A Meeting of the Minds: Ted Cruz and Glenn Beck Agree America Is Facing Imminent Destruction

Cruz: “When the sheep are walking among coyotes it pays to be cynical”
Wingnuts • Views: 68,549

YouTube

Here we go again with the right wing’s favorite theme: the imminent destruction of America. This time it’s GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz and raving freakazoid Glenn Beck having a nice friendly little chat about doom and downfall due to the unimaginable horrors of marriage equality and the bloodthirsty liberal media, but this same scenario is being repeated by every Republican politician these days. Everybody’s doin’ the Doomsday Boogaloo.

Year after year, conservative demagogues like Cruz warn that America is facing annihilation because of whatever asinine regressive issue they’re pushing at the moment. It’s pure snake oil, and they just keep selling it to the conservative base, who never seem to notice that the warnings never come true.

The fact a loon like Cruz is even in the running for the Presidency shows what dangerous times we live in.

The single biggest near-term threat to the US is the possible election of a GOP POTUS in 2016.

this sort of End Times gobbledee-gook was amusing to me when I was in college listening to some rural backwoods AM station 11pm at night complete with raving UFO/Libertarian End Times/endless Conspiracy-addled hosts.

The thought that this sort of raving madness from what was the lunatic fringe now is mainstreamed amongst the right wing and now represented by several Republican candidates speaks volumes to how out of touch they all are with Reality, and how trapped they are within a nutball echo chamber.

Apocalypticism has been very popular in the American religious experience.

Cruz is doing what politicians do - pandering - but to the end-times fanatics.

He knows that is not a small audience, as many people like Beck have gotten rich milking that cow.

And the happy thought for today is that one of these swivel-eyed loons might actually win in 2016.

Realistically, the GOP is more likely to lose than to win. However its winning chance is not nearly as low at it deserves to be, nor will the GOP get the 0 electoral votes their ‘policies’ really deserve.

There’s a plot afoot among the Republican-governed states to hand their Electoral Votes out by (gerrymandered) Congressional District, giving only those extra two unearned Electoral Votes to the winner of the Popular Vote in that state.

If they follow through on that, and apparently there’s nothing in the Constitution to prevent it, Hillary Clinton (or whoever) could win the Popular Vote 60/40 and still lose the election.

I pretty much gave up on this country when there weren’t 100,000,000 people out in the street every day until the stolen election of 2000 was reversed, but if we acquiesce in that kind of jiggery-pokery (yes, I said it), we don’t deserve to survive as a nation.

So the right wing are using the 5 time deported man who killed a woman in San Fran as proof that Donald was right.

Once again, Donald’s actual words:

Are Beck and Cruz serious about this or are they just incredibly cynical and manipulative? And for the people who believe this crazy stuff, I can’t help but think that they inhabit a completely different world from the reality based community. More doom over teh ghey:

Mundelein mayor’s July Fourth speech starts fireworks

Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz gave a controversial Fourth of July speech in which he said America faced a moral crisis due to gay marriage and decades of “unwed mothers.”

Lentz has since defended his comments at a July Fourth ceremony at the Fort Hill Heritage Museum in Mundelein, in which he also remarked positively on Prohibition. He later posted on YouTube an audio recording of the statements, which he said he hoped would help clarify his intentions.

“I’m just going to address the elephant in the room, and that is not necessarily the Supreme Court decision (on gay marriage), ‘cause that’s just one event in a decadeslong adventure in a moral crisis that we’re in,” Lentz said in the speech. “Our nation is in a moral crisis, and it’s something that needs to be talked about more.”

From Forbes in 2010:

With a deadpan, Beck insists that he is not political: “I could give a flying crap about the political process.” Making money, on the other hand, is to be taken very seriously, and controversy is its own coinage. “We’re an entertainment company,” Beck says. He has managed to monetize virtually everything that comes out of his mouth. He gets $13 million a year from print (books plus the ten-issue-a-year magazine Fusion). Radio brings in $10 million. Digital (including a newsletter, the ad-supported glennbeck.com and merchandise) pulls in $4 million. Speaking and events are good for $3 million and television for $2 million.

I’m keeping an eye on this as well. In fact, what you’ve described is the relatively respectable version of this idea.

The simple fact of the matter is that the constitution leave selection of Presidential electors entirely up to the state legislatures. The fact that most state legislatures have passed laws to allot their electoral votes winner take all based on a vote of the population is not binding at all on any states that may wish to change how they do things.

To pick a not entirely random example, Wisconsin could change its laws before election time in 2016 to allot all its electoral votes according to a vote in the state legislature in 2016. Can’t imagine how that vote would go.

The moral of the story is that anyone who think it safe to vote at the state level for Republicans is being idiotic.

You KNOW Wonkette is going to have so much fun with this one. Apparently Palin was posting a new item about every 2-3 weeks, and it the typical “do it in one take and don’t fix it in post” type stuff.

RBS

From Wonkette:

August 1 shall henceforth be known as the day of Grifterdämmerung, the day when the Grifter Princess of the Permafrost finally proved that you can’t fool all of the morons all of the time. Like cigarettes, America will still consume Palin-flavored content from time to time when we are drunk. But it is no longer 2008, and we have grown stronger as a people, and Sarah Palin no longer feels like an extension of our right-most political appendage.

Good work getting through this with us, America. We’re proud of you.

Gah. Just tried to listen to Chucky’s interview with Adam Carolla, and I think I need to pour molten lead in my ears now. THIS GUY IS SO FUCKING HORRIBLE, and he lies throughout the interview.

I see why Carolla invited him on, though — Carolla’s just as big of an ass as Chuck. I haven’t paid any attention to Carolla lately but it seems he’s a total wingnut himself. One of those people who thinks being called a racist is some kind of badge of honor.

Most disgusting part was when Chuck tried to claim people called him a white supremacist JUST BECAUSE he said Jews and Asians are smart. Oh yeah, Chuck, that’s why. Not the white supremacist articles you posted on Twitter, or the time you used the N word over and over, or the neo-Nazis you follow and associate with. Nope, none of that. It’s because you said Jews and Asians are smart.

This is one of the most disgusting people I’ve ever encountered. He has absolutely no sense of morality, decency or honesty. He just lies through his teeth to make himself look better. Ugh.

I won’t be writing about this one, apart from this comment. I just had to vent, because listening to that sick horseshit made me nauseous.

Had an interesting day at “not-work, it’s my day off” today. I just got a desk, and since we are pretty much closed (open 4pm-7pm) on Mondays, I thought I’d just drop early afternoon, put my newly purchased “desk stuff” on the desk, get things set up, and pop back out…

Then the UPS guy showed up with a delivery to process in… no biggie.

Then the owners wife showed up with a pressure washer to spray the wooden fences, so I helped her out a bit.

Then some folks came by for some inspections on their tanks, and to pick up a few things.

During this, a guy came in (we are still closed during this time mind you, but the door is unlocked). Ended up buying 1300 dollars worth of gear and is going to sign up for an upcoming trip.

About 4 one of the owners showed up, looked at me with 3 people shopping and an order getting rung up. I just said… “Don’t worry boss, I’m just making you money”. His reply… “I’m good with that… carry on”.

Sent the other owner a txt, that he’s going to have to adjust my timesheet, since I never bothered to clock in, since I was never there to start with.

What an odd day this has been.

jonmcnaughton.com

The Older Boy’s animator-in-training girlfriend and I commrnted on a post on McNaughton’s FB page, and he engaged us,briefly, before deleting his responses. His pic showed a soldier looking unhappily at a piece of cake, with an UNCUT gay wedding cake behind him. I asked where he got it, the cake being uncut and all. He said, “The military gave him the cake, but that’s another story.”

Then he deleted his comment.

If that guy tried to sell me something, I’d walk away. The scheming asshole can’t mask the rot inside, it just overflows. How anyone could watch him for a couple of minutes and not see his nature is just hard to comprehend.

But then, I have the same impression of Pat Robertson, Glen Beck, most of the Fox crowd, CCJ, Rick Santorum and so many others. Yet they manage to fool a lot of people. It frightens me not only that so many people can’t seem to think, but also that the authority figures they pick to “think” for them are so evil.

Is he actually a joke? His public persona feels like an elaborate prank. Parody as performance art. Is Colbert behind this? Or Sacha Cohen?

I think the CIA has cooked up an elaborate non-lethal warfare experiment where they attempt to infiltrate and destroy democratic process by creating candidates from the ground up and fielding them in national elections. What we’re seeing is a live-fire test of a secret government program to rig elections abroad. “How stupid can you make a guy and still get a target population to vote for him?” This candidate “Ted Cruz” is actually an operational test of Project Blue Clown. Dig deep enough into his past and you’re going to keep coming to dead-ends. Follow the money and you’ll end up at anonymous P.O. Boxes in Arlington, VA. He’s NOT REAL. SHOW US THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE, MISTER CRUZ, IF THAT IS YOUR REAL NAME!!!

This is only a hypothesis, but regardless, I feel like we’re the victims of something here.
