White House Confirms: Will Veto Any Budget Bill That Defunds Planned Parenthood

Nope
Politics • Views: 62,466

Republicans are making noises that they’re going to shut down the government again, this time over defunding Planned Parenthood (something they’ve been trying to do for many years). But today White House press secretary Josh Earnest made it very clear that the President will veto any budget bill containing a rider that defunds the women’s health organization.

“What we have indicated in the past continues to be true today, that we have routinely opposed the inclusion of ideologically-driven riders in the budget process,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters Friday. “And certainly a rider that would on a wholesale basis defund Planned Parenthood, which is the proposal of some Republicans in the House, is certainly something that would draw a presidential veto.”

Last time Republicans shut down the government for one of their right wing crusades, it was a complete political disaster for them. Will they be crazy enough to do it again, over something like this — based on a bunch of deceptively edited “sting” videos produced by religious fanatics that show no genuine wrongdoing?

Stay tuned for the next thrilling chapter in “GOP Politics for Idiots.”

Obama hasn’t had any fucks to give about the feelings of the GOP since he was inaugurated for his second term. If they want to grandstand over a 500 million dollar grant, it’s their funeral.

The GOP is going from figurative war on women™ to literal war on women™.

Check that. They’re just intensifying the war on women™, now with more guns and ammo and reckless disregard for US law, the Supreme Court, and federalism. That’s thanks to the theocrat Mike Huckabee who’s attempting to raise his profile in a field loaded with misogynists.

Huckabee wants to actually use the FBI and US military to shut down abortion clinics and Planned Parenthood. There’s no other way to explain his statement on the matter. This isn’t some hypothetical or random musing. He’s actually saying this is what he’d do if President.

Huckabee could order federal troops to shut down abortion clinics. They would simply tell him to fuck off, no way in hell, you’re insane etc.

He could then use this “mutiny” by lib-indoctrinated troops to call for volunteers and informal militia to handle the task instead. He could call it the national salvation army or something. The indoctrination provided by the Jade Helm conspiracy theories would have helped lay the groundwork for this.

But was we well know & remember, the GOP “doesn’t do nuance.” It’s all about gut instinct, kneejerk, shoot first & yee haaa! Perfect for a voter base of people for whom a 30-second negative TV ad is about the breadth & depth of their ability to focus & cogitate.

Fear of the law is the only thing that keeps the anti-choice loons from burning down every abortion clinic in the country and murdering as many staff members as they can get their Christian, pro-life hands on.
Given the typical RWNJ’s ignorance of constitutional process, a green light from the president himself could easily lead to the American equivalent of Kristallnacht. I am not exaggerating or engaging in Godwinesque hyperbole. For one thing, such an officially sanctioned uprising would almost certainly result in more murders than occurred in the Kristallnacht riots (96 confirmed, possibly several hundred).

Speaking of fear of the law:
Angel Dillard to Stand Trial for Threatening Abortion Provider

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit’s decision overturns a lower court ruling that held Dillard’s 2011 letter to Dr. Mila Means saying someone might place a bomb under her car was constitutionally protected free speech.

The ruling comes in the Department of Justice’s civil lawsuit against Dillard for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, the federal law that prohibits threatening or otherwise interfering with access to abortion clinics or providers.

Dillard also argued that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act protected her from any punishment

Pro-choicers think the way to prevent abortions is for women to have more options and access to birth control and are taught to make the best choices for themselves.

The other point is that pro-lifers have had 42 years, and have barely moved the needle of public opinion. They’ve made only incremental progress toward banning abortion, and they’ve done it at the expense of access to healthcare for poor women in many places.

Pro-choicers, OTOH, have prevented millions of abortions by supporting the things we know reduce abortions - affordable, easily available, effective contraception, and full, honest, non-judgemental sex ed.

Assuming that life begins at the moment of conception, therefore abortion is death/murder - it makes for a ‘shut eyes scream la la la la’ intellectual foundation.

It’s the only possible argument that invalidates female control of procreation while rallying behind a fanatical good vs evil cause. One of the last good causes.

in a way, I have to be grateful to our sitting President, otherwise all of this shit that is being brought out into the open about race, sexism, bigotry would have continued to simmer under the surface and our media ignoring it wouldn’t have been a big deal, business as usual.

Now, this shit is on, we see the GOP in all of its ugly diversity, from corporate fat cats looking to milk the government teat, to theocratic government wannabees, to ammosexuals and the racists and bigots that infest the right. They don’t have any other platform than “fuck you” to those people or the holders of concepts they don’t approve of. There’s no thought here, they simply take their cue from either their own bully pulpit or the notion that somebody somewhere has a chance to live a life outside of their say so.

the media does they’re usual shitty job of falsely equivocating between our “choices” but I really think that people that loosely pay attention to politics are starting to notice just how crazy these people are. They can couch their histrionics in measured tones and properly coiffed hair, but the message itself is pure loathing of the other with no ideas on how to solve the apparently obvious problems that face us today.

Hilary is just as loathesome to them because she happens to be smarter than most of them and sporting the optional set of equipment than they do which they can’t fathom much less understand. While I do not wish harm to these folks (except for the grifters that keep them a seething volatile mass or rage) I pity them for when that moment of realization comes how completely and ethically and morally wrong that they are, that they don’t simply off themselves in some sort of firearm induced rapture.

Was the last shutdown really a disaster for the Republicans? Certainly it played that way at the time, but they ended up gaining seats in the 2014 election. They paid no real price. If anything I’d think they’d be emboldened…foolishly, perhaps.

Eventually you probably won’t. I don’t think there’s any reason we couldn’t induce parthenogenesis in people. Getting rid of the males is one way to reduce the human aggression problem, but I’d prefer it doesn’t come to that.

Right wing extremists. The same right wing extremists who claim that the IRS was out to get Tea Party groups (for the IRS actually making sure that groups aren’t wrongfully claiming exemptions they aren’t entitled to), is now all about trying to get the government to eliminate access to health care - including abortion - for women by force.

That’s not just Mike Huckabee, but the feeling among a growing number of right wing extremists. It doesn’t just show up fully formed in Huckabee’s statements. He’s expressing what he’s hearing in his circle of extremists.

The right wing is rancid.

They have a persecution complex and think that the government is out to get them, all while they themselves are looking to persecute those that don’t hew to their worldview.

He could then use this “mutiny” by lib-indoctrinated troops to call for volunteers and informal militia to handle the task instead. He could call it the national salvation army or something. I have been to that boneyard. What I saw a few years ago was openly chopped B-52’s left out for satellite verification. And lots of old intact fighters covered up as if they would be recalled and flown. Also saw a bunch of very old drones, of the same overall shape as the SR-71 engine pods.

Interesting how they chopped the bombers into segments and just left them there. Big crane and heavens own guillotine blade. Must be quite a sight in operation.

You don’t have to go that far. Just stories of infants that were killed due to abuse/neglect, or infants that were birthed and left to die.

But people read stories like that every day and it doesn’t seem to matter. The anti-choicers know what works…. visuals.

I know this will sound really crass, but I would love to counter all the pictures of bloody fetuses with pictures of what a six-year-old’s body looks like when bullets tear through it.

Just hit ‘em with the story of ‘Genie’ - one of the most appalling cases of child abuse I’ve ever heard about.

Even the rather clinical and detached Wikipedia entry is enough to make my hair stand on end.

They don’t care about them. Once they’re born they turn into greedy little parasites sucking the taxpayers dry. Only the Sacred Fetus matters to these people.

The fetus is only sacred to RWNJs because its supposed rights are a weapon against self-determination for women.

Yep. The people pushing for ‘personhood’ for an embryo will take that ‘personhood’ from the woman carrying it.

When one of my squadrons switched aircraft type we sent all 75 of our old birds to Davis Monthan. This was in early 1970. Our old aircraft were post-Korean War Grumman F9s.

The drones are probably Lockheed D-21s. This was a mach 3 reconnaissance drone developed in parallel with the SR-71’s immediate predecessor, the A-12 and intended to be launched from an A-12 variant called the M-21. This was much more like the later SR-71 than the standard A-12 since it was a two seater. One of the M-21s crashed during a launch test and the AF changed the launch platform to a modified B-52. Like the A-12 and SR-71 themselves, this was an incredibly advanced program for the time frame, 1958-1971.

And,

We are the Center for Medical Progress at the Manhattan Institute which is different than the individual organization, Center for Medical Progress.

I’ve recently heard that about 3% of PP services are abortion related. If so, then when “Holding Our Own” says they’re 95 to 97%, that’s a complete numerical inversion of reality.

I’m used to RWNJs inverting reality, but I think this is the first time I’ve seen them quantify it.

re: #24 Wendell Zurkowitz (slave to the waffle light)

Because they are not just against Planned Parenthood as an institution, they are against the very concept of planning parenthood.

I saw a very new-looking sticker on the back of a compact wagon a couple of days ago; it was PP-pink with a big white cross on it and it read “Let GOD Plan Parenthood!”*. The driver was local, he pulled off into an apartment complex down the street from me… This is urban north Texas so it’s not like we’re out in the sticks…

I’m speculating that somebody had the stickers ready to go. I’d be interested to follow the money on this brouhaha, because it’s starting to feel to me very much like a pre-canned rally-the-freaks campaign to get some poll numbers back up.

*This has to be one of the most nauseatingly chauvinistic things I’ve ever read in slogan form… It’s like a big “I’M FUCKING CRAZY AND FUCK YOU!” sign.
