property and damn near their lives. And then there’s Teh Ghey and years of being mocked by RWNJs. So maybe he had a gut reaction from a really, really, angry and hurt place.

I think Takei kinda gets a pass on this one.

209 goddamnedfrank  Jul 2, 2015 1:31:43pm

Clarence Thomas has been trolling female, minority and gay Americans for some 24 years. That’s the context that Takei’s admittedly harsh statement fits within.

What will Obama say when a gay couple attempts to get married in a mosque!

OK. What is this supposed to mean? I can usually translate wingnut to English, but this one makes no sense at all. Pure wingnut word salad.

Let me attempt to unpack the several layers of stupid. The moron thinks that churches and mosques are now forced to gay marry people. Obama, being a gay Muslim sharia supporter will be torn over which side he should be outraged at.

217 ibob  Jul 3, 2015 11:36:31am

Very, very late to this conversation. This is a great vaccine w/ only injection site redness or pain as side effects. I had my oldest daughter get the first injection in the series as soon as it was available. It covers both the main HPV strains that cause cervical cancer and genital warts. There is a new vaccine out now that covers even more strains. Now recommended boys be vaccinated also since it is the main cause of oral cancer not associated with smoking.

I have not seen a case of genital warts in a young woman who was vaccinated before becoming sexually active in the years since the vaccine has been available. This is absolutely incredible since we used to see them every day.

We have also seen a huge drop in abnormal Pap smears requiring biopsies much less surgery. Don’t underestimate the anxiety that goes with being told you have an abnormal Pap smear and have to a biopsy followed by more frequent Paps for at least two years.

The vaccine is actually against the protein capsule around the virus so there is no HPV virus in the vaccine. The capsule is required for the virus to be infective.

The HPV vaccine has made a significant decrease in two of the most frequent problems we used to see in ob/gyn (genital warts and cervical dysplasia).

I was just at the upper end of the age limit when it started coming out and my insurance didn’t cover it. I made the decision not to get it at that point, which hopefully I will never regret. (Five hundred dollars is a lot when you are a grad student.)

My sisters both have had it, and one did nearly faint in the doctor’s office afterwards. My mother’s response to this side effect was to make sure my sister wasn’t the one driving to/from the doctor’s office for the next shots in the series.
