I was checking in hoping to learn more about the GOP implosion, but instead I see more dead people on the streets of Missouri and a peaceful anniversary march marred by violence. And don’t even blame the poor dead fucker. His girlfriend survived so you can expect this story will get told. Fucking assholes. Didn’t they learn last year force just makes them look like dicks?
Oh, and I wanted to talk about finally seeing Chicken Run…fun animated movie…but no, fuck it…I’m going to sleep.
Good night.
Well, whoever was shooting, they weren’t standing right there in front of the cops doing it, that’s one thing for sure. So basically, they heard gunshots and just killed some guy at random.
Now, it is being reported that the police shot someone tonight. On August 9th. And that's wild. America. Ferguson.

It was all caught on video too as the media was interviewing the acting police chief. Shootings were at a distance. A lot of them. Different guns too. Sigh.

I clicked over there to see which one of my Tweets was featured but I didn’t get far enough down the page to find it. It was all full of racist bullshit from Gatestone, Pam Geller, Spencer, etc. etc.
Blocked now, I hope this means they can’t “feature” any more of my Tweets.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand tattoos. In an informal survey of my nursing school class, 70% of the women had tattoos but only 4 out of 13 guys did. They will most likely have to wear long sleeves and or turtlenecks when they’re on the job.
And 7 people had to have those rings taken out of their ears and the earlobes fixed. They take that presentation stuff seriously.

I’ve never really “gotten” tattoos, either, but that’s just me.
Then again, if I were going to do it, it’d be something no one could see when I’m dressed in normal clothes, sort of like the work done on Ralph Fiennes in Red Dragon.

Re: Trump. In light of his continued popularity with RWNJs, I propose that the saying “Never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel” is no longer true. Thanks to social media, we all buy all the ink we could ever want. Insults and the worst sort of behavior is just click-bait now, leading to endless free publicity. I might actually start respecting Trump’s marketing savvy if he actually planned this crap out.
re: #33 LastYearsMan
I don’t think he planned ahead. I really don’t see an end game for him. His support can only go down from here. Or maybe that’s another way of saying he’s about maxed out. Nobody’s going to leave Jeb! or Rubio or whoever to join Trump (or else they would have already). I think he’s going to stay in the low 20s but as other candidates drop out somebody will overtake him in the lead and even the media will eventually grow tired of him saying the same old carp.

Smoke grenades get very hot due to the pyrotechnic method they use to produce smoke. It ought to be noted that their being used is Standard Operating Procedure if police come under gunfire, regardless of the actions any crowds nearby. The smoke grenades are used to block the shooters’ lines of sight and also those of any TV cameras set up to get crowd shots.

I’d rate the Chauchat closer than distant, more a “disrespectful 2nd”, though at least it was replaced fairly swiftly.
But that makes a nice counterpoint: In dismissing the European-designed Chauchat, the Army dumped it for the American designed BAR, whereas with the American designed M-73 the Army ended up having to go to FN for the European-designed FN MAG after all. We should have just done that in the first place, but Ordnance was being quite stubborn and also quite foolish, again. Their first post-WWII ideas, the M14 and M60 have eventually found good iterations, but the coaxial guns were worthless.
Thankfully, after those 60’s-70’s debacles the US Army stopped trying to design guns, and now just buys them from companies that know how to design them..

The best tattoo I ever saw was on a bartender; it was a panther with his haunches on her shoulder, his body stretched down his upper arm, face and whiskers just above the elbow, front legs extended with paws wrapped around her wrists. The panther’s tail hung down her back, with the last bit of it curled up where a tramp stamp would be.

There’s lots of derp already percolating.
I’ve got some guy tweeting that PP videos prove PP illegality, even though Congress sat on videos for more than month before they were released knowing that there was nothing illegal indicated in them. And that investigations so far have shown no wrongdoing.
And that abortion is legal.
And that fetal tissue donation is legal.
There’s nothing illegal about what PP did in any of those videos. Squeamishness is not indication of illegality.
Yet this nitwit persists in belief that it’s all proof that PP is going to get the feds to find them doing illegal stuff and shut them down. Yawn.
Oh, and since when is an online poll treated with any seriousness? Chuck Todd says so? Well, that explains that. Online polls are notoriously self selecting and can’t be taken to mean anything other than a popularity contest among those who’ve clicked through.

There is a movie with Jennifer Aniston (can’t remember the title, it was a comedy about a bounty hunter co-starring that guy from 300) where she goes into a tattoo parlor and asks for exactly that same thing. I wonder if she, or the screen writer saw that bartender’s ink.

Rachel McAdams was pretty awesome, though the backstory they attempted to create for her seemed incomplete.
I thought the last two episodes went a long way in giving the season some weight, although I never did quite put together the whole plot, something about diamonds, and money and land deals.
Compared to last season, way too many characters and groups of characters to keep track of.
I did like the plot’s use of the victim’s children as the city manager’s killers, although again, would like to have seen this more developed.

The MAG is a far better weapon than any post WWII machine gun the US came up with. I know you think the M-60 was eventually fixed. Perhaps, but I never carried a pig that was worth the weight and didn’t fall apart quickly… The MAG is a fairly heavy monster and many currently don’t like that but the insane reliability that comes with that weight more than makes up for it in my book. It can talk as long as a properly set up M2 and that’s saying a lot.
Rumor was, back in the early 80’s, that the Soviet PKM which was tested alongside the MAG as a M-73/219 replacement actually won the testing. The Army wasn’t quite willing to go that far afield for a new MG and they “massaged” the numbers till the MAG came out a bit better.
That was probably a good idea as changing the 7.62 Russian Rimmed to 7.62 Nato would have probably resulted in as big a mess as the 8mm Lebel to .30-06 Chauchat or the .30-06 version of the MG-42 that ordinance built without changing the dimensions appropriately.

Nope:
Good Morning Everyone. Schools are starting this week across the country. We start back tomorrow, with students coming in today to get lockers, schedules, ect. And just like this time last year, the town of Ferguson is fresh in our minds.
It has been a crazy year, especially when we think about the intersecting issues of race, class, guns, and law enforcement. Our attention has been grabbed in ways that have times been uncomfortable. What is known as the Black Lives Matters movement has been created. People are more aware (and some more defiant) of the role that race plays in our society. Personally, I’ve been able to take a deeper look back into my own, sometimes painful(emotionally and physically) experiences and now have a more complex view of these issues that I did just a few years ago.
In terms of what has happened over the weekend at Bernie Sanders event, I’m disapointed in the optics. The Black Lives Matters movement, which I feel I’m a part of, is very complex. It must be noted that this movement is a very modern Civil Rights movement, and as such does not fit the mold that we may want it to fit. It can be a movement of leaders, and be leaderless at the same time. There can be a powerful organization, and decentralization together. It goes to the point that Black people are not monolithic, something that some of this country has a bit of a problem understanding. Sure, almost all of us vote Democratic, but in no way are we a guaranteed vote. We want the party that we are a part of to truly value us beyond a vote. We want the country to be a better place for us and for all people. We all can have different ideas for what could be solutions to the ills that face us. At times I go back and forth with myself over the level of intensity the movement should have.
Well, as far as last night, I’ll wait for some more information before trying to give an opinion.
Thanks to this community for being what it is, and not only fostering great discussion over these tough issues, but being so fair minded and open to others experiences and views.

The PKM is very durable, as are all Mikhail Kalashnikov’s designs, but it is not as accurate as the MAG. Of course, some of that is the optics fitted to the few FN MAGs and their semi-auto clones in civilians hands in the US, which the military started buying for use in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Send in the troops to fight ISIS and take their oil.
Does he even know where ISIS is fighting?
This is the list of countries where ISIS currently has a presence (and I purposefully chose FoxNews as the source, given his likely reliance on Fox for his news):
While the heart of ISIS beats strongest in Syria and Iraq, terrorist cells tied to the group have popped up in 11 countries including Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Philippines, Jordan, Lebanon, Algeria, Egypt and Yemen, according to U.S. intelligence reports.
Of that list, most are actually US allies - including Pakistan, Philippines, Jordan, and Egypt.
The combined populations of those countries? Nearly 3/4 of a billion people.
Indonesia - 237 million; Pakistan 190 million; Philippines 94 million, Egypt 87 million; Algeria 36 million; Afghanistan 32 million; Iraq 32 million; Yemen 23 million.
You get the idea. This isn’t so much as a plan or even a notion, but a pipedream concocted by a fever dreamed neocon who thinks that if bomb enough countries and take their oil, things will somehow improve.

Yeah, the sound of the alarm this morning was painful. Couple of counties in Eastern KY started last week. Trying to get ahead of any possible bad winter and missed days. Last year we had two different winter storms pass through Lexington that dumped 14 inches, and 18 inches of snow respectively. Places in the mountains and hollers have such a hard time with roads that the amount of school days missed can end up in the 25+ range, in an area that already struggles with educational achievement.

Breaking News out of Västerås, Sweden:
Triple Stabbing at Swedish IKEA Store
The three victims were stabbed early on Monday afternoon inside the Västerås branch of the global furniture giant, with police called to the scene at around 1pm.
“We don’t have the complete picture yet, but what we know right now is that none of our staff are among the injured. For now we’re focusing on our staff members and customers and are directing all questions to the police, who are investigating at the scene,” Daniela Rogosic, a press officer for Ikea told The Local shortly after 3pm.
But police confirmed that two people had died in the incident.
“A man and a woman who were wounded with a knife and later died of their injuries. Another person is seriously injured. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder,” a police spokesperson Victoria Holmgren told the TT news agency.
Department store manager Mattias Johansson told regional Swedish newspaper VLT that the victims were “three seemingly ordinary visitors”.

Don’t expect the party to value you for more than your vote (and your energy). it’s a political party, not a theology. Since FDR the Dems have been a fragile herd of perfectly valid interest groups all tending in the same general direction. The RW bastards know the Dem vulnerabilities and have successfully exploited them several times in a generation. I don’t consider myself married to the Democratic Party—I just vote for them every freakn’ time and increasingly donate and work for them. The party is a corrupt, shaky wall but it is the only thing standing between us and Bull Connor. Don’t break it.

Sweet delicious irony.
A bunch of Breitbrats think that the outlet has taken money from Trump in exchange for more favorable coverage. The powers that be deny any such thing.

For fuck’s sake, for the last 6+ years Fox “news” has given Trump a platform to spew his hatred and idiocy and just NOW they are pushing back. Fuck them. You reap what you sow. You built that shit sandwich, Fox. Take a big bite.
Fox News has also been the GOP’s media megaphone and one of that party’s most effective agents in keeping its base riled up and distracted with hate, fear and suspicion. Fox News commodified the worst aspects of the American id and, in furtherance of its commercial interest, has done its best to make that id’s most excessive manifestations seem if not normal then at least worth considering.

Don’t expect the party to value you for more than your vote (and your energy). it’s a political party, not a theology. Since FDR the Dems are a fragile herd of perfectly valid interest groups all tending in the same general direction.

I clicked around on that afvnews blog and saw a fascinating entry. I had never heard nor read this before, but Germans felt the T34 was INFERIOR to their own tanks (once upgunned in 1942) The commander and gunner were the same person in the Soviet tanks, and that hindered their performance.

I’m sure there were several Lexingtons piled on top of each other. In ours the cops were pretty much tied up with drunken fratboys. My wife was an army brat from Ft. Knox, so she was comfortable there. The place was really beautiful, but ungodly expensive. UK sent me to work for a year in Carter and Greenup counties—really beautiful terrain totally screwed up by humans. Barring a Lotto hit, we’re stuck now in Baja Alabama swamps.

William had to head out, and I’m out soon but I’ve got time to field this one. The T-34 was regarded as superior to the Mark III and Mark IV panzers in terms of its mobility and armor protection, and was better than the Mark III for firepower and equal to the Mark IV.
The Germans did see the T-34/76’s turret layout as inferior, since as you noted it forced the tank’s commander to load or fire the gun. This coupled with the Soviet practice of keeping the hatches closed in combat that T-34s tended to just follow their commanders blindly, which the Germans called “chicks following a mother hen”, and such tanks were easy to ambush or hit from the flank.
The T-34/85 of 1944 cured the design problem, with the larger turret needed to mount the 85mm gun having enough space for a dedicated loader.
That’s all the time I’ve got. BBT

There is a movie with Jennifer Aniston (can’t remember the title, it was a comedy about a bounty hunter co-starring that guy from 300) where she goes into a tattoo parlor and asks for exactly that same thing. I wonder if she, or the screen writer saw that bartender’s ink.

What’s disturbing honestly is it doesn’t seem to matter what Trump does- making racist statements about Mexican-Americans, smearing McCain’s military service, and making sexist cracks about women and in particular Megyn Kelly. The GOP base eats it all up. That this guy is the frontrunner in the Republican party frankly says a lot about that party. I’d still be shocked if Trump were the nominee but what Trump is showing is that mindset of the Republican base that has been there for years now. He is the racist email you got from your uncle, he is that asshole internet comment on the Yahoo news page, etc. This is what happens when you let people like Limbaugh rather than actual thinking people dominate the discussion in your party. Good riddance GOP. You built this. Stop pretending to be outraged when Donald says sexist crap when you’re the ones who enabled the guy who made “Feminazi” part of our lexicon.

Then again, if I were going to do it, it’d be something no one could see when I’m dressed in normal clothes, sort of like the work done on Ralph Fiennes in Red Dragon.

It must not be as painful as it was years ago.
They should try it the traditional Japanese method that the yakuza use; bamboo needles.
I have three tattoos. One based off the Irish Brigade’s emblem from the Civil War, a nautical compass, and one of the ship that my great grandfather came to the US from Germany on. Tats aren’t for everyone and I think many opinions on them are generational. i don’t begrudge someone who doesn’t have a tattoo. I just hope that people are equally fair to me because I have them. I see mine as being stories on me about who I am. The first one is in tribute to my Irish ancestors and all those who fought for the Union during her darkest hour, the compass is a tribute to my love of the sea, and the last one by far the most personal is for the immigrants in my family especially my Dad’s grandfather who came here when he was only five.
I do have certain personal rules about tattoos and my body. One is I won’t ever go with something corporate. As much as I enjoy the sports teams I root for, you won’t ever see me get an Oriole bird or the Steelers logo. Two, I don’t go with anything that may have a white supremacist connotation I actually considered a Celtic cross briefly at one point but decided against for two reasons- One I’m not particularly religious anymore but two and more important is how it’s been adapted by white supremacist fuckwads. Finally I also like to avoid cliches which is why I avoided getting an anchor or a shamrock. I get they’re not for everyone. ,
Strangely, I have a small tattoo I got by accident. Once upon a time I stepped on a pencil (it went through my sneaker and into my foot without breaking!) and to this day I still have a black dot on the sole of my foot.

Forgive me for not succumbing to the vapors over Trump’s slapfight with Megyn Kelly. With all of the hateful, racist, misogynist crap that comes out of rightwing mouths and is either laughed at or encouraged by their minions, I’m not going to lose a lot of sleep over this one.
Apparently, some of them have chosen this hill on which to plant their flag. Take Lindsey Graham (PLEASE, take him far away from me!)
Graham said Trump’s personal attacks on Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly after she questioned him in Thursday night’s primary debate were “an affront to all women” and undermine the Republican Party’s urgent mission to appeal to more women voters.
“I think we’ve crossed that Rubicon, where his behavior becomes about us, not just him,” Graham said.
…”He’s a bully,” Graham said. “He intimidates people by calling them bad names. Like every other bully, he’ll meet his fate only when good people say, ‘Enough.’ Donald Trump, enough already. Take your ball and go home.”
Trump is an asshole, no question. But this sudden hysteria on the part of Republicans, who have championed Rush Limbaugh’s ugly rhetoric for years, along with that of many, many other assholes, is absurd.

Let’s just ignore that the GOP candidates have pushed misogynistic, racist, and anti-worker provisions. Let’s further ignore that they’ve all raced to be out front on demanding PP be defunded over bogus agitprop videos that show no wrongdoing by PP, let alone illegality by PP.
Also, the GOP has continued to demand the repeal of the ACA without replacing it with anything else - and whatever “plans” the GOP claims to have hatched as a replacement will never see light of day because they can’t even get enough support to make it out of committee controlled by … wait for it .. the GOP. It’s vaporware and malware. That’s the GOP alternative to the ACA.
Meanwhile, the ACA continues bringing down uninsured rates - and @Charles_Gaba has been unpacking the statistics and noise diving into insurance rate hikes (actual instead of proposed), and insured rates. For instance:

That was the biggest drawback of the T34. Commander and gunner should be separate jobs.
The 75mm guns they put on the Panzer IV and the long 50mm on the Panzer IIIs were much better guns. With their superior ergonomics (5 man crew) along with better communications (intercoms plus a radio with an operator in every tank) meant the German tanks were much better.
Their armour left a lot to be desired though.
ETA: As D_F noted the German tanks were less mobile as well. At least until the PzV (Panther) came out, although that had its own problems.

I think it’s for that reason why I have a problem with so called moderates like Graham more so than guys like Trump. Trump of course is an asshole buy he’s really speaking the same language and rhetoric that Limbaugh has used on the airwaves for years about women, liberals, and minorities. If the GOP really were actually sincere about having a problem with racism and sexism, they would have never let Rush gain the amount of influence he has in GOP/conservative circles but they have and the reason is simple, they knew that there was a large subset of the population whose bigotries they could exploit for votes and they didn’t care. But they didn’t count on the country A) growing more culturally diverse in the 21st century and B) that the country has grown more socially liberal too. Now, a decade after George W. Bush won re-election exploiting fear of gay marriage, we live in a country where gay marriage is legal from Alabama to Wyoming and the country by and large accepts the SCOTUS decision affirming that and the GOP still panders to a base afraid of that. I really think this goes back to Nixon and Reagan capitalizing on people’s fear of minorities in the 60’s.

The primitives on Fox are just obsessed with labels for boys and girls. Sure there may be a toy that more girls more prefer or more boys might but I see no reason why a boy can’t enjoy an easy bake oven (hey we love baked goods too) and a girl can’t enjoy say playing with Army men. Fox’s model is so cynical.

The hand-drawn images are bizarre and disturbing. One shows a man locked in a cage while a police officer pours boiling water on his head. Another shows him suspended from the ceiling by handcuffs as an officer jabs his side with an electric baton.
They are amateurishly drawn, with faces showing strangely neutral expressions amid scenes of severe cruelty. Yet they have captured public attention in China for their surprisingly candid depiction of abuse by the police.

LMAO. That’s a howler alright.
Stick to the issues. Empty platitudes that don’t consist of a single policy. Except for hating on minorities, women, and wanting to get rid of the ACA - just like the rest of the GOP.
Some policy.
You mean to say that “I’ll return America to greatness,” isn’t a policy? Or was that a fallacy? Mendacity?
Yeah Bibi. That’s some “crackdown”.
There have been no arrests yet in direct connection with the attack.

People will scream about how many Blacks were killed in Chicago this weekend. I wonder how many family members were killed by good guys with guns over the same weekend. We had 8 in Texas, these two little boys and I bet if you could get national figures some gun nuts would be amazed the numbers might be more than they would think and be just as outrageous as a Chicago weekend.
But for sure, it is way too early to talk about guns. And that’s because it’s way too late to change idiot thinking when it is supported by big bucks.

http://t.co/bkarjO9FG5 founder Drew Curtis files to run for Kentucky governor as an independent http://t.co/cyCk0wkJL7
— Bluegrass Politics (@BGPolitics) August 10, 2015
Speaking at a news conference in front of the Capitol, Drew Curtis said he and his wife are citizen candidates, not politicians.
Curtis said he did not know from which political party he would draw more votes, but predicted that he will win the race and not be a spoiler. He was a Democrat before changing to an independent last year.
Curtis said Conway is beholden to special interests funding his campaign and Bevin can’t remember his policy positions after he says them.
As governor, Curtis said, he would consult with his friends in Silicon Valley and try to use his digital entrepreneurship background to bring broadband Internet access to all parts of Kentucky.
snip
On issues, Curtis said he believes the state has enough money to continue funding an expanded Medicaid program in 2017, but he was not sure about 2020.
He said he would sign into law a measure allowing the use of recreational marijuana in the state if the legislature approved it.
He also said county clerks should “do their job” and issue marriage licenses to all qualifying couples
Curtis said he voted for Democrat Barack Obama for president in 2008 but had forgotten his presidential preference in 2012.
Of this year’s down-ticket candidates for other state constitutional offices, he said he liked lieutenant governor candidate Hampton, saying they had talked about popular fictional characters “Batman” and “The Walking Dead.”
Curtis declined to be pegged as a liberal or conservative, calling himself “an ultra-pragmatist.”

I believe it. Ailes knows the market for bitter old assholes since he worked for the bitterest old asshole of them all in Tricky Dick.
Ailes’ record: Worked for Nixon, invented Rush Limbaugh, invented the first openly partisan “news” network.
What I want on a discussion from guns from a politician. A) A tact acknowledgment that the sole purpose of a gun is to end another life whether that’s a human being or wild game. B) Acknowledging that compared with the UK, Canada, and many of our other Western allies, we have an extremely high rate of gun related deaths both accidental and on purpose. C) That guns shouldn’t be political props. D) That the NRA and GOA should go pound sand and are filled with racist twits. You do that and you’ll get my attention candidates. Oh and E) points out that likening gun control to the Holocaust and Nazism is offensive as fuck and degrading the memory of those killed by the Nazis and their allies.

Paul may have actually polled better had he not strayed so far from the libertarian line. He’s taken so many far right positions that the only thing authentically libertarian about him is his first name.

I still can’t believe a segment of the GOP base believes that Trump i) is a legitimate candidate, ii) “tells it like it is”, and iii) will actually be president.
He is their fantasy of what a “real man” should be; white male privilege personified. And if Trump’s ego demands he run as an independent, millions of them will vote for him in the Fall.

At least Candidate Obama was a state senator and US senator.

A lot can change between now and January but if I’m the establishment and seeing those numbers, I’m definitely worried.
Big difference between 2012 and today is that there really isn’t an ‘inevitable’ candidate, like Romney was. Oh, I know the GOP primary electorate toyed with the idea of a different crazy nutbag every month, and Newt Gingrich twice, Romney was always second. They’d keep coming back to him.
Jeb!? If he was supposed to be the ‘annointed successor’, he’s sure failing to gain any support.

3 of the 5 candidates over 10% have no elected experience. And man Rand Paul is slipping big time.
No experience (or only a couple/few years worth of elected office) only makes a candidate unqualified if they are Dem, all others (ok, only Repubs) it is perfectly ok.
re: #330 Dr. Matt

Very much so. If this is how Trump deals with journalists that don’t kiss his ass, how the hell is he going to deal with a tough foreign leader? Of course, his fuck you attitude too is a virtue. I remember one of my problems with McCain as a candidate was that he had a known bad temper. Now a lot of presidents have had tempers. Most famously Truman but they could control it. Trump is a loose cannon and sadly that’s a positive selling point for him to GOP voters.

When all else fails, harp on about “executive” experience, I remember Carly trying to claim that Palin’s 1 1/2 years as governor of Alaska made her more qualified than Biden even though Biden had been in the Senate 35 years in 2008.

Right. Bush is sort of next in line but unlike Romney or McCain before, he has never run for President before. Romney and McCain’s past runs for president defintiely gave them a leg up over their competitors and the ability to do the next in line thing. Jeb frankly would probably be doing even worse if he didn’t have his father’s name and connections. .

Rush always has that one Republican that he hates. Your lucky governor is that Republican. If I were Kasich, I’d wear it as a badge of honor that a pig like Rush hates me but unfortunately knowing how politicians are granted I don’t know Kasich like you do, I’d expect him to pander to try to curry favor with the dittohead crowd.

They like to say being a Senator is just voting on shit which is stupid. In the Senate, you have to pass legislation and work with people. I understand why people prefer governors but legislative experience has some virtues that executive experience does not. My ideal candidate in 2008 was someone like Bill Richardson who had executive, legislative, and even diplomatic experience. Now the other side of the battle is you have to be charismatic and likable and Bill wasn’t that.

It’s sort of like Romney’s business experience. Someone like Steve Jobs had business experience I’d want in a leader since Apple and Jobs were and are innovators. Mitt’s business at Bain was mostly focused on helping other businesses cut expenditures (read people and wages.). And then you have Donald who has had to declare for bankruptcy several times and Carly who by all accounts did a terrible job running HP.
Now that said I want my president to have some form of elected experience. I think we only elected two people ever who were never elected to any office- Grant and Eisenhower. And they had been key generals during two of the most important wars this nation ever fought. Not including Washington since I think he technically did have some elected experience but if he did not, I’d qualify him in with the same qualifier for Grant and Ike. Our other general-presidents like Harrison and Jackson had prior elected experience. I think Jackson had even been Senator from Tennessee. I know he and Harrison were at least House members.

It’s ironic that they’re babbling about Trump “telling it like it is” since that’s Gov. Bridgegate’s campaign slogan. That’s got to piss Christie off.

The most conservative Governor in the country 2020:
Are you going to pick me to run your law firm even though I’ve never been a practicing lawyer? The chief of surgery even though I’ve never gotten my license to practice medicine? You need someone with elected experience so you have someone who understands how government works. Running a country is different from running a business.I wouldn’t want some politician who has never been in business to run a company just like that and I think it’s reasonable of me to expect the same of a businessman turned politician.

It’s mostly 95% footage from what we’ve seen - except for the first couple of seconds, which looks quite interesting.
Here’s an article from io9: io9.com
One thing I’ve noted - this film has Lawrence Kasdan credited as screenplay writer, along with J.J. Abrams. Of course, Kasdan co-wrote the screenplay for The Empire Strikes Back along with the late Leigh Brackett so that’s a positive sign.

I think he’s saying that Jeb was the most conservative governor during his time as governor of Florida. I don’t know a lot about other Republican governors of that era but Jeb did oppose same sex couples being to adopt and he did do that Terry Schiavo thing. I don’t see Walker as being Erick’s guy though. I think Walker is more the Wall Street Koch candidate. Erick in my observations seems to be more a cultural warrior than a coddle the very wealthy type. I mean he believes in that too don’t get me wrong but he seems to like cultural warriors.

For some dumb reason in politics, we love the plucky outsider who hates the government and doesn’t trust it yet wants to be a part of it. I’ve never gotten that subset of populism and it frankly is why I don’t trust populism as an ideology.

I’m honestly not surprised at all about how hard Christie has fallen. I really think Bridgegate or not or the embrace of Obama after Sandy, he wasn’t a strong candidate. This may sound weird but I always thought he was too “urban” for GOP national politics. Successful GOP candidates usually have a suburban or rural vibe to them. Christie is a loud mouth from Jersey. Again I know it sounds silly but that was always my perception about why Christie would flop in a GOP primary. I know other things happened to diminish his star but I really never thought his star was particularly that shiny.

I don’t particularly care how much political experience they have. I care that they have a firm grasp of the issues, especially in foreign policy.
