Pa. Judge Sentenced To 28 Years In Massive Juvenile Justice Bribery Scandal:

A Pennsylvania judge was sentenced to 28 years in prison in connection to a bribery scandal that roiled the state’s juvenile justice system. Former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella Jr. was convicted of taking $1 million in bribes from developers of juvenile detention centers. The judge then presided over cases that would send juveniles to those same centers. The case came to be known as “kids-for-cash.”

Enjoy rotting in a prison cell, asshole.

Did you see the documentary on the motherfucker? I remember reading about this when it unraveled. I hope Clavarella enjoys his time in the same hell holes that he was sending kids for the smallest infractions.

Like good sheep. How the fuck is it absolutely uncalled for? If anything, Ralph Regula blocking Alaska’s attempts to rename it in the 70’s were uncalled for. Now I’ll cut Regula some slack since McKinley was from the district he represented and even represented it in Congress but I am sorry but changing the name back isn’t a terrible thing. And acting like Obama is a “total asshat” just shows how sad and pathetic these people are.

Conservative racism is just so casual that it doesn’t even really shock me anymore. As for Obama “arbitrarily” renaming it. What about the prospector who named it McKinley in teh first place, the guy who had zero ties to the area. The Obama administration in particular the Interior department is merely giving it back its name that people in the area have been using for generations. “Denali” actually is a word that has tie to the areas. McKinley was just a presidential candidate who some prospector happened to want to win since the prospector was a big gold standard guy.

Silly I know but I don’t think Reagan deserves to have an airport named after him considering how he treated those air traffic controllers who are responsible for making yours, mine, and everyone else’s departures and landings as stress free as possible.

Me too actually. I mean I get why the Ohioans fight to protect it but I really do think it should have the native name. If the feds ever do a veterans cemetery in the Canton area, I think naming it after McKinley, our last Civil War veteran to be president would be a fine tribute actually.

Wingnuts can blame McKinley for Hawaii born Barack Obama being eligible to serve as President, since it was McKinley who annexed Hawaii in the first place. American settlers and their local allies had been pressing for annexation for many years, but they didn’t get anywhere with the anti-imperialist Grover Cleveland. Rabid imperialist McKinley replaced Cleveland in 1897 and got around to annexation just a year later, taking possession under cover of the Spanish-American War. This conflict had zilch to do with Hawaii, but served nicely as a pretext for widespread expansion.

Yeah I am seeing that the Alaskans have wanted it themselves for years but as previously said, some Ohioan who probably has never been to the mountain always blocks the effort. This is actually President Obama giving residents of a quite conservative state what they’ve wanted. This is just usual right wingers wanting to be outraged for the sake of being outraged. I don’t care if people want to continue to call it Mount McKinley but the official rename is a good move.

Okay, I know it’s a British tabloid, but oh the drama…

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange claims he’ll be killed by CIA DRONE if he leaves embassy

The controversial Wikileaks founder is so fearful that someone will try to take his life that he no longer uses the property’s balcony, despite having had no fresh air or sunlight for THREE YEARS. […]

Asked if he thought there was a chance he would be shot, the 44-year-old replied that it was “not likely”.

“But I’m a public figure and a very controversial one, including in the United States. As a result, there have been quite a number of threats by unstable people,” he said.

However, he does worry that if he is ever free he could be kidnapped or even targeted by a CIA drone.

“I’m a white guy,” Mr Assange said. “Unless I convert to Islam it’s not that likely that I’ll be droned, but we have seen things creeping towards that.” […]

As I said, I love the idea of a veterans cemetery being named after Mac. He was our last civil war veteran president. Fun fact but he actually served under another president, Hayes during his time in the service. I also think he was one of the few enlisted men along with Truman to be president. Most of our other presidents have been officers.

You can’t make this shit up.

Dickey wrote, “We named our great peak Mount McKinley, after William McKinley of Ohio, who had been nominated for the Presidency.”[5] By most accounts, the naming was politically driven; Dickey had met many silver miners who zealously promoted Democratic presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan’s ideal of a silver standard, inspiring him to retaliate by naming the mountain after a strong proponent of the gold standard.[5]

Evening Lizardim from the clear, cool, beautiful wild north country. The old brown Lincoln is officially in service - I got the engine figured out over the weekend, Mrs. Fish and I went over it and detailed it this afternoon, and then I put her in the driver’s seat and prayed vigorously as she put it through its paces on this beautiful late summer day. I laughed at the headline on the front page about Scott Walker wanting to build a wall against Canada - he lives close enough, he ought to know how much longer the Canadian border is and how infeasible wall-based security would be. But, he’s not one of the kings of derp for nothing. How go things among the lizardfolk as day fades into evening?

McKinley Mound!

Yeah, that’ll do it…

There’s a big statue of McKinley at the State House in Columbus. Probably passed it at least 1,000 times when I lived there, and paid almost zero attention. I’ll bet if you asked 100 people in Columbus who it is, 99 of them would have no idea.

So, various state GOP committees are thinking of making candidates sign a pledge of fealty to the eventual nominee, in order to get on the ballot for the primary.

This is their attempt to block Trump.

But, what’s to keep Trump from signing these things? Really, why would he care 12 months from now if he’s not the nominee?

112
CarolJ  Aug 30, 2015 • 3:47:10pm

Denali sounds more poetic. I can see songs and poetry coming from the name.

And it’s just as well anyway. Who cares about McKinley these days?

Of all of the assassinations, he seems to have not triggered much in the way of reform-unless you consider Teddy Roosevelt a reform in himself. Lincoln- the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments: Garfield, Civil Service Reform, Kennedy, Johnson’s Civil Rights Laws. Which is probably one reason nobody really remembers that one as much as they do the other three.

re: #111 freetoken

For Trump, such a pledge would really be meaningless if he’s not the nominee. The other candidates want to have a political career, so they will sign. And signing it will probably be needed for a post-political career for think tanks or wingnut welfare. Carson may want to keep on the grift circuit, tiring of being a neurosurgeon with long hours. Carly Fiorina may not need the cash, but wouldn’t mind another chance at a California seat, or some sort of appointment in a Republican Administration.
But Trump is in his sixties and a billionaire. He isn’t thinking about or needs to think about a political career of any kind. Think tanks, wingnut welfare? He doesn’t need any of it, and if he thinks he’s been cheated, he’ll break any pledge anyway.

Chrissie Hynde criticised over rape remarks

Hynde went on to say that women who dress provocatively while walking down the street drunk were also to blame if they were attacked. “If I’m walking around in my underwear and I’m drunk? Who else’s fault can it be?” she said.

“If I’m walking around and I’m very modestly dressed and I’m keeping to myself and someone attacks me, then I’d say that’s his fault. But if I’m being very lairy and putting it about and being provocative, then you are enticing someone who’s already unhinged - don’t do that. Come on! That’s just common sense. You know, if you don’t want to entice a rapist, don’t wear high heels so you can’t run from him.

“If you’re wearing something that says ‘Come and f*** me’, you’d better be good on your feet … I don’t think I’m saying anything controversial am I?”

The conspiracy deepens:

4. Hillary Clinton worked in a cannery sliming salmon. In the summer of 1969, Hillary worked her away across Alaska. Not only did she wash dishes at Mount McKinley, she had a brief stint working at a cannery in Valdez, where she gutted and took the slime off salmon.

Off-topic but what the holy hell.

Quick summary: DriveThruRPG, one of the big digital roleplaying game storefronts, is selling a game called “Tournament of Rapists,” which is apparently exactly what it sounds like. When called on it, they’re basically going “Ehh, what can we do,” while their CEO plays semantic games to deflect.

James Wallis, one of the best RPG creators out there, just announced that he’s taking his games off the site, and I wonder if others are going to be following suit.

To be pedantic about an obviously bad game: in the game you’re not a rapist, but rather you kill rapists.

It’s really as bad as it sounds.
I’ve seen games like this.
Most are fighting type games where you beat up then rape your opponents.
It says this in the games own description.

Never played or heard of such games, going by the author’s description:

otherversegames.blogspot .com/2015/08/my-least-popular-book-ever.html

What I think most people don’t realize is that the participants in these tournaments are the *BAD GUYS* that the PC’s are supposed to kill! Most of the “stat blocks” are for monsters/creatures for the PC’s to fight! I mean, people are up-in-arms about the TITLE of the book, can you imagine fleshing out the main bad guy who actually puts these things on so your party of good guys can go dismantle the entire organization and kill the Half-deamon Billionaire industrialist who runs it? Now *THAT* is a bad guy worth fighting in my opinion. (See my remark about Chris being a Mad Genius, and I do mean that in a good way!)

A very creepy and fucked up subculture.
