Rick Perry Thinks “It Makes a Lot of Sense” for Theater-Goers to Be Armed

Moar gunz everywhere
Politics • Views: 64,281

What a great idea former Gov. Rick Perry has! He points out that if everyone in a movie theater were armed to the teeth and ready to blaze away in the dark as soon as a “mentally impacted” person starts shooting, everyone would be so much safer!

Just imagine how safe and secure you’d feel in that theater, with an unknown number of people sitting around you carrying loaded guns.

HOUSTON (CBS Houston/AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry believes people should be allowed to bring guns into movie theaters.

Speaking to CNN on Sunday, the former Texas governor says people who have been appropriately trained should be allowed to carry firearms.

“I will suggest to you that these concepts of gun-free zones are a bad idea,” Perry told CNN. “I think that you allow the citizens of this country, who have appropriately trained, appropriately backgrounded, know how to handle and use firearms, to carry them. I believe that, with all my heart, that if you have the citizens who are well trained, and particularly in these places that are considered to be gun-free zones, that we can stop that type of activity, or stop it before there’s as many people that are impacted as what we saw in Lafayette.”

The Republican vision for America.

Of course, most theaters have their own policies banning firearms, because theater owners aren’t nuts. Is Perry proposing to legally compel private companies that own movie theaters to allow patrons to carry weapons?

I stopped reading after “thinks” because when I see it with Rick Perry something doesn’t compute.

No Country For Old Haters  Jul 27, 2015 • 1:39:01pm

If that sounds good to Rick, he’ll love my plan to put bombs with gunshot detectors in every theater. Someone fires a gun (or sets off firecrackers), everyone dies. Mass casualties are even more certain than with his current plan.

Uh huh. Just try to find me one single tactical defense trainer that would agree. Defense 101-The gun is worse than useless in a crowd or in the dark. Both LOLOLOL. Fantasy gamer concepts. Not at all realistic.

Well, at least he’s consistent. He wasn’t in favor of regulations at the fertilizer plant over in West either. Maybe we can dub him “Collateral Damage” Perry.

Of course logic dictates that ones safety increases exponentially for every shooter you have in a dark place shooting at muzzle flashes.

An estimated 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older or about one in four adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. When applied to the 2004 U.S. Census residential population estimate for ages 18 and older, this figure translates to 57.7 million people.

by all means, let’s arm everybody - w none of these big government “background” checks

If the local cinema is so dangerous you think you might need a gun there, you should consider not going.
Seriously, what kind of person thinks any and every public gathering is dangerous enough to rate carrying a gun? Unfortunately, millions of people think exactly that. I suspect they don’t really believe it: Their paranoia is a rationalization for the psycho-sexual power thrill and reinforcement they gain from packing heat. I really think all gun humper justifications are like that; just rationales.

You know what? If these fucking people are that damned scared to leave the house then how about they take their pile of guns, surround themselves with them and STAY THE FUCK HOME. This way they’re safe from all the things that scare them and we’re safe from their stupidity. It’s a win/win for everyone. The people who feel the need to strut around with their damned firearms are the precise people who shouldn’t have them. I’m so sick of this shit. I live on the edge of the suburbs, some of the houses still have lots that are an acre or more in size. I hear more damned gunshots here than I ever did when I lived in Section 8 housing and in poor parts of cities. I’m sick of it. I’d like to sit outside or throw the ball with my dog without hearing gunshots because people are allowed to target practice in their yards here. Go to a gun range FFS. That’s what they’re for.

In contrast to CoS, ToS don’t seem to be objectivists in black garb.

One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason.
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo your own.
Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.
People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and resolve any harm that may have been caused.
Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word

Very true. The real deal in terms of people that really should carry and do, don’t brag. Don’t do public displays of bravado or ego. Quietly exit when anything goes awry like an argument or angry crowd becomes the circumstance. They understand what a liability it is to carry. That one might endure a mild to moderate assault without pulling. Because lives change if that thing comes out right or wrong.

Let the free market decide. If you feel safer in a dark, crowded theater knowing that the person next to you is armed and ready to use it to protect your health and safety, then go to a weapons-friendly cinema and ask to be seated next to a Good Guy with a Gun.

And just to be sure, ask to check his Internet presence so ensure he supports the right causes…

Indiana man shot after defending Confederate flag with a machete isn’t a racist, friend insists

According to witnesses, the victim drove his white SUV into the parking lot of a convenience store in a largely black neighborhood….
A group of black men at the convenience store started shouting what Baker called “white racial slurs” at the victim and “provoking him about the flag,” which compelled him to pull a machete from the back of his vehicle.

Okay, I already got the RW spin on this: he was assaulted for exercising his right to free speech…what is Obama’s America coming to, will they try to ban the CSA flag entirely?

goddamnedfrank  Jul 27, 2015 • 3:50:22pm

NYT’s public editor Margaret Sullivan writes up the aftermath of their abysmal reporting on the Clinton email referral.

The story developed quickly on Thursday afternoon and evening, after tips from various sources, including on Capitol Hill. The reporters had what Mr. Purdy described as “multiple, reliable, highly placed sources,” including some “in law enforcement.” I think we can safely read that as the Justice Department.

The sources said not only was there indeed a referral but also that it was directed at Mrs. Clinton herself, and that it was a criminal referral. And that’s how The Times wrote it initially.

“We got it wrong because our very good sources had it wrong,” Mr. Purdy told me. “That’s an explanation, not an excuse. We have an obligation to get facts right and we work very hard to do that.”

By Friday afternoon, the Justice Department issued a terse statement, saying that there had been a referral related to the potential compromise of classified information, stating clearly that it was not a criminal referral. Mr. Purdy says he remains puzzled about why the initial inaccurate information was confirmed so clearly. (Update: Other news outlets also got confirmation of the criminal referral as they followed The Times’s story. They did not report, as an earlier version of this post suggested, that she herself was the target of the referral.)

There are at least two major journalistic problems here, in my view. Competitive pressure and the desire for a scoop led to too much speed and not enough caution. Mr. Purdy told me that the reporters, whom he described as excellent and experienced, were “sent back again and again” to seek confirmation of the key elements; but while no one would discuss the specifics of who the sources were, my sense is that final confirmation came from the same person more than once.

There is, of course, an easy fix for this kind of bullshit journalism. Reporters can just make it clear to their anonymous sources that if their story turns out to be total and complete bullshit that the promised anonymity goes bye bye. “You straight up fucking lie to me and I will burn your ass to a cinder” needs to be the way things are done from here on out. I’m not talking about normal ambiguity or making an innocent mistake, but if you use your position of authority to convince a reporter that a specific individual is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation, and that turns out to be absolutely not true, then you have no reasonable expectation of privacy.

It’s simply insane for us as a society nominally interested in a free press whose job it is to inform the public to expect reporters to shield assholes who flat out lie to them. If you’re going to use the press to inflict damage on another person you should at least have the minimal goddamned amount of skin in the game to ensure that you aren’t just rat-fucking the system.

Indiana’s “Stand Your Ground” law provides, in part,

that “[a] person is justified in using reasonable force against any other person to protect the person or a third person from what the person reasonably believes to be the imminent use of unlawful force.” However, a person “is justified in using deadly force”, and does not have “a duty to retreat”, if the person “reasonably believes” that deadly force is “necessary to prevent serious bodily injury to the person or a third person or the commission of a forcible felony.” This law makes it clear that “[n]o person in this state shall be placed in legal jeopardy of any kind whatsoever for protecting the person or a third person by reasonable means necessary.”

Oh yeah, here’s the really bullshit part:

None of this should be used to deny the importance of The Times’s reporting on the subject of Mrs. Clinton’s email practices at the State Department, a story Mr. Schmidt broke in March.

The March story by Schmidt that she’s referencing is the one where he said Hillary may have violated federal law, but dishonestly omitted that the law and rules Schmidt mentions did not go into effect until after she left the State Department. Also, the Times still hasn’t issued a correction on that story, and Sullivan conspicuously fails to mention the glaring and widely criticized flaw in that reporting.

Margaret Sullivan is deliberately dancing around the real issue, that the editors at the times either have some kind of vendetta against Hillary or, more likely, are cynically publishing total bullshit about her to generate page-views and assuage conservative criticism of the paper.

“… but the truth is, it’s late in the fight.”

469 days until election day is “late in the fight”?

Uh, wut? Cruzbots think that David-Duke-in-a-skirt’s endorsement helps?

Of course—I don’t know how Atlas Juggs was left off of this montage:

But they’d follow any of these Rethug Fembots off a cliff.

Going to play Devil’s Advocate here and give my view on being armed in places such as theaters. Full disclosure, I myself have a CC permit (Illinois) and I try to carry where ever I legally can, which on a few occasions has included a movie theater.

Several people have commented about poor visibility in a theater and I don’t dispute that lighting won’t be the best by any means, but it’ll be more than adequate for an unopposed shooter to end/ruin several lives in a shockingly short amount of time. Firing on someone inside a darkened, confined area with an unknown number of bystanders throughout isn’t something I’d want to do, but it would very likely beat doing nothing and letting him operate unchecked.

For anyone who wants to know how “trained” I am with my carry gun: as far as how to operate it (drawing, aiming, trigger control, reloading, etc) and practicing with it, enough to where I’d rather try stopping a shooter with it than without it.

I know many people here find the concept of concealed carry unnerving. FWIW I watched the following videos a couple of times each while applying for my CC license. The guy who made them doesn’t advocate any macho bullshit in regards to carrying.

Going to play Feed The Troll here and say that “Devil’s Advocate” (no need to capitalize the term, unless you’re talking about the dreadful Al Pacino flick) doesn’t mean what you think it means.

Sorry, didn’t realize the term essentially meant borderline trolling. I’ll go watch the Al Pacino flick now…damn, it does kinda suck.
