Jeb Bush and the rest of the candidates are trying their best to be equally idiotic, but it’s clear that Donald Trump is leading the GOP around by the nose. As Bob and Chez say in their latest podcast, he’s destined to rule the upcoming GOP debates. The right wing base is smitten with Trump’s caveman views.

Also, this is one of the biggest reasons I left Colorado. The Muslim community in Denver was so hyper-conservative, it made me concerned. I was right.

An alert has been issued by the FBI to all law enforcement agencies in Colorado and Wyoming involving U.S. military families and concerns about who may be watching them.
The alert says Middle Eastern men are approaching families of U.S. military members at their homes in Colorado and Wyoming. It mentions Greeley, Colorado, and Cheyenne, Wyoming, as the specific areas.
In one case last May the wife of a military member was approached in front of her home by two Middle Eastern males. The men stated that she was the wife of a U.S. interrogator. When she denied their claims the men laughed. The two men left the area in a dark-colored, four-door sedan with two other Middle Eastern males in the vehicle.

Chicago police detained thousands of black Americans at interrogation facility

A 42-year-old civil rights activist says he was abducted by masked officers, shackled, held on false charges and “with no food, no water, no access to the outside world” at the behest of “covert operations”. He is one of at least 118 people whom police have detained at Homan Square since the Guardian exposed the warehouse’s usage as a detention facility in February. His wife described the ordeal as feeling their family had been “lost” by the police.

One young man, held at the warehouse for 14 hours without any public listing of his whereabouts, was just shy of his 18th birthday; the courts sentenced him to community service and probation.

Another man, not included in the disclosed data, said he fled Chicago after resisting police pressure to become an informant during multiple stints inside Homan Square.

All California sworn peace officers take their oath to the state. Any cop, CHP, deputy sheriff, or state park ranger who is also sworn can enforce the law wherever she or he may be within the state. City/County jurisdictions are for administrative purposes only.

Based on personal observations in Southern California: Although all law enforcement officers in CA technically have jurisdiction everywhere in the state, they will *rarely* go outside of their area of responsibility unless called for assistance by the agency that is normally responsible for that area.

I’d be surprised if LASD goes there unless the LAPD ask them too.

Ah yes, TRAP laws that would be better applied to plastic surgery centers than abortion clinics, because plastic surgery centers face more complications and deaths to patients than abortion clinics do.

But this isn’t about the woman’s health. It’s about trumping the woman’s rights with those of a fetus, and who cares what happens outside the womb.

Like Dim Jim Hoft, she is perfectly aware that she’d lying and disinforming, but doesn’t care as long as it inflames the rubes.

Well we know what GOP plans for healthcare are from recent statements by the “moderate” GOP presidential candidate, Jeb Bush:

2. Repeal the ACA, eliminating healthcare coverage for tens of millions of Americans.

True but if someone in the city limits of LA, calls the county sheriff for assistance, they will be told to call the LAPD, or if it’s obviously an emergency, the sheriff dispatcher will take the information and call the LAPD on land-line or over mutual aid radio channels. There aren’t just going to go out there on their own in most situations.

CNN reporting shots fired in Nashville movie theater.

Yeah…I saw that and know that area of town fairly well.

I was on my way to work a while ago, traveling Briley Parkway South to I-40 West to I-24 East; as soon as I got on 40, a Metro cruiser and a Metro cycle cop come blasting through towards 24. Making my way through the I-24/I-440 interchange, it was like a convoy of cop cars, with another 4-5 cruisers joining up going towards Antioch/Hickory Hollow.

I thought it might have been a big wreck somewhere down the interstate; I didn’t learn about the shooting until I got to work. From what we’ve heard, the shooter’s apparently dead, but I haven’t seen anything on victims yet (but, then again, I’m at work with the TV sound muted and captions on and the TV to my back, so they probably have said more about that).

A couple of issues. First, the Secret Service does not close the bridge when the President is in town for a couple of reasons, the biggest one is that he is only in town for a couple of hours at most, and not addressing a quarter million plus gathering of people. I actually live in the exclusion zone (or in this case inclusion zone). I’m on the Delaware Riverfront on Columbus Blvd between Market and Race. With a million and a half people expected each day (Pope JP2 only filled JFK with about 100 grand), I’m not going anywhere anyway. I’ll just load up on ice cream and pretend we had a blizzard.

LOL, no, just a coincidence. Although the personalities are similar. Rizzo was a police commissioner who was elected mayor for two terms. Look him up on Wikipedia; the guy was a real fucking piece of work. His big claim to fame prior to becoming mayor was being photographed with a nightstick in his tux’s cummerbund, after leaving a gala to go beat on black people.

I know people from that era who could be classified as hippies. The cops were fucking brutal. Literally jumping out of cars and wailing on white guys for having long hair, and black people for being black.

The fact that this guy was mayor when JP2 was here and didn’t overreact the way the Secret Service is now is telling.

No, it was the Parkway, where they have all of the events like this (Logan Circle, technically) and the crowds were estimated at 1 million or so.

Look, if you’re cool with it, fine. I really do see this as a borderline unnecessary suspension of civil rights in the name of security. Either the Secret Service has been tipped off about something really horrible happening, or they’re imposing martial law to make their lives easier.

Shutting down the center of one of the largest American cities for a conference and a Mass for nearly three days is utter horseshit.

163
SteveMcGaziBolaGate  Aug 5, 2015 • 1:13:06pm

re: #162 Mattand

First, shutting down traffic is not martial law. Second, this is no mere “conference”. A conference may take place at the convention center or a hotel. Here you have millions of people coming. Shutting down traffic isn’t just a security issue, it’s common sense traffic control. There would be nowhere to put all those cars. It would be impossible to drive anywhere anyway. Heck, it’s hard enough on a regular weekend day.
