I have little cousins this age and my own kid brother is a little older. The kids get this issue. I always hear “oh what about the kids.” They get it.

I just had the gay marriage conversation with my kids. I think I rambled on too much. Will have to talk to them about it again, I’m sure. I did mention that we do not say “that’s gay” or “faggot”. Ever.

There is another video from Jimmy Kimmel where they ask kids about it. It’s pretty funny.

The head of an influential national conservative organization defended Donald Trump on Thursday against criticism the Republican presidential hopeful has received over his controversial comments about Mexican immigrants.

“I think it is easy for people to attack Donald Trump over what he said,” American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp said. “I think they ought to listen to what he is saying. I actually know Donald Trump. He is not a racist. He is trying to characterize the fact that a broken immigration system can lead to a lot of problems.”

Schlapp, whose group is perhaps known best for its popular annual Conservative Political Action Conference, made his comments in an interview with The Washington Post and the Hill on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers.”

In announcing his presidential campaign last month, Trump made remarks about Mexican immigrants that have drawn criticism from Latino groups and prompted some of his corporate partners to sever ties with him.

“They’re bringing drugs,” Trump said. “They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”

Schlapp said that while the “tone and the words he chose are different from what I would choose,” he understood the point Trump was trying to make.

“I actually heard on the radio today him saying what he was talking about
is illegal immigrants. And that’s an incredibly important distinction to
draw,” said Schlapp, adding: “When you have a broken immigration
system, it’s hard to characterize the nature of the illegal immigrants
that come into our country.”

Trump, who has surged into the top tier of the crowded GOP field in recent polls, “resonates with a lot of Americans,” said Schlapp.

“It’s undeniable that what he is saying is working out there in the country,” he added.

i encourage mr trump to share his undoubtedly sick thoughts about black people as well

FLASHBACK: When Millions Of Lost Bush White House Emails (From Private Accounts) Triggered A Media Shrug

Even for a Republican White House that was badly stumbling through George W. Bush’s sixth year in office, the revelation on April 12, 2007 was shocking. Responding to congressional demands for emails in connection with its investigation into the partisan firing of eight U.S. attorneys, the White House announced that as many as five million emails, covering a two-year span, had been lost.

The emails had been run through private accounts controlled by the Republican National Committee and were only supposed to be used for dealing with non-administration political campaign work to avoid violating ethics laws. Yet congressional investigators already had evidence private emails had been used for government business, including to discuss the firing of one of the U.S. attorneys. The RNC accounts were used by 22 White House staffers, including then-Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, who reportedly used his RNC email for 95 percent of his communications.

re: #45 goddamnedfrank

Is she confusing Sanders with Soros?

*Looks at her timeline*

Yep.

Also, the charge against Soros is total bullshit.

Soros was thirteen years old in March 1944 when Nazi Germany occupied Hungary.[19] When Jewish children were barred from attending school by the Nazis, Soros and the other schoolchildren were made to report to the Jewish Council, which had been established during the occupation. Soros later described this time to writer Michael Lewis:

The Jewish Council asked the little kids to hand out the deportation notices. I was told to go to the Jewish Council. And there I was given these small slips of paper… It said report to the rabbi seminary at 9 am… And I was given this list of names. I took this piece of paper to my father. He instantly recognized it. This was a list of Hungarian Jewish lawyers. He said, “You deliver the slips of paper and tell the people that if they report they will be deported.”[20]

Soros did not return to that job, but instead went into hiding the next day. Later that year, at age 14, Soros lived with and posed as the godson of an employee of the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture. The official was at one point ordered to inventory the remaining contents of the estate of a wealthy Jewish family that had fled the country; rather than leave the young Soros alone in the city, the official brought him along.[21] The next year, 1945, Soros survived the Battle of Budapest, in which Soviet and German forces fought house-to-house through the city.

He was a kid. He didn’t profit off of the Holocaust, he simply survived it.

I love that video.

I just wonder how open it is for conservatives, religious types and RWNJs to say the kids are indoctrinated by progressives and gays.

They will claim there are only 11 kids so obviously they edited out the kids that didn’t fit the narrative. Where are the good little home and Christian fundamental schooled kids?

Libs and gays just can’t be trusted. We need an independent source like FOX News to do another sampling and video for fairness and balance (our way).

///

Anything is easy to shoot down when you want to. And you know they do and will.

It still is good to see there are kids that are opened minded. Hopefully it is reflective of the majority of youngsters and in 20 years the the whole thing will turn and never be a thing.

Wendell, I understand, but what percentage of homes throughout America will that actually happen? Will they admit it is the law or will they twist it or not even talk to their kids about it.

And I don’t expect you to give a factual response, just a gut feel.

I really worry about how people of the groups I mention will try to sell it as flat out wrong due to tradition, religion, etc. It is not going to be an easy change. I liken it to race relations and look where that is today. Gay sex freaks people out. Even hetero sex freak some out. It is going to take time.

It never ceases to amaze me how blind people can be to themselves. The religious right is the same group of people who have been pushing anti-Sharia laws out of fear that Islamic precepts regarding what is/isn’t morally permissible will somehow be imposed on them despite the separation of church & state and constitutional (and other) laws & protections already in place.

Then, the minute they’re faced with a law that prevents them from imposing their religious precepts on others, they start feeling all persecuted and whining about how their religious freedom is being threatened.

No, it’s NOT being threatened. The same laws that protect you from Sharia also protect same-sex couples from having Biblical (or any other religion’s) laws or morality imposed on them. That’s how it works, get it? No, you don’t like that? Well, there’s nothing stopping you from leaving.

[…]

…one of the most controversial new laws allows Kansans to carry a concealed gun without a permit. The part that worries so many is that no training for that gun is required.

It is called “constitutional carry,” and Kansas is reportedly the sixth state to enact this rule. People who support the law say it is their constitutional right to carry a gun, so the government shouldn’t heavily regulate how they do it.

“More good people will have guns, and I think it will deter the bad people from robbing people,” said Ken Nagle of Gardner.

Others say not requiring training is not safe and is a public health hazard. They also say it will be hard to know if someone has a gun on them.

“If I walk into a restaurant with my family with my 2 1/2-year-old son, I won’t know who has been properly trained and who has not,” said Rep. John Wilson, a Lawrence Democrat. “At least if I see their gun I can leave, but now I have no idea.”

Yup. Not going to mind being on the 60 degree beach for a few days.

Got your message about the glasses. I also left my video tester and an extension thingy for my ratcheting screwdriver. I’ll probably pick those up when I drop off my uniforms and pick up my PTO payout, which will be when I get back in town next week.

I wonder who they put on swings…

No one so far. As far as the video tester, do you mean the one that’s in the main shop? If so, I will snag it for you in the A.M. and put it in secure storage. You paid for it.

You know what else is annoying? The ambitions of some people elected or appointed to positions of power are pandering like hell and they’re throwing lesser public servants under the bus in the process—or rather they’re allowing said public servants to throw themselves under the bus.

For example, the Texas AG’s statement was very carefully (weaselly) worded to protect himself and his career while appealing to religious emotions and making country clerks feel maybe it would be a good idea to become a martyr. Read the statement yourself below, paying close attention to what he actually said. Clerks are going to get sued left & right, but the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and AG have made damned sure their asses are covered. After all, Abbot & Paxton are lawyers, so they know exactly how to straddle the (legal) fence:

I like Jim Wright’s take on the never-ending gun rights argument over at Stonekettle station.stonekettle.com

Wright’s basic idea is to give the gun safety rules (ironically as put forth by the NRA) the force of law.

The starting point is that there are no accidents with guns. In any such case, someone screwed up, and should be held accountable.

You can tell that Ted Cruz is really upset that he’s stuck at 3% in the GOP polling. He figures that his affinity with the religious right base should warrant better numbers than that, and he sort of has a point. He’s probably sitting back looking at Trump and wondering how truly awful of a human being he as to become for Republicans to finally pay attention to him.

Trump would actually serve a purpose if he has enough sustained success in the GOP primary to force the other GOP candidates to drop their pretense of civilization that impairs their full communion with the GOP base.

That us/we thing confused the hell out of me the first time I read the Qur’an—I was like, “Wait, I thought this was all about monotheism??” Turns out it is common in many languages for important ppl to refer to themselves as “we”. The Iranian shahs used to do that.

Royal “we” is well-known, but it doesn’t explain “one of us” or “Elohim” (lit. “Gods”).

I was only talking about the Arabic > English of the Qur’an. I have no idea about the Biblical Hebrew/Aramaic > Greek > English, so I can’t speak to that.
