Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood Stalls in Senate, as Gov. Bobby Jindal Cuts Off Medicaid Funding

Jindal the creationist decides to harm the women of Louisiana
Politics • Views: 58,556

The Senate voted today on a Republican bill to harm millions of women, otherwise known as “defunding Planned Parenthood,” and the bill failed to advance. It needed 60 votes to go further, and the final tally was 53-46 in a vote that broke almost entirely along party lines.

And many of the very same Republicans who voted for this bill and are loudly inciting hatred against Planned Parenthood today voted for legalization of fetal tissue donation back in 1993, including Mitch McConnell, who you see in the photo above at today’s Senate hearing sporting a ludicrously dishonest sign. Just in case you were wondering exactly how hypocritical these horrible people really are.

In other Planned Parenthood news, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is taking advantage of the dishonest video smear campaign against Planned Parenthood to cut off Medicaid Funding to the organization — even though the two Planned Parenthood clinics in Louisiana do not perform abortions or participate in the fetal tissue donation program.

I’m really trying not to end this article with a string of insults to the absolutely despicable Republican Party, so I think I’ll just leave it at that.

Sen Mike Lee (R-Utah) talking now about how ‘merica kills babbies, PP “apparently breaks law” with its grisly works, PP “betrayed our trust”, PP “crossed a line that we can not support”, blah blah blah.

Oh, and he quotes Solzhenitsyn… O_o

Fuck off Sen. Lee.

Sent in a survey sent by the gop to registered republican voters in my district. It most likely wont even get scanned due to the comments I put on it. Only the envelope openers will see the note I included. Told them why I can no longer vote republican due to how they led the party over the cliff. Attack my female relatives and to hell with you.

“We are 100 percent nonprofit. We make zero profit from any fetal tissue donation,” Richards told NBC News.

“This wasn’t an effort to discover wrongdoing. This was a three-year effort to create wrongdoing and it was unsuccessful.”

There was a time when Republicans enthusiastically supported Planned Parenthood and other family-planning services. Sen. Barry Goldwater’s wife, Peggy, was a founding member of Planned Parenthood in Arizona. President Richard Nixon signed family-planning legislation in 1970 that authorized federal funding for groups such as Planned Parenthood. President George H.W. Bush, when he was a congressman from Houston, was nicknamed “Rubbers” because of his support of contraception and Planned Parenthood. As Charles noted above, Mitch McConnell and thirty-nine other Republicans, in a final vote of 93-4, authorized the National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act of 1993, which LEGALIZED THE EXACT TISSUE RESEARCH THEY NOW WANT TO MAKE ILLEGAL.

The question is, who will Roger Ailes select to be in the debate? On the one hand, John Kasich is a very legitimate contender and his polls numbers have been improving smartly, but on the other hand, Rick Perry has been one of the most outspoken critics of Trump and it should make for better TV if he is in the field. Who will Ailes anoint? We find out tomorrow night!

I’ll be more interested in the reactions of the audience - if there is another “Let ‘em die!” moment coming out of the ur-hate base. I kinda hope that Trump lets his mean streak out and just belittles Jeb!~’s manhood. He’s the kind of squirming little weenie that that kind of attack would stick to - kinda how “wimp” stuck to Poppy Bush (shout-out to earlier “cuckservative” thread). If Trump mounts a knuckledragger-type assault on Jeb, all that Koch money could go for naught, as the dimwit troglodytes that make up the primary voting base conclude that Jeb is a sissieman.

Idiocracy. No longer fiction.

While every single one of the GOP pres candidates wants war and wants it RIGHT NOW!, Donald Trump makes his reasons clear:

“I would attack the oil. I would take away their source of power. I would take away their source of wealth. You will defeat ISIS. They are very wealthy. They’re building a hotel in Syria. A hotel. They’re competing with me. They’re building a hotel in Syria. … They’re wealthy. You know why they’re wealthy? From the oil. I would absolutely cut off their source of wealth, which is the oil. I would bomb the hell out of them!”

The Cop
Darren Wilson was not indicted for shooting Michael Brown. Many people question whether justice was done.

newyorker.com

During our conversations, Wilson typically sat in a recliner, holding his baby daughter, who was born in March. He said that, after Brown’s death, people “had made threats about doing something to my unborn child.” Wilson, a former Boy Scout with round cheeks and blue eyes, speaks with a muted drawl. When Barb went to the hospital to give birth, he said, “I made her check in anonymously.”

Wilson said that he had interviewed for a few police positions but had been told that he would be a liability. “It’s too hot an issue, so it makes me unemployable,” he said. He tried not to brood about it: “I bottle everything up.”

re: #112 Tigger2

Conservatives’ idea of taking care of the unborn is to hold every woman responsible for bringing a pregnancy to term, no matter what. That enables them to make lofty statements like, “We should not rest until we have done everything to protect the lives of unborn children.” Sure, because you want to put women on the hook legally to do all of that noble work while you go off and strike poses. The slimy bastards won’t even go as far as ensuring that every American child is well fed - let alone doing anything whatsoever to support single mothers.

Are you also fine with the use of deadly force against a doctor to prevent him from performing an abortion, just like one might use deadly force against an assailant to protect an innocent person from being killed?”

They usually do some kind of “well, that’s different… blah blah.” I tell them that if they really believe that abortion is murder, it leads almost inexorably to the second set of beliefs.

At first it was just a kinda in your face thought, repeal the Hyde act. Now I suppose that might not be a fight Planned Parenthood wants right now. But ya know what? The more I think about it the more I think it’s a great way to move the argument away from where it is now and force the opponents to own up to the consequences of that act, that restriction.

Brother from another mother!

I remember a Gov’t Mule show at the Warfield right about the time Warren was joining The Dead on tour (1993) where they brought out the full Dead lineup and did a tweener set of about 55 minutes - opening with Phil ripping a baseline across the floor into The Other One. Anyway, after that ripping set, Matt Abts opened the Mule’s second (show’s third) set with a solo drumz of about 10 minutes. Fucking off the hook.

re: #249 Decatur Deb

Authorities believe the men were preparing for the possibility that the government intended to use armed forces to impose martial law, which they planned to resist.

The FBI also reportedly became aware that the men wanted to manufacture pipe bombs.

Other defensive items were said to be purchased from stores, including a .338 caliber rifle, hand-held radios with throat microphones for communication, military issue Kevlar helmets, body armor vests and balaclavas (a form of cloth headgear designed to expose only parts of the face).

They seem bright.

Whats the best format?

If you consider yourself an audiophile, go with FLAC (if you’re using Apple software, get ALAC) which is six bucks more. I don’t have high-end audio equipment anymore so MP3 does the trick for me. FLAC (and ALAC) files are significantly larger than MP3 (higher bit rates and all).

I can tell the difference between the formats on high-end audio equipment, there’s less “hiss.” But for everyday use (earbuds, car stereo, Bose wave radio [which is my home living room stereo]) the difference is practically nil.

I stopped at a Dairy Queen for dinner tonight and sat at their outdoor patio. A couple groups with dogs in tow also showed up. The first group bought an ice cream cone for their dog, and the other dog watched enviously. Then the second group came out with their treats and they didn’t buy any treats for their dog. He was obviously ‘WTF’ while watching his humans slurp down their chocolate Blizzards and he wound up barking at the other group because he wanted a treat so bad and the owner and her kids were completely oblivious. The dog wound up spending 5 minutes trying to lick the remains of some old ice cream from the concrete patio.
I almost when in an bought a cone for the dog, but I figured there was too much of a possibility that they wouldn’t give it to him. Honestly, if you’re going to take your dog to the Dairy Queen, he gets a treat.
