I completely understand the families of the victim’s, but they’ve got the wrong person behind them. Ugh. It really does break my heart. We do have to fix the immigration problem, but do it in a sensible, rational way. Not placate to xenophobic assholes.

Grrr, I really hate this. But at the same time, he’s really showing how racist and delusional the GOP are.

21
goddamnedfrank  Jul 11, 2015 • 2:25:35pm

I typed this all out and then posted it in the dead thread so here it is again.

So I meet up with Dad for lunch at the Egg House and behind him there’s a group of three farmhand looking white young men. One is wearing a cowboy hat, one in overalls, one just generic country looking. This is Simi, so it’s already really white, but still they stand out because while we have some horse properties this isn’t exactly a farming community. Meanwhile three young black men come in and sit down a few tables away.

Anyway with his back to the rural looking white dudes Dad brings up the publication of Harper Lee’s rediscovered Go Set a Watchman and says it looks like it’s going to be disappointing. I say “Yep, apparently Atticus is a racist.” Immediately one of the young men turns around and fucking stares at me pointedly. I stare back, and getting annoyed am about to say “What, is your name Atticus?” when he finally turns around. Dad doesn’t notice so I let it go.

Later Dad whispers to me “Don’t let me sit next to these guys again.” And again I let it go and don’t ask what the fuck that’s about because they’re still there and I don’t want to start shit in the Egg House because I’m a regular there and don’t want to get thrown out.

Then our (very Mexican) waiter starts up a conversation with the young men, asks them where they’re from (Tennessee, Arizona, and some other shithole I can’t make out, maybe Oklahoma.) They talk some more then the waiter kind of rolls his eyes and walks away.

After the three young white men leave I ask Dad what his problem was and he says they kept pushing against the booth back and jostling him. The Egg House booth backs are super loose, which is something I should probably talk to the owner about because it’s getting really annoying.

Then the waiter comes back and again we’re regulars so I ask what was up with those guys that made him roll his eyes and he laughs and says “They’re really racist.” Apparently they used to live in Simi and now come back to meet up. He was asking them if they liked it where they’re living now and they all did, because “there’s no people with funny haircuts.” He says as they said this they made an indication towards the table of young black men.

So I’m thinking, when that kid stared at me he must have just locked in on the word racist. Then it occurred to me that a person must get called racist all the goddamned time to just hear the word and assume the person saying it is talking about them.

Anyway that’s my story for the day.

If you’re ever in Simi the nice thing about the Egg House, beyond the complimentary coffee cake, Low Carb Scramble and Crab Benedict plates, is that the owner heavily employs Mexican dudes for both front and back of the house jobs, he promotes from within. The rival, Eggs ‘n Things, is managed by some old white lady who only lets the Mexicans bus tables and work in the kitchen, and almost entirely reserves the server positions for white ladies. The Eggs ‘n Things Omelette is damned good, and you get a complimentary Swedish pancake, but it comes with a side of racism.

Doubtful. You have to draw the pentagram just so. The smallest flaw and enough Chaos slips through to corrupt things for miles around.

I wonder who’s behind the GOP these days; Tzeentch or or Khorne. The Machiavellian back biting and general confusion would indicate The Architect of Fate. The howling blood thirst seems that The Blood God is running things.

Speaking of which, doesn’t the Chaos Army seem surprisingly organized? ;)

Because GM doesn’t make cars that Japanese want to buy.

Is the name of this movie supposed to be “Il Duce comes to America”.
??

Trump doesn’t have the military credentials to play the role. He’s more like the rich Italians who backed Mussolini as a way to stop what they saw as dangerous spreading of communism in the aftermath of WWI. Factory workers were openly meeting in Soviet-style ‘Workers’ Councils’ and some rural rich families had been raided at home.

There were some murders in these raids, although like the dangers seen from black people by English-speaking whites at the same time, the prevalence of such attacks was significantly exaggerated (though unlike in the American South in the early 1920’s, some of the crimes luridly reported actually did occur in Italy). The rich feared a Communist takeover of Italy, followed by their murder at the hands of Bolshevik executioners. So they backed Mussolini, figuring he could get rid of the Communists and settle some of the public grievances without dispossessing the rich.

Why were the rural poor and the working class so pissed off in Italy? I’ll let John Schindler field that one.

CNN already blew a hole in Trump’s ideas for how to fight Daesh, a hole so wide you could drive a BMP through it:

“If I win, I would attack those oil sites that are controlled and owned — they are controlled by ISIS,” Trump said. “I wouldn’t send many troops because you won’t need ‘em by the time I’m done.”

But that strategy might do more harm than good, according to two former U.S. military officers and CNN military analysts who looked at Trump’s suggestion. That’s because bombing Iraq’s oil fields would be a serious blow to Iraq and efforts to recover once ISIS is expelled from the country.

“You’re destroying the infrastructure of Iraq, you’re not really doing much to hurt ISIS,” retired Lt. Col. Rick Francona said. “At some future point those oil fields will have to help regenerate Iraq.”

The United States did strike oil fields in Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm in the 1990s, which hurt Kuwait for years after the war.

While Trump suggested that he would then send in Exxon or another oil company to quickly rebuild the infrastructure once the conflict is over, Francona and Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, another CNN military analyst, said rebuilding infrastructure is easier said than done — especially when other surrounding infrastructure has been damaged in the process.

“We’ve made some huge mistakes in terms of just bombing things we think can just bring a nation to its knees,” Hertling said. “It’s not the people you’re going against and yet those are the ones you’re going against the most when you’re talking about indiscriminate carpet-bombing.”

I’m just curious, as I’ve noticed this from a few folks on here: Why do you call it Daesh, when the common term here (the US) is ISIS?

In addition to what D_F said—which is correct—it’s usually used in a derogatory manner and has the added benefit of not giving them free advertising by using the name they prefer. It also robs them of the legitimacy they crave by associating their name with the religion.

BTW, Da’esh is an acronym for the Arabic version of their name:

The term “Daesh” is strategically a better choice because it is still accurate in that it spells out the acronym of the group’s full Arabic name, al-Dawla al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham. Yet, at the same time, “Daesh” can also be understood as a play on words — and an insult. Depending on how it is conjugated in Arabic, it can mean anything from “to trample down and crush” to “a bigot who imposes his view on others.” Already, the group has reportedly threatened to cut out the tongues of anyone who uses the term.

The rest of the rabble have shouted down the dissenters, and are eagerly awaiting the day Pres. Trump / VP Cruz ride their T-Rexs down Pennsylvania Ave to their Inauguration. (OK the T-Rex part I made up)

Unfortunately, they are making advances in Libya. Against the MB Government controlled by Misrata.

Towards Misrata.

I know Blade 2was the weakest of the three Blade movies, but its premise still reminds me of Daesh irresistibly:

Daesh (ISIS, ISIL, etc.) is the real-world equivalent of that movie’s “Reaper Strain” of vampirism, and the Muslim Brotherhood is the groups of ‘normal’ vampires it attacks, infects, and destroys.

Everywhere Daesh takes hold, it takes over or destroys all MB organs and organizations. Which also why Hamas fears Daesh so much; Like all totalitarian movements, the ‘Islamic State’ as a list of people it wants to kill and MB leaders are some of the first people slated for death.

Yes, Trump just said he’d send Sgt. Bergdahl back to the Taliban.

So we reached the day when a candidate running to become President of the United States of America suggests turning one of our own over to the enemy. I hope the Democrats rip him a new and very large one by the time the Sunday AM shows are done.

Oh, he pissed off the Brits years ago. Trump is literally a laughing stock there.
