Yeah I await with baited ears what a racist like Mark Fuhrman has to say and what Sean Hannity has to say. Oh and guess what guys, if this was in fact racially motivated, it will be prosecuted as a hate crime. Isn’t that great?

good grief. I read about that when it happened and just knew it was going to the next big HUGE anti-white thing.

BTW, it is indeed being investigated as a hate crime, as it should.

re: #5 Dark_Falcon

Police backed away Monday from an officer’s incident report that described the Saturday night assault on a man near Fountain Square as an “anti-white” crime.

In a police incident report filed at 3 a.m. Sunday, the reporting officer stated the assault that left Christopher McKnight, 27, bloodied and unconscious involved hate or bias. The officer’s typed explanation was that the violence was “anti-white.”

At a Monday afternoon news conference with other police and city leaders, Capt. Mike Neville said that description was incorrect.

The first link has some confusing information:

The police report, which was obtained by WLWT on Monday, lists that the incident was being investigated as a hate crime. However, at Monday’s 2 p.m. news conference, officials stated this was not a hate crime.

At the conference, Captain Mike Neville was asked if he could explain why the incident was listed as a hate crime on this incident report, Neville responded, “At this time miss, I cannot.”

But I do know that “hate crime” is part of the investigation.

Also:

Officials during a Monday news conference said the crowd at Fountain Square reached an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 people around 11 p.m. as the performance by hip-hop act Ground Up ended.

In a statement Tuesday, a 3CDC spokeswoman said the crowd for the concert was closer to 400 people. 3CDC spokeswoman Anastasia Mileham said the concert ended around the same time as a Cincinnati Reds game and as a large crowd of people were congregated near Government Square a block away.

Hannity is just doing his bit, again, to push the “race realist” view into the mainstream. He and the morning Dunce-y are the two on the regular Fox News channel who do this the most.

re: #9 jaunte

Thank. My initial read is that this was a case of too many young males and not enough police and other authority figures. That sort situation is liable to go back no matter what race the young men are. And it is entirely possible that the beaten white civilian was attacked because he was white, but that’s not evidence of any sort of systemic or widespread animus. I’ll also point out that while bad, that incident doesn’t come within five miles of what DipShit Roof did.

As evidence, I note that DipShit was indicted on three counts of Attempted Murder to go along with the 9 counts of Murder in the 1st Degree he’s already facing. Again, nothing that happened in that fracas in Cincinnati is of the level of even the new charges leveled against the South Carolina scumbag.

Daily Beast writer Lloyd Grove give Hillary Clinton the backhand for her CNN interview:

Hillary Plays The Victim in CNN Interview

The candidate was, by turns, self-justifying and pugnacious, and occasionally just plain inauthentic, as she complained about her and her husband’s victimization by right-wingers and scandalous book authors—the correct people to blame, in her view, for the fact that six out of 10 voters don’t consider her “honest and trustworthy,” according to a recent CNN poll.

“I can only say, this has been a theme that has been used against me and my husband for many, many years,” Clinton said—perhaps unwittingly evoking her long-ago claim that the Monica Lewinsky scandal was the result of a vast right-wing conspiracy. “At the end of the day, I think voters sort it all out…I trust the American voters.”

SNIP

And Clinton once again trotted out her creakily baroque defense of the private email server she used as secretary of state (in apparent contravention of Obama administration regulations), and the massive deletions she ordered upon leaving office.

Widening her eyes and nodding at times like a bobblehead doll—occasionally emitting a percussive laugh—Clinton dodged one policy question after another, pretended Sanders barely exists, and proclaimed her “total respect” for the pesky press—the same press that her campaign aides actually lassoed with ropes in the middle of a New Hampshire street in order to keep them away during a July 4th parade.

“I’m not running my campaign for the press. I’m running it for voters,” Clinton explained to Keilar, an edge to her voice. That at least sounded truthful. But then Clinton added, with apparent insincerity: “I totally respect the press, and what the press has to do.”

I liked the article, but those who like Hillary Clinton will likely be peeved wit Groves for writing this review.

You can never eat too much fruit. Peach picking sounds fun though. I’ve never done that myself but have enjoyed strawberry and blackberry picking in the past.

The thing with peaches is that if you pick them yourself you can get the really, really ripe ones. They simply can’t be picked that ripe and sold. Those things bruise if you look at them crosseyed, so you have to take them home very carefully and do something with them pretty quickly.

Peaches don’t ripen further after they are picked, in the sense that there is all the sugar in there that you’re ever going to get. They will soften, but they don’t really ripen, so for a perfect peach you really have to go to the orchard and wander around very gently pulling on peaches. If they come away from the branch with slight pressure, they’re completely ripe.

Sadly, it’s a bit of a drive from my house, to get to where they grow them, but my daughter’s house is a bit over half way to the orchards, so it was a fun and reasonable thing to do with her.

Also, I thought this was kind of an interesting contrast, showing the same event from two different angles: dailykos.com:

Overflow crowds kept many people out of the event (somewhere between 200-300 in the room), but after answering questions, Hillary went outside and talked with everyone who stayed in line and wanted to hear her.

Apparently that took awhile, but then it was on to CNN, where Brianna Keilar decided to show everyone just how ridiculous national press treats her. Instead of talking about any of the issues facing voters in the near future - the affordable care act, foreign policy, the economy, Keilar decided to make her interview all about CNN and the press.

Paraphrased, it boiled down to “scandal? scandal? scandal? gaffe? gaffe!” Yet Clinton didn’t give the press what they wanted. Simply put, the questions at the library event were better than anything Brianna came up with. In both, though, Hillary looked like she was having fun, and was in control.

I enjoyed watching and listening to Hillary today, and I suspect she enjoyed campaigning. I’m looking forward to seeing more of her as campaign season gets underway.

Actually, Fox has set the number of seats at 10:

Upcoming polls to lock in GOP debate field

John Kasich may be the last Republican to enter the presidential fray, but his timing could be the best: Exactly two weeks after the splash of his planned announcement on July 21, Fox News Channel will average together the latest polls of the Republican field and determine which 10 of the 16 announced candidates will participate in the first debate in Cleveland.

Making the cut gives a candidate the platform to stand out in a crowded field; not making the cut leaves him or her knocking on the door.

Every candidate — with the exceptions of Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, and Marco Rubio — is in danger of losing his or her place. That leaves the rest of the field hoping their numbers will tick up at just the right time, knowing that the tiniest fluctuation of numbers could be the difference between acceptance and rejection. The difference between being on the main debate stage and being relegated to the B-team is likely be at most 1 or 2 percentage points.

Kasich’s announcement could generate enough publicity to give him at least a brief bump — and a spot in the Aug. 6 debate at the expense of a rival. Political neophytes Ben Carson and Donald Trump seem likely to generate enough publicity on their own to get them over the polling hurdle. If Kasich can bounce into the top 10, that would leave the rest of the field — 10 candidates, almost all of whom have held major elective office — fighting for four spots.

“There will be a huge amount of attention and coverage around the first debate,” said one aide to a GOP presidential campaign, to whom POLITICO granted anonymity to discuss strategy candidly. “That’s when we’ll see a lot of voters tune in for the first time.”

To be clear: While I many of Fox News’ questions during the debate to be DERPy (and the “analysis” afterwards surely will be), I expect the averaging of polls to be done honestly. That’s one of the few places in news where dishonesty can hurt bad enough that FNC will be disinclined to try any.

Kind of amazing the drop in the Chinese stock market over the last 2 or 3 weeks has barely gotten a mention in the news.

The Greek fiasco has really depressed the markets worldwide, but China’s markets are especially volatile now that many small investors have jumped in. The authorities are trying to calm things down.

No shit. I’m afraid the small investors, who are largely middle class people trying to eke out some extra income, are panicking and selling off their shares in toto. Plus, there is a debt crisis looming here, as many businesses borrowed money to build the housing and office projects that are everywhere here, but still remain vacant.

The RCP average of polls difference between the current 10th place candidate, Christie, and Santorum at 11 is exactly one percentage point. The FOX format is crazy, especially since Trump will be on the stage. It’s going to be nine guys all trying to tear down Jeb. Yeah, before Xi took office there was a lot of corruption involving tycoons giving government officials kickbacks for approving building projects that no one can afford to buy or rent. Xi has cleaned that up some, but he’s only targeting those officials who are not in his camp. Xi’s supporters have nary been touched by scandal. Meanwhile, nearly every city has “ghost towns” in its outlying districts — concrete towers that are vacant or unfinished. There are simply not enough people with the means to move into these places, not at the prices expected anyways.

Government economists scaled back annual China’s growth target to something like 6% or 7% this year, which is pretty modest compared to the last several years. And yeah, you’re right, some pundits say China’s economy is due for a massive correction, while others say it will slow down, but will still continue to expand.

Ok. So… what was the point? It’s not like any large library doesn’t have a shelf of Civil War non-fiction books, and university libraries shelves of theses and dissertations on the subject.

So, let’s say that various rich Northern industrialists found a common cause with the energetic (often religious) abolitionists? So? Budget amendment would allow 7-day workweeks

Seven-day workweeks would be allowed and provisions for a “living wage” would be struck from state statutes, nullifying a lawsuit filed by Wisconsin workers aimed at pressuring Gov. Scott Walker to raise the minimum wage, under last-minute additions to the state budget.

The proposals are part of the package of changes made by the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee late last week. Republicans were largely silent on the changes, and no one from the office of Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) or Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette), co-chairs of Joint Finance, was available for comment.

The conservatives in this country have chosen. They have earned my hatred in spades.

Provision: Payday lenders could provide insurance, financial advice

Payday lenders would receive broad new authority to sell additional financial products and services, including insurance and annuities, under a provision the Joint Committee on Finance quietly added to the state budget late last week.

The step is the latest move by Republicans to loosen regulations on payday lenders and has lawmakers, members of the insurance industry and community advocates alike calling for public hearings on the matter.

Aside from selling insurance and annuities, the addition also permits payday lenders to offer financial advice to consumers.

Also from The Hill, and I think you folks will like this one. Me, I’m not sure but I’m willing to listen. I wanted the Senate to go back to doing its proper business and proposals like this are part of that business:

Warren, McCain introduce bill to bring back Glass-Steagall

Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) are reintroducing legislation to revive the Glass-Steagall Act, which would force big banks to split their investment and commercial banking practices.

Glass-Steagall was first passed in 1933 but repealed during the Clinton administration, leading many progressives to argue that it contributed to the 2008 financial collapse.

Warren and McCain, along with their cosponsors, Sens. Angus King (I-Maine) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), said in a statement that the legislation would make big banks that are “too big to fail” smaller and safer and minimize the likelihood of a government bailout.

The bill, which they first introduced in the last Congress, would separate traditional banking with checking and savings accounts from financial institutions that offer services such as investment banking, which are riskier.

“Despite the progress we’ve made since 2008, the biggest banks continue to threaten our economy,” said Warren, an ardent Wall Street critic, in a statement. “The biggest banks are collectively much larger than they were before the crisis, and they continue to engage in dangerous practices that could once again crash our economy.”

This is getting more notice this time around. And I will say at least its a proposal to actually address “too big to fail”. That said, it also going to result loud screams of “RINO!!1” directed at John McCain.

Morning.

Johnny Kasich is starting to get some media questioning. He was in DC yesterday hunting up some bucks and had a news conference. Here are his answers when reporters asked him about sometimes (some?) coming off like a jerk.

Reading about him is one thing, but to really get a feel for him you need to see and hear video of him. I’m not sure exactly how to put it, but there is just something about the way he comes off that can just be a real turnoff to me…and obviously others. But it appears soon all of America will be seeing more and more of him and everyone can judge just how much a jerk he is. A man that is very comfortable being a jerk.

John Kasich addresses the ‘jerk’ characterization

—CUT—

Here are fuller Kasich comments on the “jerk” question, and then other tidbits from his news conference, including his response to Donald Trump’s recent remarks about Mexican immigrants.

“First of all, I won 86 out of 88 counties. Sixty percent of the women’s vote, 51 percent of union households, in one of the largest victories in Ohio history. There must be something that I must be doing right there in order to do that in what is one of the most pivotal states.

“And people should pay a lot of attention to the formula that this administration’s been able to use to figure out what works.

“Now, I will tell you that I come from Pittsburgh, McKees Rocks. We’re pretty direct where we come from.

“But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying directly that it doesn’t make sense for America to lead from the rear rather than the front, which has been suggested by some in this (presidential) administration. I don’t think it’s wrong to be direct and say that it’s wrong for more 18-year-olds to believe they’ll see a UFO than their Social Security check. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being direct and saying that the financial situation in this country is not good, and the kind of growth we’ve experienced in this country is acceptable, because it’s not. Our growth rate has been pathetic, anemic. It’s left people behind.”

He continued, “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being direct about the fact that the mentally ill, the drug-addicted and the working poor need to be lifted in this country, and that relations between the races need to be improved. That’s direct. But I think people want someone direct. That’s where I think they are on this.

“But look, at the end of the day, it’s results. Did people feel lifted? Did they feel included? And you know, I worked for a guy in 1976 at the Republican convention and people said he was pretty darn direct. His name was Ronald Reagan, and I think he did pretty well. So let’s set a course and let’s stick to it.”

He added that members of Congress and in the defense contractors’ community were displeased when he was House Budget Committee chairman and cut programs in the 1990s to help balance the federal budget. Yet he said he expects some of those former colleagues to now urge him to run for president.

“Because you know, it’s determination, it’s directness, it’s building the team that I think is what leadership’s all about. And sometimes as a leader, you’ve got to walk a lonely road. It’s okay.

“I’ve had a lot of blessings in my life. The Lord’s been good to me, and I’m going to do my best to lead and to improve people’s lives, whether I sit in the White House or whether I sit in the white house on Lanetta Avenue in Westerville, Ohio, being governor.”

—CUT—

When asked about Donald Trump’s recent comments characterizing undocumented Mexican immigrants as rapists and criminals, Kasich said he doesn’t respond to others’ comments. He did say, however, that he has already said in an interview on Fox News that he disagrees with Trump’s comments.

“Look, I’m a believer that the country needs to be unified, not divided,” Kasich said. “We’ve had enough divisions. We’ve seen what happens when people feel left out and they feel as if the system doesn’t work for them. … There are a lot of young people here. It’s time we bring the country together.

“It doesn’t mean we’re not going to have our differences. But we don’t need more fighting or name-calling. It’s not what we need.”

Also from The Hill, and I think you folks will like this one. Me, I’m not sure but I’m willing to listen. I wanted the Senate to go back to doing its proper business and proposals like this are part of that business:

Warren, McCain introduce bill to bring back Glass-Steagall

This is getting more notice this time around. And I will say at least its a proposal to actually address “too big to fail”. That said, it also going to result loud screams of “RINO!!1” directed at John McCain.

And John McCain (given his past involvement in banking scandals, political campaign stances, and choice for VP candidate) might be the craziest, most eccentric politician since Andrew Jackson.

Scientists are also working to apply the technology to other diseases, like E-Coli.

This original technology was developed to be the equivalent of a dogs nose, to sense things like land mines and pathogens that were a concern in terms of bio-security.

Scientists say this technology will be especially important when it comes to pediatric TB and TB found in cows. Children don’t have the same symptoms as adults and it’s harder to detect the disease in children.

Tuberculosis kills over a million people every year worldwide.

There are some places that the clown car just won’t go.

The nation’s largest Latino advocacy group says it invited every presidential candidate to annual convention next week. Not a single Republican plans to attend, a spokesman said…

…The GOP absence from the La Raza conference comes at a time when the Republican field is struggling to respond to incendiary comments from candidate Donald Trump, who charged that Mexican immigrants are “bringing drugs, bringing crime, they’re rapists.”

Ever since Hispanic voters helped re-elect President Barack Obama in 2012, the Republican Party has been working to improve its image with Hispanic voters. But presidential candidates are also trying to appeal to the many Republican primary voters who oppose liberalized immigration policy.

91% top tax on regular income
25% top rate on capital gains
52% top rate on corporate tax
$400,000 highest income tax tier

In 1955, one-third of US workers belonged to a union, banks paid 3% interest on straight savings, two earner households were the exception rather than the rule, and a high school diploma was enough to get you a job that would enable you to raise a family without starving.

I think that would be risky to do suddenly. However, those tax rates do I think prove conservative dogma wrong about high taxes and the economy.

GAH!

Those 50s illustrations were cliches of idealized Americans of the time. So yeah, inbred by the artist’s thinking to capture what Americans saw as the ideal Mom, Dad, Buddy and Sis and their kitty cat and doggy. Everyone was happily married and cozy in their nuclear home.

Why do libtards and progressives hate all that perfect fake life???

I do wonder that with the much wider video and photo capacity now loose whether or not local police department sobriety checkpoints might suddenly be the brunt of lawsuits regarding illegal searches and other abuses of rights.

Depending on the backers of the suit(s) the local communities might not like having to fund the lawyering the defense of the actions will require. Or the settlement costs if they lose.

I’d be happy to return to the top income tax rates of the 1950’s. Here’s the top from 1955:

91% top tax on regular income
25% top rate on capital gains
52% top rate on corporate tax
$400,000 highest income tax tier

In 1955, one-third of US workers belonged to a union, banks paid 3% interest on straight savings, two earner households were the exception rather than the rule, and a high school diploma was enough to get you a job that would enable you to raise a family without starving.

Ariana Grande likes the taste of donuts, but she “hates” America and Americans.

In security footage obtained by TMZ, the pop singer was in a donut shop and appeared to lick unpurchased donuts on a display rack twice while the shop’s employee wasn’t looking.

“Two guys come in front of you for stealing your car, and one of them came in with a suit and tie on and had both parents there, and you’re in school and everything else,” he said, “and the other one comes in with an old raggedy T-shirt with an attitude like, ‘Screw you, judge’ — they have sentencing guidelines, the guidelines for each of those people because of their prior record, or lack of it, would be the same — but as a judge would you treat them the same?

All anyone has to do is play Kasich’s talk where he calls the trooper an idiot, then watch the actual traffic stop, and it’s easy to see what a jerk he is. (Just one example; there are many, as you well know. And plunderbund has excellent Kasich as a jerk archives.)

plunderbund.com

Lets just put that one YouTube video up for the LGF members to get their own feel for Kasich. A reminder to the members, Kasich was using the cop as an example in his trying to fight to keep Ohio SB 5 alive - the bill to limit collective bargaining by state employees which was passed by the Ohio House but repealed by a voter drive.

Another YouTube vid. Here is an interview with the policeman that pulled him over about Kasich’s comments and his feelings on SB5.

And if there is any question that Kasich did not move over for the stopped State Patrol car, this video is the actual stop. It’s the full thing, all you need watch is Kasich not moving over and the cop pulling him over at the beginning. The rest is just procedure and you really can’t hear Kasich due to road noise.

I worked for a while at an architecural firm in downtown St. Paul that was above the usual route that downtown parades followed. One of the architects casually suggested that since we didn’t have tickertape that we could throw out our windows, we should throw out all our brick samples instead. I LOL’ed.

If this is accurate (who knows?) a very large cyber-attack is coming from China into the US:

It would be irresponsible not to..

$10,000?

The top end one (with a Troy oz. of gold) is $10k. The lesser versions start @ $349 and $549.

I know. And the expensive ones were always going to be a drop in the bucket, saleswise.

“I hope to have God on my side, but I must have Kentucky.”

A. Lincoln

perhaps apocryphal (fake quote BUT ACCURATE)

Seriously, some very careful balancing Lincoln needed to do to keep Kentucky and other border states officially in the Union.

One of my favorite Kentucky Civil War politicians.

Cassius Marcellus Clay (October 19, 1810 - July 22, 1903), nicknamed The Lion of White Hall.

[…]Clay served in the Mexican-American War as a Captain with the 1st Kentucky Cavalry from 1846 to 1847. He opposed the annexation of Texas and expansion of slavery into the Southwest. While making a speech for abolition in 1849, Clay was attacked by the six Turner brothers, who beat, stabbed and tried to shoot him. In the ensuing fight, Clay fought off all six and, using his Bowie knife, killed Cyrus Turner[…]

He later served Lincoln as US Minister to Russia, securing Russia’s support for the US.

Why? Does the government still do business in 1950’s dollars?

No, because your costs aren’t in 1950’s dollars. (Calculate the tax on $400,000 by that scale. What would be left?)

(Sorry to take so long to see this.)
