Donald Trump’s New Fan: Former KKK Leader David Duke

Makes perfect sense

The latest well-known personality to reveal that he’s a fan of Donald Trump and his crazed xenophobic message: former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke.

“I praise the fact that he’s come out on the immigration issue. I’m beginning to get the idea that he’s a good salesman. That he’s an entrepreneur and he has a good sense of what people want to hear what they want to buy,” said Duke on his radio program last week after noting that he had previously been critical of Trump’s run.

“And I think he realizes that his path to popularity toward power in the Republican Party is talking about the immigration issue. And he has really said some incredibly great things recently. So whatever his motivation, I don’t give a damn. I really like the fact that he’s speaking out on this greatest immediate threat to the American people.”

Of course, this makes perfect sense; it’s exactly the audience Trump is aiming for. But Duke’s support for Trump isn’t whole-hearted; he thinks The Donald still has too many “deep Jewish connections” to be really trustworthy.

The GOP executive committee voted Friday to cancel the traditional presidential preference poll at the caucus after the national party changed its rules to require a state’s delegates to support the candidate that wins.

The move makes Colorado the only state so far to forfeit a role in the early nomination process, according to experts, but other states are still considering what to do.

“It takes Colorado completely off the map” in the nomination process, said Ryan Call, a former state GOP chairman.

I imagine it’s a little bit of both. Ron Paul delegates hijacked a good number of Colorado’s delegates in 2008. Rules for delegate selection were tightened considerably after that. And I also imagine that the Colorado GOP is terrified of who the voters will choose. Last name rhymes with “dump”.

That scares me more than him being a racist, because I don’t know what he really wants, and there’s nobody he’s beholden to. At least with everyone else, you can tell who paid them.

Yeah, I think I made a mistake there in acting like the money types are the same. Jeb is definitely the old money types on the East Coast’s guy. Walker definitely is the Kochs puppet. Perhaps it was Christie at one time but the Obama hug and Bridgegate lost him some favor. It’s really tough seeing who is beholden to. Cruz, Santorum, and Huckabee are easy ones- Christian right all the way. Paul’s part of the fake libertarian movement. And the others. Man they’re so many of them that I forget all of them.

Which is ultimately why the politician who panders to racism i.e. George Wallace and the others form that era are much more worthy of my hatred than the outright racists. You’re right. If you really believed all people were worthy of respect, you wouldn’t act that way. Steamboat Springs proper is fairly liberal, though there is a nice conservative underbelly in town. Right outside city limits is pretty deep red. Leadville tends more liberal as there’s
a sizable Hispanic population there and like the rest of the country’s Latinos vote overwhelmingly Democratic.

I think I read that even “devout Catholic” Santorum started his political career out as pro-choice. These guys all pander to some degree. My favorite was seeing old ads from Romney’s run against Kennedy when Mitt who now loves Reagan distancing himself from the social conservatism of those two. I mean granted that was part of knowing your audience and that being anti-gay and anti-choice wasn’t going to get you far in Massachusetts but Rick was actually pro-choice in what is still quite socially conservative Western Pennsylvania. I mean a lot of Dems there are anti-choice. Remember Jack Murtha? He was anti-choice and quite conservative too.

Gotcha. My SiL is Hispanic and yeah her family since they naturalized I am almost positive are strong Democratic voters. I know they ain’t conservatives. Her one sister has posted a lot of stuff on the Dream Act since her husband is someone who along with his brothers could benefit from it. And I will add that the stuff they say about Latinos being family orientated true. She’s not my true SiL but she treats me and my other brother like brothers as does their other sister. Rubio is a closet extremist. He gets away with passing himself as a moderate since he’s not a total dingus on immigration but he’s also anti-gay and by his own admission opposed to all forms of abortion. He’s definitely someone to see as a legit concern. I think he may get veeped again if Jeb isn’t the nominee. The diversity is a wonderful thing. In fact, I think my niece is going to have a pretty unique experience for our side of the family since we haven’t had a first born in America child in this family for a few generations. Worse yet has to be the irish Methodists. Gotta hand it to them, they probably piss off the Catholics, Presbyterians, and Anglicans. Heh I know it’s from the movie but I was just thinking about what an existence it must be to be an Irish Methodist or an Irish Baptist. But as the Galway Races lyrics go “The Catholic, the Protestant, the Jew, the Presbyterian, there was no aminosty.” Regarding that though, I am now positive that my Northern Irish great great great grandfather was a Catholic since I was told that the only Catholics could be buried in Pittsburgh archdiocese cemeteries for years. Figured he was and I didn’t care one way or the other.

Did you ever have a good deep conversation with a person and come away feeling rather unempowered? Just because you and the person who listened had no real influence?

So what happens when a young and extroverted person in an industry famous for tradition/intransigence unknowingly speaks genuine truth to real power? Let me share this way inside jewelry tidbit…. Anonymous by necessity sorry.

Remember back in June, when I told you jewelry industry friends about my young industry friend who shared a last-minute cigarette outside with Philippe Mellier, De Beers Group CEO, just before the Jewelers for Children Gala in Las Vegas? She didn’t know to whom she was speaking, and he only told her he “worked for De Beers.”
She proceeded to read him the riot act about how De Beers’ lack of generic advertising had tanked diamond sales in the U.S.! She only realized who he was LATER — when he got up to accept his award as the dinner’s honoree - HAHAHAHAHA!
Well, it looks like Monsieur Mellier was listening to my young friend. Voila! De Beers will have a holiday marketing campaign this year! Whoo hoo! ‪#‎OutOfTheMouthsOfBabes‬

My Freshman year at Allegheny College, Bruce Springsteen performed. He’d been booked before ‘Born To Run’ hit, but the concert was after that, so it was a real coup for Allegheny, a little college in the upper left hand corner of PA to get a guy who was topping the charts.

Everyone who went said it was great. Unfortunately, I was not among them.

If it didn’t come with the cachet of previous zombie hit, would so many people have stuck with it through the whole episode? Supposedly it was the most-watched cable show premier. I guess I can believe it, given marketing and all, but there is little there there in the first 30 minutes.

This is the GOP frontrunner, and he’s doing more damage to the party than the Clinton campaign could even dream of. Whoever ultimately wins the nomination, assuming he doesn’t, is gonna be carrying such heavy baggage in this man’s wake that there is no way they’ll ever make up the ground lost before next November.

I certainly hope the damage to the GOP is both severe and permanent. However, I will need to see that before I believe it.

In any case, Trump’s getting a large faction of the GOP to latch onto open white nationalism makes this possible destruction of the GOP too double-edged for my comfort.

The Communist Party USA has endorsed Obama/Biden the last two elections. How many here would use that fact to argue that Obama and Biden are, therefore, dyed in the wool communists? Even if they made a few comments or policy statements supporting ideas that might have something in common with communism, or socialism?

Meanwhile, Denver is acting against Chick-Fil-A.

Remember when Chick-fil-A was so very proud to be anti-gay? Well, pride goeth before a fall.

Franchisees want to open a new Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Denver International Airport. They thought they’d be a shoo-in. They have successfully operated several other fast food restaurants at the airport without complaint, and a 2013 survey found Chick-fil-A was the second-most sought-after fast food chain for airport visitors, trailing only Chipotle. But for the moment, the Chick-fil-A deal is on hold, after councilmembers on the Business Development Committee questioned the ethics of giving a seven-year concession agreement to a company with Chick-fil-A’s reputation.

This needs to happen more.

And CPUSA admits they endorse Democrats simply because they see them as a lesser evil against the Republicans. It’s about as lukewarm as an endorsement as you can get. Of course, white nativists/xenophobes will go crazy in support, pushing his overall numbers up even higher.

This is the GOP folks. Nativist. Xenophobic. Racist. Misogynistic.

And if you think that the local and state GOP is any better, you’re fooling yourself. Trump’s even louder and more proud of his racist/hate filled tirades, which I think will only stoke the lower levels of the GOP to abandon all pretense of being a “big tent” party and focus entirely on letting their hate flow.

You might want to give that a second thought. America is even dumber than any of us ever thought possible.

Supporters tell horrified GOP pollster why they trust Trump to make America great again: ‘It’s on his hat’

But supporters mostly explained that they found Trump’s message — which is pitched to a third-grade level — appealing because it was easy to understand.

“We know his goal is to make America great again,” one woman said. “It’s on his hat, and we see it every time it’s on TV. Everything that he’s doing, there’s no doubt why he’s doing it — it’s to make America great again.”

Luntz showed the participants recordings of Trump insulting women, bragging about himself and reversing his previous positions on a variety of topics — but the vast majority said they only liked him more after watching the videos.

I can’t decide which would be worse. For one, I can’t stand the idea of Hillary in the White House — she’s a corporate shill of the worst kind. But the idea of any of the losers and assholes on the right even getting their party’s nomination is even more frightening.

Personally I’m hoping for Bernie, but like how the Clintons teamed up with the GOP to take out Green party candidates in California, I really don’t think Bernie would be able to make it to the finish line without being betrayed by the “left.”

Depending upon who the GOP nominates, or maybe if someone is thinking about it even now, this should be a boost for Democratic outreach and getting new voters registered. All you have to do is just show them what ALL of these guys are saying and get them their voter registration information. Doesn’t mean that the GOP statehouses won’t try and deny them their rights, but I would think that this should be inspiration enough to get people to do the tasks necessary to be eligible to vote.

Maybe that’s naivete on my part, but I think a big part of the “silent majority” DOESN’T agree with these asshats and we need to ensure that we help these folks get registered, stay informed and then finally VOTE.

Right. Really the guy’s nothing but a fucking hypocrite. And honestly I think comparing even Islamists to Nazis is stretching it. Not that I have any great love for Islamist movements but the Nazis were a special kind of evil. The millions dead in their wake can attest to that.

Why shouldn’t anybody who can meet these (standards) be accepted? And the answer is, there is no reason,” [Navy CNO, Adm. They really have this image of pro-choicers loving the idea of killing people. It’s like something out of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion honestly. All pro-choice means is you support a woman (read not some dingus who doesn’t even know her or her situation) having the right to control her own pregnancy. It may shock them but us pro-choicers celebrate just as much if not more than they do when we find out a loved one is expecting. We love babies too. We just don’t think you should be telling a woman what to do with her own body.

The notion that feminizing (Whatever the hell they take that word to mean) the SEALS in any way, shape or form is wrong speaks to conservatives’ low regard for women.

We had SEAL teams come down to play where I was. From what I saw of them firsthand, I’d say that being good at it requires intelligence, training, training, training, focus, and ferocity. Those who doubt that women can’t be fully effective in SpecOps don’t know much at all about women.

I’d love to see it but it would be in vain just like the Sean Hannity promise he’d be waterboarded to prove it wasn’t torture. Someone should have told that punkass that we actually tried and actually hanged Axis war criminals who did that to our POWs. Navy SEALs will open to women, top admiral says

Damn straight. The women will be superb. To the USN I say, “Well done!”

This is now the 5th barrier women in the Navy have broken. The first was women on surface ships. Followed by Naval Aviation. Then they allowed them on submarines (they started with O gangers) and are now accepting enlisted personel.

First enlisted women picked for subs begin training

The Navy began recruiting women in January for submarine service. The first group chosen was announced in June and will begin serving on submarines next year.

re: #340 klys (maker of Silmarils)

Do you genuinely see nothing wrong with those signs? Think they’re funny? Think women are just overreacting and being overly politically correct?

Actually yes, I do find it funny in a sad sort of way, because it’s obviously them trolling the new arrivals. They are doing so by both mocking their own reputation for being dens of sin as well as mocking the insecurities of the parents about the idea that their children (and wives) might have consensual sex while at college.

They are doing it for a reaction, and people are giving them the exact reaction they were looking for. I find that amusing, just like when I see the MRA and MGTOWs flip their shit over “Kill All Men” or “I Drink Male Tears” or the Teahadists flip their shit whenever anyone says “Background Checks.”

Also note that at no point is a lack of consent implied in any such way from those sheets, any such takeaway is thus the bias of the viewer.

It certainly doesn’t prove the existence of a “Rape Culture.” In fact, the overreaction and derision they got for this proves the opposite — that we, as a culture, abhor rape, to the point that we consider dehumanizing young college men because they might be potential rapists acceptable. See also: “Listen and Believe” and the constant removal of due process from college campuses for young men accused of sexual impropriety.

Or, to share my own little offensive image:
Image: bQKo4jM.jpg

In one paragraph or less, please explain the following:
1. How was Jake able to consent?
2. How is Josie not a rapist?

To debate Trump I wonder if looking at all his dealings and asking him if he will run the country the way he ran his businesses would be a road to go down. Start bringing up how he has built his whole career on other people’s money, cutting corners, government manipulation, etc.

Make the point that part of what has not made America Great lately are too many people like Trump doing business that way. Make a point about how guys like Trump take from the government in ways bigger than social program recipients, and pay little tax. How can we make the debt less like he says he will do if he won’t do what needs to be done about guys like him.

Can he be forced into admitting he needs to change to be president, he needs to get over himself?

That he actually said that shows how little he understands the Holocaust. Only a small percentage of the overall Holocaust victims were Germans. The vast majority came from Eastern Europe. If those nation’s militaries couldn’t defeat the Nazis, how were a bunch of civilians who sadly did experience a lot of hate from their non-Jewish neighbors too going to survive that. The Holocaust happened because of militarism and that centuries’ old prejudice of Antisemitism.

Quite true! But my question was more along the lines of wondering why when in a neutral position as presented (both drunk et all) it’s spelled out as:

Woman victim
Man criminal

When as spelled out, they’re both guilty. Or not guilty, as the case may be.

But yeah, a shitty poster.

I just don’t know if dredging up a social justice mob on these guys is going to do much other than polarize both sides. The frat in question isn’t going to go “oh wow, maybe that was too far, damn.” They’re going to retreat into their own safe spaces and get defensive as all getout.

I’m pretty sure pretending that rape culture is a myth also does nothing to help change happen, and making it equivalent to “femininazi” is a nice way to tell feminists (since the term originates from and is discussed in academia) to sit down and shut up because what they’re talking about is making other people uncomfortable.

We can disagree on the definition used - and people do - but if you think that there is nothing in our culture that treats rape as “acceptable” or “boys will be boys” or minimizes it, you haven’t paid attention.

I’m trying hard to be reasonable here, but I don’t necessarily care a lot about the frat boys’ feelings. Saying that this was too harsh is simply tone policing. Was it too harsh when the university came down on the frat that had the racist chants? Or should we have been nicer then so they might have learned to change too?

re: #419 klys (maker of Silmarils)

I’m pretty sure pretending that rape culture is a myth also does nothing to help change happen, and making it equivalent to “femininazi” is a nice way to tell feminists (since the term originates from and is discussed in academia) to sit down and shut up because what they’re talking about is making other people uncomfortable.

I want to read the Dr. Smith’s book (“Encyclopedia of Rape”) where she defines Rape Culture, but lord, it’s expensive. My other leads to educate myself are The Sexualization of Childhood (Childhood in America) or Violence Goes to College: The Authoritative Guide to Prevention and Intervention by Dr. Bollinger et all, the first of which is equally expensive and the latter is not available on Kindle.

These three are listed in Wikipedia as the book that originally defined the term in the 70s, and the two primary sources for the Wikipedia definition, so they’re my first line of trying to educate myself about what the heck people are trying to talk about in this reguard; I’d read the full Wikipedia article but Wikipedia’s veracity has been in question for a while now.

So, olive branch: Do you have a better source so I can read up on this? Obviously I’m misinformed about the colloquial definition, so I’m willing to read up on this with an open mind.

We can disagree on the definition used - and people do - but if you think that there is nothing in our culture that treats rape as “acceptable” or “boys will be boys” or minimizes it, you haven’t paid attention.

I did not say that. Nor would I ever say that. I don’t even understand how we got from point A to B in this regard.

Was it too harsh when the university came down on the frat that had the racist chants? Or should we have been nicer then so they might have learned to change too?

No, of course not, they deserved every thing they got.

There’s clearly a line. I would even say the frat with the banners crossed it, and I wouldn’t cry a moment if they got thrown out or …disbanded (is that the right term?) for it. But unless we’re using “rape culture” as a synonym for “misogyny” I don’t get how that’s an example of such, as it doesn’t scream “rape” to me, it screams “boorish frat boy.”

Apparently I’m wrong. So again, with my hat in hand, I’ll ask for help understanding just why I’m wrong: Got any reading material for me?

Yeah it does. Kita, you are dead to me. Stinky, flush him if you want. He has no redeeming qualities to bring to this board.

You have my phone number - it’s in your Twitter DMs. If I genuinely have gone off the rails, please feel free to call me, any time, night or day, and scream at me until I understand. Because I do genuinely trust your opinion more than anyone’s, even my own, and if there’s anyone who can tell me off and make me understand it, it’s probably you.

I don’t read a ton of feminist academic theory, so I can’t speak strongly to the background there. I do find the Wikipedia article to be relatively evenhanded, discussing both use of the term (and a number of the definitions I see frequently) and various criticisms, although checking secondary sources is always a wise idea.

A nontrivial portion of my online interaction is with women, for whom the colloquial definition tends to be based on examples gleaned from the news, where it reinforces attitudes experienced in every day life. Things like where the news anchors worry about how the lives of two teenage rapists were ruined while not mentioning the victim at all. Where rape isn’t a serious enough crime to warrant testing the kits in a timely manner. Sure, there’s pushback in our culture at this point when things like this happen - but it was the norm for a long time. It had to be, for the attitudes to become ingrained enough that people thought these things were fine until someone else started saying something. That’s the sort of thing that many, many women online are referring to when talking about rape culture. It’s tied in with the same attitudes that led to a lot of victim blaming and slut shaming in the past, that still contribute to an unwillingness to report rape today.

I did not say that. Nor would I ever say that. I don’t even understand how we got from point A to B in this regard.

I hope that, working with the definition I gave above, you can understand how saying that “rape culture is a myth” might be interpreted as denying that our culture has some issues still to be worked out on this subject. I’d be curious to know what definition you were working from. I will say that the one I often hear in association with Gamergate is the equivalent, in my experience, of accepting the Tea Party charicature of the Democrat party platform as absolute gospel.

No, of course not, they deserved every thing they got.

Frat houses in particular have a problematic history regarding respecting women’s rights to say no. It’s nearly impossible to evaluate the signs without taking that history into account. Apparently you can, and so I’m not sure what to say, but at least for me (and I might hazard for a decent number of women), it is a footnote in the back of the mind that is always there to be aware of. In the same category as making sure I always know where my drink is and never let it out of my sight.

To make it clear Lizards , Kita brought his personnel politics into the workplace. I warned him about doing this, but he ignored me. He paid the price.

Now he is getting beaten up here because he can’t support his position. Have fun. As I stated above, I no longer will support him.

But no, that’s not why I was fired.

I don’t know if you’re still up, but I would encourage you not to write your friend off yet.

Have the conversation, give it some time, see where you both stand after that. I do understand that sometimes you have to draw a line, and maybe that is where you stand afterwards, but at least give it a little space before you get there.

My two cents, anyway, for what it is worth. It could be tonight was a wake-up call.

Thank you.

I’m trying to finish this reply to the below but it’s so long (4488 characters and counting) that it almost belongs in it’s own page, and I don’t even know if replying would jsut be stirring the pot or if I should just go find a nice crack to hide in.

Thursday 0830 run @ Freddies. Meet me there

and yes it was.

I counseled you to keep you mouth shut on politics. But you ignored me. This in turn diluted anything else you may have said. I’ve haven’t survived down there for 22 years without learning this lesson. I tried and I failed. Well you can’t drive a wood plug into a stone wall no matter how hard you try

re: #434 KiTA

Here’s my recommendation: if you’re unsure, sit on it. Save it in a draft somewhere, and come back to it tomorrow or two days from now or whatever and see where it’s at. And in the meantime, read and listen. Think.

A lot of the pushback you got tonight stems in part from the comment you made coupled with the history you have of supporting groups (in the comments here) that have minimized a lot of these same issues. You may not feel like that characterization fits, either the group or what you believe, but that is the context through which most people interpreted what you were saying.

Since you do genuinely seem to be trying to figure it out, also consider that sometimes the hardest truths to confront are the ones that challenge the identity that we have built for ourselves. You might be wrestling with something like that now. Consider what you said above about how people react when challenged. Try to look at your own thoughts/behavior through that lens: could that be happening here?

I don’t hate you, for what that’s worth, and since you are trying I’m not going to downding here.

I will try to make it at @08:30, but there’s a Buddhist meeting at CSI on Wednesday @1900 and that might be hard to juggle.

Feel free to call if you would like, though, I really would like to speak in an environment I can be told to go to hell if needed, Freddies might not be conductive to that.

Umm, the implication was definitely that regular Muslims would go along with the extremists, just like the rest of Germany went along with the Nazis.
