Anti-Choice Groups Work With ALEC to Require “Fetal Death Certificates” for Miscarriages, Prevent Tissue Donations

Religious fanatics and Republicans, working to take America back to the Dark Ages
Politics • Views: 64,593

In the wake of the deceptive videos pushed out by the Orwellian “Center for Medical Progress,” another fanatical anti-choice group called “Americans United for Life” is now working with ALEC to get legislation passed that would require “fetal death certificates” — for miscarriages. Yes, really.

And their proposed legislation would also ban the donation of tissue for medical research, by mandating that it be cremated. If this insane legislation ever passes, we’re headed full speed back to the Dark Ages, folks.

McConchie, of the AUL, told the Guardian the group had drafted a model “Dignified Final Disposition Act” and was tweaking it in response to the clandestine videos. “We’re working with legislators. There’s a lot of interest.”

The proposed law would mandate that fetal remains be cremated or buried. If cremated, they would have to be cremated separately from medical waste and a county medical examiner would have to authorise the cremation.

The act would also require fetal death certificates for “each fetal death after delivery, miscarriage or abortion”. A stillborn child would need a state-issued “certificate of birth resulting in stillbirth”.

The fact that the GOP is working so hard to stigmatize even stillbirths and miscarriages reveals how shockingly little they know about the statistics of those occurrences. Or about pregnancy in general, really.

Just to make it really, really explicit:

This doesn’t just stigmatize miscarriage, it opens the door to all pre-partum deaths being treated (even more) like crime scenes.

How are they going to handle the birth certificates?

They know about ‘em, but they don’t care. This stuff isn’t about saving babies — it’s about criminalizing women.

According to The NIH, only 30% of conceptions result in a live birth. They are going to need a bigger government to enforce/monitor this type of plan.

By their logic, dignified disposal precludes people from being organ donors if they die.

That loathsome piece of shit, state Senator Mark Obenshain, introduced a bill a couple years ago here in Virginia that would impose that requirement on miscarriages and the goddamn media let him run as a “moderate” for Attorney General in 2013.

Thankfully I have a feeling that the supreme court won’t let this stand if they manage to actually make it become law.

Hopefully Justices Ginsburg (gawd bless her) and Kennedy (meh) will retire this or next year, or this nation will be in a @#&%load of trouble if a Repugnican becomes president.

“…In response to a question from the Guardian, Daleiden said the current uproar - including proposed laws requiring death certificates for fetuses - could create “bottlenecks” for clinics and pressure them to close.

He said abortion clinics had an achilles heel - fetal tissue disposal - which legislators could exploit. “From a legislative perspective I think the most impactful [measure] could be disposal. Laws requiring that human fetuses receive death certificates - that creates a huge bottleneck for them. That makes it difficult for the clinics to work.”

Which is a good reason to vote for a Democratic president and a Democratic congress. If we have a Republican president who insists on some kind of “pro life” litmus test for judges, at least if we have a heavily Democrat dominated congress, they could veto all his nominees in the worst case scenario.

Again, it’s not about “dignity” or “safety,” it’s an end-run around RvW with an eye towards banning abortion entirely. And once they’ve banned abortion, then birth control will be next. They will follow the same path as they have with abortion, slowly strangling access until they just outright outlaw it, every step of the way insisting it’s for the “health and safety of women.”

20
The Ghost of a Flea  Jul 25, 2015 • 7:40:46pm

Another unpleasant possibility: does the death certificate name the parents?

I mean, how and where is this new paperwork going to process and/or file information? Who will have access?

Dark_Falcon  Jul 25, 2015 • 7:41:22pm

I try not to get involved in matters relating to abortion these days, but I oppose this idea on the grounds of practicality: Imposing this sort of record-keeping requirement would require additional staff for doctors and hospitals but also for local governments.

That’s right Wesley Wingnut: If “Dignified Final Disposition” passes, it will increase the size and cost of government. Don’t think it won’t, because people are not going to wait a month to get this kind of document generated, especially not when not getting it could trigger a criminal investigation; Local governments will have to hire more staff and local taxpayers will have to pay for them.. And an increase in investigations will require more police officers, just as the record keeping will require more government bureaucrats.

So if you want to shrink the government, this is not the kind of law to pass.

My mother was born in the early 20s, and her parents in the 1890s. They believed in safe, legal abortion. It may have been because they knew someone who died of an illegal abortion when my mother was a little girl. In fact, I believe it was a close relative. They were NOT flaming liberals, believe you me! Just humans who had seen the toll taken.

As I’ve noted time and again to wingnuts who’ve held him up as some sort of symbol of abortions, you’re going to see more Kermit Gosnells when abortion is banned, because the demand will not go away and there are going to be unscrupulous doctors willing to meet that demand in a fashion that will leave more women dead than there are now. Abortion has been around, in practice, for centuries. A ban, whether it be local, state, or federal, is not going to magically snuff it out.

Yeah…so the “small government” thing is kind of complete and utter bullshit and has been since I was a gamete.

Social conservatives want a giant panopticist government so that nobody’s fucking or praying the wrong way.
Fiscal conservatives want a government that’s big enough to subsidize the fuck out their business cronies.
Both love small big government—law enforcement and a penal system that kicks the everliving shit out of people that dwell outside of their preferred norms regarding fucking, praying, and working for nothing.

Basically, there are giant silicon tits mounted on a Fiji mermaid riding a jackalope that are more real than US conservative principles about small government.

Trump: The Dark Heart of the Republican Party

Even the other candidates’ appeals to taste and professionalism fall flat. You can’t argue Donald Trump shouldn’t be making policy just because he’s rich when you’ve pushed for and won the complete gutting of the campaign finance system so rich people can write “FOR ZERO DERIVATIVES REGULATION” in the memo of a massive check. This is the system working. How is Trump any less qualified to determine policy than Sheldon Adelson, who may have mob ties in China, who likes to quash marijuana referenda to keep people away from vices that aren’t gambling, and who dictates our position on Israel? How is Trump less qualified to talk about abortion than ten-gallon shithead Foster Friess? Why is his money dirtier than the Kochs, whose exploding pipelines kill people? Hell, if anything, his candidacy cuts out the middleman. My god, think of the savings.

And now I’ll put in “via Anne Laurie @ Balloon Juice” after I hit “Post It” Instead of “Close” on Preview….

Can’t beat WordStar for keyboard shortcuts. I probably had ~5% of them memorized, which even at that was enormous overkill for anything I ever wanted to do. Today’s word processors are just ridiculous.

My version of WordStar 5.5 still worked fine on my old ‘286 machine running DOS 3.3 last time I checked—well, that’s been a few years, probably.

A belated good evening to the Lizards.

Day trip into Manhattan went well. Trains were on time and it was a pleasant way to get into and then back out of the city.

Walked from Penn Station to Times Square to meet friends from overseas who were in NYC for the weekend. Had lunch and an extended visit to talk about this and that. So there wasn’t time for any additional extra tourist stuff. But this did serve as an effective scouting trip in terms of time and approximate transportation costs.

Crowds were not too bad - sort of like Old Town Philadelphia on a weekend, but on steroids. Time Square was a bit weird on top of that. Sidewalks more congested than I like due to scaffolding, vendors/tour guide folk, and the annoying stop/go behavior of tourists who seem to have a 6th sense for picking choke points as the place to stop and discuss where they are heading. Nothing I haven’t seen before in terms of pedestrians and automobile drivers being oblivious, ignorant, or inconsiderate.

Proposed legislation does not go far enough. Women who get abortions should have to wear a large letter A on their foreheads, while those who miscarry receive a somewhat smaller letter M to warn others that their fertility is sub-optimal and thay should be shunned in favour of more fecund specimens.

Personally, I always laugh my ass off when a wingnut who will scream that banning guns won’t work because people will still buy and sell guns illegally, insist that a ban on abortions will be effective at ending the practice.

It makes perfect sense to them because they see unlimited access to gunz as a God-given right, while abortion is an abdomination unto the Lord. Just like when you argue about religion-based legislation. To them it applies only to America’s only true religion, Christianity.

The people doing the protesting in Detroit aren’t all who you may think they are:

“This unveiling will not happen in the City of Detroit on my watch,” Bishop Corletta Vaughn of the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Detroit told the Free Press at Saturday’s protest. “I’m here to stand against this being in the City of Detroit. We will not turn over our city to Satanists. It’s a violent spirit that’s moving to the city and infiltrating that place. We will drive them out of Dodge.”

Very much an evangelical’s words, but in this case the Baptist evangelical in question is African-American and a woman as well. This is Bishop Vaughn’s biography from the female-oriented Oxygen channel, where she has had a leading role in a show called Preachers of Detroit .

The other religious leader quoted, Pastor David Bullock is also African-American and he appears on the same show as Bishop Vaughn.

This dust-up is taking place in Detroit, remember, where much (and likely most) of the Evangelical population is of African ancestry. Thus much of the protesting has been done by African-Americans whose religious sensibilities have been offended and who see Christian morality as the best force for the renewal and redemption of the Motor City. Vaughn and Bullock almost certainly see the Satanist chapter leader Jex Blackmore (a most unfortunate name in this instance) as a white person who is out to disrupt what they have built and corrupt the youth of their city.

True, but the same preachers who rally Detroit-area black people against police brutality are the ones protesting the Satanists. In part because they sincerely believe that the Satanists’ anti-authority message is disastrous for young people, who need moral authority to keep them out of the kind of trouble that increases the risk of them encountering hostile police.

And lastly, this scrimmage relevant as it is an inter-Democratic scrimmage. There is a left-right dynamic and a racial dynamic being played out, to be sure, but they are playing out inside the group of constituencies of The Democracy.* I’d like your thoughts on that.

*: “The Democracy” is an old nickname for the Democratic Party. I like to use it sometimes as a counterpoint to the Republican Party’s nickname of the Grand Old Party (GOP).

WTF has one got to do with another? Support of one particular “liberal” or “conservative” issue does not imply support of an entire list of other ones.

That would be like arguing that Dylan Roof was a “liberal” because he burned a US flag, that being a Muslim means that you must take part in armed Jihad, or that supporting the Occupy movement meant that you are a bomb-throwing anti-capitalist anarchist. Politics, like religion, is very much a pick-and-choose thing.

A Mom Anon  Jul 26, 2015 • 5:53:04am

I am close to someone who carried a pregnancy to term about 10 yrs ago, only to have the baby die during labor. As you can imagine this was a completely devastating event in her life. So in addition to all of that grief, she would have also had to endure a criminal investigation as well? Oh Hell No. She herself could have died, but no, let’s not talk about that.

This same person also lives in a very underserved area medically. The only women’s clinic, a Planned Parenthood office, was closed down years ago by so called “Christians” who did literally nothing to help the people they said they loved so much that they had to save them from the horror of PP. And because of that, this woman had very little pre-natal care because it’s nearly a 90 minute drive to the nearest OB/GYN or a damned hospital that’s equipped to perform anything beyond the most basic of care. There are also no pediatricians serving that community either. The nearest pediatrician is about an hour away.

This is about overturning Roe V. Wade without actually having to overturn it. Make it so insane that clinics have to close and communities end up like the one I just described. Underserved and left with minimal at best medical care. And I can ASSURE you, that rich people will still have access to abortion, they did before Roe, and that will continue as it always has. The people crafting these laws would avail themselves of these services as soon as a situation arose that effected them directly. Love the Fetus, Hate the Child (and their Mother) should be their fucking motto. If they cared about children they’d make god damned sure that no child in this country went to bed hungry or abused. That they never mention those things speaks volumes about who they are. How they gained so much power is something that has to be confronted and dealt with. Now.

The fact that the GOP is working so hard to stigmatize even stillbirths and miscarriages reveals how shockingly little they know about the statistics of those occurrences. Or about pregnancy in general, really.

Maybe it will take an effort to shock: We could start talking about the abortions God performs such that most human pregnancies do not end in live births - regardless of human-induced abortions.

Either the creator has a flawed process or he just likes to abort human lives?

Every layer of the anti-choice movement, like every kind of racism, has a mix of differing motives in varying proportions. Those who are driven by those motives are rarely aware of them.

Just one fundamental drive of the anti-abortion/anti-contraception effort is to overproduce mouths to be fed, forcing parents to accept increasingly shitty work at increasingly lower pay. Team LaSalle for the win!!

I see that as an unwanted side effect: the main impetus is the moral constraint: fear of unwanted pregnancy (and unwanted birth) should help people (chiefly young women) keep their legs together until they have found a husband who can afford to keep them at home, barefoot and pregnant.

And it is fear of women: they know how susceptible men are to their sexual wiles and want to limit their ability to use them on the mentally and emotionally weaker sex.

I think they have a great chance of retaining it too. The problem the GOP has that its growth has been in places with demographics that are shrinking. The Dems OTOH have had growth with growing demographics. The Latino vote in particular has been vital to Obama’s success in states like Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico. I’ll throw in Florida in there too and my own state of Virginia which a lot of people really don’t consider the rising Hispanic vote. There’s a reason why so many in the GOP are opposed to immigration reform and the DREAM Act in particular because they know when those Hispanic immigrants get naturalized, they’re not going to vote GOP mostly. Of course the GOP has only itself to blame for that. Same thing with Asians. The GOP is rapidly becoming the party of white people. Sure they have some high profile elected minorities but the rank and file is as white bread as ever.

So now we see that these whackjobs are working with ALEC, whose sole purpose is to get rid of government regulation by adding new government regulation.

Riiiiiiight.

Sounds like it’s time to engage in sousveillance against ALEC when their local/state boards come up. Better still, since their drafting legislation, yank their tax-exempt status.

Someone Republican rep in the MN house tried to sneak in some ALEC legislation that was almost a 100% cut-n-paste job, and a DFL-er called them out on it.

There’s a reason why so many in the GOP are opposed to immigration reform and the DREAM Act in particular because they know when those Hispanic immigrants get naturalized, they’re not going to vote GOP mostly. Of course the GOP has only itself to blame for that.

Funny, they are Catholic, into strong families and the value of hard work. But they also favor strong communities, public institutions and quality education, and they know that the privatized Free Market is not the answer to that.

Yeah I watched his episodes on Dublin, Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon in preparation for my last trip. He’s definitely my favorite travel show host. He writes really good guides too. My finding a discount old Spain guide at a Booksamillion is actually along with reading The Sun Also Rises is what inspired me to go to Spain in the first place. Going to be different this time since I’ll have my sixteen year old kid brother with me. Planning on also going to Belgium, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.

Good morning all.
It may or may not bite them in the end. There are women who are strongly against their own reproductive rights because they are afraid “those people over there” are immoral and need the controls on their behavior.

Also, the idea of a fetal death certificate is totally unworkable because a lot of women have early miscarriages without ever realizing they were pregnant. That means the menstrual fluid analysis labs will have a lot of work to do. Yay, small government!

On the main topic—this shit has been going on for a long time. From a 2011 piece I wrote:

February, 2011
State Rep. Bobby Franklin of Georgia introduced a bill that would require proof that a miscarriage occurred naturally. If a woman can’t prove that her miscarriage-or spontaneous abortion-occurred without intervention, she could face felony charges.

Some of the more ridiculous/insane wording in the bill include:

“Justice Blackmun, writing for the majority in Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973),wrote: ‘when those trained in the respective disciplines of medicine, philosophy, and theology are unable to arrive at any consensus, the judiciary, at this point in the development of man’s knowledge, is not in a position to speculate as to the answer [to the question of when life begins].

“The General Assembly knows the answer to that difficult question, and that answer is life begins at the moment of conception.”
legis.ga.gov

Yes, folks—you read that right—the Georgia General Assembly knows better than those trained in the respective disciplines of medicine, philosophy, and theology. So who are we, mere peons, to question their authority?

care2.com explains it in all of its misogynist glory “Franklin wants to create a Uterus Police to investigate miscarriages, and requires that any time a miscarriage occurs, whether in a hospital or without medical assistance, it must be reported and a fetal death certificate issued. If the cause of death is unknown, it must be investigated. If the woman can’t tell how it happened, than those Uterus Police can ask family members and friends how it happened. Hospitals are required to keep records of anyone who has a spontaneous abortion and report it. Yup, we’ve been waiting for someone to suggest this-and Franklin has. Needless to say, there are no exceptions allowed. Not for rape victims. Not for incest victims. Not to save the life and health of the mother (the fetus must get equal care).”

The Lyrans (other felinoid humanoids) were allied with the Klingons and Romulans. I think in the novels, we see the Kzinti as powerful rivals, but not as primary enemies.

Huckabee is just trying to get onto the debate stage by saying something outrageous about Obama. Unfortunately, within your party, saying something outrageous about Obama has become as common as ending a political speech with “and may God bless the United States of America!” - it’s just meaningless white noise.

If Huckabee wants to get on stage, he needs to do what Trump has been doing, and attack another Republican..like Ted Cruz since they share the same base of voters. But he needs to do it soon because there are only two weeks until the debate and we still don’t know which five polls Fox is going to use to decide who gets to play.

To be clear, bobby Jindal has worked to expand who may lawfully carry firearms in Louisiana, but he also got legislation passed to ensure that those who are committed to a mental health institution involuntarily are report to the FBI’s NICS section as persons prohibited from buying a firearm.

Of course he’s not going to supply any funding to make sure any of that happens. Like darthstar says, it’s a false face all for show.

It’s the oldest trick in the GOP book.

Excuse me fellow Lizards, I know I seldom contribute, but I have couple of questions I would appreciate your thoughts on.

I’m hearing Trump threaten a 3rd party run if he’s not “treated fairly” by the party. Firm in the knowledge that would assure a sound drubbing for the GOP, this would give him a lot of leverage.

What might he ask for?

If it becomes clear to him he can’t get the nomination, would he be capable of putting his ego aside to take a #2 spot on the ticket?

I don’t know, but I get the creepy feeling this giant a-hole has cards he ain’t showing.

Am I delusional?

Thanks!

I had a frustrating discussion with a friend who’s very thoughtful and reasonable, except about guns. He said that there should be laws prohibiting gun ownership by felons and crazy people, but didn’t believe in background checks. He was certain that would work.

And make no mistake. These things should be dealt with PRIVATELY.

Based on the comments under this video, it looks like the Kzinti were almost regular Star Trek villains.

[Embedded content]

Video

They were one of the playable races in an old table top game I played decades ago; Star Fleet Battles. From the looks of the video I’d say the makers of it took a lot of inspiration from the game. The Kzinti in the game heavily favoured missiles as weapons.

The video made me think of one of my favourite stories; The Bully and The Crazy Boy. In it humanity had made it to space but not the stars, and an intelligent species similar to cats came to us. The Kalixi had more planets, more resources, were more vicious than us and more intelligent than us.

We won because humans are fucking insane.

There’s a lot of bullshit and wishful thinking in the audiophile arena.

HOWEVER, I can tell you from my own experience, it’s not COMPLETELY bullshit. Before I got married, I spent some time and money (both of which I had then) and put together a nice system. I was still putting the finishing touches on it when we married.

About a year after we moved in together, I swapped out my old heavy-gauge, standard Monster speaker cables for a higher, more expensive grade. My wife came home after I had done the swap. As she got to the top of the steps (we lived in a top floor flat in SF), she paused and said, “What did you do to the stereo? It sounds better!”

I use 0.75mm2 mains cable for speakers of less power than 150W, no distinquishable difference from monster cable which costs more than an order of magnitude more.
For more beefier setups, I’d simply scale the area of the cable up.

Hm.

The Trump campaign is already monetized, in the sense that Trump’s income flow operates via the same methodology as Paris Hilton. Attention translates into appearances and eyes on his shows, so therefore cash. This time, his “campaign” is being filmed for a reality TV thing, as opposed to last time, when his “campaign” was an attempt to bolster that stupid show he does. “The Apprentice.”

(…all of which is in keeping with his business model from the get-go. His business acumen is a facade—he’s a good old-fashioned conman bilking his investors—but the money he makes by selling that image is real….)

Rather like with his other ventures, I’m curious about the secondary incomes streams generated from selling his image. Books, appearances fees, speaking fees, et cetera. And atop that, there’s the question of whether his “campaign” is taking in money, and how it’s circulating.

Whether or not there’s an extortionate component in his current presidential run…I think it’s posturing when he pokes the other candidates.

I realize I’ve been using the word “mountebank” a lot to describe the current state of politics, but I think it’s especially appropriate with regard to Trump. His MO both as a businessman and a pundit is to bluff about his competency, then fleece anyone that believes him. I have a hard time seeing the political phase of his bluster as differentiable from past iterations: a con-job.

On the other hand, though…bullshit long enough and you begin to imagine you’re a bull.

When I was very little, Trump parking his hideous garish yacht, the “Trump Princess” —and yes, it was decorated in gold—in Hong Kong harbor, apparently as part of a plan to keep assets out of his divorce negotiations. Every day, his uniformed staff would de-board as a bloc and eat their meals at McDonald’s.

They made it very inconvenient for me to get my Happy Meal. Which at the time was especially important, since McDonald’s in Hong Kong was a kind of ritualized way of recovering after weeks of burning hot South Indian food that I could barely taste, let alone appreciate.

So basically…I never liked that guy.

re: #260 JadeHelmCurious

Gauge and impedance matters more than anything else. And fairy dust crystals. And these.

Gauge (AWG) and cross-sectional area are proportional, but impedance is not that big of an issue at those low frequencies unless you have really long runs. Things to avoid are solid core conductors (skin effect) and cable designs which are pronouncedly reactive (i.e. excessively capacitive or inductive).

Like the Jazz cable is basically a twisted pair, which is capacitive at a rate proportional to the length, which at some point will lead to an uneven frequency and phase response.

My rule of thumb is at least 0.005 mm2/W for multi-stranded cable, at least 0.01 mm2/W if you’re stuck with solid core cable.

Make sure connectors are done by the book, I personally do well-crimped and soldered (with 60/40 Pb solder, not RoHS stuff unless you really know your shit) quality connectors, avoid long runs, and treat the cables with the same care you would treat mains cables.

Also, consider making your own cables for a specific application/location and performing semi-regular checkups of connectors and cabling. If you need to do long runs, clamp-on ferrites on the amplifier end of the cable can help alleviate oscillation tendencies and interference pickup in the amp.

I suspect it shows I’m formally educated in electronics?

Just posted over at Balloon Juice. Story via WaPo

A woman in Charleston, w.va, may have saved her own life and the lives of many other women, as well, when she shot and killed an alleged attacker in her home last week.

Neal Falls showed up at the woman’s home on July 18 after answering an escort ad she had placed on Backpage . com, according to police. He showed up with a “kill list,” multiple pairs of handcuffs and a Subaru full of weapons and tools, including a shovel, knives, a bulletproof vest, a machete, bleach, trash bags, sledgehammers and axes, according to Fox affiliate KPTV.

In Falls’s pocket, police said, was a list of names of potential future victims, all of whom are sex workers who advertised on Backpage, according to the Daily Dot.

Now investigators are trying to determine whether Falls, 45, was responsible for a string of slayings targeting sex workers in Ohio and Nevada, the station reported.

From the moment Falls showed up at the home of his latest alleged victim, a sex worker, he turned violent, the victim — who asked not to be identified — told KPTV.

“I knew he was there to kill me,” she said. “I could tell that he had already done something because he said that he was going to prison for a long time. And that’s when I knew he was gonna kill me.”

The woman told the station that Falls, who was from Springfield, Ore., pulled a gun on her and began strangling her. She said she had a split second in which to take control of the situation.

“When he strangled me he just wouldn’t let me get any air,” she said. ” I grabbed my rake and when he laid the gun down to get the rake out of my hands, I shot him. I just grabbed the gun and shot behind me.”

Edit: I didn’t create the links within the story and they don’t exist as links at the original story either. Weird. I have no idea where they came from. I added some spaces to get rid of the link to Backpage

If it turns out the deceased really was the (purported) Chillicothe serial killer, yeah, personally, I’d say she’s a hero.

Trump will be the GOP nominee. That’s how far gone from reality Republicans have become.

I don’t think he will but I definitely think he’s going to be a legitimate contender. He’ll definitely have some delegates to disrupt the convention with.

And I count him running independently as being the GOP nominee anyways.

I think that is his plan. Adelson lavished money on Gingrich’s campaign just to keep Santorum from doing the same last time

It presents a dilemma for the gun humpers. She saved herself from a home intruder by shooting him, but the actual owner of the weapon was shot and killed with his own gun.

So all it takes is a rake?

(In passing, who keeps a rake in their bedroom?)

Won’t it be a riot when they get to the convention and there’s no clear winner and everyone is so radicalized for their candidate that they refuse to compromise.

What gets me is this quote from the WaPo article:

Neal Falls showed up at the woman’s home on July 18 after answering an escort ad she had placed on Backpage, according to police.

That’s a kill kit - I’d bet he’d done it before.

Edited to remove Backpage autolink. Oops.

A good woman with a rake.

I got the feeling from reading the story that he started to attack her as soon as he entered the house. She shot him in her kitchen. Maybe there was a back porch.

We’d better invent an FTL drive lickety-split - we’ll need it to conquer other galaxies and obtain their popcorn, because there simply won’t be enough on our humble planet.

It’s a good thing I don’t eat much popcorn but damn it is just going to be crazily entertaining. This is everything the establishment wanted to avoid after 2012 and it’s going to be worse.

Just posted over at Balloon Juice. Story via WaPo

Edit: I didn’t create the links within the story and they don’t exist as links at the original story either. Weird. I have no idea where they came from. I added some spaces to get rid of the link to Backpage

Thanks for that story. That has been a big story in Ohio. I think there was some speculation he may have even been in Columbus. Gonna have to dig for more (unless there are some links coming up in this thread).

Why is it that it’s MEN telling women what they cannot have access to?

This should be the response back to those men.

Could be wrong here, since I’m going on 40-year-old high school memories, but some of my black classmates called their long-tooth metal hair combs ‘rakes.’ I knew a girl who’d defended herself in a fight with one — drew significant blood from the attacker.

I was thinking that—the afro rake. It makes sense, if the woman had the right kind of hair.
