Two computers, exactly the same model. I do a clean install of windows 7 on both. One computer works just fine. The second computer has one of the two processors pegged, with the amdk8.sys driver eating all of that processing.

UGH!

One more suggestion for a gift:

Pix-star 15” digital photo frame

These are great digital picture frames. The best part is that you can email photos/videos to the frame and control it via the web. Son gave me one a couple of years ago and we love it since we get current photos from the whole family without fuss, they just email to the frame. Always a delight seeing new photos appearing.

I just realized something. All the stuff about Jade Helm being located in the Southwest was (is) an elaborate misdirection. Really, do you think that that SOCOM can’t maintain security on a freaking Power Point presentation.

They are actually doing the drills in Montana, Wyoming, places like that.

I’m having an inspired night, which has been rare in my poetry lately…

UNWAVERING

Lead me beside the shore of still waters,
on a brilliant late summers day.
Take me to where the wind seldom blows,
and storm clouds are far, far away.

A place where there are no radio waves,
or talking heads on a 60 inch screen.
Somewhere I can actually hear my own thoughts,
A spot somewhat soft and serene.

Far from endless political ranting,
or games on the Playstation 4.
Just a little pocket of heaven,
that’s silent, peaceful in its core.

Miles from the nearest great highway,
Off the path from an old gravel road,
That’s where my place is awaiting,
perfect as ever, I’m told.

So turn off the phones and computers,
stay away from your Facebook my friend.
Take time to enjoy things around you,
Take time for your spirit to mend.

If you’re lucky then one day I’ll take you,
to my special spot down by the lake.
But you should only come when you’re ready,
if too soon, it would be a mistake.

Free yourself from the digital slavery,
take your eyes off the bright LCDs,
I’m waiting out here where it’s quiet,
and I feel the pride of my heart in the breeze.

Let’s add it up in shorthand; I love my military and veterans and police. They can do no wrong. But I need all the cop killer slugs and body armor I can get my hands on along with more fire power I could carry. In case those who I love were to turn on me because I fear them. I mean I love them, but they could turn on me. Just look at them. Why are they here? What did I do? You can’t trust them. That’s why I have to arm myself to the teeth. Because they could if they wanted to take over and we have to arm ourselves to protect ourselves from ourselves. And where are you from?

So, I’ve read some stuff, listen to the radio here and there, seen the video. And I’m disgusted by what I’m hearing and seeing.

The local talk radio has a local guy doing a two hour show (broadcast outside of Aspen) on weekdays and I listened to his monologue. He approached the abortion debate as if us humans have genuinely become more callous as a species because we allow abortion. The phrase he used grated me so: “Abortion shouldn’t be a debate about law, it should be a debate about where our hearts are.” Like women are getting fucking pregnant willy nilly and receiving their aborsh, giving about as much thought to the whole matter as getting a mani/pedi.

It made me so mad! Women’s reproductive health - safe, legal birth control and abortions and a panoply of wonderful services Planned Parenthood offers - is making us more callous as a species.

And NPR and BBC gave this fucking fraud of a video the time of day, even letting the piece of shit that thinks abortion doctors deserve to die that created this video give them a quote. “It’s an illegal, disgusting thing, and evil” or something to that effect.

We need to fight this shit!

Here in Austin, Jade Helm is obviously a clear and present danger. It is happening only 15 miles east of us in Bastrop!

In reaction, we are hoarding MREs and we’re not buying breakfast tacos tomorrow. We’ll be huddling in our shelters because of the imminent threat of a takeover by blue-helmeted UN troops.

And, oh, by the way, the obvious next step will be the confiscation of our guns and being interred in tunnels below local Wal-Marts.

At least, that’s the LSD fever dream being pushed by the local cranks.

Me, I’m looking at the brutal Tour de France leg tomorrow and how the first round of the British Open will play out with our UT boy, Jordan Spieth, on center stage.

Proximity of the ceiling. Not for me. Cannot stand any space like that where I can’t stand up straight.

I was watching the Great Escape, which didn’t trigger my claustrophobia because they were obviously in an open, three sided tunnel. Then I suspended my disbelief for a moment and got the Willies.

For a while in high school I slept underneath my loft bed. Only accessible by crawling under the desk.

…I admit I was an odd child.

Anyway we consider the trailer an excellent upgrade from tent camping, in that I have a real mattress with sheets and a comforter that I cannot roll off of (this is an ongoing problem). There is also less putting-a-wet-tent-away to deal with.

This may mean

SNOW and lots of it along the Pacific coast. That’s what happened the last time, very late 20th century.

The Mt. Baker Ski Area in northwestern Washington State reported 1,140 inches of snowfall for the 1998-99 snowfall season.

I also read that El NInos bring an increase in temperature, which could mean a temporary respite in drought conditions but very little snowpack in the California Sierras, which is also critical.

I grow increasingly worried that someday there will be a major natural and/or man-made disaster that will necessitate calling out military forces to restore order and vital services.

At which point, Jade Helm-conspiracy loonies will be convinced tht it is a government coup and come out shooting at anything they find suspicious or un-American..

It could get ugly.

Only salvation might be if the Internet remains down and they cannot spread and reinforce their idiot theories.

On the other hand, these attitudes are so ingrained into their inbred brains that they no longer need the Internet to whip them into a violent, assault gun-toting rage.

I wonder if conspira-liars and other hucksters have managed to actually get money from the Russians on the pretext that their conspiracy claims could provoke an armed uprising over Jade Helm? Stranger things have happened. It would look like a real possibility to someone who grew up under communism and who knows nothing about American right-wing media culture and its history of ritualized hyperbole.

We know there are right-wing politicians in Russia who take the Texas secessionists seriously. If your context is Chechnya and similar breakaway politics, it might seem believable. At least some of these mis-informed nutcakes have advocated sending arms to the Texas secessionists.

I know this idea of secret, paid collusion with foreign powers goes against the grain of many liberals. It has too many echoes of HUAC and McCarthy. That’s certainly understandable but this is a different situation and a different century.
We already have much better evidence of right-wing collusion with the Russians than HUAC and McCarthy ever had against American lefties.
We also know, from plain, obvious examination, that the Kremlins’s state owned propaganda outlet, rt.com, has been a leader in spreading Jade Helm nuttery. Many right wingers treat rt.com as gospel. We also have the huge social media propaganda operation exposed by the NYT among others.

Suppose further, though, that Putin and his propaganda managers come to realize that they have been scammed. What might happen to the scammers?

LEXINGTON, S.C. - Gov. Scott Walker, who recently expressed support for a ban on gay Boy Scout leaders because it “protected children,” said Wednesday that he did not mean that children needed “physical protection” from gay scoutmasters — but rather protection from the debate over the ban.

In comments published on Tuesday by The Independent Journal Review, a news website that is popular with young conservatives, Mr. Walker, a former Eagle Scout, said, “I have had a lifelong commitment to the Scouts and support the previous membership policy because it protected children and advanced Scout values.” Yet during a brief news conference in South Carolina on Wednesday, Mr. Walker said that he was not pushing to save the ban — “it’s up to the Boy Scouts” — and that his earlier remarks were not about protecting children from gay people.

According to the NYT this morning, Jade Helm freakazoids in Texas are “burying” their guns, to protect them from Obama’s Jade Helmers. What happened to the whole “You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold dead fingers” ethos?

Also, do you want to know what Internet wacko Alex Jones thinks the “Helm” in Jade Helm means? Of course you do.

A report on Infowars, a website operated by Alex Jones, a libertarian-leaning talk radio host from Texas, suggested the name Helm was an acronym for Homeland Eradication of Local Militants.

I think what will end up being telling during the coming debates is that the GOP will have no alternative plan, no ideas for how to deal with Iran besides promises to scuttle the current agreement and vague talk about “leadership” and “strength.” Meanwhile, over in the DNC ranks, it looks like the only person who is dinging the agreement is Webb, whose popularity is within the margin of error anyway. So come next fall, you’re going to have a Republican who has not really been pressed to say what he’d do about Iran, versus Hillary or Sanders telling folks (rightly) that a deal is better than no deal and we’re not going to get a deal if we keep insisting on Iran giving us everything for nothing.

There was a time when I didn’t give much thought to Planned Parenthood or the abortion discussion. They didn’t directly impact or affect me. But a few years ago, I began seeing what the right wing was doing in systematically trying to eliminate PP and all that they do - all the health care services they offer, all because they also provide abortion services that are legal under federal and state law.

This is about access to health care. It’s about depriving women of access to health care. It’s about misogyny and calling out the GOP for being the party of small government - so small that it fits up inside lady bits and supplants science with their fictional beliefs about conception and when life begins. They are willing to put the existence of a zygote ahead of the lives of women who are actually alive. They want to put their own doctrines into action, which would adversely affect the lives of women across the country and deprive them of access to health care.

As some know, I had been addressing a long term health crisis over the past few years, and it too got me thinking about how regular screenings and health care can help reduce health care costs. A mammogram that can catch breast cancer before it spreads can save hundreds of thousands of dollars. A vaccine for HPV can actually prevent certain kinds of cancers in men and women, which too can reduce/save hundreds of thousands of dollars in health care costs that can be better spent elsewhere.

It’s one of the reasons I’ve come out so strongly against anti-vaxxers and those who argue against the HPV vaccines - they are not only unnecessarily putting lives at risk with their BS, but they are adding to health care costs that can be avoided by preventing disease in the first place.

The GOP stands astride both of these themes - being against PP, depriving women of access to health care, and encouraging anti-vaxxer beliefs with their thoroughly anti-science/anti-rational campaigns.

So to say I have been utterly dismayed by the way that the media swarmed to the whole fabricated video is an understatement. This is a bogus video that doesn’t say what the proponents think it say. And I call it bogus because the entire underlying premise is wrong. The proponents claim that it shows PP engaging in sales of fetal tissue. It does not. It purports criminality where none exists.

It was intended to launch investigations and force PP to spend money defending itself against claims, in the hopes that Congress would take another crack at reducing funding to the organization.

That would ultimately reduce the ability of women across the national to get health care.

That’s what the GOP supports by going through with this nonsense. They are out to deprive women of access to health care and it cannot and should not be tolerated by anyone.

/rant off.

You work in a small business where your boss sets the wage and so can appreciate the extra effort put in? That’s great, do what you can to get that few cents more an hour.

But if you work for anything larger, particularly if you’re working for a franchise or a major corporation? HA! You’re gonna find out pretty quickly that your boss has little to no control over raises, that they come on a preset schedule, and the only real way to earn a raise is to get a promotion. So if you’re low down on the totem pole, all you’re doing with that “bucking” is giving your boss reason to pile more work atop your desk.

They can’t take Alex…it would be too obvious and would scare off his followers. No, they will let him go on so they can follow all the people that are logged into his show. That’s how they track you, they follow the internet connection and then they show up outside the house and gather you up and take you to WalMart.

They need Jones now and when they don’t he will be disappeared!

But no one will ever know because the Feds will keep repeating Alex Jones past shows. The duffs that listen to him will never figure out that they keep hearing the same conspiracy and false flag stories over and over. No different than any other day with Alex Jones.

Yep, all that “bucking” will lead your boss to believe that that’s your normal level of performance, not you simply pushing yourself harder to impress him. As we saw during the Great Recession, what that will lead to is his firing the guy next to you, putting that guy’s workload atop yours, and counting that towards “cost cutting.”

My own opinion is that small towns reinforce the tribalism that is part of human nature. They love their tribe and hate ‘outsiders’.

Cities pretty much force people to expand their definition of ‘tribe’.

This. Having grown up in a town of 500 where everyone else’s family had been there for 100 years, you’re considered an outsider pretty much forever.

And it seems that you tend to see more tribalism in the parts of cities that are relatively isolated (ie cultural/racial/class groups) than in the more cosmopolitan areas.

I think your hypothesis is worthy of further investigation.

Another day, another active shooter situation that may be on a college campus (now in lockdown).

A student at Chattanooga State has confirmed to NewsChannel 9 that the school has been locked down.

Police shut down Amnicola Highway and officers were redirecting traffic from the area.

NewsChannel 9’s Drew Bollea is near the scene, near the Coca-Cola plant.

Drew reports that he heard about a half-dozen shots in rapid succession.

Bollea says he has seen almost thirty emergency vehicles heading to the area, including Chattanooga Police, Hamiton County Emergency Vehicles, and Hamilton County Sheriff’s office vehicles.

Bollea says he saw numerous officers with rifles and guns drawn.

But remember, we don’t have a firearms problem in the country.

Consider this: the PP video was the least silly thing that the wingers could find to use as a distraction. They’re going to need more distractions in the months to come as some of them do terrible things and their candidates utter the occasional appallingly stupid remark. That’s going to eventually result in some very silly things being used as fodder for the outrage machine.

First positive thing I’ve seen at CNN in years:

Bakari Sellers joins CNN as contributor

Note—one graph in this story is odd—

He is the son of civil rights activist Cleveland Sellers, who was wounded in the Orangeburg Massacre in 1968 in which three South Carolina State University students were killed and 27 injured in a clash with Highway Patrol officers during a protest over a segregated bowling alley.

Odd because it fails to mention that Cleveland Sellers was the only person involved on either side who went to prison, which certainly seems relevant to the story.

Hello, Lizards, from the wilds of Odry.

Some news from the Czech Republic - Ennio Morricone is due in Prague this weekend to record the soundtrack to The Hateful Eight with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

Less than a week after that announcement, Morricone is due to begin recording the music for The Hateful Eight on Friday with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble’s director Jan Hasenöhrl is delighted about the booking - and says it will be a busy few days.

“I think the name says it all. For us this already means a lot, because Mr. Morricone didn’t hesitate to call us directly. We’re looking forward to him, to the director, and to the music… It’s a bit complicated because we have the closing concert of the Prague Proms on Sunday, where as part of a Hollywood night we’re playing Morricone’s music from Django and The Mission. But we will still manage to record everything between Friday and Monday; Tuesday at the latest.”

Nearly every major figure in the Bible predating Moses (and Abraham for that matter) lived beyond 120 years of age.

Adam: 930 years
Seth lived 912
Lamech lived 777 years;
Noah: 950 years
Shem lived 600 years.
Abraham lived to 175 years
Isaac: 180 years.
Jacob: 147 years.
Aaron: 123 years.
Moses lived only 120 years.

You’d think that someone who professes knowledge about the Bible would remember something as simple as that.

Today’s TBI advice: listen to Bach and Mozart playing softly while I sleep. This comes from a guy I see in the coffee shop all the time, but have not conversed with before today (that I remember, he says we have). He said he ‘helped with’ or ‘worked with’ ( but did not say he ‘did’) neurosurgery in Vietnam. He said they brought guys with head injuries out of deep comas by playing little radios by their ears. And that the ‘logic’ and ‘organization’ of classical music would help more than other music.

I like this advice better than the suggestions about hyperbaric chambers, herbs, or shining special lights in my eyes.

The shooting situation in Chattanooga appears to have been in multiple locations, and potentially with multiple victims. Considering that events are spread over potentially multiple locations and information is slow to come in, early reports are likely to be wrong, inaccurate, or incomplete - so watch the network media outlets jump to conclusions about who was behind this or make definitive statements about information relating to the situation. It’s what they do.

A shooting incident that began on the U.S. Naval Recruiting on Lee Highway ended at the U.S. Naval Reserve Center on Amincola Highway Thursday morning.

A Chattanooga police officer was shot according to Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke.

There may be other victims, but a number has not been confirmed.

Roads around both areas are closed to traffic as the investigation continues.

From there:

The incidents reflect the still-ongoing hostility between Greece and Turkey. Both countries are NATO member states, but are divided over the Cyprus conflict, with Turkey being the sole country to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as an independent state. Oil and natural gas deposits around Cyprus have also become a point of contention between the countries.

This distrust of Turkey is so deeply routed that it is one of the primary reasons that Athens continues to devote a larger share of its GDP to defense than almost any other NATO nation despite its ongoing budgetary issues.

The 2.4% of GDP that Greece is projected to spend on defense in 2015 is actually a sharp decrease from the country’s previous spending habits. Throughout the 1980s, Greece’s average defense budget was 6.2% of its GDP largely due to tensions with its Turkish neighbor.

It will not surprise me if some of those nitwits open fire on Army personnel, and then are shocked that professional soldiers tend to shoot to kill when attacked.

There was an article in the NYT last night about these assholes. The story starts off by talking to a doctor who is stocking up on ammo, because you can’t trust Obama’s military.

Jesus, most of the replies on that tweet are classic conservative: “Yeah, the photo is fake, but that’s not the point!”

Why is it so hard people to get the concept that fabricated material doesn’t prove your point?

According to Wikipedia:

In 1926, Sanger gave a lecture on birth control to the women’s auxiliary of the Ku Klux Klan in Silver Lake, New Jersey.[47] She described it as “one of the weirdest experiences I had in lecturing,” and added that she had to use only “the most elementary terms, as though I were trying to make children understand.”[47] Sanger’s talk was well received by the group, and as a result, “a dozen invitations to similar groups were proffered.”[47]

I’m amazed at the idea of KKK women enthusiastic for birth control information in 1926.

A young man died here in Austin of a reported self inflicted snake bite. Now his “pet” Monicaled Cobra is reportedly missing…..

So there’s that……

Ron McGill of Miami-Dade Zoo has said that he received a phone call - from a house in South Dade - wanting Ron to come get a monocled cobra out of the back yard.

McGill figured the caller was wrong in identifying the snake, but when he arrived, it was a monocled cobra.

So he caught it and took it back to the Zoo.

There are folk in South Florida who keep venomous snakes in their home, so this snake must have escaped or set free.

Goes well with all the Burmese pythons living in the everglades.

Most interesting - the part at the very bottom:

Officials at Planned Parenthood contend the video was edited to create the appearance of the start of a financial transaction. Planned Parenthood also said it only donates fetal organs and tissue when the mother has explicitly given consent, in accordance with the law.

The Center for Medical Progress did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

You’d think that the CMP would want to identify and prove the veracity of their claims, but that wasn’t their intention. It was to shit-stir and cause all manner of undeserved difficulty for PP, and they’re succeeding.

If anything, the real investigation and attention should be on CMP - who’s funding it, who’s behind it, and who will be held accountable when taxpayer money is wasted on this witch hunt that will find no laws broken by PP.

re: #406 Jenner7

My doggy is not acting right. He’s been pooping and peeing (it’s mostly peeing) in the house and he’s usually good about it. It started July 4th, so we thought it was fireworks. But he’s still doing it. Could it still be the lasting effects of fireworks or something more?? Maybe a bladder infection? He drinks tons of water and is peeing gallons, it seems like. We can’ t get in to a vet for a couple of weeks, but they said we could pick up antibiotics if we think it’s a virus.

He’s still active and playful, but we just know that something is off. Whaddya all think?

Antibiotics won’t do any good if it’s a virus, but would help a bladder infection.
Drinking tons of water and peeing gallons sounds like possible diabetes (yes, dogs can be diabetic).
How old is he?

Black women can’t catch a break in the RW press. They’re either portrayed pushing out single-parent babies by the cartload or aborting them in the third trimester by the bushel.

Get his kidneys checked. Antibiotics for a virus? Does not compute…? Maybe get a urine sample into the vet?

OK, good that you know signs and symptoms of canine diabetes.
Three years old is young for this to start happening. I have a JRT who is at least 10 years old (a rescue)…she started that pee/poop thing about a year ago but for her it’s “old dog can’t hold it all night”.

If you are really concerned you might apply at carecredit

It only takes a few minutes and many vets accept. If bill is 200 or more you can get 0 interest for 6 or twelve months, I forget which. It would take a while to get the card but you can use right away.

Had to use it recently for my pooch.

I also use CareCredit and the $0 interest for 6 months is a great option. Just try to pay off before the 6 month window closes.

I’m leaning towards infection because of what happened last night. When he needs to go, he comes down stairs to me and last night, he headed straight to door. I went to get up to take him out and I heard him peeing. He just couldn’t hold it. And this was only about 30 minutes after I cleaned up another accident.

Texas A&M (the same “school” that gave us dubyah and Perry) does have a medical school.

Dubya’s policies remind me of the only “Aggie” joke I can remember, the one where a Texas A&M Aggie drops a dime in the toilet in the men’s room. He stares disconsolately at it for a moment, then takes a quarter out of his pocket, throws it in, and sticks his hand in the toilet bowl to fish them out. A bystander says: “Why the hell did you throw that quarter in for?” “I ain’t sticking my hand in there for no dime!”
