New York Times Editorial Board Slams Dishonest Planned Parenthood “Sting” Videos

A dishonest attempt to make legal, voluntary and potentially lifesaving tissue donations appear nefarious and illegal
Opinion • Views: 65,326
Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards

The New York Times holds nothing back in this excellent editorial on the blatantly deceptive “sting” videos released by the far right “Center for Medical Progress.”

A hidden-camera video released last week purported to show that Planned Parenthood illegally sells tissue from aborted fetuses. It shows nothing of the sort. But it is the latest in a series of unrelenting attacks on Planned Parenthood, which offers health care services to millions of people every year. The politicians howling to defund Planned Parenthood care nothing about the truth here, being perfectly willing to undermine women’s reproductive rights any way they can.

Yes it is about time, to bad that the crazies don’t care about truth, justice and the American way, unless that conforms totally to their preconceived notions.

The Center for Medical Progress — which managed to get tax-exempt status in 2013 as a biomedicine charity, according to a report by The Huffington Post — appears to have done little beyond producing the undercover video. According to its registration form with the California attorney general, it has three officers: Mr. Daleiden; Albin Rhomberg, who has participated in anti-abortion protests; and Troy Newman, the president of the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue.

Next time I hope PP checks with the State AG before meeting with any supposed “biomedical” group. Assuming they could have. But names like these are big. red. flags.

A few fellow lizards stated that they thought PP will get defunded. There will be a fight, but PP is not acorn. PP workers pass picket lines every time they go to work. They get death threats. They have been fighting for a long time and have tons of lawyers/lobbyists. They are much better prepared than Acorn. (one can argue that Acorn was not at all prepared, but that’s for another time).

I almost hope that this is a long fight, and becomes part of the presidential election. It’s an issue that will bring out a lot of votes, but conservatives will not win with it, because most American do NOT want to make all abortions illegal nor do they want to defund PP (because it prevents abortion). It may also make the Republican candidate even more conservative in the primaries.

So far, the only crimes this group has exposed are their own:

Illegally recording conversations without consent.

Violating patient privacy according to their statements about secretly filming in clinics.

Lying to the IRS and other government agencies while setting up their bogus medical firm.

I think it was a real unwise target for those idiot fucknoodles to hit. PP is seriously powerful but not because of palms they’ve greased. PP has been there for women for a century and I doubt I know a woman who has not used their services at some point. They took care of us - millions of us - creating a helluva force of support and goodwill… and $.

saving everyone a click and having to answer popup survey questions:

CENTENNIAL, Colo. - On Wednesday, the judge in the Aurora movie theater shooting trial banned Newsweek from the courthouse premises for the rest of the proceedings.

The national news outlet tweeted the jury foreman’s name last week.

The defense team was able to pull up and print the tweet Wednesday morning.

The defense requested the organization and its reporters be banned for violating court procedures protecting the jurors’ privacy and the judge agreed.

re: #4 Iwouldprefernotto

according to this annual report from 2013, between national and affiliates, PP has $1.6b in total assets and less than $300m in liabilities. They got 45% of their revenue from “Government Health Services Grants and Reimbursements”, which, if I’m reading right was around $540m all to affiliates and that includes Medicaid payments.

I doubt ACORN was anywhere near that sound financially. Then again, PP has been fighting for decades, so they should be ready

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry delivered a blistering critique of Donald Trump Wednesday, decrying the real estate mogul’s “barking carnival act” and likening it to a “cancer.”

“Let no one be mistaken - Donald Trump’s candidacy is a cancer on conservatism, and it must be clearly diagnosed, excised and discarded,” the 2016 presidential hopeful said during remarks in Washington D.C. “It cannot be pacified or ignored, for it will destroy a set of principles that has lifted more people out of poverty than any force in the history of the civilized world - the cause of conservatism.”

I was discussing the pool party case awhile back with a conservative and she was absolutely insistent that anything but total, unquestioning cooperation with a cop was the only way to go. Why? Because she believed that anything that could piss off a cop is grounds for arrest. That if a person had respect for the cop and the law, they’ll do what they’re told and not in any way give the cop reason to handcuff them.

I told her that’s not respect, that’s fear.

I see the recent Quinnipiac polls are showing Hillary trailing Bush, Rubio and Walker in some key swing states.

I was looking at some articles on the polling and noticed when I did a Google search almost all of the hits were on major conservative sites. Now I know a poll like that would be heavily touted at conservative media so no surprise.

I would like to know, because I am not all that studied on polling and methodology, is Quinnipiac trusted generally and does it have any leanings right and left?

I usually try to go with an average of many polls so that I can hopefully count the biases as being averaged out. And, I also wait for polling closer to an actual vote. We are a distance off yet and the polls will be up and down a few times.

There’s an analysis of that on DKos. It says that while Q has an okay track record, they sometimes produce wild outliers. It also says that given her lead in national polls, for her to be in that situation in a few swing states would require unbelievable results elsewhere. Further, it would have requires HUGE swings in just a couple of months.

I had a perfect system for many years—well, leading up to the General Election. I’d keep a running mental tally of the average of all the poll results I saw, add 2 points in favor of the Democrat, and I was always right on.

That worked until 2004. I knew it was going to be close, I had it dead even in my head, but the motion had been in Kerry’s direction. I really thought Kerry would win. That’s when I knew that either the polls had become more slanted than the 2% I allowed, or the votes weren’t being counted correctly. Or both.

for what it’s worth, 538 had Quinnipiac as the polling firm with the second strongest Republican bias in 2012. that might have something to do with the results (it’s been a long time since i studied polling, but it typically has to do with the registered/likely voter models and days/times/phone lines used to conduct the polls).

Thanks for the info. I’ll check out Daily Kos

And going with what I was commenting in #7 above…this is where it gets tricky. FOX loves the poll. DKos will most likely be liberal in impression. So, any discussion of the polls with others will be us versus them. Sure would be nice to have a source that most believed is trusted by all. I know…it’s a dream.

I’d suggest reading the article, and judging it on its own merits. DKos has many contributors, and I find that on polling, some are quite good.

I just did the kind of on-the-spot repair that I’ve been turning down so far, because I don’t perform like I used to. The customer helped me rack up the bike, and held it still when I needed him to. Ordinarily I’d be embarrassed about the glasses-swapping and the staring at wrenches that I have to do to see what size they are, but this guy was having me do what he was unable to do on his son’s bike, and he’s been my customer since he was younger than his son is now.

Apparently some idiot by the name of Matt Lewis thinks Rush Limbaugh should deal with Trumpzilla.

As I’ve written on numerous occasions, one of the major problems confronting the conservative movement today is that individual actors have perverse incentives to tarnish the collective brand.

We see this play out when politicians like Trump say controversial things for the sake of buzz and poll numbers, but also true of conservative “personalities” who, after all, also need buzz and ratings and page views. Everyone is looking out for themselves, not conservatism or conservatives in general. It’s basically a “tragedy of the commons”-type situation, where there are no adults looking out for the common good.

But with great power comes great responsibility. And Limbaugh is one of the few leaders in the conservative movement who has the megaphone and the juice to enforce discipline and good behavior, the way Bill Buckley did when he chose to write Ayn Rand, the Birchers, and a whole host of other unpleasant factions, out of the conservative movement.

This may be the Platonic Ideal of unintended irony.

Yeah, and that nice little cozy space that gets locked up with you on the inside. Just the thought of it is starting to get my claustrophobia going.

ETA: the other thing is Carson’s reasoning is that sometimes inmates about to be released will do something to stay in, especially in winter. This is perhaps more a comment on how shitty they expect to find things on the outside than how cushy things are on the inside, especially in winter.

Rick Perry, a totally overrated clown who speaks without knowing facts, is not going to make the country great again. if you were smart, which you are not, you would oppose the monstrous windfarms that will destroy your country. Who cares!
