Sorry, but that doesn’t do much, boss.

AAMOF, I don’t think there’s enough weed in CO that will make this any sense at all.

Wikipedia must think we have a slow news day.

They are reporting about a ship commissioning.

They are reporting about a ship commissioning.

It’s a fairly standard item, PLL. Because Wikipedia has a page for every nuclear submarine the US Navy has ever fielded, it tends to note the days on which such ships are commissioned, as those dates are incorporated into the sub’s page.

I know they have pages on each ship.

However, I don’t recall a ship commissioning appearing on the current events section before.

re: #4 The War TARDIS

My brother is a plankholder on a fast attack sub so I’d have some familiarity with this kind of craft. A plankholder is the first group of crew who take the ship out on its trials. I was actually invited to the ceremony, but I could not make it. Nevertheless, I know exactly which sub it was.

I am watching the Trump video that was recommended.

I think we are coming towards the end of an era in the US. Since the Reagan days, greed has been seen as good, which has caused many of the issues you see today.

However, that generation is now beginning to slip out of power.

I think Trump running is showing the beginning of the end for that.

Bird in the Paw  Aug 4, 2015 • 9:33:28pm

I would say that WTF is an appropriate reaction, but not one that is unexpected. It is simply the manifestation of where power has always been in selecting who going to a candidate. In the past, the leaders of the various parties made their selections in backrooom deals; now we are seeing that played out in the open.

Weaponized Weed

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton warned Tuesday about the rise of what he called “weaponized marijuana” — synthetic pot known as “K2″ or “Spice” on the streets — which makes users psychotic while giving them superhuman strength.

re: #43 Iwouldprefernotto

Well, they can’t always get what they want. Instead of a clear and simple primary season, they got the sideshow circus with at least 17 candidates, with a bunch polling within the margin of error. Rather than a sign of strength, it indicates such a lack of faith in any of the “big” names that everyone decided to jump in, diluting the pool further.

At the same time, they’re all running with the same basic plan: repeal ACA, attack and destroy PP for carrying out abortions (which are legal) and for facilitating donations of fetal tissue for research/medical purposes (again legal), attack women’s health care, attack the safety net, care not a whit about what happens to anyone who is not a fetus in the womb, and seek to rejigger the tax code so that it further favors the wealthy and shifts the tax burdens on to everyone else.

Trump has managed to take control of the conversation by being the most brash, racist, and jingoistic of the bunch (for the moment). It’s now a race to see who can say the most idiotic thing to get the GOP base (which have become increasingly extreme right wing as the past 8 years has shown) to consider them over the other extremists who are running.

Cruz may figure that he’s got the support of rank and file GOPers and a bunch in the House, so that he can go full metal wingnut without repercussions. The threat alone shows just how lacking he is in character and judgment.

More to the point, consider if he were President and a Democrat in Congress threatened to do what he’s doing now. Cruz would be calling for impeachment of that Democrat and throwing the book at him - or claiming it is somehow unconstitutional or violative of his oath of office.

DAISDDAID.

47
lawhawk  Aug 5, 2015 • 6:00:33am

What about the other officers in the background who did nothing to stop this? No reprimands? No retraining? Nothing?

The problems with law enforcement treating suspects and those who are stopped without a shred of respect run deep and goes to the culture of law enforcement. We have to change that culture, and it starts with zero tolerance for malfeasance like this.

Consider it the broken windows fix for law enforcement. Minor violations indicate likely systemic violations and problems with the culture at a police department.

You don’t automagically end up with a Ferguson or Cleveland or Cincinnati. It takes years of a law enforcement culture that doesn’t respect those it pulls over, and sees a minority community in the worst possible light by initiating a shoot first ask no questions later.

And it has to change.

Justice demands it.

I thought K2 was banned long ago. I’ve never used Spice, but it used to be made with JWH-018, which I’ve experienced. It was just like incredibly powerful pot. No loss of sensation, delusions, or super-powers. They may be making it with something else now since all the JWH chems are banned.

Of course this stuff has little in common with pot, so “weaponized weed” is just silly.

Chief Bratton implied that K2 and similar substances are cannabis. Not so. They’re just grass clippings soaked in something nasty. A suspicious person might suspect that some of our cops are displeased that cannabis legalization will eliminate the easy, lucrative pot busts.

Wow, I didn’t think I’d log into LGF and see mention of K2 and Spice. I thought that stuff had pretty much been eliminated from any kind availability.

I have a friend that was messing with that crap thinking he could get away with getting a little buzz while looking for a job and being able to pass a piss test.

After a few months he was using it more and more and running around town looking for it as it was starting to become harder to find. That meant he was starting to get a bit addicted to it. And the more he smoked, the stranger the buzz.

Thankfully once it got almost impossible to find, he managed to get himself weened from it.

Strange stuff. Just legalize pot and be done with it. It might even cut back on people getting drunk and driving and people searching for synthetic heroin/morphine pharmaceuticals. Might even help cut back on the meth heads…or at least chill them out.

I’m far from being a theologian but, I did read both the old and new Testaments, with concordances, before I became a Buddhist. I believe that, over time, some Christian religions went from believing that you are made in the image of God and are therefore perfectible to insisting that everyone comes into the world burdened with sin and bound to heap on more sins. Yeah, Jeb’s just like Hillary, except for the bit about Jeb wanting to eliminate health care programs for women, defunding PP, repealing ACA, etc.

Brilliant move by Trump just ahead of the debate though…linking Jeb! to Hillary. Well played Donald. Give this story a little media coverage and Jeb! will be in single digits with the base.

Simple enough answer: Hire a couple extra tower guards and add to the arms in each tower by adding a high-quality shotgun. Then blow the drones out of the sky.

Another problem solved by more guns.

I cook. The Mrs. bakes. I consider this an acceptable tradeoff, especially considering that my hours are better than the Mrs. and I can get home earlier to cook, while she’s not.

There are times where she’ll cook too - she’s got a handful of signature dishes we like, so she’ll do them.

In the end, we’re both happy, and I get baked goods out of the process. Yum.

Right. In 2013, the government spent $432 million on war planes that Congress knew would never be used. But yeah, the health of more than 150 million women in the country doesn’t even deserve a little more than planes that will never take flight. Clinton, knowing this, sent out a praise-worthy tweet that read: “.@JebBush: You are absolutely, unequivocally wrong.”

Okay, so I decided to crunch numbers a bit (thank you Wolfram Alpha) regarding abortions.
My results so far a bit surprising:

Abortions in the US

As you see, there is a sharp drop in ‘96. The only thing I can find for that year that sticks out is the terroristlone wolf campaign of Eric Robert Rudolph.
Compare to this:
Abortions in Finland

And to this:
Abortions in Denmark

Denmark and Finland must be doing something right because of the steady decline since the 1970’s.
And Finland has an abortion rate a little less than 3/4 that of the US, and that with early and mandatory (no religious opt-out) sex ed, and low costs for abortions ($95-ish).

Sweden is more disappointing tho:

Abortions in Sweden

I don’t think the graphs say much of anything. Births do have a tendency to increase when the economy is good and decrease when the economy is bad. You have to look at sex-ed programs in every school; availablity of health centers; social workers who go to schools and talk about sex; appropriations; transportation; …immigration

Something is up with the Times. They must have hit their heads hard or something, but they are not the same Times.

But then, all big media is a mess. I guess it all comes from the ‘net killing them by the news getting around so fast due to social media and the majority of people getting that news online and it is killing TV viewers which kills the advertising numbers.

I think we are in a period of waiting to see how it all works out on the ‘net and then deciding who can and cannot be believed.
