Chuck Todd Invites Racist Paleocon Caveman Pat Buchanan to “Meet the Press”

WTF
Media • Views: 70,466

Good grief, not Pat Buchanan again. What does it take to get this raving, Nazi-sympathizing, bigoted paleocon caveman off our television screens for good?

He was fired from MSNBC for his crazed bigotry, but here comes Chuck Todd to his rescue: Why Is NBC Bringing Anti-Gay Xenophobe Pat Buchanan Back to Meet the Press?

Chuck is bringing this hateful demagogue onto Meet the Press to discuss “the return of populism.” At the risk of repeating myself, good freaking grief. What the hell is wrong with Chuck Todd?

Media Matters put together a great summary of some of Paleocon Pat’s greatest hits:

Buchanan has repeatedly defended Adolf Hitler and once labeled him “an individual of great courage.” He claimed “in a way, both sides were right” during the Civil War. He declined to disavow the idea that minorities have inferior genes. He defended a school’s ban on interracial dating. He opined that “this has been a country built, basically, by white folks” and falsely claimed only “white males” died at Gettysburg and Normandy. He once claimed “conservatives are the niggers of the Nixon administration” and urged President Nixon not to visit Martin Luther King Jr.’s widow because King was “one of the most divisive men in contemporary history.”

On immigrants, Buchanan claimed America is “committing suicide” while “Asian, African, and Latin American children come to inherit the estate.” He complained that immigration will turn the U.S. into “a polyglot boarding house for the world, a tangle of squabbling minorities.” He objected to states like California having a majority Hispanic population. He said of Mexican immigrants: “They are militant, and they have no interest, many of them, in becoming American.”

Buchanan repeatedly appeared on a white nationalist radio program. He wrote the foreword to a book compiling the works of a white supremacist. He relied on the work of white supremacists for research in his own work. He praised David Duke, former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, as having a “portfolio of winning issues.”

Buchanan said “homosexual sex is unnatural and immoral” and “that kind of conduct should be discouraged in a good society.” He’s written of same-sex relationships: “In a healthy society, it will be contained, segregated, controlled, and stigmatized, carrying both a legal and social sanction.” He once wrote of AIDS: “The poor homosexuals — they have declared war upon nature, and now nature is extracting an awful retribution.”

Paleocon indeed. Conservative memes are nearly immortal. To Buchanan, pre Pearl Harbor isolationism is still a hot topic rather than a decayed relic from the dustbin of discredited ideas. I know Bircher types who will start denouncing FDR and lend-lease at the drop of a hint. To them, the New Deal is really a current issue, the source of all our troubles.

Neither - he doesn’t care about good/bad. He’s in it for the ratings, pure and simple. He thinks he’ll get higher ratings by appealing to the haters in the right wing base. He likes to pretend otherwise, but that’s all it is. There’s no other reason to have this cretin on his show, after he was freaking FIRED from MSNBC.

Speaking of Media Matters—check out David Brock’s letter to the New York Times for their horrible reporting re: Hillary.

I trust you can see that The Times’ reputation is at serious risk. Given the four clear examples cited here, it’s time for The New York Times management to address the situation by commissioning a review that will explore the process of reporting and editing at The New York Times that has allowed flawed, fact-free reporting on so-called scandals involving Hillary Clinton and report back to readers.

Chuck Todd always has a reason for why he is doing what he is doing. I get the feeling he is arrogant to the point of being blind to realistic criticism.

He caught hell back that weekend of the SC church members killing when he did his special segment on remorseful murderers in prison and his examples were all African American. He was almost strident in that no one understood his reasoning for running the segment.

And he gave a similar wonky reason as he is using to explain “Father*” Pat Buchanan getting a seat on the show.

I agree he is doing it for ratings, but he also thinks this is great political coverage from “all” sides.

He probably heard it from Trey Gowdy…or the New York Times.

When in doubt, check Elijah Cummings—he seems to get it right about 100% of the time.

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), the top Democrat on the select House committee investigating the Benghazi attacks, also rejected the notion that the inspectors general of the State Department and intelligence agencies asked for a criminal probe into Clinton’s email account.

“I spoke personally to the State Department inspector general on Thursday, and he said he never asked the Justice Department to launch a criminal investigation of Secretary Clinton’s email usage,” Cummings said in a statement, as quoted by The Hill.

It was their previous reporting on the Clinton emails where they deliberately forgot to mention that it was only after Clinton left office that the law regarding email retention and private servers was changed.

The New York Times Accused Clinton Of Possible Wrong-Doing With Usage Of Non-Government Emails

NYT: Clinton’s Use Of Private Email During Time At The State Department May Have Violated Federal Law. In a March 2 report, The New York Times accused former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of possibly having “violated federal requirements that officials’ correspondence be retained as part of the agency’s record” with the use of personal email for official government business during her time at the department. The Times reported, “Under federal law, however, letters and emails written and received by federal officials, such as the secretary of state, are considered government records and are supposed to be retained so that congressional committees, historians and members of the news media can find them. There are exceptions to the law for certain classified and sensitive materials.” [The New York Times,3/2/15]

But The Law Overseeing Retention Of Private Emails Was Not Changed Until After Clinton Left The State Department

As a matter of fact, I was taught eons ago that, if you’re doing CPR compressions correctly on an adult, you’re gonna end up cracking their ribs. If you aren’t, your compressions are likely ineffective.

Better to have a few cracked ribs, because those heal; dead’s pretty permanent.

So the Times has an established track record now of playing very fast and loose with their reporting on this issue. They’ve graduated from spreading deliberate half truths to basically outright lying.

All of this ignores of course that Clinton made these attacks possible by setting up the private email server, which seems to have been a colossal mistake in retrospect. As Eichenwald points out what is really irritating is that we have to deal with this issue at all and that in simply demanding that the truth be reported people who don’t particularly like Clinton are being cast as partisan defenders.

In our hyper-partisan world, many people will not care about the truth here. That the Times story is false in almost every particular—down to the level of who wrote what memo—will only lead to accusations that people trying to set the record straight are pro-Hillary. I am not pro-Hillary. I am, however, pro-journalism. And this display of incompetence or malice cannot stand without correction.

And to other reporters: Democracy is not a game. It is not a means of getting our names on the front page or setting the world abuzz about our latest scoop. It is about providing information so that an electorate can make decisions based on reality. It is about being fair and being accurate. This despicable Times story was neither.

He did that in 1992 and 1996. He quit the Republicans in 1999, but endorsed Romney in 2012. Too old now, I guess.

He was running in 2000, at least in Florida. Those infamous “butterfly” ballots that had lots of elderly Jews—many of them Holocaust survivors—voting for Neo-Nazi Pat Buchanan, obviously unintentionally? That alone tipped the count by more than the 600 Bush ultimately “won” by when the Supreme Court stopped the process.

His views are as good as mainstream in the modern political discourse. Only difference is that he is not campaigning so he has nonreason not to utter them in an undiluted or indirect manner.

I was proud of the Banana Pudding I made last weekend. It was also from scratch and the first time I’d done so.

But I think I’m more proud of this cheesecake. I have actually never made cheesecake before, from scratch or otherwise, and to be perfectly honest, cheesecake has never been my fav desert, but the pic looked good and the prep work seemed simple enough, so I figured why not!

I’ve been trying to eat healthier, but I’m a foodie at heart, so I needed to find healthier, preferably low fat, low cal versions of my fav foods.

Two days ago, my son asks if I’d like to go to a Japanese Restaurant with him. He’d been there a couple of times and thought I might like it. He warned me that the service was slow.

We arrive, are seated at a table for two and the waiter brings one menu and hands it to my son.

You can probably guess my reaction.

We didn’t eat there. And, yes, the waiter was told why.

Well, until recently NBC was also the home of Donald Trump. The days when NBC was a respectable network are far back in the mists of time, just like the History channel, TLC, AE, Bravo, and on and on and on.

TV today is only interested in finding the lowest common denominator and then trying to lower it.

News used to be a public service, then it had to become profitable.

Conservatives love this deeply misleading factoid about poverty in America

Treating birth timing as a norm is also strange, as it implies that people have more control over when to have children than they often do. Access to birth control and abortion — and the cost of each — varies greatly by income, with poor women losing out. This is why Sawhill is a huge advocate of government programs to expand the use of IUDs and other highly effective, long-lasting forms of birth control.

As Georgetown economist Harry Holzer told me the last time I debunked this stat, “When people make a statement like that, they act like people have perfect control over things like that.” He explains, “In a recession, to say that people have perfect control over employment is absurd. There are so many reasons someone might lose a job beyond their control. I would argue the same thing for high school graduation.” And I, for that matter, would argue the same for marriage and childbirth.

Scientists Make the First New Lager Yeasts in Centuries:

Lager lovers can now officially raise a toast because Gibson and his colleagues recently logged the success of re-creating the ancient fling between S. cerevisiae and S. eubayanus. “You can now produce lager yeasts that are very different from one another,” Gibson says. All the resulting hybrids outperformed their parents, producing alcohol faster and at higher concentrations and turning out tastier products, as documented in a paper published in the Journal of Industrial Microbiology & Biotechnology. In particular, they made 4-vinylguaiacol, which resulted in flavors more characteristic of Belgian wheat beers. “The beers have a clovey aroma,” Gibson says. “It’s actually quite nice but maybe something we don’t always want. The idea is to have a whole range of strains, and you just pick and choose.” The hunt has now turned to finding new yeast unions that gobble up sugar more effectively, potentially creating lower-calorie beers.

More people are killed by high-speed chases than by floods, tornadoes, lightning, and hurricanes combined

Innocent bystanders account for a striking 27 percent of those deaths. And 91 percent of chases are initiated in response to non-violent crimes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s database only counts deaths directly caused by vehicles, so if a cop ends up chasing and killing a suspect on foot, that number isn’t included here.
