Has Alex spewed any hatred, or even mild disapproval, at Vladimir Putin lately?

Just asking questions.

Alex likes to claim that “they” will not kill him because he is too powerful and important and such a murder would only vindicate his claims. This is sort of a Christ like self image, obvious to anyone who has read Joseph Campbell. As Obiwan Kenobi (a Christ figure if there ever was one) said, “Strike me down and you will make me more powerful than ever.”

If he croaks from natural causes, a non-negligible possibility at the very least, it will have the same effect as an assassination, since his disciples will reject any possibility of natural causes, no matter what the facts.

According to his own view, therefore, Alex can reach unprecedented ratings and influence by simply falling over dead. Since he loves to push the boundaries of media sensationalism and bad taste, I encourage him to pursue this unprecedented strategy. That may well be what he is doing.

Everyone seems to have totally forgotten that Alex Jones got his start as a crazy far LEFT conspiracy monger. When Obama was elected he saw the opportunity to expand his audience by pandering to the right, and smoothly reversed his whole schtick.

The guy is a complete phony. A snake oil salesman in the classic sense, taking advantage of right wing dummies.

And therein lies my fear about Trump. The claim from Ivana that he kept a book on Hitler’s speeches on his nightstand kinda confirms it. He’s studied how to whip up popular anger for your own ends, and he’s using that knowledge really well.

The question is, what’s his endgame? What does he ACTUALLY believe? What does he ACTUALLY want? Because I really don’t imagine he’s stupid enough to believe what he’s pushing.

Just read the upchuck love letter to Trump. (ruined my appetite for lunch.)

A few thoughts (which is a few more than the “author” had):

1. For a guy who occasionally writes a blog post and/or a facebook rant, you’d think he’d have time to proofread his schlock and not print anything with so many glaring grammatical errors.

2. For a guy who occasionally writes a blog post and/or a facebook rant, he certainly knows some super influential folks (see also: vivid imagination)

Some of the wealthier individuals I know—a billionaire CEO here, a centimillionaire CEO there

Every political consultant I know is carefully observing the Trump effect

Trump’s next move should be to boycott the RNC debates and start our own with the only other interesting candidates. (our own? Is upchuck on Trump’s payroll already?)

3. The most hilarious section, to me, was this one:

Trump is listening to some of the best voices on immigration—Senator Jeff Sessions and Ann Coulter. (He should also be reading Brits-turned-American John Derbyshire and Peter Brimelow for some of the specifics.) He’s put forward the best immigration plan since Calvin Coolidge’s.

CALVIN COOLIDGE—drink!!

After all, it isn’t difficult at all to figure out things to say that, if believed, will make one popular enough to get elected POTUS. Immigration is a perfect issue to demagogue in a GOP primary. He doesn’t even have to tell the backstab legend himself, since it is already baked into the RWNJ worldview.

The real question is what will he do to try to draw support from the center and left. The banks are the obvious target, and Trump has already made noises about increasing taxes on the rich.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more comfortable with the idea of career politicians and political contributions. Career politicians may be corrupt, but generally they know the point of their job is to actually get something done. Political contributions, as long as they’re not secret, tell you who’s paying for that person to be in office, and what they’re expected to do.

Look at the problems with Congress right now. It’s not the long-time Senators and Congressmen who are the problem, it’s the novices like Tom Cotton and Ted Cruz. Imagine a Congress of nothing but uncompromising ideologues - what would it ever get done?

Similarly, imagine someone elected President who’s beholden to nobody, who doesn’t owe anyone anything for getting him there. What does he do with the office.

Cynical, I know.

We at GotNwes understand that cutting through Chuck C. Johnson’s prose is a bit like John Henry driving steel through solid rock. So, we’ve translated and condensed his recent paean to GOP frontrunner Donald Trump for your reading pleasure.

Here’s the ultra condensed version: Trump is good, but Ted Cruz is better. maybe one of them will give me a job, if they could only understand WTF I’m saying.

And now the evaporated version.

Paragraph #1: Trump has made politics fun again, like a three-martini lunch made the afternoon bearable. Trump, though, doesn’t drink, but he likes the ladies. And he has a big dick. So, he should be president.

This is what I have been saying for weeks. He is saying shit that appeals to every person on the spectrum (SocSec for seniors, taxes on the wealthy for the left, etc.) but no one has any idea what he really thinks, means or intends.

Honestly, politicians have lied for so long without being called on it, does policy even matter at all? Or have we just reached the point where it is all personality all the time.

I distinctly remember Bush the Younger doing just that in a two-day period. One group was told something 180 degrees off from the group he talked to one day prior. I feel Obama has tried to live up to what he promised…and that while he campaigned, he didn’t talk out of both sides of his mouth, but who knows, maybe I am not remembering correctly.

Damn. There was a crash at the New York Air Show at Stewart Airport in Newburgh, NY. Occurred just about an hour ago. The pilot was killed, and I don’t think there were any other injuries. While there aren’t many details about the crash, here’s some of what the preparations for the show involved (which was originally going to be in Coney Island, but when organizers couldn’t reach a deal with NYC, they moved it to Stewart).

A couple of planes participating in the show had flown over NYC metro yesterday, including a B-25, F-16, and a F-22. I managed to get a couple of pics, but the contrast/glare was pretty bad.

Be still my heart…

We already know Donald Trump makes Sarah Palin so moist in her granny panty g-string, because of how he is a hero, a gen-u-ine hero just like John McCain, only without the going to war. And we know that Donald Trump thinks Sarah is “tough and smart and just a great woman,” and he’d like to tap her in her moosehole — metaphorically, of course — and let her be the Secretary of Quittin’ Stuff, or maybe even scrawl her name in lipstick on his ballot to be his vice Trump, if we are that lucky.

96
BlueGrl21  Aug 28, 2015 • 12:25:44pm

We had a total meltdown on my Facebook this morning from a supporter of Ted Cruz. One of the best hissy fits I have ever witnessed. You could tell she had been holding it in for a very long time and she just could…not…take…it…any…more.

Donald Trump is taking all of the attention away from her candidate and making him look bad. And she’s sick of it.

The media only focuses on Trump, not her guy, and it’s NOT FAIR. Because Trump is a CLOWN SHOW! He’s a joke! How dare people allow him to DO THIS!!!!! Because TED CRUZ IS A VISIONARY!!!

Because she is a dear friend that I really enjoy drinking with, I chose to take the high road and tell her I completely agree with her. Mollified, she was able to discuss how awesome it is that she and I, political opposites, can agree on something, finally. And that is hatred of Donald Trump.

We’re going to go find some tequila tonight and celebrate hell freezing over.

Amazon sponsors a Putinist fascist:

Gabrelyanov is a son of the owner of LifeNews and other propagandist pro-Putin media and he took part in administering them. E.g. LifeNews was extensively used during the Russian invasion of Ukraine - on the side of the bandits, of course.

Who shot down MH-17? Deleted video from LifeNews [English subtitles]

Once LifeNews reported than an Armenian man hit a pregnant Russian woman and she miscarried. While that guy did hit a woman, she was not pregnant - LifeNews lied - but based on this lie the man was murdered by a terrorist neo-Nazi gang.

Now Gabrelyanov Jr. has moved to the US to do business. The same US that he used to blast while he was still in Russia.

There’s a start-up in New York that I’m not sure I want to see succeed, even though it’s based on a sound idea. It’s called Babo, and allows citizen journalists to send videos from their smartphones to news organizations and get paid for it.

Its founder, Ashot Gabrelyanov, 26, is the son of Aram Gabrelyanov, who aspired to be Russia’s Rupert Murdoch until he put his tabloid empire at the service of President Vladimir Putin’s propaganda machine. Gabrelyanov senior’s company, News Media, is 50 percent owned by the media holding of Yury Kovalchuk and Gennady Timchenko, two of Putin’s billionaire friends who are now the target of U.S. sanctions imposed in response to Russia’s depredations in Ukraine.
Ashot learned the business from his father. In 2009, Gabrelyanov Jr. started the tabloid news site lifenews.ru, and in 2013, a noxious cable channel grew out of it. The ambition was to propel News Media from crime reporting and paparazzi scoops into the realm of serious news, and Lifenews looks slick and professional. You’ll never hear criticism of Putin on it, and its slanted coverage of the Ukraine crisis has made it the most hated news outlet in Kiev, resulting in the persistent harassment of its reporters there.

[…]

There is something distasteful, however, about a service used by Lifenews and the state-owned Russian propaganda outlet RT hitting the U.S. market. After all, Gabrelyanov could have tried marketing his app to Russian news outlets — if they hadn’t declined in recent years, squeezed by Putin’s government to clear the way for Lifenews-style propaganda. My problem with Babo and its young, good-looking, charismatic founder boils down to my belief in karma, or perhaps just to squeamishness.

No, his name was not Jean Valjean. It was Jamycheal Mitchell.

It occurs to me that the Trump takeover of the GOP and the popularity of his antagonistic, smirking asshole brand of politics within that party is essentially a kind of griefing phenomenon, as seen in multiplayer video games. The Republican social conservatives can’t stand to see the populations society used to keep down, gays, women, blacks and hispanics progress or even seek redress for the systemic bigotries that plague them. They genuinely get some kind of pleasure out of inflicting distress on other people, and for them politics have become a kind of live action role playing game where they can express their barely coherent rage at things changing for the better.

It’s gamergate writ large, a violent overreaction to a invasion of perceived others into traditionally white, traditionally male spaces.

Speaking of bad crazy, check this out:

Creepy Social Media Trail in NYC Hate Crime Case

MANHATTAN (CN) - About six months after he was charged with stabbing a Muslim worshiper outside a Queens mosque, a self-described operative for an elite, Jewish anti-terrorism unit apparently blew the cover for his nom de guerre on Google Plus.

“I made it to Number 1 on the NYC Most Wanted List for fighting against the Islamic Brotherhood in the U.S.,” the first post associated with the user name Bernard Richards states. “My real name is Bernhard Laufer.” […]

After claiming to have been a member of the JDL since he was 12 years old—he’s 56 and the JDL was founded in 1968, so the math doesn’t really work very—he goes on to say that it wasn’t radical enough, then:

Also insufficiently radical, to this user, are “anti-Islamist fighters like Pamela Geller, Brigitte Gabriel, Daniel Pipes, Debbie Schlussel, David Yerushalmi, and David Horowitz,” all of whom appear in the article the “Anti-Muslim Inner Circle” by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a hate group monitor.

Though he links to one of Geller’s blog posts, the user calls her part of a “racket” that “latched on to this cause just to make money.” […]

courthousenews.com

I have to agree with him on the part about it being a racket, but in my non-expert opinion mentally ill people like him are the ones most likely to be provoked by all the right-wing conspiracy theorizing & scare mongering.

I actually feel kind of sorry for him because he truly does sound unwell, but it’s just a matter of time until something worse than the Charleston shooting happens, thanks to all the assholes constantly pushing people’s buttons.

Yeah, there are some odd quirks that they seemed to miss in that year(?) of testing they did. Window Resize, generally behaving weird swapping wallpapers, sound cutting out and not coming back until a reboot, etc etc.

All told it’s been ok for me, but yeah, a few problems here and there.

The LHC finds evidence of particle activity beyond the Standard Model

An international team of physicists has found hints of leptons - a specific type of subatomic particle - behaving in strange ways not predicted by the Standard Model. They uncovered this while looking at the decay of particles called B mesons into lighter particles, including two types of leptons: the tau lepton and the muon.

According to a key Standard Model concept called ‘lepton universality’, all leptons are treated equally by all fundamental forces, which means that all leptons should decay at the same rate, once corrected for any difference in mass. But in the data, the team found a small but notable difference in the predicted rates of decay. This suggests that some type of as-yet undiscovered forces or particles could be interfering.

Pretty weird stuff. If I’m understanding it, they’re saying either there’s a particle they aren’t aware of affecting the decay, or there’s more than 4 fundamental forces and we just… missed one?

It lasted about a day the first time, because the windows moving bug was so obnoxious, which wasn’t really long enough to get too acquainted with it.

I will say I like it better than 8, and with the improvements that 8 did make over 7, I will probably update the desktop to it at some point soon. The biggest issues there are related to not having a lot of space left on the OS drive for the upgrade.

It does look like they have done some fantastic things in terms of separating the OS from personal files, to make it easy to have your documents folder on a different drive, for example. Those are quality of life improvements I can appreciate.

I’m still trying to get used to the very flat color scheme.

Not surprising, really.
Most people in Kentucky are OK with SSM or really just don’t care one way or the other … although they do care about an elected official not doing her freaking job.
Most Kentuckians also see this as just one example of elected officials (and police) deciding which laws they want to enforce, and how that can rapidly get out of control.
It’s only the lunatics who do the rallies that get the attention. And they are all bused in by churches or don’t even live here.

I rolled back to 8.1 on the laptop and was very pleased with how smoothly that went. I can’t say how it would go rolling back to 7, though.

My laptop has 8 gigs and there were a few …quirks on the initial boot-up, but that seems to have settled after a reboot. So in that sense I’m very pleased, especially with getting that bug fixed. I have to keep the lid closed on the laptop because Problem Child thinks sitting on the keyboard is great and does all sorts of things in the process before the keyboard gives up and refuses to accept any further input without rebooting.

That was my justification for updating my PC a while back, and honestly it has held up — I can run anything modern at high settings without even really thinking about it.

This is the build I used, based off the Penny Arcade and SomethingAwful build guides. Cost me about $500 at the time (the parts are 2 gen back now so they’re going up up up.)

That website (PCPartPicker) is amazing for pricing out things, it searches Frys, NewEgg, Amazon, a ton of other sites all at once, as well as keeping track of builds and compatability. For reference, this is what I would have upgraded to earlier this year.

That’s such a weird video - the music rarely matches up with the song (except for the Ernie parts), and it looks like Beck’s band is playing an entirely different song most of the time.

I went looking and found that it’s not really Beck and Billy - but this is. After they heard the video, Beck insisted they do it live.

Oh yes, “Brother” Nathanael. Pretends to be an Orthodox Christian monk. It turns out he has attended Orthodox churches, but he has never been a monk.

He makes You Tube videos where he screams about alleged anti-Christian passages in the Talmud. Promotes anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. Unfortunately, popular among some sad young men on Orthodox Christian Internet boards. Everybody else thinks he’s loopy.

Finland: Finland’s pizza Berlusconi uses smoked reindeer, chanterelles, and onions. It’s names in response to Italy’s Silvio Berlusconi who said: “There is absolutely no comparison between culatello [ham] from parma and Smoked Reindeer.”

Sweden: Sweden’s most popular style is Kebab pizza which includes tomato sauce, cheese, schwarma meat, iceberg lettuce, onion, tomatoes, cucumbers, pepperoncini, and kebab sauce. Try it Viking-style, where the pie is folded to look like a viking ship.

I don’t know, man, Sweden sounds pretty delicious if you ask me.

So how do you like it so far? I’m still on 7 on my desktop & 8.1 on my laptop. If I try 10, it’ll be on the laptop first since I don’t use it nearly as much as the desktop.

I couldn’t even get the little symbol to appear. Took my 8.1 laptop to a repair place for other weirdness issues. The guy basically disabled the touchscreen abilities, left 8.1, rolled his eyes about 10, charged me $130 and we parted ways. Sigh.

(I only use my laptop when I travel for work, so mostly need Excel, Word, and access to my Dropbox, so I guess I’ll be ok.)

The office of Attorney General Hector Balderas today filed a 64-count criminal complaint against Secretary of State Dianna Duran in state district court.

The complaint alleges fraud, embezzlement, money laundering, tampering with public records and other crimes. It says Duran converted campaign contributions to her own use.

According to the complaint, the investigation started with a tip about Duran’s personal bank account, where numerous cash deposits were made.

It says money was shifted between her personal and campaign accounts, behavior that “often culminates in large debits for cash expenditures occurring at casinos” throughout the state.

I’ll eat fruit raw, just not veggies. I’m picky about my fruit too though. Don’t like watermelon, papaya, mangoes (except mango pickles drowned in curry). I love cheese, pretty much any kind (no Sergey, not the maggot kind).

I love the way cucumbers smell, but will only eat them as pickles. Love garlic & onion in my food, but it has to be cooked to invisibility—one bite of crunchy onion will ruin an entire meal for me. And green veggie juice—OMG keep it away from me lest it contaminate the other food on my plate! (A stray piece of lettuce can ruin a hamburger too.)

re: #324 klys (maker of Silmarils)

I like peas when they’re frozen.

I just eat them frozen.

Raw green beans are fine. Cooked is more hit or miss.

Cooked spinach is just a crime against humanity.

Spinach is a crime against humanity in ANY form. My parents stopped trying to make me eat it after like first grade—my throat would just close up and refuse it. Yuck! I do love me some ghormeh sabzi though and it has lots of greens (no spinach), but they’re all dried then reconstituted (and the dried lemons help).

5 second De-lurk:

Entertainment Weekly reports that Amazon Studios is developing a TV show based on Galaxy Quest, the 1999 film that parodied classic sci-fi shows like Star Trek. In the movie, actors for a Trek-like show were conscripted by real aliens to help run a starship and negotiate peace with a mortal enemy. The actors had no idea what to do, of course, and ended up getting help from the most rabid fans of their show. The new TV show is still in early stages of development. It’s unlikely that the original Galaxy Quest cast will return — it starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Sam Rockwell, to name a few. However, several important members of the production crew will return: “The film’s co-writer Robert Gordon will pen the script and executive produce the pilot. The film’s director Dean Parisot will direct and executive produce. And executive producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein are on board as well.” The show is a ways off, yet — they haven’t even been greenlit for a pilot episode — but it’d be a welcome addition to today’s sci-fi TV offerings

Galaxy Quest TV show. I could dig it.

Was the delivery process FUBARed on you? I assume you ordered thru Jet Pens?

It wasn’t Jet Pens—I’ve never had a problem ordering anything from them. It was coming from Jerry’s Artarama. It was massively FUBARed—the first time by retailer, the second time (today) by UPS.
