The Trump Campaign in a Nutshell: Kicks Out Mexican-American Reporter, Says “Go Back to Univision”

Right wing blogs cheer wildly

YouTube

This was an absolutely horrifying glimpse of what it would mean if by some chance this caveman is elected president, as Donald Trump had his burly bodyguards eject one of the most popular anchors for Hispanic television network Univision, Jorge Ramos, saying scornfully to him, “Go back to Univision.”

Wow. Just wow. Then Trump described the incident this way: “He stood up and started screaming. He’s obviously a very emotional person.”

Watch the video and see for yourself; Ramos was absolutely not “screaming” or “emotional.”

Social media erupted in outrage, and clearly someone in Trump’s campaign noticed how bad this looked — because they let Ramos back into the press conference and Trump proceeded to argue with him for several minutes.

The Washington Post’s Philip Rucker has an account of that argument:

The next question from Ramos: How do you build a 1,900-mile wall across the U.S. border with Mexico?

“It’s very easy,” Trump said. “I’m a builder…. What’s more complicated is building a building that’s 95 stories tall.”

The questioning continued. At one point, Trump said, “I can’t deal with this.” A Trump aide interrupted and told Ramos, “Is there one question — one question?”

Yet Trump let the questioning continue, seemingly determined to prove his case. “I have a bigger heart than you do,” he told Ramos. “We’re going to do [deportations] in a very humane fashion.”

Trump went on to assert that gang members in Baltimore, St. Louis and other cities are illegal immigrants.

“Listen, we have tremendous crime,” he told Ramos. “We have some very bad ones… Do you mind if I send them back to Mexico?”

Ramos replied, “No human being is illegal, Mr. Trump.”

The response: “Well, when they cross the border, from a legal standpoint, they’re illegal immigrants when they don’t have their papers.”

When Ramos pressed Trump on polls showing his unpopularity with Latinos, Trump would not accept the premise of the question. First, he interrupted Ramos and turned the question on him: “How much am I suing Univision for right now? Do you know the number? I know you’re part of the lawsuit.”

“I’m a reporter,” Ramos said.

“Five hundred million dollars,” Trump replied. “And they’re very concerned about it, by the way. I’m very good at this.”

It’s just unreal to see someone like this holding the right wing base spellbound. The first comment for the YouTube video above:

I don’t support any political candidate(STOP VOTING PEOPLE), but I have to say this is awesome. Trump says he will kick illegals out, and he starts in his press conferences! Good stuff :-)

And this comment is being echoed all across the right wing blogs and media sites tonight. They absolutely loved this awful demonstration of blatant bigotry.

A dickhead candidate for a party of dickheads. Go ahead and nominate him GOP and I promise you that the Hispanic vote and thus the White House will never be yours ever.

And not a single Republican candidate will dare speak out against this. They’ll either avoid the issue or they’ll continue to suck The Donald’s toes in the hopes that, if he should implode, they’ll be positioned to take his place as King Asshole of the GOP.

Because he’s a racist?

Trump knows exactly who criticizes him.

Ramos recently described Trump as “the loudest voice of intolerance, division, and hatred right now in America” and said today that Trump declaring he’s going to kick out 11 million immigrants is just a ridiculous empty promise.

Imagine being a minority in this country. You hear this stuff from Trump and the other Republicans, and you’re both scared and disgusted.

Now, realize that while you need to vote (I sure hope Latinos in Texas are realizing they need to vote), but that you are counting on whites who keep saying they need a reason to get out and vote.

Gotta give Ramos loads of credit. He’s one of the few reporters that has called this out for the ridiculous crap it is. A lot of the others in the media are just praising Trump for his “straight talk.” Do these idiots who think deporting 11 million people won’t have any effect on us at all? They just hate illegals because illegals broke the law blah blah. Okay some of them did, I concede but let’s also concede another point that people aren’t always sent to jail for breaking the law and furthermore a lot of these people are for cases and purposes Americans.

As hard as the Commie libturds try they can’t take down Trump the Great.

This is becoming seriously dangerous. Trump is potentially a real, live fascist dictator. The military and federal law enforcement would simply tell President Trump to fuck off if he started giving patently illegal orders, but he doesn’t need them. He is the kind of Hitleresque figure who can beat the diffuse millions of crazed ammosexuals into something resembling a party militia, that is, Brownshirts.

Ah, the master. I still miss him.

I miss him so. He really had an influence in how I look at things. I knew him as Mr. Conductor as a child, Rufus from Bill & Ted later on, the priest in Dogma when I was a teenager. Never really listened to his stand up until I got to college. A guy down the hall in my dorm had a gaggle of George Carlin stand up and dude was generous, let me borrow/copy most of it. There were some weekends my freshman year in college that I would just smoke some grass and listen to George Carlin stand up for hours on end.

The nebulous and easily forgotten “they” but it had to do with the President, apparently, but KiTa can’t remember the important details…

good lord…

Do you really think it would matter to the RWNJs if it was Obama himself that threw the person out, or if it was an official white house press meeting without Obama there?

Are we really playing semantics games to that point?

Anyway… Why is it so hard to find archives of stupid shit RWNJs do? Trying to google “infowars ejected press conference” is pulling up some really vile websites I’d rather not open.

I swear, we really need to make a deepfreeze.it but for mainstream media, so we can just say, click on say, Billo’s name or Alex Jones’ name and get a list of all the stupid, illegal and unethical crap they’ve said over the years, with source links et all.

re: #74 Decatur Deb

Yeah, I’m having trouble finding it too. I distinctly remember it, but it must have been something with less gravitas (and security, come to think of it logically) than an official White House press event.

I did find some discussion of a a conspiracy nut disrupting an Super Bowl press event… maybe that’s what I was thinking of?

It’s like I said downstairs, imagine if the President pulled something like this during a presser? He just had decided he wasn’t going to deal with a reporter, so instead of giving them a snarky remark or just ignoring them, he ordered the Secret Service to haul that reporter out of the room? Before the day was done, the press would be all but screaming “HITLER!”

Rachel just replayed that whole Trump Ramos exchange. Then they played Kasie Hunt asking Trump if he properly handled not being able to address a reporter. Trump said he didn’t know what happened and that security took him off. He said he didn’t ask him to be removed.

Earlier, reports identified the guy as Trump’s body guard.

I counter like this. Tiny rant again.

In my lifetime “make America great again” as a presidential campaign has never ever been based on ethnic hatred and class derision like Trump displays. He appeals to the anger, the hate, the resentments in us. Even if you agree, and of course you shouldn’t but still even if… is that what you want in our President? Can we not do better than that? Can we not have a president that is not on sworn deposition record as having raped his wife? As having more success than being a serial corporate bankruptcy?

Someone who speaks to the needs of the nation before he brags about his money and his ratings?

Is That All We Got?

Yeah, it’s ceasing to become a joke for me. Especially since I know people who will vote for whatever clown these guys eventually pick, no matter how utterly idiotic he is.

I do too and the thing is some of them are people I respect very much. Not family but neighbors, family friends, etc. You know good people who are a Republican version of the old Yellow Dog Democrats.

GM discontinued the Pontiac badge, I was sorry to see it go, I have owned 4 GP’s. The best one I had was a 1971 V8, that thing could GO but in the end it hemorrhaged oil and died.

I won’t be buying another GM product anytime soon because *ahem* I get employee pricing from the competition. :)

That’s fair enough. I’m a GM guy from way back, my daily driver is a Malibu, so we’ll just have to have a friendly rivalry across the Interwebs.

I sometimes wonder if there’s even a modicum of introspection going on in Kelly’s mind over these attacks she’s receiving from her erstwhile allies. Because deep down she absolutely should have expected it and while I can’t say anybody deserves to be the target of the kind of vicious misogynistic attacks that have been leveled against her, she did damned near everything possible over her career to legitimize her attackers and their atavistic point of view.

You’d hope so. Maybe age will bring wisdom to Megyn. I feel bad for her since as you say Frank, I don’t think anyone deserves these kind of attacks but she has worked to legitimize these attackers and their points of view. She has put down plenty of women too simply to push the Fox narrative and while I don’t feel that much sympathy for her, I do a little because I really resent sexist bullshit like this.

The Trump speech was something,. The guy really is good at this, especially compared to the current GOP field. I think his work in the reality TV arena (including WWE) really helps him. Fox has the hardcore base, but many more, less engaged, republicans watch reality TV nightly. And he’s giving them what they need.

That is what scares me. Trump can work a crowd almost like what you used to see Bill Clinton do 25 years ago. He speaks easily, he’s really comfortable with the audience and he actually has an amazing memory for interesting details on people, which means he can deliver an endless ream of personal anecdotes the way other pols can only dream of.

I think we all are. I keep on thinking we;re going to see peak wingnut, that one moment that is a bridge too far for the GOP base when it comes to the candidates. But nope not yet.

I think that peak wingnut, thus defined, is logically impossible. The only possible way for a large fraction of the GOP base to desert the party in a general election would be if the GOP nominee were seen as being too moderate.

Class Clown is still my favorite Carlin album; I got turned on to him a long, long time ago when I found my dad’s 8-track of it.

one the one hand, we have trump sounding like the worst brownshirt that ever ran for a major party nomination

on the other hand, he calls out the pols for being beholden to big money and proposes protectionism to bring back off-shored jobs from overseas

Trump in 1989:

“How can our great society tolerate the continued brutalization of its citizens by crazed misfits? Criminals must be told that their CIVIL LIBERTIES END WHEN AN ATTACK ON OUR SAFETY BEGINS!” And his headline suggested what ought to be done with them:

BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY.
BRING BACK OUR POLICE!

The “park marauders,” the “roving gang,” the “crazed misfits” were fourteen, fifteen, and sixteen years old. The confessions they gave, as children, had been false, spun out under the pressure of hours of police interrogations. (They were, had anyone been ready to acknowledge it at the time, also inconsistent; they also had parents whom they weren’t able to see before their questioning.) The boys were sent to prison.

It’s a typical instance of the not as bad as fallacy, the “Dear Muslima” variation of it.

It’s cool that we have names for all these logical fallacies. You see them done all the time but I don’t know the names most of the time. I mean I could well let’s be honest I have played the same game when Christians claim to be persecuted here but that’s because it’s not persecuting Christians to allow gays to marry or to protect them from being denied a product.

I think Bernie is a little Eugene McCarthy. Never thought of Adlai. I think you put Adlai against a Republican not named Ike and a different era, he does better than he did but like Bernie, he did attract a loyal following. There was even a Draft Stevenson movement in 1960 after he had had lost two consecutive elections. Now that’s what I call dedication. It has to be noted that Wall Street and the big banks pretty much do own both parties. The Democrats and Republicans are not permitted to differ from each other very much on economic issues, which is why trade deals, bank deregulation etc. are usually bi-partisan screw jobs.

However, the plutocrats don’t really care so much about the social and identity issues, and a huge gulf has opened up between the parties on these issues. Voting for the GOP is an affirmative vote for women to be second class citizens and for discrimination against blacks and other minorities to continue unabated or to increase. Not voting for the Democrat in a general election is effectively 1/2 a vote for the GOP caveman agenda.

or he speaks Spanish, he must be a Mexican. I remember a neighborhood friend, well he was more of my friend’s brother but we were sort of friends I guess but he loved bitching about the Mexicans this and the Mexicans that. I couldn’t get over it honestly. This guy was the most proud Irish-American you’ll meet right down to his name and he was keenly aware of what our (I include myself since I self identify as Irish-American) ancestors had faced when they got here from Ireland. I guess we took two different lessons from that. Knowing that my ancestors probably faced shit for being Irish also German and Slavic not to mention Catholic mostly from nativists has made me more empathetic to what today’s majority Latino and Asian immigrants go through. I know that an immigrant adult isn’t going to learn teh language on the dye and hell my own great grandmother died not knowing much English.

No. Because they’re my friends and I don’t call my friends “fucking morons” unless I plan on not being friends with them anymore, which isn’t in the cards.

They’re convinced that Hillary is cut from the same cloth as Republicans; crony capitalism, “bought and paid for by Wall Street”, etc. etc. Fact of the matter is they still have much to learn about our political system. Hopefully by November 2016 I’ll have convinced them that voting Democrat is in their best interests. If by that time they are still obstinate, I will gladly call them fucking morons and end it there.

For a little while, I expressed a similar viewpoint as your friends, though for different reasons. I was pretty conservative growing up, but became more liberal throughout college as I saw each bullshit belief I had fall like a domino. I would often say there was no difference between Republicans and Democrats because I couldn’t come to terms with the fact that I was becoming one of them libtards and wanted to absolve the GOP of any guilt for becoming batshit insane. I know better now though. Hopefully they’ll learn too.

Well, your statement is the prelude to my own. They go together. ;)

It is true, though. I’ve known lots of wingnuts in my day, and anyone who speaks Spanish fluently, has brown-ish skin, or even has brown eyes and dark hair must be a dirty Mexican. Part of me wonders if it’s kind of an instinctual, fear-based racism from the upper Midwest, where we’re mostly from white stock (Irish, Scottish, German, Scandinavian) and there are very few people of any other race.

That’s the greatest part of it, but it’s also about holding on to the half a loaf the Obama administration could wring from the bastards. If the TPGOP gets in, it’s at best 1980 again.

Yeah keeping ACA is a biggie. I said it here a month or so back but when I voted for Obama in 2008, there were some things I wanted from our president that I felt Bush did not provide- A) A president that would fight for the rights of all citizens not just straight ones, check, B) President who would fight to get more Americans insured, did that, C) A president who wouldn’t blow off allies as “Old Europe” simply because they didn’t agree. Now did Obama do everything I wanted, no but he’s done a remarkable job given his situation and I do trust Hillary to do the right thing to continue progress rather than impede it like any of the GOP candiates would.

re: #282 teleskiguy

Don’t fucking comment on my comments asshole. Just don’t. You’re a neckbeard fuckhole piece of shit. Fuck off.

I’m covering that downstairs, but I’ll bring it up here.

The definition I was given for “Rape Culture” was the literal definition as presented to me — “a culture that glorifies rape.” I don’t feel that we have such a culture, However, this is apparently woefully inadequate compared to the actual definition of the term as used, which apparently is multifaceted and includes a host of types of misogyny and attacks on victims.

Given that the subcultures I’ve been involved with have been harassed (up to and including death and bomb threats) by trolls from SomethingAwful and GNAA pretending to be “third wave” feminists, I probably have a slanted, reactionary response to the term.

I’d like to educate myself about this, so I don’t come across as such a “neckbeard” when I genuinely do identify as a feminist and believe in equal rights.

So. I asked klys downstairs, I’ll put the question out to everyone in here: Does anyone have any reading material on rape culture, a more realistic definition of such, examples of it in our culture, et cetera. I’m willing to read with an open mind since it’s obvious I’m on a completely different page than the rest of us.

This is exactly why we need to have open borders. This woman shouldn’t have to wade through the rivers of the Rio Grande just to see her family. The other thing is if Trump got his wall and mass deportation policy, inevitably some legal immigrants and yes even some U.S citizens would probably get deported too. She needs to go with someone younger as a running mate. Agree about the Castro bros being a good fit for either. The Southwest is the party’s future and it’s a region Obama did quite well in. Add a young, Hispanic guy like Julian Castro who has been mayor of a large city and currently administers a large cabinet department and I think that sets those wheels in motion. Actually changing people’s minds about anything is probably a long, slow process. For activism, GOTV for your own side is likely to be most efficient, followed by appealing to genuinely undecided voters (although I have difficulty imagining how to communicate with such strange creatures).

Even with the daily drumbeat of failure and incompetence that marked the W Bush years, it still took me several years to see it for what it was.

One of the better plans I’ve seen put forward is by the Assn. of Secretary of States. This is how I remember it, as best I can. That there would be 5 or so primaries, each one made of a mix of randomly assigned large / medium and small states. They would be 2 weeks or so apart, and Iowa and NH would keep their positions as 1st and 2nd. (They are good places for a possibly less well know candidate to make a show.)

I may have some of the small details wrong, but that was the gist of it.

The LSAT to get into law school is effectively an intelligence test. The state bar exams aren’t —— they test knowledge of state level legal procedures. Oddly enough, those procedures aren’t taught in law school, so separate bar review courses are usually needed.

A fair question especially in light of the new deal with Cuba. I honestly don’t think so because Cuba isn’t the boogeyman it once was but I could definitely see some right wing shitheads in the RNC and their media allies trying to liken Julian and Joaquin to Fidel and Raul. So, totally off topic, but I’ve been wandering around FR a bit (it’s been totally boring lately, but I digress.) It seems like the grift-a-thons are following extremely similar patterns from quarter to quarter, and lasting longer than they used to. I’m not quite interested enough to track and compare them, but it seems that they generally “reach their goal” in the second week of the third month. I wouldn’t think it would be all that consistent.

Taken over the course of 3 weeks, travelling from St Petersburg to Hong Kong via Ulan Bataar and Beijing.

Between March and April, 2015, my partner and I travelled over 10,000km. We covered one quarter of the way around the planet, the vast majority by train. Using a small, second hand digital camera and a sticky camera mount, I recorded the majority of the train journeys.

What you see is over 200GB of footage, shrunk into a single image using a technique known as slitscan. Every frame, I take the middle column of pixels and concatenate it to the image. Each vertical column of pixels represents 1/30th of a second. This adds up into a huge strip, which is then cut and pasted into a more pleasing rectangle.

It is worse. On some days you can’t even see a mountain range that’s 20 miles away. Today wasn’t that bad but it was hazy nonetheless. Next few days should be nice, we’re supposed to get some rain, so that’ll clear the air for a minute. I’ve also read that the haze is here to stay until the fires in the PNW go out.

So we are now at the point of political degeneracy where at least 2 Presidential candidates are saying “Fuck it!” and proposing we have a Helot social class just like the Spartans dd during the Peloponnesian War.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said on Sunday that the concept of birthright citizenship is illogical given America’s struggles with rising illegal immigration.

“I think birthright citizenship as a policy matter doesn’t make sense,” the GOP presidential candidate told host John Dickerson on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“We have right now upwards of 12 million people living here illegally,” he said. “It doesn’t make any sense that our law automatically grants citizenship to their children, because what it does is it incentivizes additional illegal immigration.”

GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump started a national debate over birthright citizenship by calling for an end to the practice last weekend.

Says the guy who is eligible to run for president because you guessed it birthright citizenship. Take yourself out of the running for president if you feel birthright citizenship is that wrong then Ted. You too Bobby Jindal. And he wants to talk about illegal immigration. He’s from the demographic group that has an extremely no pun intended liberal immigration policy. In the pre-Clinton era military service of some sort was a de facto prerequisite for a presidential candidacy. So everyone knew Dukakis was a vet going into that. The Willie Horton thing, first used by Gore in the primary, really hurt him.

The financial woes that were worsening here in MA, though not wholly his fault, didn’t help either. It was bad, but nothing compared to what’s going on in Christie or Jindal’s states now, and WI could become a real mess between now and November 16 too. I think both these women and indeed many of the young women you see on Fox are a product. They could probably contribute intelligently if they were on MSNBC or even CNN but I think Fox offers more money because I think there’s a big market for this sort of thing. I am sure Megyn, Gretchen are definitely conservative in their outlook but I don’t believe that they believe much of the crap they say on television at all.

Well as I said, I was just a little kid. You make a good point about military service. Clinton was definitely unique in that he had none. I think he was the first president elect since FDR to have none at all. Now what’s interesting heh is FDR’s immediate five predecessors: Hoover, Coolidge, Harding, Wilson, and Taft had none. Appreciate your insight.

The LSAT to get into law school is effectively an intelligence test. The state bar exams aren’t —— they test knowledge of state level legal procedures. Oddly enough, those procedures aren’t taught in law school, so separate bar review courses are usually needed.

I took the Barbri course on cd. On the multiple choice it was 100 questions in the morning and the same in the afternoon. I guessed on the last 20 or 30 in both sessions - didn’t even have time to read them. On the essays, I think they’re more concerned with how you construct your response rather than how much law you know. They want to see if you can put together sentences and paragraphs and do an analysis.

I took my LSAT’s on 3 hours sleep and I was high. I was in the 74th percentile, but somewhere in the upper 90s when I factored out the logic games section - that’s really math and not my best area. I actually calculated my score without the logic games section because I was so freaked out about my poor showing. Too funny, but it shook me up at the time.

Trump’s candidacy is horrifying to the Koch Bros/Fox News cable cabal.

He simply exposes the naked Id and ugliness amongst the high percentage of Republicans/Conservatives who subscribe to certain blatantly racist beliefs. He also traffics openly with hardcore craziness completely detached from the actual US Constitution and certain SCOTUS decisions.

Let us not forget that in his personal life he is also a fringe conspiracy nut, immune inoculations nutcore subscriber , serial philanderer, is proudly hostile to women, and a “camel through the eye of the needle” type of wealthy puke that a certain person in Christian mythology despised according to several Biblical statements.

No wonder he’s so popular among the seriously deranged 25% of this country.

There’s a certain amount of decorum that is expected, and Ramos was not following protocol. If Ramos had acted like that during a post-competition press conference for any major sporting league (NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, PGA, NCAA)… we wouldn’t even be having this discussion.

Sorry to hear your delicate sense of decorum was disrupted by hearing one man speak out of turn. Hopefully your fainting couch was nearby.

As for the sports press conference analogy, it’s worthless. When athletes and coaches start discussing plans for deporting 12 million people (or anything else of real importance), maybe such a comparison will mean something. For a rude vile pig like Trump to criticize the manners of others is a huge joke, a TV reality show prank. Maybe at some point you’ll no longer be standing on the outside of the joke.
