Marco Rubio Now Says He’s Against Abortion Without Exceptions for Rape or Life of the Mother

Politics • Views: 65,691

It’s a mark of how extreme the conservative movement has become that Republican candidates for President are now saying they’re against abortion in all cases without exception, even for rape or when the mother’s life is in danger. The latest one to come out and say this is Marco Rubio — even though he previously said he did support exceptions.

In his usual weasely fashion, though, he’s still trying to have it both ways.

Rubio said he recognized that women have the right to make decisions about their own bodies, but that clashes with “the right of a human being to live.”

“I don’t say it’s easy,” Rubio said. “But when asked to make a decision between two very hard circumstances, I personally reached the decision, if I’m going to err, I’m going to err on the side of life.”

For Rubio, taking a bold stance against exceptions could hurt his standing with women. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee have also said they do not support abortion in any cases.

One of many, many reasons I will never vote Republican again.

I understand being personally opposed to abortion. I don’t understand being willing to let women die over that belief.

Rubio is allowed to make a personal decision, but women need to just STFU.

Marco Rubio always has been and always will be a pandering little weasel. And this is yet another reason why it’s a joke to call Rubio a “moderate.” Moderates don’t oppose abortion in all cases like he does.

That kind of belief like those of the RCC bishops who excommunicated doctors in Brazil for performing an abortion on a 10 year old girl.

Or the woman who died in Ireland.

I mean really — if your “ethics” tell you that it’s okay for a pregnant woman to die instead of intervening in her medical emergency or that a 10 year old who’d been repeatedly raped by her stepfather should give birth, then your “ethics” suck. You’re a terrible excuse for a human being.

When complications develop the situation can deteriorate very quickly. There is no time to go back and forth second-guessing legal conditions.

The GOP ceased being a relevant national party after the George W. Bush debacle. The demographics have been turning against them and will continue to do so. But the real danger they pose is at the state and local level, where they dominate.

I think we’re going to see outright bans like this - without a rape exception, or one to protect the life of the mother - from states with Scott Walker types in the Governor’s mansion over the next decade or so.

I was just thinking about that since I remember DF correctly telling PLL not to be too hard on a woman friend who is pro life since that’s her belief. Arrested for Having a Miscarriage? 7 Appalling Instances Where Pregnant Women Were Criminalized
alternet.org

A pregnant woman in Iowa fell down a flight of stairs and went to the hospital. The hospital reported her to the police who arrested her for “attempted fetal homicide.”
rhrealitycheck.org

“…Although Taylor was in the first part of her second trimester, the
nurse noted on her chart that she was in the first week of her third
trimester - the time when, under Iowa’s fetal homicide law, a violent act perpetrated against a pregnant woman could be considered criminal. The nurse called over the doctor who then called the police - which is when Christine Taylor found herself arrested and sent to jail for admitting uncertainty about her pregnancy and fear about raising three children on her own.”

Bring it on. That kind of stuff will help with Democratic voter turnout, and should widen the gender gap nationwide. In the 2012 race, that was about 10%. If it widens to 15 or 20%, that would doom the Republicans in the POTUS race, and have significant further effects down-ballot.

The changing demographics of this country is going to be the right as we know it’s death knell IMO. Not saying the right will go away but I expect by the time I’m in my 50’s in a couple decades that the right as we know it will be different than the present right. Cruz pulls this same nonsense re: abortion and lives mattering, except that he’s a supporter of the death penalty, so not all lives matter so much. He just cares more about the life of a fetus than he does the mother. Or anyone who is outside the womb.

The GOP is the pro-birth party, because they could care less what happens once you’re outside the womb. Screw health care, food, and the general welfare. The GOP just wants to force women to carry to term with no intention of providing any assistance or alternative to carrying to term a fetus that the mother doesn’t want, or where birth control failed (if it was even obtainable).

Katie McDonough at Fusion pointed out, Rubio’s answer was a “roundabout” personhood argument.

By saying that the Constitution already entitles fertilized eggs and fetuses to “the protection of our laws” and that Congress merely needs to “pass a law” stating that “says all human life at every stage of its development is worthy of protection,” Rubio seems to be arguing for a personhood bill such as that proposed by fellow GOP presidential candidate Rand Paul in the Senate. (Personhood proponents believe that there is a loophole in Roe v. Wade that allows a ban on all abortions and some common forms of birth control to be accomplished legislatively, rather than through a constitutional amendment.)

Poor, abused Erick Erickson whines his heart out when the people he cultivates turn on him.

What happens when you rescind an invitation to Donald Trump? Well, my RedState email is suddenly maxed out due to a flood of very angry emails. I’ve been called queer, an n-word lover, Megyn Kelly has been referred to as the c-word. My office phone line’s voicemail has also gotten maxed out with angry phone calls.

Last night, people were leaving voicemails in my hotel room — having somehow managed to navigate the hotel switch board. At 3 o’clock this morning I had to unplug the phones in my room. My twitter feed is unusable. It’s just angry people, many of them very recently created accounts of people following few others and with little to no followers. But I can’t interact with much of anyone because of the timeline.

Greta Van Susteren exacerbated it earlier today with her tweet piling on me, which brought in her followers on top of Donald Trump’s. They could not really distinguish that I had apologized for things I had said and Trump just changed his story. Facebook is much the same way. RedState suffered a denial of service attack throughout the night and into this morning.

Yesterday, my wife and kids had to pack up and leave the hotel because the few angry people were very loud and vocal as my kids were present. The kids got upset and scared so were unable to see the Gathering or go to last night’s party. The party itself was fine. Only two people told me they disagreed and they characterized it as “understanding but disappointed.” It’s the whirlwind of hate right now, but at least voicemail is maxed out and email is crashed. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Rescinding my invitation to Donald Trump was the right thing to do.

Even if the fetus is a person with a right to vote, carry a gun and drink alcohol, it still wouldn’t have the right to demand that another person (the mother) provide bodily fluids and the use of her organs for the benefit of the fetus. Unless the laws are changed to require that for people who have already been born. (Hey, Marco, your mandatory blood donation is at 2:30 tomorrow…)

Marco’s no moderate. As for DF, I agree with you, his sole reason seems to be “I vote Republican” and I recall seeing him say he was afraid his father and best friend would be angry with him if he didn’t. In that way, I feel bad for him. I understand not wanting to disappoint someone but if DF’s principles are moving away from the GOP and I really really hope that we have persuaded him on some points (I think he accepts SSM now for instance) than he shouldn’t vote for that party. Well, just in the last day or so Dark expressed his admiration for Marco because he is young and moderate. And, I don’t think Dark is for outlawing abortion in rape and medical circumstances to safe the bearers life. So, he is now faced with what almost everyone tries to tell him…Marco is just another pandering GOP presidential candidate.

I know he will vote Republican anyway…but his excuses are running out to make it seems like there is a legit reason to support this pack of clowns. He is almost down to “I vote Republican” as his sole reason. There can’t be much else!

I have never seen anything other than “I vote Republican” from DF. Did I miss some real attempt at justification?

Let’s face facts. There is no justification for voting Republican that makes sense unless the person doing the justifying is a wingnut that is properly represented by the GOP as it presently is.

Poor, abused Erick Erickson whines his heart out when the people he cultivates turn on him.

I’d feel bad for him but then I remember that this is the guy who called Wendy Davis “abortion barbie.” I mean I am glad he called out Trump but the guy’s a hypocritical weasel. Why the hell they are calling him a “n-word lover” and by the way Erick, still in denial about the racism that is dominant in your idelogy eh?

I think what Art means is DF votes Republican because he feels its his obligation. I know he has principles but I really think part of why he continues to pull that lever for the GOP even though he knows the party’s gone bezerk is some misguided loyalty to the party. Maybe he has fond memories of attending a Reagan or Bush for president rally as a kid and it’s given him a starry eyed vision of what the GOP is. I try not to push too hard on him since I think he’s a genuinely nice guy who does listen to other points of view and does take a lot of flack here from people who think his party is garbage.

Billionaire Needs Your Money

Dear Friend,

Are you ready to Make America Great Again?

Since I announced my candidacy for the Republican nomination for president I have soared to first place in the polls, defying the mainstream media and the GOP establishment.

I am rising in the polls because of you — and the fact that I am offering the American people an alternative to the inept career politicians who talk big but never produce results.

I have a long track record of producing big results. Very big results.

Frankly, I am running for president because I hate seeing what is happening to America — the country I love so much.

I am sick and tired of China and Mexico and all other countries beating us at the negotiating table — getting one-sided trade deals from Washington officials.

They have been letting these countries rip off our jobs, killing our potential for economic growth.

Let’s face it, America is in deep trouble.

We are a laughingstock around the globe as our incompetent leaders like Obama and Hillary Clinton get outmaneuvered.

Our economy is a disaster. (Yet the stock market is in record territory again)

I think the American people are ready for some hard truths.

You know I call it the way I see it.

Thanks to Obama, the American dream is dead.

But I can bring it back — bigger and better and stronger than ever before. (He can resurrect the dead?)

Weeks ago the political establishment went crazy when I pointed out the fact that some illegal aliens from Mexico, being pushed into our country by the Mexican government, are bringing crime, drugs and murder to the United States.

The media tried to smear me, claiming I was “racist” and that I attacked the Mexican people.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

I forced the media to focus on a number of horrific crimes in which U.S. citizens were killed by illegal immigrants who got into the country because our borders are so porous practically anyone can walk into the United States.

In the face of this media onslaught, my poll numbers actually went up.

I even pulled well ahead of Jeb Bush, the supposed “front-runner.”

Bush is a weak and ineffective leader who would merely preside over the continued decline of this country. If he gets the nomination, we lose in 2016.

I am very critical of John McCain’s record in the U.S. Senate. He has done little to help veterans.

John McCain has been in the Senate for 30 years and worked closely with Senator Bernie Sanders to pass legislation to ensure that no one was held responsible for the scandal at Obama’s Veterans Administration, in which over 1,000 of our veterans died waiting for medical care.

Ironically many of these veterans died in the VA hospital in Phoenix, Arizona — McCain’s home state!

It’s just like Benghazi — incompetent and pathetic officials screw up, then Americans die … and no one in Washington is held responsible.

My concern is for all those men and women who served this country.(Sure it is)

As president, I would build the finest Veterans Hospital system in the world where our veterans would have universal access — and I will do it for far less in tax dollars than we are spending now on our disgraceful broken Veterans Administration health care system.

The political establishment is in shock over the way I have taken the lead in the presidential race — and they are scared to death.

I am not afraid — I know Americans like you are with me.

Because my campaign will be funded mostly with my own money, the Washington insiders know that the lobbyists and special interests will have no influence in a Trump administration.

The special interests know you can’t “buy” me.

As I have traveled across the country I have met thousands of Americans who want to join our crusade. Actually, some people are calling it a movement.

The media, however, wants to claim that I have no grass-roots support.

I want to prove them wrong. I am asking you to stand with me and join with me today.

I believe so much in this campaign and that we can Make America Great Again, that I will match dollar-for-dollar every dollar donated by people like you.

If you will send a contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250 or more I will personally match whatever gift you give.

If you can send $500, $1,000 or more, I will also match that.

Show your support by Going Here Now.

I want to show the liberal media that not since the days of Ronald Reagan has there been such a grass-roots movement of people ready to transform our party and our country.

My #1 goal is to create the greatest economic boom in American history, to unleash the incredible spirit of free enterprise in this country — get America moving again!

I have been tremendously blessed in this country.

I want all American families to share in the great economic opportunities this country offers.

I am very rich and I created something very special.

I want to make you and the American people rich.

I have no doubt the liberal media and the GOP establishment will continue to attack me.

But, make no mistake, I will never back down or apologize in the fight to make America great again.

Stand with me today and send a powerful message to the establishment by supporting my campaign.

Please rush me your answer today — Going Here Now.

Sincerely

Donald J. Trump

P.S. I so strongly believe in what I am doing that I am willing to match every dollar you contribute to my campaign. Jeb Bush just raised over $100 million from Washington insiders. His donors are not donating to me because they can’t own me. Show America you want to join me in taking back Washington — Go Here Now.
Paid for by Donald J. Trump for President, Inc.

I can’t claim to obviously know his father or friend but if they would treat him like crap over a vote, I think that’s pretty dickish behavior. Two of my best friends are people who have radically different ways of looking at the world than I do. I don’t let politics define my friendships. On the other hand, people can’t always explain why they vote the way they do. My late sister-in-law just couldn’t make herself vote for a Democrat. She was a fine, kind, intelligent and reasonably liberal woman, but she could neither vote Democratic, nor explain why she just couldn’t do it.
DF may change over time. He may truly be voting GOP because he respects his father, or that may just be a way to verbalize why he does what he does. Whatever. I still like the guy.

I wouldn’t even have to think about it. I’d be like “You’re my wife/daughter/sister/cousin/mother, of course.” I remember my grandmother who is probably one of the most religious people I know saying she always had a problem with those opposed to abortion in the life of the mother especially if that mother already had children. Her thoughts were “So, you’d make the other children lose their mother?” Rubio may be a young man politically, hell he was still in high school when I was born but his ideology is no different from the clerics of the distant past.

that reminds me, I remember a politician (I want to say Gingrich) saying years ago that the political winds start in California and blow east. The Republicans have been more or less meaningless here since the late 90s. Last year, the GOP lost all 7 statewide races - the closest race was 53.6-46-.4 under our new open primary system. Since 1998, Republicans have won all of three statewide races that didn’t involve Arnold (who essentially ran as a moderate Democrat in 2006) - that makes the Dems 37 of 41 in statewide races since 1998 (including US Senate races but excluding the recall).

It’s taken a while, but the national GOP has started to realize that this is what awaits them nationally if they don’t get the crazies in line… unfortunately for them, they have been using the crazies to win.

I predict that “Republican” will be such a term in a hundred years, perhaps less. “You damned thieving republican, Cthulhu curse you!”

Their problem is that the few places they are growing as a party i.e. West Virginia, the only state I can think of that went for Dukakis but not Obama are places that are shrinking. Now you have the Democrats who have been gains in suburbia. Obama doesn’t win the state of Virginia twice without strong turnout in Northern Virginia. I remember Clinton running close to Bush I and Dole here. Now a days Democrats dominate here. Plus Dems have in part due to Republican dickhead behavior done everything possible to have a strong percentage of the Hispanic vote in the years to come. I don’t know if Latinos will ever favor the Democratic party the way African-Americans do but if the Democrats can continue to get 66-70% of the Latino vote in Presidential years, that’s really bad news for the GOP. It may not be an high percentage as the African-American vote but the Hispanic population is growing. The GOP also has lost the Asian vote which is another growing demo.

The only way to confer personhood on a non-viable life form is to remove the personhood of the creator and carrier of it.

They almost never mention the woman, except to say she should have kept her legs closed. It’s all about abortion providers and fetuses. This is where the language about ‘black genocide’ comes from - remove the women from the equation. All you are is a passive vessel, whose body, health, even life are expendable in service of the fetus. You don’t get a choice in this, even if you had no choice in the conception in the first place.

Groups such as the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Phoenix Fire Department and various hospitals reach out to Hispanic and immigrant families, but those programs have limited reach and funding. Those running them say they struggle to find and train enough Spanish-speaking car-seat technicians who can show families how to install and use car seats properly.

Yeah I do too. I wish he’d know that pretty much every Republican he supports for office will do something that will screw people especially women over. I remember reading a few months back about how Ratner, the governor that he so strongly supported against the “big bad Chicago Dem machine” was pushing for cuts to autism research or something like that on Autism day. I asked him about that. No response. I am with you. Definitely stopped holding my breath after that. I just am not too hard since I know the individual. Bring it on. That kind of stuff will help with Democratic voter turnout, and should widen the gender gap nationwide. In the 2012 race, that was about 10%. If it widens to 15 or 20%, that would doom the Republicans in the POTUS race, and have significant further effects down-ballot.

That’s why there has to be massive efforts to get Democrats to vote in midterm elections. Because right now, the apathy from the left and center-left in these elections is staggering. RWNJ’s just walk in and take power.

I think we’re going to see outright bans like this - without a rape exception, or one to protect the life of the mother - from states with Scott Walker types in the Governor’s mansion over the next decade or so.

Any candidate who wants to win the nomination will have to come out strongly and clearly in favor of a total ban, and neither the GOP base nor the Democrats will let him backpedal on that issue.

This is kind of cool:

The toys, called Project Mc², are—believe it or not—the creation of MGA Entertainment, the same company that makes Bratz.

The dolls, with names like Adrienne Attoms and Bryden Bandwedth, were designed to have “different body types and faces to show that not everyone is blonde and tall,” says Isaac Larian, CEO of MGA. Each comes with a do-it-at-home science experiment. Bandwedth’s kit shows kids how to make a glow stick necklace from household ingredients—with apologies to adults who have to clean up afterward—while Attoms’ kit lets girls create an erupting volcano with items found in the kitchen. The dolls, priced around $15 each, will be available from major retailers like Walmart and Target, as well as Amazon.

The company has clearly made note of the success of products like the Frozen dolls, which outsold Barbie last Christmas—thanks in part to marketing synergy with the juggernaut movie of the same name. The Project Mc² dolls are launching alongside an eponymous three-episode TV series, available for streaming on Netflix. The series features four brilliant, science-skilled girls who are recruited to join a top-secret spy organization. The series features education advocate and actress Danica McKellar, best known for playing Winnie Cooper on the popular television show The Wonder Years. The brand will also feature YouTube shorts and original content on AwesomenessTV and DreamworksTV. The Project Mc² app will be available in September and the company will also be releasing short videos on YouTube.

I think Vladimir Putin should just stop the charade, claim American citizenship, and announce for President. His official bio says he was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) where his father was in the Soviet Navy and his mother worked in a factory.
It would be easy, and very convincing to many on the right, to declare that this was simply a KGB legend and that his parents, Vladimir S. and Maria, were in fact undercover agents working in Los Angeles. They were tasked with gathering information on the local defense industry and making occasional pay-outs to Hollywood liberals. Little Vlad was born there, in a hospital now closed and whose records have disappeared, on 7 October 1952. This would make him an anchor baby (like Trump) and an American citizen by birth. After all, the righties claim, didn’t Obama misrepresent his birthplace too? Putin’s case is simply a mirror image of that. He is coming clean on it, unlike the evil Kenyan.

The right wing response to do that would be to whine about “political correctness” and how everyone ought to speak English. Really having programs like your department had is not only practical but it saves lives.

Because not all lives matter. Some matter more than others. If you’re a minority, and you are not fluent in English, your life simply doesn’t matter as much. That’s what this says.

I’ve had disillusioned friends ask me why I voted Obama again in 2012 and my answer was pretty simple. He’s given me more of what I’ve want than he what I did not wanted when I voted for him in 2008. I wanted a president that would support the rights of all our citizens to have marriage equality. Obama may have started out against SSM but his justice department fought for marriage equality pretty much from the start. I wanted a President that would try to get more health care for more Americans. The administration did that. I wanted a president that wouldn’t take his eyes off Bin Laden. And sure enough Obama got him too. Did I get an overwhelming majority of what I wanted accomplished? No but I felt with Obama that I had a president that had the presence of mind to attempt to accomplish those things.

The Older Boy’s Girlfriend’s Mother is a photographer. She was out taking pics with a bigass lens like that, out around the Sutro Baths. Some guys followed her home, busted her window while she was in her own driveway, and stole the camera.

One thing they hadn’t considered was that photographers, like a lot of other visual artists, have an eye for detail, which makes identifying the perps a lot easier.

I once cornered a born again conservative in a conversation about abortion and asked him straight out if he’d make it illegal. There was a little pause, but he said “Yes.” But to me, that pause spoke volumes. It told me that very few people ever forced him to state it that plainly, given all of the ramifications involved (mainly arresting doctors and the women seeking the abortions.)

I just want to hear one of these religion-addled monsters like Walker or Rubio to just be that fucking plain: if a woman needed an abortion to survive, they would stand by and let her die. Maybe intimidate the doctor and their staff with imprisonment if they performed the procedure.

This is some real fucked up, third-world dictatorship nastiness that the GOP tolerates and promotes in its ranks. It’s also why it’s getting harder and harder for me to take a “To each his own” attitude when people support these asswipes.

This will be my first non prime lens, which is kind of ridiculous. At first I was going to maintain my primes only absolutist ideology, but then I saw that this would do most of what the other primes in its range offered that was of any real use to me. I don’t need the DC of the 135 f/2, because that’s primarily a (amazingly good) portrait lens, and I remembered how much I hate people. I’d like to have the 1:1 macro ability of the 200 f/4, but with the d810 I have pixels to sacrifice. I may still get the 200 macro down the line, because it focuses so damned close, but the level 2 VR is what sold me on this zoom. The thing is just amazingly versatile.

Ask Sen. Rubio if he’s cool with watching his wife bleed to death from an ectopic pregnancy.

Exhibit Uno

Scott DesJarlais

DesJarlais was considered one of the most vulnerable Congressmen, because of revelations in October 2012 that he had prescribed drugs to a patient with whom he was having an affair and had pressured his former wife and former mistress to have several abortions. He was re-elected in 2012 with a reduced majority.[14] Despite these vulnerabilities, DesJarlais managed to hold his seat.[15][16]

The life of neither the wife or mistress was threatened.

The contrast between coastal and inland California was pretty extreme even back in the Sixties. “See Turlock and die,” was current then.

Turlock has a lot in common with Lubbock TX though it is quite a bit smaller. The two cities were incorporated within a few months of each other, in 1908-09, and both are the centers of large agricultural regions. They have something else in common, too:

In the 1930s Turlock was cited by Ripley’s Believe It or Not as having the most churches per capita in the U.S.; this had partly to do with the variety of ethnic churches, which were established for the relatively small settler population.

It is not true, as Natalie Maines said, that Lubbock has more churches than trees, but it does have about as many churches (223) as bars (230). It probably does have more orange traffic cones and barrels than trees, since eternal road obstruction; er, construction; is a notable civic activity. As I have mentioned before, one Lubbock intersection (Quaker and Erskine) has been under construction or repair continuously since 1990. Law enforcement, the health department, parks, and storm drainage all wither and die from reduced budgets, but the road crews are out en masse every day digging and grading to some mysterious end.
Btw, Quaker Avenue, a five lane main thoroughfare, has one stretch where there are 6 red lights in one mile.

How did something like this happen? Aren’t all of RedStaters people of great Values and Love Freedom and Liberty? Maybe these are all False Flag and Democrat libtard plants.

You know, I cannot remember any of my friends being against social security when I was in my 20s.

This is what happens when you have the GOP scaring everyone about the program for 30+ years. All many of the younger folks have heard is the negatives. Well, that and the fact many of them have never heard the stories about what things were like before social security.

I guess they never saw all the good while they were hearing all the bad. Maybe they need to check around with some of their older relatives and get some real stories instead of GOP scare tactics.

My dad’s mom really lost it at the end. Dad was visiting her at the home and she leaned in and told him she was glad she married him. Made me sad knowing that my late grandfather was the love of her life. They really had the most beautiful love story of any couple that I know of. re: #286 HappyWarrior

My dad’s mom really lost it at the end. Dad was visiting her at the home and she leaned in and told him she was glad she married him. Made me sad knowing that my late grandfather was the love of her life. They really had the most beautiful love story of any couple that I know of. Met in middle school, he treated her as his equal, and they got to visit their ancestral homes together in retirement.

Dad’s mother lost her memory in a similar way to Dad. Late in the process, he went to visit his parents, and his Dad said, “Grace, look who’s come to see you!”

She said, “It’s my father!”

Tough. I think about my Nana constantly especially after starting the tree. Got in touch with one of her sistsr’s kids the other day. Really want to hear stories about her as a girl, I never knew her sisters and brother and his mom would have memories of his grandmother (my g grandma) having been older when she died. I just hated seeing Nana like that. She was sharp in her younger years- my grandfather’s personal secretary and made two photo albums specifically for me.

wingnuts hunker down and draw up program cards:

Moving forward look for Carly Fiorina to take the point on attacking Donald Trump from behind. Carly will carefully look for opportunities to aim arrows into soft tissue. The media will enhance, highlight and paint the target.

Remember Carly is in this race at the behest of the GOPe strategy to add womens enlightenment to the race, and provide gender fracturing. While Carly likes to paint herself as an outsider, she worked for the McCain election in 08′ and the Romney election in ‘12. Carly is every bit of establishment as the professional political class she claims to rail against.

Carly Fiorina supports: “The Dream Act”, Man-made Global Warming, Carbon Tax/Trading proposals, and Common Core ed. In addition she’s aligned with Jeb’s position on immigration. Yes, you’ll note these are all U.S. Chamber of Commerce specific policy agenda items. That is not accidental.

The US CoC legislative initiatives above along with retention of ObamaCare and expansion of foreign trade deals, and Wall Streets interests via Federal Reserve policy (interest rates etc.), are what McConnell / Boehner et al are being paid to protect.

To summarize who is controlling who, and who is really trying to get to the White House via an actual honest run.

The control group is: Candidate = Jeb Bush. Facilitated by: Rick Perry, Chris Christie, John Kasich, Lindsey Graham, George Pataki, Jim Gilmore, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina and most importantly, Marco Rubio.

The honest, but still influenced, GOP candidates are: Scott Walker, Ted Cruz and Bobby Jindal.

The goal of Tom Donohue (Wall Street) who orchestrates the control group - is to keep Walker, Cruz and Jindal from victory. They represent a threat to the legislative priorities.

They also create an uncomfortable situation of excuse removal for the GOP. That’s essentially like sunlight on stuff they do not want sunlight upon. Example ObamaCare:

The GOP blamed Dem congress for ObamaCare, saying they were in the minority. So we have them the house. The GOP then blamed Harry Reid’s blocking strategy in the Senate. So we gave them the Senate. Now the GOP blame executive veto for keeping ObamaCare. If Walker, Cruz or Jindal get in the White House, the GOP will have lost their excuse. All of Donohue’s legislative priorities must be protected, including the retention of ObamaCare.

Erick, Son of Erick is bleating again:

Yes, I Said Dumb Stuff About Women, but I’m Not Running for President

Erick Erickson drew a line in the sand by disinviting Donald Trump from the RedState gathering over his “blood” comments about Megyn Kelly. But that only drew attention to Erickson’s own history of questionable statements about women, about which Fox News’ Neil Cavuto confronted him today.

“You’re one to judge,” the Fox host said.

And Erickson explained: “I have said a lot of dumb things in my life that I’ve apologized for. There are a number of them I’ve apologized for. I think the difference between me and Donald Trump is I’m not running for president and I did apologize, not just change my story.”

He said that if Trump can’t take a simple question from Kelly without lashing out like that, he’d have a difficult time dealing with America’s enemies if he were president.

Hmmmm.
1980: Bush I, lost to Reagan, Mondale renominated
1984: Bush I, renominated, Ferraro wasn’t a primary opponent
1988: Quayle, not a primary opponent, Bentsen, not a primary opponent
1992: Quayle, renominated, Gore, not a primary opponent but had ran four years prior
1996: Kemp, I think he may have ran for president, Gore, renominated
2000: Cheney, not a primary opponent, Lieberman, not a primary opponent
2004: Cheney, renominated, Edwards, a primary opponent and Kerry’s direct runner up.
2008: Palin, not a primary opponent, Biden, a primary opponent.
2012: Ryan, not a primary opponent, Biden, renominated.
So mostly not that often but more common though it seems with Democrats.

I expect the VP to be out of left field like it’s been for the most part. Cheney was a surprise in 2000. I don’t remember 1996 but I would think that Kemp having only been a House of Reps member and I think Cabinet Secretary was a surprise. Palin definitely was. Ryan wasn’t a huge one but considering he wasn’t a governor or in the senate, to that extent he was. I think they’ll go with some sweetheart of the base and someone relatively young but sounds like an old man just like they did with Palin and Ryan especially if Bush is the nominee. If the nominee is say Walker, I expect an older “elder statesman” type. No idea who Trump would pick lol.

Ah, the joy of right wingers claiming that they’re all for the environment because the EPA screwed up a cleanup of a mine (that was laden with all kinds of bad stuff that the GOP would rather we not actually clean up in the first place). It ended up contaminating the Animas River.

So, of course James Woods has to chime in that the media attention is a fraction of what it would have been had it happened under Bush.

The GOP has fought to reduce the power of the EPA to do cleanups and claiming that the EPA is stifling businesses. So there’s not a little amount of irony here. One has to wonder if the sequester has reduced EPA manpower/personnel with experience to do this kind of work, meaning that potentially less experienced personnel were working on the mine.

The pollution that the EPA was trying to clean up wasn’t created by the EPA, but a mining company that piled the stuff up.

And the GOP has sought to defund the EPA from time to time too.

Who later served as Reagan’s labor secretary. They love to talk about how the Southern Democrats mostly opposed civil rights but they don’t tell you that the GOP started doing well in the South by running to the right of Democrats on Civil Rights. And of course that Mr. Dixiecrat, Strom Thurmond became a Republican.

These events are a waste of money and resources that would be better spent on housing and basic infrastructure. Not sports venues.

Sheriff taunts clergy keeping vigil at jail where Sandra Bland died: ‘Go back to the church of Satan’

An United Method Church pastor in Texas said on Monday that the Waller County sheriff told her to “go back to the church of Satan” while she was keeping vigil outside the jail where Sandra Bland died.

Hannah Adair Bonner explained on her Twitter feed that she went to the Waller County Jail on Monday just like she had for 27 days since Bland’s death. While she was sitting outside the jail, Sheriff R. Glenn Smith decided to confront her.

Cell phone video uploaded by Bonner shows Smith walking by and asking if she needs his business card, presumably so he can be correctly identified.

“Why don’t you go back to the church of Satan that you run?” Smith asks as he walks into the jail.

re: #21 wrenchwench

If a woman’s life is in danger, and there is readily available medical care that will save her life, and a decision is made to withhold that care, I think that’s called ‘murder’.

We all know that the RWNJs don’t give a shit about what we think, because, to them, the situation you speak of (that is likely more common than they like to let on) is just “God’s will” manifesting itself and that their worldview is that even having the option of abortion subverts that.

There’s a great line in Porky’s 2: The Next Day, where drama teacher Mrs. Morris (Pee Wee’s mom) tells off Rev. Bubba Flavel after he and the Righteous Flock get the drama club’s Shakespeare production (temporarily) shut down for “indecency” with this:

You’re a hypocrite! You care nothing about matters of the spirit, you just want to control other people’s lives!

Unfortunately, in life as in art, it’s (still) a very true sentiment.
