Republican Party Is Planning to Capitalize on Deceptive Right Wing Planned Parenthood Video

The party of dishonest hacks
Politics • Views: 62,131

It comes as no surprise that the Republican Party is now planning to capitalize on the blatantly dishonest, deceptively edited Planned Parenthood “sting” video, with yet another big push to roll back women’s rights.

With everything these politicians should be focusing on, this is what they choose to do — attack women’s health providers and the right to a safe, legal abortion.

The GOP is going hard on abortion politics — and Planned Parenthood specifically — following the release of the video depicting a top official for the group casually talking about doctors collecting fetal organs for biomedical companies during abortions.

“The gravity of the situation most definitely” changes things, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) told POLITICO Thursday. “This is not just Republicans. It’s independents. It’s Democrats…. Americans don’t want their tax dollars spent doing what they’re doing.”

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and his two top deputies — McCarthy and Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) — called for investigations almost immediately after the controversial video was made public, including whether it profits off fetal body parts. And within 24 hours, at least two powerful committees had announced probes on the issue.

McCarthy is already talking about defunding the organization through the appropriations process. And in the Senate, GOP leaders who have been eyeing a vote on legislation banning abortions after 20 weeks of gestation say this will give them momentum to clear the bill later this session.

Just to recap again: the right wing operatives who made this video tried their best to get Planned Parenthood medical director Dr. Deborah Nucatola to say they “sell” fetal tissue and organs, but she specifically denied this — more than once — saying: “Nobody should be selling tissue. That’s just not the goal here.”

Despite this very clear statement to the contrary, these right wing operatives then made a video that says Planned Parenthood is selling fetal tissue, and now the Republican Party is jumping aboard the Deception Express and trying to push this absolutely false claim.

Most people would call a tactic like this “lying.”

UPDATE at 7/17/15 9:25:39 am by Charles Johnson

Also note that Republican lawmakers actually saw this video weeks before it was released to the public, and now are unwilling to answer questions about why they waited until now to take action.

Rep. Tim Murphy, a member of the House Pro-Life Caucus and chairman of the Energy and Commerce subcommittee looking into the video, said at a Wednesday news conference he’d seen the clip weeks before. Asked afterward why he and others waited until this week to take action, Murphy struggled for an answer before abruptly ending the interview with CQ Roll Call, saying he should not be quoted and remarking, “This interview didn’t happen.”

After ACORN and Sandra Fluke, is anybody really surprised that the GOP is willing to buy into a massive deception just to further their own goals? What seems to have been the biggest thorn in their side is that the majority of their “scandals” never went anywhere and didn’t do more than inconvenience the White House. But this is a situation practically tailor-made for a repeat of ACORN, as we can see in the pledges to defund PP even before the damned investigations have begun.

So, we defund PP for not doing anything illegal, depriving millions of women of access to affordable contraception and of breast and cervical cancer screenings.

Then in 5-10 years, we wonder why so many lower income women are being diagnosed with later stage breast and cervical cancer.

But on the plus side there will be a lot more single moms to slutshame.

Fuckers.

From the third link:

While abortion issues can be sensitive for moderate Republicans, the GOP is betting the video will turn off many voters, allowing them to press their case without political blowback.

The blowback will be suffered by the one selected to run against Hillary. The Republicans are making sure now that women will not vote for them.

This doesn’t answer your questions but helpful to repeat:

factcheck.org

Q: How much of Planned Parenthood’s services are dedicated to abortions? Does the federal government fund those procedures?

A: Abortions represent 3 percent of total services provided by Planned Parenthood, and roughly 10 percent of its clients received an abortion. The group does receive federal funding, but the money cannot be used for abortions by law.

Rod Dreher, of course, has found a way to link Caitlyn Jenner and Planned Parenthood.

Not kidding…

I had a very of-the-moment experience the other night at bedtime in my hotel room. After reading about the unmitigated horror of Planned Parenthood’s customized cannibalizing of fetal body parts, I toggled over to the ESPN site to watch the propaganda video the network made to set up its awarding Caitlyn Jenner its Arthur Ashe Courage Prize.

I encourage you to watch the clip, which is about 13 minutes long. It is a remarkable piece of work, and profoundly indicative of the deepest metaphysical assumptions of Western culture today. Jenner’s heroism, according to the film, consists in his dramatic refusal of Nature — of imposing his own will and desires on nature so profoundly that he repudiates his own nature as a male.
*****
How do we define the human person within the natural order? The way we answer this question has everything to do with how we judge what Bruce Jenner has done by reinventing himself as Caitlyn — is he a hero or a fool? — and, for that matter, how we regard the Planned Parenthood fetal body part harvesting….In both the Caitlyn and Planned Parenthood cases, the stand you take has everything to do with what you think it means to be human, and how you relate the human being to the natural order. Modernity generally sees the material world as meaningless matter that we can fashion however we like. The older world — including the world of Christianity — teaches that God is intimately involved with Creation, and that we therefore have strict limits governing how we should treat it, including our bodies.

Gotta work in a referrence to his new book on how reading Dante made him an even better moral arbiter on American civilization…

When I watch that Caitlyn propaganda video, I am reminded of Ulysses in Canto XXVI of Dante’s Inferno. Ulysses is damned as a “false counselor” — as someone who used his rhetorical gifts to lead others to their deaths. In the version of the myth Dante uses, Ulysses chose to violate the limits the gods set on how far man may voyage….Caitlyn Jenner, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, and the rest of us: Western culture is having a Ulysses moment. Our own captains of media and culture are exhorting us to be brave, and “to follow paths of excellence and knowledge” — but it’s a lie.

This will not end well.

My work is done. Transgender women will destroy America and we will sift through the ashes with the hair brushes we bought from Belks.

Also, too…

Dreher needs professional help.

And the rate of forcible rape (as defined by the UCR) has decreased at a lower rate than other violent crime. (Violent crime from 2006 to 2012 decreased by 19.28% while the rate for forcible rape only decreased by 14.87%.)

Ugh.

The 11 free-agent billionaires to keep an eye on in 2016

It’s official. 2016 is the billionaires’ election.

As presidential candidates shared with the world this week how much money they’ve raised so far, it became clear that super PACS are taking over the heavy lifting when it comes to fundraising. Outside groups like super PACs and nonprofits have raised $4 out of every $5 for the GOP from April to June, according to The Washington Post’s Matea Gold and Anu Narayanswamy.

In fact, at this point in 2015, super PACs for individual candidates have raised 17 times as much money as they had at a similar moment in 2011, according to calculations made by Republican lobbyist Bruce Mehlman. […]

Hanged herself? No. Strangled herself? Probably. I’ve carried in heavy bags and it felt like they were cutting my fingers off. The same tension around my neck for long enough, and it would strangle me. God—just thinking about it gives me the horrors.

They’ve lost on every important issue for the last month or so, and enough people are loudly pointing out that the Planned Parenthood story is based on a faked videotape, so they may not even manage to get their scalp for that. Their frontrunner is an extremely loud moron, and the rest of the field is going to have to be even louder and even dumber to get any attention, which will scare off every voter saner than Palin.

I think they know they’re cooked, and all they have left is trying to make people mad at them. It’s the only way they know they’re alive.

They’re trying to ACORN Planned Parenthood. Evil bastards.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) says as much:

And conservatives are betting the organization will take a financial hit. King, for example, was one of the first lawmakers to urge the defunding of low-income housing group ACORN, which went belly up following similar undercover videos suggesting criminal activity.

To this day, he keeps a tiny acorn in his pocket to remember his crusade. Now, he’s got his eyes on another organization.

“This represents ACORN’s scalp,” King said off the House floor Thursday, pulling the acorn out of his pocket. “Ask me after the appropriations cycle and see if I have a talisman in my pocket for Planned Parenthood’s.”

I’d bet that Twitter was watching that account very carefully to see if Chuckles would tip his hand, and it was only a matter of time.

His ego demanded it.

Good work! A celebratory GIF:

OK, I tried to embed that the other day, but got a tag labeled “MP4 Video” and it was just a thumbnail you had to keep starting over and over. Does a Vine have to be part of a tweet to show up as a GIF?

I have most of those.

A friend of mine owns the original Lemond Cycles Campy Tool Kit, from before the Trek era. He bought it off of Greg’s nephew, who worked with us at Gregg’s (not related, two G’s) Cycles in Greenlake.

Is there any task in gardening, or in the maintenance of a home and yard in general, that is as immediately rewarding and satisfying as weeding?

Painting, and you don’t get sore knees.

And to re-assemble? A book, plus those tools?

I liked How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot.

You might have to look in used bookstores for older editions now—they started covering the water-cooled Vanagons and whatnot at the expense of the early models.

I was offered a job at their Aurora store. Went to work for Bicycles West instead.

The Aurora Cycles location was horrible. Stan Gregg only bought it to prevent competition from installing themselves too close to him. It’s since been closed and moved to Lynnwood.

I am jealous!
I have only a few. The two-sided pedal wrench (lower left near the edge) is one of them. The rubberized grip has tooth marks in it - our beloved Daisy went trotting off with it in her mouth. I didn’t take it back right away because I was too surprised that she kept it even after realizing it was neither food nor stuffed’n’squeaky.

That’s the Bicycles West location I managed. Across from Alderwood Mall. They’ve moved, and changed owners.

Damn, you guys have been all over my stamping grounds. Now I keep moving progressively farther and farther south, but Ship Canal-Everett was where I spent most of my life. Drove by all of those places many many times.

These people are not just against the institution of Planned Parenthood, they are against the very idea of planning parenthood.

Of course. For most social conservatives, women’s place is in the kitchen, barefoot and involuntarily pregnant.

I lived in Everett for 8 years. Have you been there since it’s become a naval base? My Navy vet husband didn’t want to be there for that.

Haven’t spent a lot of time there in recent years, no. My point of view was: “If your town’s going to get pillaged by a navy, it doesn’t really matter if it’s yours or somebody else’s.”

Removing spider-webs.

Use a blowtorch. It removes them permanently (and is good for cooking squirrels).
