And again. Another movie theater shooting incident. Apparently, no one was killed this time except the shooter, but these reports are still early. The suspect was apparently carrying a hatchet as well, and may have wounded someone with it.

(CNN)Police responded Wednesday to reports of an active shooter at the Carmike Hickory 8 movie theater complex in Antioch, Tennessee, a Nashville police supervisor said Wednesday.

The Metro Nashville Police Department reported shortly after 2 p.m. (3 p.m. ET) that the “suspect (is) dead.”

As I said below, I expect the NRA to notify Republican politicians that the new talking point is that movie theaters need to station armed “good guys” in theaters for shoot outs.

Fact is, that just hours before the theater incident, there was another officer involved shooting. This was in CA. Unarmed man who may have engaged in suicide by cop. Odd circumstances to say the least.

re: #145 TedStriker

Yeah…I saw that and know that area of town fairly well.

I was on my way to work a while ago, traveling Briley Parkway South to I-40 West to I-24 East; as soon as I got on 40, a Metro cruiser and a Metro cycle cop come blasting through towards 24. Making my way through the I-24/I-440 interchange, it was like a convoy of cop cars, with another 4-5 cruisers joining up going towards Antioch/Hickory Hollow.

I thought it might have been a big wreck somewhere down the interstate; I didn’t learn about the shooting until I got to work. From what we’ve heard, the shooter’s apparently dead, but I haven’t seen anything on victims yet (but, then again, I’m at work with the TV sound muted and captions on and the TV to my back, so they probably have said more about that).

team_fukit  Aug 5, 2015 • 12:52:23pm

I used to work in movie theaters as a lad, and this time of year most cinemas -already do- have armed good guys with guns on staff (during busy seasons and weekend nights). Plain clothes off-duty police officers paid by the hour, usually.

Apparently only some superficial injuries. One person allegedly struck by hatchet, with a “bruise” on arm. 2 others sprayed with pepper spray by the shooter.

I am convinced the GOP is a party of spoiled children. Reading the bit about the Paul’s guy getting indicted and blaming it on Obama is another fine example.

They all lie and tell stories to get people fighting, cheat and copy, blame others for their mess, act like they never said anything bad when caught, mimic each other’s bad behavior, refuse to do what is right and they know better and throw tantrums when they don’t get their way.

What a bunch of brats. Rich kid brats. Why does anyone support them, it only rewards the bad behavior?

Time for a GOP timeout! Vote the little monsters out of office.

ObserverArt  Aug 5, 2015 • 2:00:38pm

How about a game for the guns nuts. Call it “Shoot Right or Forever Shut The Hell Up!”

Get a closed theater. Put all kinds of gun nuts with big mouths (you know who they are) in it with pistols loaded with paint bullets. Every entrant has a different colored paint so that it identifies the shooters. Tell them after the lights are out and the movie is started at a random point a lone gunman will stand up and fire 9 blanks as they move around the theater. It is then the jobs of all the big mouth gun nuts to identify the shooter and shoot him to eliminate the threat.

After the shooting calms down a bit, turn the lights back on. Anyone with paint from another entrant’s gun is now considered dead and the one that shot them is also eliminated for killing someone that isn’t the shooter. They are all now charged to “Forever Shut The Hell Up” about guns forever.

If the real gunman is left without any paint on him, then they whole lot of them are now charged to ” Forever Shut The Hell Up” about guns.

Anyone that fails to shoot is also encouraged to “Forever Shut The Hell Up” about guns for being wrong about how they could stop the shooter.

I have a feeling with gun nuts that flap their jaws all the time it is safe to say there will be innocents killed. There is also a pretty good chance the real shooter might not get shot with paint. So, a good chance a whole hell of a lot of nuts will be told to ” Forever Shut The Hell Up” about guns. I’m pretty sure there will be all kinds of shooting as the nuts will be out to prove a point.

1 - I don’t know if there can be paint gun rounds that fire like a real gun with a muzzle flash and some smoke. It would be great if the game could have as realistic a gun fight as possible. It needs to be as real as possible to prove a point.

2 - I shouldn’t be the one to run the game. I might forget to put in the paint bullets and use real live rounds.

3 - NRA head Wayne LaPierre has to be contestant number one.

re: #71 Bubblehead II

Well the TPers probably will not buy into it as he is currently hitting all the chords in their resonation chamber.

I agree. It would be the old-school GOPers. They probably already see him as a major problem, all they need is someone to blame…why not a Clinton?!

Perhaps the assertion is that Iran actually had centrifuges in 2001, contrary to the best available information.

How this possibility could help the wingnut cause is not clear.

Obama claims Iran had no centrifuges when Bush 43 took office 8 years later had 19,000. Does he know they had none in 2001?

Good grief, she been talking to Palin?

re: #96 Kid A

This should be promoted as a page.

Well, I don’t know a whole hell of a lot about guns…so I have no idea how realistically this could be done. And since we are dealing with gun nuts it would have to be a solid factual game that could be setup. Knowing gun nuts, any little bit of wiggle room about how my game would never work would be taken.

Maybe with some help from some of the LGFers that are familiar with guns and paint gun games could let me know if it is feasible. If it is, I might do up some graphics and rewrite it a bit and do a page.

Help Lizards! Should I do a game page? Maybe a weekend project?

@106 EPR-radar:

If Iran already had marijuana in their blood centrifuges, then it’s OK if we shoot them in the head go to war with them.

Cue the usual suspects mocking this incident with “Hey, why don’t we ban all hatchets”. Haven’t bothered to do a search on twitter, but betting somebody probably already said it …

OK, I also have Thomas Massie as my rep.
He’s Rand Paul’s protege.

Well do I remember donating to Bill Adkins in your honor in 2012 (I believe we traded donations—you gave to Gloria Tinubu, I gave to Adkins—they both, of course, lost!)

You got creepy Tom Massie; I got do-nothing Tom Rice. Sigh.

I have a fear that more crazy people will do attacks in theaters now, because a lot of people are there at once.

Updates on this story:

According to CBS News around 10pm tonight:

A man armed with a hatchet and a pellet gun unleashed a volley of pepper spray at audience members inside a Tennessee movie theater Wednesday before being fired at by a police officer and shot dead by a SWAT team as he tried to escape out a back door, police said.

Late Wednesday, Metro Nashville police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Vincente David Montano of Nashville. His motive remained unclear, police spokesman Don Aaron said.

Legit mental health problems, pepper spray and a pellet gun… seems like something very, very awry and/or suicide by cop (or maybe not, since he was trying to get away?).
