Donald Trump Has Released an Immigration Policy Plan and It’s Completely Insane

Donald Trump has actually released an immigration policy plan, which is more than any of the other candidates have done.

However.

It’s absolutely insane. Xenophobia completely off the scale. We’re talking batshit, cubed.

Let me summarize this bizarre fear-mongering screed.

Trump insists he’s going to build a gigantic impenetrable wall along the southern border, and he’s going to make Mexico pay for it. How does he plan to do that?

Mexico must pay for the wall and, until they do, the United States will, among other things: impound all remittance payments derived from illegal wages; increase fees on all temporary visas issued to Mexican CEOs and diplomats (and if necessary cancel them); increase fees on all border crossing cards - of which we issue about 1 million to Mexican nationals each year (a major source of visa overstays); increase fees on all NAFTA worker visas from Mexico (another major source of overstays); and increase fees at ports of entry to the United States from Mexico [Tariffs and foreign aid cuts are also options]. We will not be taken advantage of anymore.

Trump plans to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, and he plans to implement this insane scheme by tripling the number of ICE agents, presumably because he’s going to need a lot of enforcers to round up all the families he needs to deport.

And last but pretty damned far from least, Trump says he’s basically going to either repeal or ignore the 14th amendment to the US Constitution, because he’s planning to end birthright citizenship. His plan doesn’t spell out exactly how he’d accomplish this, probably because he knows it’s never going to happen in the real world.

In fact, none of this is ever going to happen in the real world, and if Trump becomes president and actually tries to make it happen, it would involve turning the United States into a full-blown police state.

But I guess that prospect is attractive to conservatives.

And one final note about Trump’s plan: to back up his claims, he links to not one, not two, but six articles at the far right xenophobia-peddling website Breitbart “News.”

This has to be one of the most disturbing policy statements ever published by a Republican, and that, my friends, is really saying something.

As I said downstairs, a lot of those 11 million aren’t brown people…

What’s scary is not the plan itself, it’s the number of Americans who will look at it and say “This makes total sense!” That’s what scares the ever-loving shit out of me.

He knows what his target audience wants to hear, and they are lapping it up. And if he drops out, they are going to demand that other candidates adopt a similar position.

Igor Darkman explains the Trump appeal to the masses:

His supporters agreed with everything he didn’t say. His ability to speak his mind without saying anything captures the populace. His carefully chosen unspoken words resonate with many.

Exactly, Trump is so badly poisoning the well that there’s virtually no way that whoever wins the nomination will stand a chance in the general election.

That’s why I think Jeb is doomed. I don’t think Jeb has the heart to go absolutely dickish on immigration like Romney did. I don’t like Jeb at all but I can’t see him going full wingnut on immigration.

Let’s go through some of these points:

Mexico must pay for the wall and, until they do, the United States will, among other things: impound all remittance payments derived from illegal wages;

By creating a government bureaucracy that will analyse all money transfer payments to Mexico and verify their legality?

increase fees on all temporary visas issued to Mexican CEOs and diplomats (and if necessary cancel them);

Because none of these businessmen or diplomats is doing any sort of work that benefits or profits the US, right?

increase fees on all border crossing cards - of which we issue about 1 million to Mexican nationals each year (a major source of visa overstays); increase fees on all NAFTA worker visas from Mexico (another major source of overstays); and increase fees at ports of entry to the United States from Mexico [Tariffs and foreign aid cuts are also options].

Because again, none of these workers is doing anything to increase earnings and profits of American countries, they are just coming here to mooch.

We will not be taken advantage of anymore.

Because again, we derive NO BENEFIT WHATSOEVER from allowing Mexicans into the USA, which is why we need them to build a wall in the first place…

What with the drought, and the heat this weekend, and not watering hardly at all, the yard is getting frighteningly crispy. And surprisingly, you can’t just stop watering your lawn and ignore it. If you do, then the hardier weeds will grow, and seed, and your yard will look not just brown and dead, but seriously neglected, like an abandoned home.

So, I spent a bit of time out in the heat, cutting weeds down, mowing the dead lawn, etc. It seemed like a safer way to get exercise than riding in this heat, at my age and degree of fatness…

In before the hand wringing “It can’t be done” crowd.

I think I just heard the New World Collective crap their shorts.

The anchor babies. Oh my. This just got real.

He could win on this alone.

This is a revolutionary document that will be earth shattering for the Dems, La Raza, and the GOPe. It comes striaght out of Jeff Sessions office. If Trump stands strong on this, he will be the next President.

He has repeatedly said they need to be deported.

But even if he didn’t, what’s laid out in this plan is huge because it addresses every weak point in our current illegal immigration policy—-which is no policy at all.

And if any other Repub candidate does not begin to echo this loudly and often, then they have disqualified themselves.

Raising wages for H1B makes the process much less attractive, no cheap labor.

The companies involved will need to look long and hard at requirements to make sure the cost is worth the effort and affect.

The GOP and Chamber must be having conniption fits.
I’m sure Obama will file an executive order preventing any Future President
from securing the border. McConnell and Boehner will continue hiding
in the closet.

Yeah, you caught that too? I was at the post office the other day and my wife two day later… the place was almost packed with wet backs getting passports for their 14th Amendment deposits on our shores.

Cook off a little bundle, dump it in the U.S., call it a 14th Amendment anchor baby and you’re set for life because we can’t have the parents of U.S. “Citizens” going hungry and not able to support theme can we? WHY THE HELL NOT?!!!

Trump was clever… we will deport them and we will keep the families together… how I wish he could and would make it so.

We now have at least 42,000,000 illegal and legal aliens in this country right now. Can you imagine what it would be like without them? A hell of a lot better that is how it would be. People would mow their own yards again and kids would have summer jobs again.

Our jails would be a lot less crowded
We would have about $600,000,000,000.00 fewer dollars spent because of them. That is enough to PAY for our military outright. With that one act the budget would almost be BALANCED!!!

Social Security would be helped.
Medicade would be helped
Hospital emergency rooms would empty out
Schools would speak English
You would not have to press ONE for anything!
The list of things that would be better is almost endless.

$1.5 Billion in goods alone trade every day across the US / Mexico border. Trump wants to disrupt that in order to enact this ridiculous affront and barrier to further trade. Also, he can’t enact new tariffs, clearly he hasn’t even read NAFTA.

Chapter 3, Part 2, Section B:

Article 302: Tariff Elimination

1. Except as otherwise provided in this Agreement, no Party may increase any existing customs duty, or adopt any customs duty, on an originating good.

Tariff elimination and import duty mitigation is basically what NAFTA was all about, it’s what the Free in Free Trade specifically refers to. The rest of the document is basically built around that idea.

I’m honestly not sure if this is still going on (I live in GA), I haven’t checked this year. The law was passed in 2011, and I am not sure if there have been changes or not. The state prides itself on it’s Georgia Grown initiative, and that’s still widely advertised on TV and in stores. Prices for things like melon, watermelon and cucumbers are higher than I’ve ever seen them, but I’m not sure if it’s this or crop failure. I can tell you, that without serious attention farmers are losing a lot of crops just from the ridiculous weather this year. I’ve lost all my vegetable garden to diseases and even sunburn. 95% of all the land in Texas is privately owned. Then he’d have to force the government onto the land they DON’T seize so that they can move equipment, workers and supplies to build the wall.

The problem is, of course, that wingnuts ‘just know’ that all illegals are paid in cash under the table, so they don’t contribute to Social Security, despite the fact that they all have fake Social Security cards and don’t all work as day laborers. They also ‘just know’ that illegals get most of the SNAP benefits, and welfare, and SSI, even though they’re not eligible for any of those.

No amount of data will dissuade them, because they know somebody who saw a family with dark skin and black hair in front of them at Safeway, buying crab legs and lobster, speaking what they assume was Spanish, and paying for it with what they ‘just know’ was an EBT cart.

While I won’t categorically rule out him winning the nomination, he won’t be President. The Democratic nominee will get close to 100% of the Hispanic and African-American vote, and 60% of the female vote, and win in a landslide.

If I could see into the future, and knew this would be the thing that would get Latinos in Texas to register and vote, I’d donate to his campaign.

Sump Pump Trump still not winning over the Establishment-types.

Trump’s “plan” is an assault on not merely the illegal immigrants who have violated American laws, but those who have played by the existing rules to come to the United States. The proposal amounts to a declaration of war on America’s immigrant community, an attack on the foundational nature of America’s character as a melting pot for all the peoples of the world, and the inception of a police state that is incompatible with a free republican democracy.

Kasich quoted from CBS Face The Nation (Site)

John Kasich: “I expect to win this one”

He thinks the solution to the immigration problem is to finish building a wall with Mexico and make it clear that any future border crossers will be sent back. He said he would also legalize the people who are in the U.S. illegally but don’t have any criminal records, and he would have a guest worker program.

“I think the country can unite around that,” he said.

Let’s not forget that fundamentally and originally most conservative policies boil down to keeping people of color in check. Gun control when black people wave their guns, 2nd amd. when white people do. Concerns about tyrannical govt, when govt pays welfare checks, calls for a police state when they think they can decrease the number of brown people. And so on.

Ted Cruz must show naturalization papers to keep his US Senate seat

Details have been emerging which highly suggest that both Ted Cruz’s parents had become Canadian citizens prior to his birth. According to past public statements made by his father, legal opinions and documentation currently available, Rafael (Ted) Cruz was likely born of 2 Canadian citizens in Calgary back in December of 1970.

Under public pressure regarding a possible run for President of the United States, Cruz did release his Canadian certificate of birth. Since the certificate only lists his parents place of birth and not their citizenship status, it has just merely been assumed that his mother retained her US citizenship since her birth. It was not until May of 2014 that Senator Cruz filed the legal paperwork necessary to officially denounce his Canadian citizenship which was automatic at birth.

snip

If Senator Ted Cruz was only a citizen of Canada and has since denounced that citizenship, is he a man without a country and unlawfully holding a US Senate seat?

Will the American people unite in a demand that our constitution is finally adhered to? At least 3 Republican contenders for President are obviously not eligible to run for the office. Why has even Donald Trump gotten silent on the issue? It will take the American people to right these wrongs, no candidate currently running for office from either major party has the guts to ever do it.

The three are Cruz, Rubio and Jindal.

FIRST, SHUT DOWN MOAR AUTO PLANTS!!! THEN WHEN THOSE YOONYUN LOSERS & DUMMIES ARE UNEMPLOYED FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS THEY’LL BE HAPPY TO GET THERE OLD JERBS BACK FOR HALF THE PAY!!!! TERRIFIC DEAL!!11!!!!

He said U.S. automakers could shift production away from Michigan to communities where autoworkers would make less. “You can go to different parts of the United States and then ultimately you’d do full-circle — you’ll come back to Michigan because those guys are going to want their jobs back even if it is less,” Trump said. “We can do the rotation in the United States — it doesn’t have to be in Mexico.”

He said that after Michigan “loses a couple of plants — all of sudden you’ll make good deals in your own area.”

I think my favorite part of this plan is its utter obliviousness.

95% of all the land in Texas is privately owned. To build that giant, impenetrable wall, Trump would have to seize all of the land along the Rio Grande via that conservative bugaboo of eminent domain. Then he’d have to force the government onto the land they DON’T seize so that they can move equipment, workers and supplies to build the wall.

Good luck with that.

That’s why Trump wants Mexico to pay for it, and I assume place it on the Mexico side.

But I’m not sure farmers actually want that sort of program, since that would raise their labor costs due to taxes that their workers would have to pay.

That person had a link to the following on-topic story from a different source. I’m not use that person’s link, because I don’t want to use a moonbat’s link, but here’s the DM’s version:

Vigilante border militiamen busted after ‘stealing cocaine from fake drug cartel in FBI sting operation’ and saying they would kill for money

Arizona border vigilantes have been charged with intent to sell cocaine after they supposedly stole five kilograms of the substance from a fake drug cartel during an FBI sting operation.

Parris Frazier, Robert Deatherage and Erik Foster of the Arizona Special Operations Group militia were arrested in July after taking cocaine from a vehicle at a warehouse off of a highway between Phoenix and Flagstaff.

Frazier had previously told an undercover FBI agent that he was willing to steal cash, drugs or kill anyone who needed to be ‘taken out’ to make money for his group.

A complaint against the men, who previously gained notoriety for providing anti-Muslim activist John Ritzheimer with security at one of his events, says that they have been under investigation since January.

Especially amusing to me was the first photo of this Robert Deatherage. Here we see the goofball wearing a camo outfit with a patch that says ‘Sniper’ while cradling a non-scoped AKM (which is NOT a sniper’s weapon):

Trump has a plan to replace the experienced farm labor: use women.

“Before any new green cards are issued to foreign workers abroad, there will be a pause where employers will have to hire from the domestic pool of unemployed immigrant and native workers. This will help reverse women’s plummeting workplace participation rate, grow wages, and allow record immigration levels to subside to more moderate historical averages.”

Todd quoted the Buzzfeed article in which an email from the campaign to BLM — written by Sanders senior staffer Marcus Ferrell — read, “I apologize it took our campaign so long to officially reach out…” Sanders corrected Todd, letting him know it didn’t come from him.

“Well, that was sent out by a staffer, not by me,” Sanders replied. “Look, we are reaching out to all kinds of groups. Absolutely I met with folks at Black Lives Matter. We’re reaching out to Latino groups. We’re reaching out to the unions.”

“I understand that you said a staffer put it out, but you felt an apology was necessary?” Todd pressed the senator.

“No, I don’t. I think we’re going to be working with all groups. This was sent out without my knowledge,” Sanders said.

So Sanders is retracting a out a well thought out apology, and blaming a staffer for sending it out in the first place. Feel the Bern indeed.

The idea that suddenly removing 11 million people, along with their labor and their unrecoverable FICA taxes, will suddenly improve things is magical thinking of immense proportions.

Also, where is the money coming from to treble the number of ICE agents, as well as to radically expand defense spending?

When the GOP controls DC, they always find a way to fund defense, no matter how many of their small government/balanced budget principles they have to abandon. It’s how they roll.

Let’s see how Jeb and Marco and others respond. In the GOP primaries, it may not be a smart strategy to go against the Donald on immigration. My guess is Jeb and Marco will simply mouth platitudes about border security, and otherwise try to avoid the issue.

They’ll try to avoid the issue but what I wonder is will Donald and the others let them. Romney got Perry and Newt by outwingnutting them on immigration. Bush and Rubio of the establishment favorite types won’t be able to do that IMO.

Yeah, I don’t know why you wouldn’t say “Yes, I accept that we needed to respond to the issues raised by BlackLivesMatter. I want to continue working with them, and all groups, to combat issues that Americans are dealing with.” Especially since he’s let BLM begin one of his rallies.

Trump will stay on offense with immigration, I’d guess. His extreme position on it is one of the reasons he’s been in first place in every poll for the last 6 weeks. He might as well continue to highlight his nut job views—immigration, etc—that play well with the GOP rubes (of which there are millions and millions.)

The list of things that would be better is almost endless.

this says it all and rips the facade off of the idea that it is only illegal workers that are at issue. this statement seeths with hatred of spanish speakers and makes it quite plain that the writer will not be happy until every hispanic person, legal or illegal, is forceably removed from the united states

Never did. I get the impression they’re both fairly thin-skinned when it comes to criticism, particularly Penn. He had a major WTF a few years ago when he dropped the c-word on a woman who wrote an article criticizing Super Bowl ads.

The kicker? Penn never read the article. He then tried to defend his misogyny with the ol’ free speech routine, sort of insisting that he was protecting his daughter’s Constitutional rights by calling the author a c***.

You don’t get to rewrite the history of bad candidates you voted for. If you voted for Palin as Mac’s running mate, you should hang your head in shame. She’s the biggest joke in modern American politics. Even Trump seems like a serious candidate by comparison. Quitting in the middle of her first term, and unable to form a coherent sentence on any policy matter. A complete joke.

And of course McCain is an old man, so there was always that distinct possibility he could have croaked and she would have assumed the office. But more importantly, McCain’s choice of Palin should have been disqualifying for him. He knew virtually nothing about her, had barely even met her. No due diligence on your second in command? That’s completely inexcusable.

She’ll never live down her stupidity. And McCain will never live down the fact he chose someone so utterly stupid to begin with.

There’s a possibility that McCain could still be alive if he was elected president in 2008 but I would say more than any man who has been nominated for president including Reagan that there was definitely a risk that he could not be which frankly is why the Palin VP pick is so indefensible. McCain knew he would be the oldest ever, he knew he was a cancer survivor, and he knew about the stresses of the job. McCain by many admissions only picked Palin to appease the religious right. Now to me that speaks volumes about his wisdom both as a leader- even if McCain were in perfect health, it would be an awful pick since the VP often represents the country and his wisdom long term. It would be nice if the guy had enough “straight talk” to admit that he made a mistake with her. John Kerry seems to have regretted picking John Edwards who may be a screw up of a human being like Palin but probably could have actually done the job.

(And yes, the rest of the world does get to voice their opinion as long as the US is the “leader of the free world” (gah, how I hate this phrase) and is actively engaged everywhere.)

Back in the ’70s I read an article in…Scientific American I think…where they talked about The Soviet Union and its clients on the one hand, and WOCA on the other. “WOCA” standing for “World Outside the Centrally Planned Economies Area”. Anything to avoid the term “Free World”.

The two questions I have are

1) Will Bush’s billion dollar+ bankroll be enough for him to keep him afloat
and
2) How much are the Koch bros willing to spend on their property Scotty?

If it starts to cost Trump real money to stay in the lead, I think he’ll bail. That would probably help Walker the most, sad to say.

Honestly, with that match up, I gotta go with Walker. I can see Trump playing spoiler/wrecking ball, forcing everyone to blow their war chests fighting him.

The Kochs can go toe-to-toe with Trump. I don’t see Bush pulling together a coalition to keep up with that.

Yup. The money that runs the GOP is conservative—and not the batshit revolutionary conservatism of the Tea Party. They demand stability above all, and Trump’s WWE populism is going to trigger a massive Stop Trump effort during the primaries.

Honestly, outside of the gray hair, Obama looks fairly good. My own hair went from brown to gray fairly quickly, and I have maybe one millionth of the stress he’s got.

Guess so. Just saying that I think McCain who had health problems before the presidency and was already old as is, I think the health concerns were legit and I think it’s a fallacy to say “McCain is alive so ergo Palin wouldn’t have mattered.” It is interesting though how stress effects people differently though. I hope for Obama’s sake that he lives a long and healthy post presidency life like Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush I have been able to do.

His foreign policy, or at least part of it, is essentially:
We will send troops to the Middle East to take their oil to pay for the last war.
See if you can spot the flaw in this plan.

It’s Trump’s know-nothingism about fighting the so-called Islamic State that confirmed for me that Donald Trump wasn’t going to campaign on serious ideas. Proposing to bomb oil fields that Iraqis are fighting to secure even now was and remains a horribly stupid idea.

I’m about halfway through the podcast of Maddow’s Friday show, but she’s doing some brief thumbnails of all the current GOP candidates. She covered both Jeb! and Walker.

1) She ran a piece of Jeb! stumping for Bush Sr. in 1980 in Puerto Rico, and apparently the video literally shows his knees shaking.

Now, that’s understandable for a 27 year old whose never campaigned before. But it doesn’t appear that in 35 years since, he’s gotten any better. The fact that he keeps almost willingly walking into the Iraq War buzzsaw proves that.

It doesn’t shout “Fast-on-his-feet leader with nerves of steel”.

2) Walker, not a governor but WI assemblyman or something similar, kept sending WI prisoners to a TX jail after evidence came to light that the jail was abusing them.

Coupled with his 12 for 13 record in winning elections, and his willingness to fuck over working people? He’s a Republican’s wet dream. He’s the walking definition of “We weren’t conservative enough in the last election.”

With the Kochs in his corner and their ability to astroturf like nobody’s business, I think he’ll be the guy once Trump gets bored/angry.

I think you’re right. I really hate ascribing race to it but I really thought it was odd. Anyhow, I do think the race thing will for better or for worse allow Hillary or whoever replaces Obama to pick up where he struggled. Even as a primary candidate, Hillary always did much better than Obama with white working class voters. Now whether those same voters will support her this time or against a Republican especially one like Trump who plays the populist card I do not know. Donald Trump is the epitome of crapitalism in America.

Yep. Proves in a capitalistic (as well as feudal and dictatorship) system, the surest way to the top is to inherit it. Work hard, nose to the grindstone, all that bullshit, only sure way is to have wealthy parents that fuck and produce you.

Whatever it takes to keep the next four retiring Supremes from being appointed by conservative billionaires.

Hillary would be worth for the Supreme Court picks alone. I don’t trust any Republican appointing judges. All they want are Scalia clones. Uh no thanks. No more judges that claim to be “strict constructionists” but are actually partisan assholes who belittle anyone who doesn’t think they have an Ouija board communication system with the founding fathers.

First openly gay baseball player (a minor leaguer in Milwaukee’s system) came out today. Read the comments which I really shouldn’t have and it was the usual “Who cares?” People just don’t get it. And being openly gay is different than being “openly straight” in something like sports. By being openly gay in that realm, you are saying to a kid out there who may love the game but is afraid that his sexuality may cause him to get bullied by teammates and other players that there’s a role model for you. That’s the courage of Michael Sam and now Dave Denson.

“Trump’s “plan” is an assault on not merely the illegal immigrants who have violated American laws, but those who have played by the existing rules to come to the United States. The proposal amounts to a declaration of war on America’s immigrant community, an attack on the foundational nature of America’s character as a melting pot for all the peoples of the world, and the inception of a police state that is incompatible with a free republican democracy.”

i’ll venture a prediction:

trump stays in and takes lets say half the primary vote. eventually jeb accumulates delegates from the normal vote - because if for no other reason than he’s supposed to and it will be made to happen

then at the convention the super delegates kick in & bush/walker is nominated

then the trumpsters scream bloody murder we wuz robbed

it would be a nice touch if they then stage a giant walkout on national tee vee

What would be even better would be a 1968-Democratic-Convention-type-of-thing with the Trumpistas being clubbed in the streets like baby seals by the cops. Like that would ever happen, no matter how violent they get.

Nut jobs like David Barton can always crank it up to 11. I’m sure he already has a list of 500+ ways the 2012 GOP platform could be made ‘more conservative’, and he’ll probably get his way on 495+ of these.

Didn’t he announce that he’d be willing to spend a billion dollars to get elected?

Oh of course and I think that furthers my point about how Tebow may be Mr. Nice on camera but he could be a total jerk to people he feels are heathens like Catholics, Muslims, or non-believers. Maybe that’s not fair to him but as I said, Dungy was someone I thought was a legitimately good guy and then I saw him smearing Michael Sam while bending over backwards to stand up for guys who have actually done bad things.

Maybe, and if further evidence of how Tim Tebow thinks comes out then I will modify my judgement accordingly. But in drawing a comparison between him and Trump I used what I know about the two men, not what might be true. Not trying to be hostile.

Fair enough. And i know you’re not trying to be hostile. I’ve just seen far too many evangelical Christians like Tebow who sound like nice enough guys and then they’re telling you’re hell bound because of your theocratic or political belief set. That said, I do think a lot of the hate Tebow gets is undeserved.

Quite true but there have been Heisman winners who have busted. The big problem I heard with Sam is they weren’t really sure if he was a 3-4 OLB or 4-3 end. I wouldn’t have complained if my Steelers took a chance on him being the former. I do hope he finds happiness in whatever he decides to do with his life. He seems like a good dude.

I don’t think Tim Tebow and Donald Trump would get along all that well. Tebow would be likely to call many of Trump’s past actions and current proposals cruel and UnChristian. Which they are.

Maybe they wouldn’t get along. But they’ve got one big thing in common—-an insatiable need for publicity.

NY Daily News quotes him as saying he’d spend $600 million.

But CBS News quotes him as saying he’d spend a billion if he had to.

When a reporter asked Trump, just outside the Iowa State Fair grounds on Saturday, if he would throw a billion of his own money into the campaign, he answered without hesitation.

“I would do that, yeah,” Trump responded. “If I had to.”

And in answer to a question about his campaign’s budget, Trump said that it was “irrelevant.”

“You saw I make $400 million a year,” Trump replied, “so what difference does it make?”

In Georgia, crops are rotting in the fields (as noted downstairs) because of policies that chased out undocumented workers — now he’s looking for a nationwide famine?

The corporate farmers would rather let the food rot than pay a living wage. Perhaps somebody in the GOP should address that issue?

Barbara Jordan, and the commission she chaired, were right. We need an effective, *consistently-enforced* policy on immigration—both legal immigration, and illegal immigration.

For those of you who think such things matter… please bear in mind that this comes from a mobility-challenged Black female member of the Democratic party.

The most glaring omission from Trump’s immigration plan/policy… is the blind eye he turns towards habitual abusers of undocumented workers. Pilgrim’s Pride is but one glaring example:

forbes.com

I believe we also need to ratchet down this runaway scam of the “independent contractor”…

It works like this: Pretend you’re an interior contractor, drop by the Home Depot parking lot and pick up four Hispanic guys to install Sheetrock for $8 an hour.

By law, these men are your employees, even if just for the day. But in Texas, as in many other states, it’s popular to pretend they’re each independent contractors — business owners. Which means you are not paying for their labor but for their business services.

With this arrangement, the contractor — you — don’t have to pay Social Security taxes or payroll taxes or workers’ compensation or overtime. Instead, you pretend the undocumented Hispanic worker you’ve just paid in cash is going to pay all those state and federal taxes out of his $8 an hour himself.

So Sanders is retracting a out a well thought out apology, and blaming a staffer for sending it out in the first place. Feel the Bern indeed.

His staffer apologized for not reaching out to BLM sooner. Sanders said he had already met with them so the letter/statement contained an error. Why is this such a big deal?
