Oath Keepers Militia Says They’ll Prevent US Marshals From Arresting Kim Davis Again

Oh great - here come the armed loons

In case you thought the Kim Davis story wasn’t already grotesque enough, now the extreme right wing, batshit crazy, heavily armed Oath Keepers militia has announced they’re going to prevent federal marshals from detaining the anti-gay Kentucky clerk if/when she decides to break the law again.

Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes announced yesterday that he had reached out to Davis’ lawyers at Liberty Counsel to offer the protection of his group, which he says is already forming a presence in Rowan County, Kentucky, where Davis was recently released from jail after prohibiting her office from issuing marriage licenses. Rhodes said in a statement that his position has nothing to do with gay marriage, but rather his conviction that Davis had been illegally detained by the federal judge who held her in contempt for violating multiple court orders.

In a phone call with Jackson County, Kentucky, Sheriff Denny Peyman and other local Oath Keepers activists, Rhodes said that he was on his way to Kentucky to help with the Davis operation. Although the group had originally intended to picket outside the home of the judge who held Davis in contempt, he said, they had changed their plan when she was released on Tuesday.

Rhodes said that the Rowan County sheriff should have blocked U.S. Marshals from detaining Davis, but since neither the sheriff nor the state’s governor will do their “job” and “intercede” on behalf of Davis, the Oath Keepers will have to do it instead. “As far as we’re concerned, this is not over,” he said, “and this judge needs to be put on notice that his behavior is not going to be accepted and we’ll be there to stop it and intercede ourselves if we have to. If the sheriff, who should be interceding, is not going to do his job and the governor is not going to do the governor’s job of interceding, then we’ll do it.”

Their interference will just put Kim Davis and others in harm’s way. Federal officers on one side, and trigger happy militia on the other.

From the lunatic right’s point of view, the best thing that could happen would be Kim Davis getting shot.

They won’t be allowed into a federal courthouse armed, and that is where Davis will be taken into custody if she stops the issuance of marriage licenses again. This will only be a problem if she refuses to attend the next contempt hearing.

re: #31 jaunte

We didn’t see much of this during the 40’s and 50’s, but it’s really taken off since the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The whole Southern resistance thing actually worked pretty well for over 100 years, which is why you didn’t see a resurgence of local militia types in the rural settings until the civil rights movement started in earnest. The Southern elites were able to keep blacks from voting, got Posse Comitatus passed to end the military occupation of the South and basically went back to running the agrarian South much the way they always had.

The klan became the militia and was used informally by local law enforcement to maintain the social order. It is not coincidence that the FBI infiltration of the klan in the 70’s coincides with the break up of much of the klan structure. Around that time, however, the populist “sagebrush rebellion” in the far west began a new chapter in resistance to central government authority and led to the emergence of a new type of armed militia figure who was distinct from the klan model of the post war South.

How about the Smith Act of 1940 that makes it a crime to advocate the violent overthrow of the US Government? Of course that was to give a way to throw Commies in jail so the irony would be doubly delicious.

Not sure if Steve was living in Philly at the time, but a lot of that shit was going on there in 2000 for the GOP convention. The biggest joke was they arrested an activist group who uses puppets to protest politically.

Yes, you read that right. The cops shut down a puppet show because Philly didn’t want Republicans to be upset by puppets.

So, yeah: if liberals can be arrested for planning protests, I think religious conservatives can do a fucking perp walk for planning to deny gay people their due civil rights; with a little treason charge for threatening to interfere with federal law.

Hungary and Austria were red flags that Nazi expansionism was going to go for the inclusion of all “Germanic” peoples on the continent. The Hungarian govt was independent in name only. Everyone knew the deal that Germany was expanding and that seizing and militarizing the Ruhr was coming soon as well. The Versailles Treaty was dead…but was all of this actually worth an immediate military response from the Allies who were still reeling from the depression? Was there anything that could have been done sooner, given the weak military position that England was in?

Right I know. But yeah the Allies were really in a tough spot. So much of the second guessing comes from people who have hindsight bias. It’s too bad Chamberlain died before the war’s end. He should have been able to write his story rather than becoming the punching bag for people who oppose any peace deal.

I actually really want to learn more about WWII and it how it impacted the regions where my mom’s family is from. Unlike my dad’s side, there still were a lot of people on that side of the family that stayed in Europe. I even remember my grandfather saying the Nazis killed his cousin when they invaded Yugoslavia and that the survivors either joined the Chetniks or Partisans, I suspect the latter honestly given they were Slovenes and Catholic as the Chetniks were primarily Serb and staunchly Orthodox too.

Donald Trump has examined Ted Cruz’s eligibility for Pres and found it to be sound.

“I hear it was checked out by every attorney and every which way and I understand Ted is in fine shape[.]”

He has also issued instructions to Jeff Zucker of CNN on how he’s to spend the windfall in advertising dollars Trump will bestow on the network during the next “debate”, including a list of Trump’s preferred charities.

This was not made as a request.

A taste:

“While I refuse to brag, and you know very well, this tremendous increase in viewer interest is due 100% to ‘Donald J. Trump,’” Trump wrote to Zucker.

It’s always just been a matter of time until the insane “oathkeepers” suicide by cop. This oath must have been something really nasty. Let’s just hope they don’t take a lot of sane people with them.

As I’ve noted before the Oath Breakers, I mean Keepers, bear a remarkable resemblance to the ‘double patriots’ of the Japanese military before WWII. They murdered opponents, engineered a failed coup (that frightened the politicians into submission) and even kicked off WWII.

No, not Pearl Harbour, although they were behind that. Rather the attack on Manchuria.

Their excuse was ‘serving the Emperor’s true interests.’

From Wikipedia:

On March 27, 2014, 145,604 acres of federal land in Clark County were temporarily closed for the “capture, impound, and removal of trespass cattle”.[5] BLM officials and law enforcement rangers began a roundup of such livestock on April 5, and an arrest was made the next day. On April 12, a group of protesters, some of them armed,[6] advanced on what the BLM described as a “cattle gather.”[7] Sheriff Doug Gillespie negotiated with Bundy and newly confirmed BLM director Neil Kornze,[8] who elected to release the cattle and de-escalate the situation.[9][10]

Explain to me how that isn’t interfering with government business.

I mean, I get what you’re saying. Honestly, I do. But Jesus, dude; for once, can we stop with the “OMG 1st Amendment slippery slope” horseshit?

KRS 508.080(1)(a) covers the most commonly encountered form of terroristic threatening and requires (1) a threat to commit any crime, which is (2) likely to result in death, serious physical injury, or substantial property damage to another person. “Crime” means any misdemeanor or felony4. “Person” includes any human being, corporation, partnership or governmental authority5.

I didn’t miss it, and I addressed it when I said that so far, the Oaf Keepers haven’t hurt anybody. That history of not hurting anybody means a lot when they say they will intercede because it establishes a pattern of non-violence. When I mentioned that the open carry laws of KY are a factor it is because the law may allow them to carry their artificial dicks while they act non-violently.

Law, it’s complicated

oh shut up. Open carry in Kentucky doesn’t apply to this. And they aren’t acting non-violently when they are THREATENING TO HARM a federal judge and federal marshals.

Stochastic Terrorism: Part 1, triggering the shooters.

Stochastic terrorism is the use of mass communications to incite random actors to carry out violent or terrorist acts that are statistically predictable but individually unpredictable. In short, remote-control murder by lone wolf.

[…]

At any given time there are hundreds of thousands of Americans with combinations of personality characteristics (such as emotional instability, a paranoid ideology, and a propensity for violence) that put them at risk of going off the deep end and becoming lone wolves. All it takes is the right push, the right nudge at the right time, to dislodge a few of them and send them on their way to fifteen minutes of fame surrounded by dead bodies.

Oh, for fuck’s sake.

Into ‘scroll-by’ mode now.

You said I made an excuse. What excuse did I make? Shouldn’t be that hard. Something I wrote must have said “This is why it’s excusable”. My point is that “Arrest these assholes.” was a stupid thing to say. This whole thing is about the rule of law. You have to abide by the law whether you like it or not, or whether you like the people you are quarreling with. The fact is the Oaf Keepers haven’t broken the law at this time. The law that was quoted above does not cover what the Oaf Keepers said (as reported in the piece above, if they said something else, it would be fair game). So if you expect Kim Davis to abide by the law, then we have to abide by the law.

If the sheriff, who should be interceding, is not going to do his job and the governor is not going to do the governor’s job of interceding, then we’ll do it.” - See more at: rightwingwatch.org

When I told him that was uncalled for and he needed to stop, he proceeded to tell me the 1st Amendment means he can say whatever he wants to me without penalty. I explained to him calmly the 1st Amendment doesn’t apply since my for profit company is NOT the U.S. government. He vehemently disagreed, told me I didn’t know what the fuck I was talking about and proceeded to continue throwing vulgar insults at me.

I reminded him I’d already warned him about his behavior and hung up the call and yes, I am allowed to do that.

The Oath Keepers aren’t just skating on a very fine line between engaging in free speech but are openly agitating for a violent confrontation with their statements. As you say, they’re heavily armed and these statements can be taken to indicate incitement to violence, or at a minimum hoping to force government officials to back down from their lawful activities, including operating under color of law to fulfill their duties (like making sure that idiot clerks do their jobs and don’t violate the 1A), allowing sheriffs and other federal officials to carry out lawful detention for contempt if it comes to that, etc.

The more the Oath Keepers show their cards, the more they reveal themselves to be a terror group that operates lawlessly and with the hope of causing violent confrontation so as to fulfill their violent fantasies.

Well they haven’t actually done what they’re THREATENING TO DO. Good fucking grief.

What exactly are they threatening to do? Show me where they threaten to hurt anybody or engage in any violence. They can intercede simply by blocking the path of the marshalls. That would get them arrested, but it would not make them the sort of violent goons you expect them to be.

Terroristic THREATS.

And of note, he tried to give me the example of protesters outside of an abortion clinic to justify how the 1st amendment could apply to interactions with private companies. I pointed out to him that those protesters are acting legally as long as they are protesting on PUBLIC PROPERTY and that they would NOT be tolerated if they tried to do that INSIDE the clinic.

Didn’t seem to sway him.

Right, there’s a reason why they protest outside the clinic rather than on its property. I am sorry hat happened to you though. That guy seems like a real dick.

re: #204 Mattand

Your excuse is that you are using the same kind of linguistic acrobatics the cops did to me when my neighbor threatened my girlfriend and I:

It’s that hyper-acute reading of the 1st Amendment that people hide behind when they don’t want to admit someone is making a threat. You know full well what the OathKeepers are talking about.

And as someone else pointed out earlier, the Bundy Ranch incident has emboldened these kind of idiots even further. Giving these guys a pass because they haven’t specified what kind of bullets they’re going to use is ridiculous.

And again: if the OathKeepers were black, they’d have already been arrested for these white guys are saying.

You know what else is complicated: the fucking privilege that Caucasians and the religious get in this country.

The Oaf Keepers didn’t say somebody was going to pay, so your example is meaningless. So far, nobody can contradict certain facts. 1. The Oaf Keepers have not hurt anybody. 2. The “threats” are not explicitly violent. 3. They haven’t interceded yet.
These are not excuses for anything. Under the rule of law we all want to live with, you don’t have probable cause to arrest them. Unless you want to go with the Dick Cheney 1% doctrine.

They’re not merely saying that they will stop an arrest from happening. they’re saying that they will prevent it from happening again. How on earth is that anything but a threat under the Kentucky statute?

I don’t know what else to say. I gave detailed responses to this question a couple of times. Yet some commenters (since there are a few I won’t say you because it’s kind of fluid) just keep ignoring any discourse and keep repeating this desire to arrest these people you disagree with because you disagree with them. The law that was cited above doesn’t really give anybody probable cause to make the arrest because it would be easy to fight in a court of law.
But what the hell, here we go again. The Oaf Keepers have not hurt anybody. Their statements do not say they will use force or violence to stop these proceedings (or those they’ve been associated with in the past). If you rounded up the usual suspects, they would go to a judge and be out on the streets by sunset, and YOU would find yourself in legal doodoo, both criminal and civil.

That’s why their statements fit the criminal charge of making terroristic threats. It’s the threat of interfering with the lawful execution of a government action - in this case the orderly affairs of a federal district court.

The threat is backed up by their presence in the state with heavily armed and armored nitwits who are seeking to pick a fight with law enforcement in the state. This is exactly the kind of situation the laws stated above envision.

Other charges that could be brought (the federal law is below, and the equivalent state laws would be similar in scope as indicated below):

18 USC 1503 - influencing an officer of the court (for making threats) by threats or force (or both).
18 USC 1509 - obstructing court orders.
18 USC 1511 - obstruction of state and federal law enforcement.

For instance, obstruction of government operations - KY Stat 519.020

Intimidating a participant in the legal process - KY Stat 524.040

re: #236 The Vicious Babushka

The Kurds are already armed - the Pesh Merga are one of the more effective militias in the region, so arming kids isn’t going to help matters. And Dana seems to have a case of the cognitive dissonances because she’s pointed out when Islamists have brought child soldiers into conflicts - like what Hamas or Hizbullah have done with their “day camps” but now she’s suggesting that another ethnic group do it even as Western countries and the UN consider the use of child soldiers to be a war crime.

Recruiting and using children under the age of 15 as soldiers is prohibited under international humanitarian law - treaty and custom - and is defined as a war crime by the International Criminal Court. Parties to conflict that recruit and use children are listed by the Secretary-General in the annexes of his annual report on children and armed conflict.

I’d also like us to encourage people to gang rush shooters, rather than following their instincts to hide; if we drilled it into young people that the correct thing to do is for everyone to instantly run at the guy with the gun, these sorts of mass shootings would be less deadly, because even a guy with a very powerful weapon can be brought down by 8-12 unarmed bodies piling on him at once.

So where are the cases of pre-emptive arrests? Who got arrested for saying they would try to interfere with a judgement? Did you consider my argument above that if you arrested the Oaf Keepers, you would not be able to keep them? Their statements are crafted very carefully to avoid crossing any lines. And they haven’t hurt anybody.

That’s my point. It is a case for lawyers. Rhodes is careful not to cross any lines with his words. So far, the Oaf Keepers have engaged in non-violent action. I don’t think you can arrest them pre-emptively. That’s what Dick Cheney would do.

Let me clue you in on my personal experience. This was in Texas, but the law read pretty much just like the law reads above.

My first wife and I divorced (we had a young son). She remarried and was trying to push me out of my sons life. She and new hubby were trying to get our son to call this new hubby “dad”. One weekend I went to get him for our weekend. As we were driving he turned to me as if to ask me a question and stuttered over calling me dad. He informed me what was gong on at his mothers and this “dad” thing. It pissed me off. I dropped him off on Sunday (the new hubby wasn’t home) so I told his mom I didn’t appreciate what was going on. She said new hubby was kinda wanting it that way. I went home and called him later that night when I figured he would be home. The call got heated and I told him not to get in between me and my son or I would take him out of the middle of us. The next day the county sheriff showed up at my work and arrested me for terroristic THREATS. I spent 3 days in jail before a judge finally saw me and dismissed the charges.

So saying that they have done nothing is bullshit, they are making threats. The same shit I spent 3 days in jail for.

Because the prosecutors haven’t made that determination yet. They’re probably waiting to see if they actually act on their statements.

If they do act on them, then all of those charges, plus those identified above, would apply.

And no, if they were arrested, they could be held depending on the charges and what was found (like determining if they had outstanding warrants elsewhere, were legally entitled to carry firearms, etc.).

Their statements don’t just skirt the line - they’ve full blown gone over the other side.

If you’re that close to the line to say you’re skirting it, you’ve gone and crossed it.

People get arrested EVERY SINGLE DAY in Kentucky for terroristic threatening.
Some are charged with that for threatening judges and lawyers in divorce cases and other civil lawsuit cases.
Some are charged with it when they threaten neighbors and police for perceived injustices.
My favorites are the ones who threaten law enforcement for DOING THEIR JOBS (like delivering summonses).
All of those people go directly to jail.

As I said, people get arrested for far more minor threats than what these guys did. ObserverArt  Sep 10, 2015 • 11:22:50am

I was reading through this thread and thought I’d jump in…which may be futile considering.

You can be arrested for harassment, intimidation and threats…and there doe not have to be violence involved.

I guess the best way to say it is the police can arrest someone as a way of protecting others.

It is known that Oath Keepers relies on intimidation, that is why they carry guns, dress the way they do and act as they do. What they have done in Kentuucky is also harassment and threatening. So, trifecta.

Maybe Steve, who I sometimes thinks just likes to be the contrarian, would like to read this site (see link at bottom) to see the police can easily arrest Oath Keepers if they keep this crap going and the police feel it has gotten to the point the judge and others need to be protected. Maybe the first thing that would happen is a protection order saying Oath Keepers need to be 200 yards away from all officials involved in this case. Once they break that…time to arrest.

But even without the protection order, the police certainly could step in and arrest just by calling it “keeping the peace” and moving Oath Keepers away before any violence does occur.

Plea.org - Harassment, Intimidation & Threats

And from the site…this paragraph may make Steve think differently.

No actual injury need occur. The offender does not need to have intended to harm you. If their behaviour would cause a reasonable person to fear for their safety, it is criminal harassment. Serious cases could result in an offender being sent to jail for up to ten years. In some cases an offender may be prohibited from possessing firearms, ammunition or explosives.

Steve, are you a reasonable person?

Sovereign citizens are well known for their nonviolent means of solving conflicts, it’s true.

I mean, that’s pretty much what you just reduced his example to. The Oafkeepers are just a slightly less extreme version who tolerate their version of government but don’t recognize federal authority if they don’t agree with it.

I don’t mean your story. I mean did the judge get threatening phone calls from the Oak Keepers? Did a group that has demonstrated no violence threaten to intercede against a court ruling by not threatening violence? As much as we think they’re no help to anybody, they have NOT threatened to harm anybody. Just because they used the dreaded word “again”, it is a big stretch to say it is a guarantee of violence. I don’t have much respect for the OKs, but I do respect the law. If you arrested them, they would get a judge to release them almost immediately. I don’t think there is much doubt of that. And once you arrested them, you would give them an unbelievable amount of power.

But sometimes that can take a very long time. Racial progress was stopped dead in its tracks for decades after Reconstruction ended.

Yep, you can slow progress, and if you manage to destroy civilization, you can reverse it for a while until sane people rebuild. That’s the only way Conservatives can win. They have much better odds of success in Russia than they do here.

More on that escaped monkey story from Tuesday:
Captured monkey has tattoo indicating it was used in research before found in Bath County, expert says

A monkey that was captured in Bath County likely came from a research facility, a primate expert said Thursday.

The 10-year-old male Rhesus macaque had a tattoo of a code on its chest, said April Truitt, founder and executive director of the Primate Rescue Center in Jessamine County where the monkey was taken.

The monkey had been spotted near Owingsville in Bath County and dodged animal control, sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement throughout the day Wednesday before being tranquilized and caught.

Those kinds of tattoos are only used by biomedical research facilities, Truitt said.

The rescue center is taking extra precautions with the macaque, because research subjects can have medical conditions or illnesses that can spread to humans, Truitt said.

Even if the monkey has no research-generated illnesses, macaques often have a virus called herpesvirus B, which can be transmitted to humans, Truitt said.

It’s just like the movie Outbreak

re: #321 ObserverArt

Steve, are you a reasonable person?

I agree with you. That is the point I’ve been making. The other people around here want them arrested right now, even though Kim Davis has not yet refused to do her job again, even though the judge has not yet had to review her actions, basically just because they’re Oaf Keepers. If they show up and interfere, I’m all for arresting them. My argument is they have not crossed the line that requires pre-emptive, Dick Cheney like action.

Our weather has been wonderful since early July. It rains regularly, the clouds are spectacular, sunrises and sunsets are colorful, temps are 80s or 90s in the day and 60s at night. We’re just lacking an economy. Our largest employer is laying off a couple thousand people from the best paying jobs around. When we get good doctors and law enforcement folks, we train ‘em up good, then they move to a bigger city where they can get paid what they’re worth. We’re still ahead of Mississippi on most economic comparisons, though, so that’s something. Or not.

That they were made outside KY means that federal prosecutors in KY or state where the threats were made could bring the charges as an interstate communication; if they entered KY, the state prosecutors could go after them on the state charges as well. That’s why I referred to both the state and federal law.

A few years back, a NJ talk show host, Hal Turner, made threats against federal court judges in Illinois. The FBI picked him up in NJ and he was charges and ultimately convicted on making the threats. He served 3 years in prison for that.

He was also charged in CT separately of inciting threats against individuals there - he was eventually found not guilty on those charges.

re: #349 SteveMcGaziBolaGate

I’m trying to give you the bod but when does a threat become a threat to you? I think the word again and the fact that they will be armed definitely can be seen as a threat when you look at the Kentucky statue. I don’t think you are an OK defender but I do think this qualifies as a threat according to the Kentucky statute. Again, if I threaten to not let something happen again, I am threatening someone. It may not be as direct as the OKs saying “If they arrest her again, we will shoot Judge Bunning to prevent her from being arrested again.” but as I asked, how is it not a threat according to the Kentucky statute? It’s clear as hell to me that they’re trying to intimidate Judge Bunning into not ordering her arrest if she violates the law so I really don’t think I was out of bounds to say the assholes should be arrested.

I can’t watch it. Not now.

More “fun” with African Americans and mental health issues meeting the police…petition from caregivers at the hospital where he was shot in the chest while seeking help:
“We stand, now, with shaken hearts and rooted conviction, to speak our collective outrage for Alan Christopher Pean, a 26 year old who was inexcusably shot in the chest by a police officer, while seeking care as a patient at St Joseph’s Medical Center.

Personally, we know Alan as a brother, a friend, a son, a supporter, a man marked by tender kindness, quiet acts of sacrifice, humor, self-reflection, and patience.

Personally, we stand in outrage for every time he is referred to as “combative” without sub-clause or context, we stand in outrage for every time he is called a “suspect” instead of a patient, we stand in outrage for every time he, one empty-handed, help-seeking man, is painted as a threat to two officers, able bodied and armed, in a hospital.

Professionally, we have been trained in truth seeking and healing. As doctors and medical students, as nurses and care partners, we are trained in how to safely restrain and tranquilize patients, no matter how aggressive, or irritable, or anxious, or threatening they may be. Never is it appropriate or warranted for a patient to be tazed, never is it appropriate for a patient to be struck, never, never, never is it appropriate for a patient seeking care, to have their life threatened in our arms.

Personally and professionally, we are shaken by the reality of this epidemic of police brutality, in which no one— no son of a doctor, no college student, no tender-hearted soul of color remains immune. We stand with shaken hearts and rooted conviction, to speak our collective outrage for Alan Christopher Pean, our gentle friend, a 26 year old who was inexcusably shot in the chest by a police officer, while seeking care as a patient.”

The Irish won’t respond with yes or no, it’s usually yes or no with an explanation since there is no word in the Irish language for no. Even though the Irish have spoken English for generations now, they still have this habit.

You spent three days in jail after being arrested, but the charges were dismissed because the judge found no cause of action against you. The police can and do arrest you anytime they feel like it, that doesn’t mean you broke the law.

Police are supposed to be careful, and to know how to safely restrain a violent person. Lately they clearly do not. I can easily and harmlessly restrain violent people who are under 200lbs. I’ve unfortunately had to do so. I’d expect the police to do at least as well.

You don’t get a jury trial when you are in contempt of court. Huckabee was crying about KD not getting bail and saying that even Dahmer and Gacy got bail. Unfortunately, that’s the kind of baseless argument that people ignorant of the law will fall or.

I managed to download it before it got on the radar of those who fire off DMCA takedowns. I’ve watched it at least 10 times in the past 2 months. If you can get over the rough editing and the voice of the Guild Navigator changing mid sentence, it’s very good.

Yeah I suspect as a governor, he probably definitely understands how the process works. By using that logical fallacy though, it’s easier to portray Kim Davis as a victim and Judge Bunning as a cruel tyrant or as that idiot Starnes has caled him “Bull Conner”, misspelling deliberate on my part since he spelled Connor wrong the first time he compared Bunning to him.

On the West Coast, Hardees is Carl’s Jr. and of the fast food places out here (except In-N-Out which is always the best), it tends to be either the best or the worst with no rhyme or reason and nothing in between.

My opinion of Wendy’s was always ‘better than average, but still meh’.

They took a poorly written series of books that were obviously written by a guy who could never get a date. To me they’re the kooky subset of BDSM lol.

Yeah, I thought it was sort of kooky as well. I got around to reading Tarnsman of Gor and Outlaw of Gor and I wasn’t impressed. Mediocre at best.

Salad here.

Excellent fast food, open bag, pour in bowl, add a few toppings, and eat.

Which is good because the house inspector is running early.

Nice. At home I’ve been eating a lot of raw spinach, carrots, and grape tomatoes. I did not realize until recently that I could feel satisfied without eating meat.

I’ve lost 5 lbs in a little over a week, and have 20 more to go before I’ll be at my ideal weight. I’m a big guy, so an extra 20 doesn’t show much on me, but I have less energy than I do when lighter.

I looked at the calorie count for most of the food at Carl’s Junior and saw the reason for the obesity crisis in the U.S. While I like their food on occasion it is really, really not good for you.

That being said I do occasionally indulge in a double-double animal style, fries well done and medium root beer from In And Out even though that isn’t necessarily good for me either lol.

I am almost at my weight goal (well I would say more like my leanness goal) so I am sitting here eating a big salad while salivating over the idea of a big juicy burger. I think I may have to hit sprouts and get some of their extra lean burgers and fire up the grill lol.

My view is if I’m going to eat something that’s bad for me, it better taste really good. I was a fast-food carnivore for far too many years, and have probably shortened my life. I’m trying to make up for it now.

I suppose we have no way of knowing if McDonald’s and Wendy’s in Russia are anything like in America.

I’ve always heard that McDonalds is much better pretty much anywhere other than the US. Only Americans would put up with the crap they serve us.

As for the others, I gave up on Wendy’s when they got rid of their salad bar. Burger King burgers aren’t very good, but the Original Chicken sandwich is pretty good—and the Chicken Parmigiana when they bring it back periodically.

I probably go to Jack in the Box more than the others. Their regular menu is bleh, but the specialty things they have off and on are sometimes pretty good. Not as good as the Really Big Chicken Sandwich™ from 20 years ago, though.

I try to find a balance. It used to be when I was heavy, I’d get something really fattening and unhealthy. It didn’t help that I wasn’t exercising at all outside walking. I lost a lot of weight. Some I’ve gained back but I am not anywhere close to where I had been before. I still would like to get below 200 or even 190. I’m around 210-215 right now. 5’11-6 in height. If I didn’t have my heart condition, I’d probably just accept this but I would like to be lighter on count of my heart.

The E. coli thing? Yeah, we had that here too. That’s what happens when you cut the meat inspectors by 80% like Reagan did. Everybody blamed Jack in the Box—but really, they were as much a victim of Republican policy as anybody.

We had White Tower when I was growing up in Philly. But I’d avoid them and go to Burger Chef, where you could buy a burger, fries and shake for 45 cents.

There was a guy about a hour from here that left his little daughter in the car. She died due to the heat. He naturally felt terrible but he deserved the book getting thrown at him. I haven’t heard what happened to him after he got out. But it just astounds me that someone could forget a child.

Small children and the sleep and concentration deprivation they induce in parents can be a terrible thing and make otherwise caring and intelligent people into stoopid-ass bumbling incoherent zombies.

I know. It took me about three years to recover once they were finally sleeping through nights and in school/day care most days…

And if you want to get all pissy and downvote this comment because you can’t stand the truth being told about you? Just log out and leave. You aren’t needed.

I don’t know who in the hell you think you are insulting the entire board then petulantly stomping your feet and threatening to take your ball & go home, but doing so hardly makes you look like a thoughtful adult whose opinion should be taken seriously.

It’s also really chickenshit that you never once took the issue up directly with the person whose comments so offended you.

To the “esteemed representatives”:

Pursuant to article Three of the US Consitution: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. “

Ms. Davis has clearly violated not only the establishment of religion by her position as a county clerk of Kentucky by refusing to sign lawfully approved rights established in Obergefell, she volitionally and willfully violated the civil rights of same sex couples within her jurisdiction.

so let me get this straight…

..a group that pretends to protect people from misuse of government or government position defends a government official who is actually in real life misusing her office?

What we really have in real life is a specifically Evangelical Christian militia bent on establishing a specifically hard right wing Evangelical Christian Theocracy.

I think Huckabee actually thinks they have a chance and thinks he will be installed as President of a new Christian States of America. (the new Confederacy)

re: #440 Jack Burton

in the USA, let us be absolutely clear on this reality:

white man with gunz = defender of FREEDOM!!!™, Good Guy, protector of the Constitution, should threaten to shoot at police and authorities as he sees fit.

black man with gunz= legally carrying, thrown down on floor of Wal-Marts, automatic “thug”, should surrender to police or face tazer and arrest or death. Police have free reign to shoot.

That’s about it.
